Great game in keeping with the BF tradition. The Battlepack system is a great addition and the graphics are insane. Early issues with crashing appear to be fixed and i havent had any issues in a while. I highly recommend.

Surprised that a lot is giving this game a 0. This game has been an epic experience from day one to now 2 or 3 weeks later. the single player is bland but the multilayer makes up for it. The only reason I did not give it a 10 was the day 1 glitches soon to be fixed

I mean, it was insane, I thought I had wasted $60 and was demanding a refund. The biggest issues were the textures of outdoor and indoor environments. I enjoy the recon class, and sniping really showed how poor everything looked. I installed the game day one, and had the mandatory 2GB download once the game started. Then it happened....I NEVER INSTALLED THE 2nd DISK!!!! That's where the HD textures were hiding. THIS GAME ROCKS. I loved COD, and opted out of ghosts due to some pretty bad feedback and didn't want to shovel out another $60 just yet. I really enjoy conquest modes, and I guess I'm the only one who enjoys rush mode also. Looking forward to some new maps, but so far, I really do enjoy this game. Just wish I could pilot helicopters and planes, all in good time... Expand

Battlefield 4 is a epic game with many innovations and a big quantity of bugs, but if you stop to pay attention, the creators are launching updates that are improving since the launch, and if you wait they will correct the rest, like in battlefield 3, i believe you need to wait until they fix the bugs and then, you can buy one of the best games made.

It's sad how this fantastic game gets bad reviews. The community here is full of haters who don't know their game and keep claiming that every BF game after BF2 is bad.

BF4 filled all the missing features of 3, but is "bad because of bugs". BF3 is bad because it lacked all the features of the previous BFs. BFBC2 is golden and better than 1943, but worse than BFBC1. BFBC1 is bad

BFBC2 is golden and better than 1943, but worse than BFBC1.
BFBC1 is bad because it's only for consoles.
    BF2142 isn't as good as 2.
    BF2 is the best BF.
Seriously, this is ridiculous. I will go as far as saying BF4 is the best BF yet, as it is currently clean of bugs, but still receiving updates for balancing issues, which are mostly fixed now. BF4 was, at the start, completely unplayable, but is now 100% functioning, and now they've balanced out the weapons and vehicles, and this is all because of a hard-working team called DICE LA-they're in fact the most supportive/active developers I've ever seen. In fact, if I read a new forum post or watch a new Lvlcap video about balancing issues, a week later, DICE LA has fixed it in the newest update, which makes me think that they check absolutely every corner of BF4 hate on the internet. They really do their job well and are saving BF4 from being a buggy unbalanced disaster
Sure, BF4 has had the worst launch of any BF game, but it sure is one of the best multiplayer FPS out there now (If not THE best). It's a game that improved on everything amazing BF3 did wrong, and sure put every CoD game ever made to shame.

Battlefield 4 is an amazing game, and DICE really stepped up this game with Frostbite 3. It's really an improvement to Battlefield 3. There isn't any reason that I've found yet to give this game a negative score, however I do think that the whole "Levolution" thing is a huge gimmick. The only maps that really have any Levolution are Siege of Shanghai, Flood Zone, and Paracel Storm. Those are the only maps where once the Levolution occurs, the maps are significantly different. And even then, it's still pretty gimmicky.

The game is really great. It improves nearly every aspect of the online player experience (except the weapon modification screen which is frustratingly complicated, though I'm getting a handle on it). If you liked BF3 or if at least it interested you but wasn't your thing, check out BF4. DICE and EA are ambitious and most of it they pull off well. If you didn't like BF3s brand of warfare, or prefer smaller, moshpit inspired gameplay chances are BF4 isn't for you. BF4 doesn't want to cater to COD-type warfare. What they do in BF4 is improve their special brand of combat and it really shows. Stop the COD vs BF4 hate. Just play your games and, if you really want to have a good time, stop worrying about the nerdiest rivalry ever and just play both games because they are both good in their own way.

Battlefield 4 is an excellent multiplayer game and a bland single-player experience, filled with bugs but still nevertheless enjoyable. To start off, this is not BF3.5. Here's a complete list of all the new features:

Frostbite 3 engine (dynamic weather effects and destruction BF3's engine could not handle)
    Commander Mode returning
    Levolution
    Customizable knives and vehicles
    Counter-knife
    Improved and dynamic naval combat
    5-Man squads
    No blue tint
    China faction
    Platoons
    Spectator mode
    Improved and responsive Battlelog
New character models that make it easier to differentiate between faction to faction
Suppression improved; toned down on all weapons except for sniper rifles and light machine guns
    Field upgrades unlocks
    Spot animation
New game modes like Obliteration and Defuse, as well as improvements to existing game modes such as Rush and Conquest.

And that may not even be all of it.

However, one big disappointment for me is the single-player campaign, its ends up turning into a Michael Bay explosions everywhere movie with little to no redeeming qualities. Its an improvement over Battlefield 3's, with much more open environments that allow players to approach levels in multiple ways, but ultimately is pointless. The pacing and writing is abysmal, characters are thin, and is not worth a play-through.

But as a multiplayer game it succeeds. The 64-player battles are unmatched, the destruction is more Bad Company 2 style, as well as a new mechanic called "Levolution." Most of these major map-changing events are triggered by players, but some are not. Levolution is mostly scripted but still nevertheless enjoyable, and change the tide of the battle immensely. Some Levolution events are better than others, the skyscraper on Siege of Shanghai gets old after it falls down 3 or 4 times, but other events like flooding the city on Flood Zone are far harder to trigger and change up the overall gameplay.

The reviews on here are just purely immature, Battlefield 4 is an excellent game, it has noticeable launch issues which decreases its overall appeal but is worth the price of admission.

One of the problems with early BF4 was the 10-tick (updates 10 times a second) servers and how they updated: you could unload on someone and all the bullets would hit them at the exact same time, when the server updated on the next tick. The experience was just not good.

Now, however, it runs very smoothly and the experience is overall very good. It is much better with a few Squadmates over Teamspeak, but if you find yourself a good squad, you can use the integrated VOIP and have a very fun teamwork experience.

It's not revolutionary, it's the same battlefield as BF3, only somewhat tweaked, destruction refined, and with a LARGE number of maps and modes.

Hardly worth full release price at the time, but it's a bargain now: you can easily put in 500 hours before becoming anywhere near bored, as it offers excellent variety.

    10/10
    - 1 for being basically a BF3 rehash
    - 0.5 for the Battlelog clunkiness
    - 0.5 for not being Steam compatible

Overall, this is the best current MP shooter game available I don't care if you have a hard-on for COD or CS1.6 this has the best mix for customisability/graphics/environment and realism (aside from ARMA) available.
Whilst I don't think this game's initial maps were as good as BF3 (except Paracel Storm) I think the variation within each level is amazing i.e. you can have close quarter fighting in a map with vehicles this brings a whole new dynamic to the game that we didn't have in BF3
I think, like BF3 (and remember enthusiasts, BF3 wasn't without a massive amount of issues too) BF4 will improve as the title goes on for the next 2 years e.g. the Sniper class NEEDS to be nerfed it is far to COD like (to note, this is a negative) and too easy to master

Overall I mark this down for the required tweaks, but am not emotional enough to let it ruin an otherwise perfect game!

Sure, some of the levolution features are useless, like when the tower collapses in Siege of Shanghai, the rest of the match gets boring. CoD: Ghosts doesn't hold a candle to this. Anyone who thinks Ghosts is better than this is an idiot.

I love the new customization options. Getting to look at your gun. Lots of camoflauge, guns, vehicles and attachments.

The other issue I have, and sadly it's common practice now, but the premium and DLC packs. In a sense I don't consider these packs taking away from the main game because the amount of maps the main game has is on par with all previous titles have at launch. The downside to me is the fact at one time maps and DLC was free, or even cheap, not $15 for four maps.

Furthermore the gameplay is good as always, but the biggest improvements is the map design is a little more open then 3 in my view. Metro and other maps failed at times as it was too linear for a BF game without multiple access points, and these maps seem to have corrected that issue. Also there is more emphasis on vehicles on some maps, and even naval warfare on a couple of maps. Finally the levolution technology which is a cool idea seeing certain parts of the map changing the dynamic of your strategy, but it isn't always executed well. Some maps change how you attack a point, but other times it just adds some debris in the way.

In regards to the single player campaign it's nothing special. It has some cool moments and it's fun, but it isn't long or anything revolutionary. It's a typical popcorn flick in which there is a lot of action, a basic story without much character development, and it consists a few what you would call wow moments. Overall the game feels more stable then BF3, and it has some nice changes which I think are good. If you like multiplayer shooters, definitely check out; however, if you are a player who randomly enjoys them, then wait for a sale on the main game or get BF3 as you have plenty of choices for your FPS fix.

Still a fun game with active servers well after release. It had a buggy start but is now a lot better. It's gameplay feels even more smooth than battlefield 3, the maps look amazing and the gun play is quite fun. For normal mode the game irritates the heck out of me but I enjoy playing Hardcore which feels perfect to me.

Battlefield 4 offers the biggest variety of gameplay from tanking to stealthily flanking the enemy team to flying a jet around the whole map. It is definitely worth spending $60, or even $110 on. The sounds of the various objects in the game are still fresh, it makes for some really intense moments that can make even the most casual FPS player feel like a hero if they so wish.

The multiplayer mode is as good as it ever has been, it's battlefield, you know what you're getting as far as game-play is concerned, there is no comparison to the sheer fun that can be had. Personally, i have experienced a few annoying connection issues that with persistence can be overcome, EA does seems to get this wrong a lot (you'd think with all the money saving from shutting down the old servers, the newer ones would be up to the job, no?).

So, enough with the praise and onto the gripe, there is a reason why this game scored 8/10 apart from all the other faults you might find when playing it yourselves, and that is one word, BATTLELOG. A PC issue first and foremost, why does this thing still exist? Why is the integration of social media and games becoming a thing nowadays? The whole experience of having to open each game through a window makes the product feel like it is held together with tape, it doesn't FEEL like a complete game, almost like the game was an afterthought and battlelog itself should take centre-stage, totally unnecessary, just stick to menus, please.

All things considered, it's a good and fun game to play, best played with friends or relatives in squad play to rack up points, the single player is a definite step up from BF3, so check it out.

Crossing over from the Call of Duty franchise to the Battlefield franchise wasnt easy, ive been playing CoD since 2009 and been playing Battlefield since 2010. At the time, I was a CoD fanboy and didnt play anything else, I thought to myself "This game is so good, there will never be a better shooter", and while that was true for some of the CoD games I played, the series quickly came to a downfall. I had pre-ordered BO2 hardened edition and payed roughly £100 for it, a mistake I would regret. That was when I told myself that I would never play another CoD again. What was there to play then? Battlefield. As I said earlier, it was hard for me to cross over, mainly because the game styles from the two games differed so much, CoD was run and gun, Battlefield was PTFO. I got BF3 for my birthday and played the heck out of that game, I simply loved it. Eventually I actually got good at it, and at the end of my BF3 days I was actually proud to call myself a good Battlefield player.

When BF4 was announced I was very excited, and eventually I pre-ordered the Limited Edition and BF4 Premium, something that I have not regretted. When the game came out it was a mere disappointment, lots of bugs and glitches, client and server crashes, game modes broken etc. They had also nerfed the vehicles, giving them a limited supply of ammunition, a mechanic which I hate. They had increased the time it took to reload flares and ECM Jammer from 7 secs to 22 secs, something which keeps you from killing people before some person with a stinger locks on to you and you have to go back to your base. I have to say though that playing as infantry is a lot of fun now, more than it was in BF3, but the horrible netcode gives you those "How the f*ck did he kill me?" moments. I would have given this game a 7/10 until I heard that DICE will be making the limited vehicle ammo thing for hardcore servers only, and also possibly changing the Flare/ECM reload time. That made me give the game a 8/10. Of course, they will be fixing the bugs, and when they do the game will propably get a 9/10 by me. The campaign had a horrible story but very satisfying and fun battles, but Battlefield as CoD is centered around the multiplayer and not the singleplayer.

If you dont mind people having all the unlocks before you and being at a disadvantage, I suggest you buy the game 1 or 2 months after the release. But if you can resist the bugs and want to have all the unlocks at the same time as the others, then I highly recommend that you buy the game now.

Battlefield 4 caught my interest when i first saw the building fall on the E3 demo, and the first question you asking is does it hold up, and what i have played which is every map and both dlc's . is yes it completely made that building fall down seem like a ordinary day in the battle of Battlefield 4, from the moment i get into battle i immediately get sucked in to the beautiful worlds and maps of BF. thanks to the frostbite 3 engine every gun bullet and shred of grass is well realized and well thought out in the maps in multi player of BF4.

but i bet your wondering, is the game fun.... well yes it is, the game play in BF4 is very well done with almost all guns being very balanced and for a novas it was not to difficult to get the hang of BF4 with a couple tip videos and some practice you should be on your way to being a killer in the Battlefield.

some of the flaws are some balancing issues and some weird glitches and bugs sometimes, also some crashing and on last gen consoles the devs really had to pull back on some things to keep in range of the old hard ware of the PS3 and the Xbox 360, making that great Battlefield experience on pc, not even close on last gen hardware. on next gen it is is almost the same experience on pc, if your wondering

this game is a fun and enjoyable game for novices and noobs and i will be playing i until l i see the Battlefield 5 logo on my origin account in 2015. i give it a 8.5/10

As for game modes, conquest and rush are still as fun as they always were, and the addition of obliteration, while frustrating at some points, can really have some tense moments, and overall, is very enjoyable.

    _____

Multiplayer 4/10 Netcode/lag/crashes/server lag, it's all there. I have played to battle rank 20 with more than 50% crashes. I've forwarded my ports, I've re-installed the firmware on my router, I've downloaded the amd beta drivers, I've repaired the game, I've checked every possible fix out there, and I still crash. It's not fun. When I can play, I find myself being killed around corners, through walls, and never beating anyone 1 on 1 at point blank. The only way to get kills is to flank and kill from behind, and even then when I try to, they wind up figuring out I'm shooting them in the back and one shoting me instantly. It's never taken more than 2 bullets, less than a half a second, to kill me, no matter the distance they shoot from. I can't kill anyone 100+ meters before they kill me, it's just not possible. My accuracy on conquest is under 5%, while on domination (close range sneaking up on people) it's 15%. It might be because I suck, but I'm not the only one.

Single player 6/10 I enjoyed it, but to be honest it wasn't action packed. There were moments in the scripted story that were amazing, and I really loved it, but the actual game-play was terrible. I played on normal, and the ai was pathetic. I enjoyed how they tried to flank me every now and then, but it was like shooting fish in a bucket, completely without a point and felt like a grind to the next action packed story. It was a better movie, even though the story-line wasn't really that comprehensible, than it was a fps.

I'll give it an 8 because I'm nice and I really want updates so I can play this damn thing. In the future, please try to fix all these bugs before release, not everyone is as forgiving as me.

This isn't a FPS game! It's a true war simulator! Other than a few crashes and the dumb use browser instead of an in-game menu system, this game is out of the park!

Then it comes to the review. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews, I purchased it when it was on sale 3 weeks ago, what I can say is that even the single player campaign worth the money! (though I have to say the story is ridiculous, and apparently they have no idea on what Chinese government is like today. The story is full of typical western bu**sh** and the story is for China in 70s)

Funny that many ppl were b**ching about the netcode and crashes, b***sh** IMO, It only crashed twice, and the netcode problem only happened 4-5 times for me. Played the game for more than 40 hours. Definitely not like what those haters overly exaggerated about (Or maybe it's the new patches that fixed these problems Idk).

Problems do exist, that's why I gave it an 8.
1, Story is full of typical western bu**sh** abt China like I said. Misleading as hell.
2, Multiplayer unlocks are gone after finishing the single player campaign, come back after several matches tho, but that was very frustrating cuz I thought those unlocks were gone forever.
    3, 75 Ticket bug.
4, Stats won't show up in battle log until, I don't know, 2-3 hours later I guess. A long lag like this is not acceptable.

That being said, this is still an awesome game, not a 10/10 but definitely 8.5/10. Definitely worth ur money I promise you that!

This is the year that BF beats out CoD. I played COd and I'm done and probably not going back again! The only complaint this year for BF is the game feels buggier than the BF3 launch and I'm still getting a lot of lag even on sub 20 ping servers. The Battlelog is even deeper than before and the maps are entertaining so far. 15 hours in and I'm enjoying the ride.

As Chinese player, some of us have to use an monthly-paid internet connection booster to play the game. Otherwise the game will lose connection while in Loading Level stage.

    Anyway, the game is great.

For example, on one map it starts to rain, blocking your vision, or blinding an enemy with your laser sight. It also has some awesome modes like obliteration and levoultion. But the king of these modes is the old champion commander mode! It adds in more teamwork and makes battles more tense, knowing that at any moment the enemy commander could be a click away from launching a missile. And it just happens to be one of the best looking game ever! The game also makes guns feel real and alive. Sometimes you will get a glitch that takes you out of the experience. However, this game has one of the worst campaign ever. It clearly rips of COD and is just stupid! Fix it and then you'll see your 10s go up. Expand

I really love the game! The SP campaign had a great story and was very fun to play, though the ending felt rushed. The campaign contained a list full of bugs as well, so does the multiplayer mode. But other than the rushed ending and the bugs, the campaign and multiplayer experience is amazing to play.

It is no mystery that this game has it's share of problems. But the amount of complaining has become contagious and 'DICE hating' is trending real big right now.

So here's my take on it....

I just built myself a new gaming rig. I'm running 2 GTX 780s SLI and an i7 4770k. On this rig, BF4 rarely EVER crashes. And I mean RARELY EVER. When I had a 650ti Boost, I was experiencing more crashes, but that was several patches ago. I don't ever have the audio dropping problem anymore either. So they ARE optimizing and patching, but for it to be flawless on everyone's different computers will take a lot of time.

This game is not for the "weak in specs". You need a strong machine to take advantage of this game and its graphics. I get 140 frames per seconds and I can tell you that the game is gorgeous. The movement is fluid and smooth, the audio is great, and I'm having a blast playing with my clan and random squads. BTW, I'm all about the multiplayer, but the campaign is nice too.

Now for the bad (which isn't a deal breaking issue with me). The game's current netcode (the software engineering that is responsible for online play) needs a lot more tweaking. There is a current bug, the '1 shot kill' bug, that was supposed to have been patched a few patches ago and hasn't been. This bug is extremely frustrating and it makes it appear that the person who killed you is using some kind of a cheat. There ARE hackers in this game just like any other PC game, but this bug has caused the entire community to being suspicious of each other and it goes to create a lot of hostility and frustration. I'm one of you above average players and I am now getting consistently "hackusated" almost every day as I improve at BF4. While I take it mostly as a compliment, I have actually been banned by some butt hurt admins who didn't like me killing them repeatedly. Hence why I have started recorded my gameplay and posting to Youtube.

Another issue (for me at least) are that the anti-air vehicles and weapons are too powerful, and helicopters and jets (mainly helicopters) aren't as much fun to fly as in previous titles. The range of these weapons creates a scenario that if more than 1 player on the opposite team are using stingers, IGLAs, air radar missiles or the mobile AA tanks, it is pretty much impossible to fly around the map, and most of the time you will be destroyed as soon as you take off from base (which is unacceptable).

Aside from these 2 complaints, I cannot in good conscience say that this game is anything but great. While it doesn't bring anything really new or groundbreaking to the table (other than levolution which is pretty to look at but usually has a negligible effect on gameplay), it is still a solid FPS game with nice maps, gorgeous visuals and audio and high replay value.

In conclusion, it is worth the $60. The $100+ for Premium is kind of a rip off, you don't get much from it. Be prepared for some multiplayer frustration though, but just keep in mind that it is the netcode and not a hacker 95% of the time and you won't lose too much hair over it.

The game is overall enjoyable, especially in the multiplayer aspect. Which is to be expected. It really shines when you get a group of friends together in a squad and blast noobs as a unit. The campaign is short and could be better, but it's a good few hours if you get tired of multiplayer.

I haven't had much trouble with crashing like others have, but my connection to Battlelog sometimes does break. It causes the occasional nuisance.

Graphics are fantastic, and the multiplayer is unparalleled. When it comes down to it, if you can afford the upgrade from BF3, go for it. Otherwise, it isn't a huge change from BF3, but it is different in some respects.

I would have initially have given this game a 4 or 5 out of 10 due to my horrible experiences with it. However, now that they have patched up some of the core, and most aggravating, problems, the game is actually a lot of fun.

I see that several of the views below, the negative ones, bash the levelution system which provides us with the destructibility of each map. I'll have to disagree with many people here about that. From personal experience, I'd say that it makes a lot of difference in how you play the game, if you actually think ahead and take your environment into consideration. If you're one of those people who just run around killing people, the destruction physics will mean nothing to you no matter how good it is. There was one time which me and my squad-mates were hold up in a building as we tried to defend the area from the assaulting enemies. Sure enough, with enough firepower the entire building collapsed, leaving us with no cover and a harder to defend point. So instead, we decided to use some guerrilla tactics and destroyed their attacking vehicles with C4. The changes to the environment that happen can make it look like you just stepped into a new area although it is so damaged that it looks foreign, not to mention the amazing graphics which add much more immersion to the environment of each map.

Now, the initial problems that I mentioned before had to do with their servers. It was impossible to play with friends, Battlelog wouldn't work, and servers were laggy and hard to get into. It was annoying that I couldn't play with my friends, and due to that I almost returned the game. However, with the most recent patch, it seems they have almost solved the problem completely. Although the exclusion of a party system in game can be annoying, it can easily be worked around due to the flexibility of in-game team switching. The server problems which plagued BF4 previously can only be seen on some occasions and they aren't as bad as before. I can also proudly say that Battlelog works perfectly fine, however it is rather useless.

For the in-game issues, the gameplay itself works well. It is impossible to drop-shot and quick-scoping is almost impossible as well. The guns aren't balanced at all, however the game itself relies on the strategic thinking of the player to win situations, and not the gun itself. However, if you are in a straight up, no-cover, shooting match with someone with a better gun, you will lose, which is how it should be. The fact that you have to continue to play with a certain class or vehicle in order to unlock more for it can be kind of annoying, as compared to COD:Ghosts squad point system, however you can earn enough score by completing objectives and aiding your team, which also helps you level up.

The Commander system is also a nice addition to BF4. With it, you can see the map from an eagle-eye perspective, aid the team with UAVs, EMPs, supply drops, squad promotions, and the ability to order squads to objectives on the map. Not to mention the addition support options which you can use when your team has specific objectives on the map, such as an AC-130, cruise missiles, and a map-wide infantry or vehicle stand; you can even mark enemies for everyone to see for a period of time if they have a 6-kill kill-streak! Although it seems like having a commander can win you any game, most of the time no one uses the feature, and when they do they don't seem to do much with it. If your team sucks and refuses to listen to commands, having a commander won't make much of a difference. However it may be able to make you lose just a little less.

Overall, I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the First-Person-Shooter experience and wants a more realistic game than COD.

Unfortunately, EA pushed this game out quicker than it should. The game still has glitches, and extreme frame-rate drops at times, even for the console versions. There is also a few minor things that isn't apart of the game. There is no co-op missions, you can't invite friends to a squad before going in-game. You have to follow them in and hope you guys end up on the same team. The only way to customize any of your load outs is through in-game customizations. You can't change load-outs on the My Soldier like you could on BF3. You're also only limited to customizing the specific vehicles on the map. For example, say you play on Operation Locker, a close quarter combat with no vehicles, but say you unlock a new camo that you want to put on your tank. You have to wait till you are on a map with that tank available to put it on. Also, in Battepacks you are awarded things like "New Emblem" and "New Solider Portrait." This has left many confused of where to locate those items. The only way to locate those items is through the computer by logging into your battlelog. This can be a hassle especially if you want to just change your emblem/clan tag.

Like I said, Battlefield still is an over-all amazing game, but there is still a lot of things they left out or over complicated that could of been made easier.

When this game first launched in it's Beta, it had uncountable problems. Network issues, game issues, absolutely terrible service, and overall a bad experience. Now although DICE, the developers of Battlefield 4, has fixed most of these issues after the initial release of the product, it still contains issues to this day.

DICE is constantly trying to improve, but doesn't allow room for that to happen. Recently, in the upcoming game "Battlefield: Hardline," a new developer team "Visceral" has teamed up with DICE and took control of the new product. They initialized an 'Open Beta' for the game and I got a chance to play it. It is going to be a great game and there were not many bugs, but I will save that review for another time. While DICE is a great team, Visceral beats DICE at least in the support department because they were really open to criticism and suggestions, which DICE is coming shy of.

So while this game has it's ups and downs, I think it does deserve more attention as they are always improving it. I'd suggest it to a friend.

I held off buying BF4 in protest of what I saw as EA and DICE's ruining the series by "call-of-dutifying" the way new installments in the series are handled. However, during the recent sale I made the leap and picked up the base game.

In short, this is everything Battlefield 3 should have been. Despite what people have said about BF4 being rushed out, I believe it is the other way around: This game makes me think that BF3 was rushed to release before it could become the game DICE wanted it to be. That game, in my opinion, is BF4. While many things here do look nearly identical to BF3 at first glance, anyone who has played a good amount of the latter will immediately notice that nearly every feature has been expanded upon and simply made to feel more "complete": Much larger (and better) maps, BC2 style destruction (collapsing buildings are back!), in-game VOIP for squad members, Commander mode, multiple weapon attachments, different classes of jets (stealth fighers vs. attack fighters), the AC-130 incorporated into the base game (awesome, btw), and a much larger assortment of weapons, items, perks, etc - Quite simply this is everything that BF3 was expected to be. Release issues aside, I strongly believe that much of the hate for BF4 can largely be attributed to the fact that BF3 was not yet the "complete" Battlefield game which DICE envisioned.

Fans of Bad Company 2 will be happy to know that the destruction which was so lacking in BF3 is back in full - Buildings can be blown apart in much smaller increments, and once more can collapse entirely if enough damage is done. The maps also have a BC2 flair to them, with many taking place in semi-tropical environments reminiscent of the best Conquest/Rush maps on offer in Bad Company 2 (Isla Innocentes, Laguna Presa anyone?).

In the end, this is still the same Battlefield I know and love, and I am glad I finally let curiosity get the better of me and made the purchase. While BF4 is more refinement over innovation, it is a definite improvement over its predecessor and in my opinion one of if not the best Battlefield game to date.

The vehicles are really fun to use too, as they provide the player with a great amount of weaponry at disposal whether you want to engage in ground or aerial combat. Furthermore, the visuals are outstanding, even though this game is almost 8 years old at this point. The same praise goes to the realistic sound design as well.

The single player may be lackluster, but who purchases Battlefield for the single player? I'd honestly be happy with a Battlefield game that doesn't have a single player, but rather a well-polished multiplayer. Specialization is a much better approach rather than an attempt to make a game that's a "Jack of all trades." That's just one man's opinion though.

The only reason there are so many negative reviews for this game is because the launch was a buggy mess. Even I stopped playing the game at launch and waited several months (if not a year I can't really remember). Most games nowadays come out a mess anyway so it's nothing new.

Overall this game will probably go down as my favorite shooter multiplayer of all time. I struggle to find anything that comes close to replicating the amount of fun I had in this game.

Battlefield 4 could just as well be called Battlefield 3.5. The new Battlefield features are only marginal improvements over Battlefield 3, but even as such it leaves the competitors way behind. Hopefully the bugs will be squashed soon. [Nov 2013]

Even if multiplayer wasn't buggy, Battlefield 4 would still only be a barely passable installment in all respects besides the snazzy graphics. EA and DICE played it safe by providing the same thing they did the last time around, with another phoned-in campaign and only minor alterations to the online.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
