But still when they make such an disappointment of a single-player campaign. Allthough i must admit that the personas we're following sometimes can be funny, the lack of AI on both your team and on the russian side, can destroy even the best story. The fact that you sometimes can get 50 meters in front of your mates, before they consider regrouping with you, and the fact that enemies can walk just by you (espicially in the last mission) and that your squadmembers from time to time walk directly by enemys tend to be very disturbing. Even though we have the stereotype baseballcheerleader-loving, southstate tounge speaking, hippie-who-flies-your-chopper-who-later-kill-a-bunch-of-guys-in-a-big-classic-turn-arround scene-hating-but-later-loving-due-to-the-fact-that-he-somehow-also-got-feelings, the stereotype geek, who's just trying to be a part of the team, the leader who time and time again get screwed over by the US army, because he just want to retire and go home and see his baby-girl, and you who seems to be gods gift to the team and later convince them to take up the fight even though the team is facing a weapon which could screw up the most of the world, while there's some "feel-good," music playing in the bacground. I mean common? Haven't we seen it all before? The place in the story where our proud heroes goes from "Lets kick some ass," to "I can't make any difference anyways.... Im just a little piece of this big world, i just might give up." Jesus christ go emo won't you? Long story short version. A good but dumbed down, console catered game. Firstly, it's fun and requires more teamplay than most games making things more interesting. Firstly, it's fun and requires more teamplay than most games making things more interesting. The weapon mechanics are better than a lot of games today however at the same time they're extremely flawed in some areas (Example: Shotgun= Sniper, 2 shot kill from any range...) and overall I can't say they're as good as other tactical shooters like STALKER or ARMA II. It's biggest downfall is how dumbed down it is compared to the previous battlefield titles. Weapons do a lot less damage and everything is overly simplified. The class setups are pretty illogical and hurrendous, again they probably assumed console gamers don't think too much and won't care, but it really takes away from gameplay. Medics with LMGs is just stupid, it's not cool, it makes no sense and doesn't feel or work well in game. Assault's ammo-boy role is equally senseless and feel's wrong. Finally, there's the balance issues which again are more or less because the game is aimed towards consoles: since when were AT weapons cheap and overpowered vs infantry in battlefield series? Well they are now. Giving medic class the LMG and accuracy compensation for lack of prone has made them overpowered and as a utility class it leads to things like full teams of medics in certain modes. A lot of cheap, imbalanced things exist in this game. In the end it's pretty graphics, unique gameplay, and half-decent shooting mechanics keep it afloat but it's nothing like PC games used to be. If you get into it and find a nice clan you may get a little over 100 hours overall, after that I'd say the flaws will start to shine a lot more and the appeal will ware off. Expand

There are literally thousands of users with crashing and other stability problems with the game. There are also some other issues with connectivity that are being addressed. There are some weapon and class balance problems as well that leave many players wondering what EA was thinking. The maps however seems pretty well balanced, though some of them have quite a few glitch spots that are too easy to exploit if you know where they are. In all reality, BC2 feels more like a $50 beta test than a retail release. That being said, it's still fun to play and much better than other games in its class like MW2. The game does require a decent gaming rig to play, so keep that in mind. Better yet, you may be better off waiting until the game goes on sale. Maybe by then the stability issues will have been corrected. Far from a 10, a 7 seems like a fair rating since the game has a lot of potential. Expand

By the time you have all the weapons, you know what you are doing and your not making stupid mistakes anymore like running out into the middle of nowhere with no cover. But the main problem is, once you have all the stuff, you get bored.

Now, after hearing recommendations from my friends I decided to pick it up while it was on sale. ($14.99 on Steam) I figured that like its predecessor, this game was about the multiplayer, so I only played the first missions of the campaign (I don't think much of them) and afterward joined a server. Upon doing so, I noticed something within the first few seconds of playing. The sandbox-y feeling that I enjoyed so much back in Battlefield 2 was gone. Now, these much smaller firefight maps that felt cramped and linear have taken over and the huge maps that I loved had vanished completely. EA changed what made Battlefield ... Battlefield, and instead replaced many of those things with elements heavily inspired by games like Call of Duty. This came as a major disappointment to me, but I guess it isn't entirely bad. What they took from the other games, they built upon it and made it better. The destructible environments are fantastic, the fast-paced action is great, and even though the maps are much smaller, you are still given vehicles to travel around in. These elements makes the game-play more varied than the other generic shooters out on the market. Overall, it's good. Perhaps not worth every penny, but definitely worth picking up if you're into the Modern Warfare branch of the Call of Duty series, and would like to try something a little different. As for the hardcore Battlefield 2 / 2142 fans, if you love what the earlier Battlefield games had to offer, then hold onto that copy and save your cash. You're not going to find much of it left in Bad Company 2. -- Afterthoughts: The graphics are great. The game runs smoothly on my relatively cheap computer. I prefer the older single-player modes in the Battlefield series where you can practice your skills on various maps and play with different toys that you would find in multiplayer. Yes, Battlefield is always about online play and that's why people like it. Multiplayer mode, however, is good. The online action is intense and you must be smart on choosing a squad because if your team did not coordinate right you are going to lose. Also the game provide tons of the unlocks and achievements, so you could just dig them out for months. Final words, I will say BC2 is a good multiplayer shooter harmed by mediocre SP campaign, yet it's definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed online shooter games. Expand

The objectives can be fun if you get on team with players that actually go for the objectives. But that is not the games fault. My overall issue with this game is how often it freezes up. The eyefinity will force the game to crash, if you have certain built in sound cards then any audio setting besides default will crash your computer, and unfortunately the knifing system can still be very frustrating when it does not feel like working properly. Ive always been a fan of the Battlefield series - Please note, most of this review is based on the multi-player aspect of the game. One thing I find frustrating about BC2 is the leveling up aspect of the game. The idea being you aid your team with healing, repairing, kill streaks and you gain experience which in term grants you new weapons and perks. Fair enough. But the leveling upIve always been a fan of the Battlefield series - Please note, most of this review is based on the multi-player aspect of the game. One thing I find frustrating about BC2 is the leveling up aspect of the game. The idea being you aid your team with healing, repairing, kill streaks and you gain experience which in term grants you new weapons and perks. Fair enough. But the leveling up aspect of the game should not make it unenjoyable for new players starting the game as level 1. As a new player you will find yourself gunned down, killed with one shot kill rifles, unable to assist your team (medics dont even start with a healing pack.... you have to unlock it). It was only once I had unlocked some good weapons and perks where I started to enjoy the multiplayer. The Hardcore mode for the servers is amazing. hardcore removes most of the hud, and increases the damage of the weapons. This results in a much more 'realistic' style of game where controlled, aimed shots from cover are better than running in the open jumping and shrugging off bullets. One problem I did find with the hardcore mode was again, the leveling up. There is a perk which you unlock at level 15 called Magnum bullets. This perk increases your weapon of choices damage significantly. The weapons in HC already do significant damage but you cant help feeling annoyance when the person you are shooting at manages to quickly snap off a round which kills you, while leaving him badly wounded. Vehicles have always been a big thing for the Battlefield series and BC2 is no different. One or two things I will mention is that the Helicopters are slightly overpowered when in the hands of an expert player - and there are alot of expert players. You also you get some **** players who will TK you in order to get to a heli or tank before you, however that is more an issue with the player base than the game itself. Graphics wise - the game is on par with what I would expect from a recentish first person game. The physics of the game are great with every building being able to be destroyed. An enemy squad bunkered up in a building? Destroy one of the walls and storm in from an unexpected angle. The game does put you in a sense of awe with buildings exploding round you, the dieing screams of your team-mates, the pang of bullets flying past and the rumble of your heavy armor advancing forward seeking a new target or building to decimate. The single player - Good enough but nothing 'wowing'. Its the usual thing where the good guys end up winning, your team-mates never die, and you end up killing hundreds of poor Russians without a scratch to show for it. Once you complete it you will prob not feel the need to replay it. I will mention the cut-scenes which add an element of humor to the game and set up the plot quite well. All in all, A good game that I recommend. Well worth the nine or so dollars I spent purchasing this game from a Steam Sale. The reason I gave the game a 7 is the fact, as I mentioned before, you have to really unlock alot of weapons and perks before you can start to actually enjoy yourself ingame. Till you get these weapons and perks you will find yourself constantly frustrated, unable to kill people, unable to assist your team and slowly crawling up the exp ladder. A game should not punish its new player base to the point where it becomes unenjoyable while top level players are racking up the scores. Expand

Gameplay-wise shooting lots of different weapons is satisfying, but I found myself dying from nothing a LOT of times. This made everything much more frustrating especially when there's no quicksave and dying takes you a long way back each time. Also, trying to stray off the beaten path to flank enemies breaks the game. Many times I got stuck or died by going where the game didn't want me to.

Story-wise it felt like the characters were supposed to be likable and funny, but dialogues and interactions between the soldiers looked very unnatural and awkward. It didn't help that control is taken away from you every 10 minutes for a meaningless cutscene where nothing substantial happens.

To keep it short - it stands pretty well but it is not that simple. The story itself is lackluster in comparison to Modern Warfare (which is not surprising considering the scale CoD went for in the MW trilogy so there is no shame in being inferior to one of the best first-shooter campaigns ever) but in all the other aspects BC2 shines brighter: the graphics are more realistic, shot sounds are more pleasant to hear, the shooting overall just feels better - add to that vehicles you can actually get in and complete freedom to destroy anything you want (a house, a tower, a tree - you name it) and you get a decent rival for MW3 which was released around the same time.

Half of the game you will be fighting what appears to be a south american pmc for no reason at all? Near the end you'll also begin to feel the copy-pasted layouts of the housing interiors. Despite all that, there is one aspect I would be remise for not mentioning: the environmental destruction. I fully think that this is why the game was made. Destroying soft cover to melt enemies behind it, collapsing buildings with grenade launchers, this is all very satisfying. While I did not play the multiplayer on this playthrough (I will not subject myself to hours of painstaking matchmaking with horrible internet) I do fondly remember the dozens of hours I spent playing it when I was younger. Hardly a match went by that a whole building would remain standing. Truly an irreplaceable experience that had a scale and interactivity that is hardly matched these days. Expand

Compared to the third game, I found the story more successful. Another difference from the third game is that I was able to finish it.

I echo Trevor's comment, Do not buy unless you have a really good computer. Really regret buying it now. Have a ATI HD3650 51mb, 4 gb memory and core 2 duo 8300 2.4ghz and cant play at all, its lag followed by lag. However if you have a speced up computer alot better than what i have then go for it.

Is it just me or is all the buildings and structures completely empty? As for the environment there is very little immersion. Fancy lighting, HDR, decent level design sure. But low polygon objects and low res textures everywhere... half the structures you cant even go into. Most of them empty as hell. Very bland video game feeling. Sorry but this game gets a grade C Maybe I'm just Is it just me or is all the buildings and structures completely empty? As for the environment there is very little immersion. 1. The new single-player mode isn’t that interesting, but the multi-player part is fantastic. With new destructable environments and new game modes Bad Company 2 is the best Battlefield game so far.
  2. Do you like first-person shooters? If the answer is yes, buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2. If there's a weakness it lies in the slightly brief single-player campaign, but the brilliant, potentially Modern Warfare 2 beating multiplayer more than picks up the slack.

Though it occasionally stumbles, there's one thing that Bad Company 2 clearly demonstrates: DICE has graduated from the, "can only do a multiplayer FPS" class, and is perfectly capable of making a great all-around game.
