The single-player campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series will probably always be better, that's something they've always done well. But as far as multiplayer (which in my humble opinion is where the replay value is), Call of Duty will never hold a candle to the Battlefield series. As with all major Battlefield releases (1942, 2, & 3), these multiplayer maps are massive and deep in complexity. Between the primary weapons, utilities, tanks, vehicles, and aircraft you could literally spend months unlocking and upgrading even if you played everyday! There is so much to do here, it's one of the few games that I can justify the $60 price tag on, because I know not only will reaching my goals take time but I'll enjoy doing it along the way. One thing to remember when playing any Battlefield game is that this is not a Call of Duty style multiplayer game. The maps are 10x as large, the Objectives are more important than Kill #'s, running and gunning will most likely get you killed, and team work is rewarded. You'll need to adjust your weapons from map to map, and think about what you're doing instead of running into battle gung-ho. Over time, you will become a better player and adjust by learning the maps and tactics used by other players. It's an extremely rewarding experience for anyone looking for a multiplayer first person shooter that will be fun for more than a month. There are downfalls of course, the single-player experience while better than anything prior still falls way short of our expectations (especially after watching the trailers). Also the web style menu interface is horrendous and should have never been adopted in the first place. Disconnects are rare, but connecting to a server can sometimes be a challenging and getting server lists with proper ping read-outs can require restarts occasionally. While the former is permanent, the later should be fixed with future updates and is not of particular concern in most circumstances. If you're looking for a game you can jump into and start annihilating your foes immediately, Modern Warfare 3 is probably for you. If however, you're looking for a game with a more rewarding long term experience, team work oriented game play, and meaningful tactics and objectives. Skip Modern Warfare 3 and go right for Battlefield 3! Expand

A great game followed by an average single player and crappy battlelog and origin. But multiplayer saves it all really, I don't mind going through all that just to play it.

Amazing graphics, amazing gameplay. Some annoyances that could have easily been avoided, and some features that made themselves at home in the previous Battlefield games missing, but easily a solid sequel that will provide months of entertainment.

The graphics were stunning and were complimented by the perfect audio. Terrain destruction implemented since Bad Company 2, is a great feature. But now there was Origin. Battlefield 3 had gotten rid of Main menus and was replaced by Battlelog. When I was installing Battlefield 3, The first time I did it, it came up with the grey spinning wheel of death. Origin had said they were working on it 3 weeks ago! So after waiting a few hours I tried again successfully. But, when I got into a server, I got kicked after 30 seconds due to "no packet flow" from Punk Buster. Apparently, I'm not the only one. So after finally going through that you can finally enjoy the great experience of Battlefield. COD players would not enjoy this games, for it is slower paced, strategic and just better and COD players just can't admit it. Expand

Simply awesome, for me a PC game should focus on online gaming, and BF3 does just that, even though a good single player is cool it only lasts 6 - 8 hours tops, Multiplayer is where 1st person gaming really is on the PC and BF3 delivers in all areas. 1st person shooter of the year, theres no competition imo.

Three words: Bad Company Two! Really- whats the difference between this game and Bad Company 2. I shoot at a window and it doesn't break? Did we just go back in time and not be able to break windows? This game said it was going to have top notch graphics? What so top notch about it? The only improvement i see is in the indv. chars. It's a lot of button smashing/ button sequences.. *yawn.* This was clearly an attempt to become more like other games *cough* COD *cough.* but don't let that keep you from buying this game. The multiplayer on this game is AWESOME. No crappy matchmaking like COD, dedicated servers, vehicles, huge maps, servers up to 64 players, vehicles etc. There are a few drawbacks for me. As a long time COD player, I am use to very fluid motions in game, very fast reloads, fast stance changing etc. The body mechanics in this game are SO stiff and rigid. One thing I have never understood about games is when the mechanics are different in single player than multiplayer. In single player you can go from prone to crouch, crouch to standing, or any variation without ever breaking your aim (aim down sight) and go from prone to sprint very quickly but in the multiplayer if you're prone you break your aim and slowly prop yourself up then have to re-aim again. Reloading (especially anti-air and anti-tank missiles feels like it takes hours). Though these aren't vital to games success it is hard to get use to. With all of my criticisms out of the way this game is FANTASTIC. If you have friends who play this game you can all squad up, and coordinate attacks, objectives etc. and it actually brings teamwork to multiplayer (something COD REALLLY lacks). I started off not liking the stiffness of this game but as I've played longer and longer it is CLEARLY the choice over Modern Warfare 3. This game was designed with the PC player in mind. I've played on the xbox 360 and PC and the graphics on PC make xbox graphics look like a 5 year old's hand drawing. It's refreshing to see a game that had hard work, dedication, and passion involved in it's development and not some recycled garbage from past years. I have found this game difficult to enjoy without a team that's willing to work together but I have 3+ friends who always squad with me so it is THE multiplayer game of the year BAR NONE in my opinion. The classes are all fun to play and fun to customize. Game modes are very limited, but when you're having fun playing them on all of the maps, it doesn't really matter. The destruction system isn't the way it should be, no real physics. graphics are OK, and so is the gameplay. I do have a little thing I hate and that is the brightness of the sun and the flashlight. The destruction properties adds a realism to the game and the campaign was amazing, non-stop action that kept me at the edge of my sit wondering what was going to happen next, what were you going to have to do to complete an objective! The campaign had a great ending (Not going to spoil) and everything following up to the final mission did connect with the last mission. Sure the campaign was long, I actually wish it was a bit longer, but the campaign offered many adrenaline-pumping moments! One very frustrating flaw that has yet to be fixed in the campaign is a man you must, in stealth, "silence" him. The issue is when you try to slowly crouch up behind him you randomly die for no reason at all, but I got past it by quickly running and stabbing him as fast as I could, it worked. Multiplayer was pretty fun, but had a few bugs and very frustrating situations. Spawning is somewhat terrible on the more smaller maps where you either spawn in the middle of a firefight or multiple enemies spawn pretty much right on top of you. Snipers, now this is a more "personal" issue, I really want to snipe like the more support-like type where I would spot enemies, tell friendlies when to move up/stop etc., and take out enemies that are just tearing down my advancing team. Sure the first and second reasons are simple enough, but the third one, snipers suck. Not the realistic bullet drop, but the damage. I shoot a guy from let's say 100 yards (guess) square in the chest, he's still running. Again, this is a more "personal" issue I have. All-in-all this game is a must buy and I haven't even covered one-eighth of the pros of this game. I love the more realistic factor of destruction properties and bullet drop and I love the vehicles! When a jet flies over my head in the game going pretty damn fast I'm awe struck just by a realistic feeling. Expand

Battlefield set the standards on how large scale multiplayer games are handled.
Unfortunately, the game has degraded in terms of gameplay for the sake of eye popping graphics.
However, Battlefield 3 is still a game worth trying due to its still addictive and action packed Multiplayer.

Do not underestimate this game, it has potential.

DICE demonstrates once again they know how to make games with huge learning curves. Only the most persistent (or masochistic) will make it beyond a few games. Death comes far too quickly and often from nowhere. Vehicles are too few and too powerful. Experienced pilots can effectively lockdown an entire 64 player map with just two jets.

Complaints aside, the game can be a lot of fun. Though it makes me long for the simpler days of Battlefield 2 or even 1942.

I didn't have to bother with the excuse that is Battlelog or Origin, because I was fortunate enough to use the console versions, which for one of the few times is an improvement from the PC. Initially, I really enjoyed the game, from the balanced guns to the awesome destruction physics and how Battlefield 3 really does incorporate team play. But after a while, the game has become almost as infuriating to me as playing Black Ops or MW2. The constant glitches with non-working glitches, the horrible hit detection from the net code, the horrible collision impact between proning halfway between walls and explosions not doing enough or too much damage, and most importantly, how the graphics completely betray your line of sight. I don't get why a "realistic shooter" thinks that "realism" is that every panel, wall and character needs to be sprayed with the colors Brown, Tan, Gray and BLUE! seriously, those are literally the only colors they have in that game! it is literally impossible for me to get my bearings on what I'm looking at, who my teammates are, who my enemies are, or what control points I'm on. The FPS on that game isn't too much of a bother to me as to others, but the blatantly poor SinglePlayer and the not worthwhile Co-Op really does hinder the value of this game. This game doesn't deserve a 0, due to some technical appeal that the game does have, but it doesn't deserve a 10 because it is FAR FROM PERFECT. They had to rush this in, without giving any thought to consumer criticism and only thought of trying to beat MW2 in the economic arms race of "realistic shooters". Battlefield 3 is such a disappointment because, once again, EA overhypes the game and believes in that "minimalist" value that they have been provoking lately. BF3 could've been a more impressive game, with all the chinks smoothened out, with a better promising Origin without your privacy ruined, and with DICE's promise of "all dlc's will be free!", I would rate this game at a 8 out of 10. My last suggestion to you is, DONT BUY BF4. please. Expand
