Firstly, single player. In one word: BORING. Lots of scenes, fluid movements, lots of talking but it doesn't want you to play any further. Been there, seen it.
Next, multiplayer. Firstly, the main problem. Client-side hit register. If your enemy hits you on their screen, you die regardless of your actual position on your screen. This, basically, defeats the whole purpose of having dedicated servers - your ping doesn't matter, if they killed you a while ago but you only saw it now because of THEIR large ping, its your problem. Its the reason I stopped playing COD:MW2 (p2p multiplayer, client-side hit register), its the reason I didn't buy COD:MW3 (same p2p). Its the reason I'm trying to get a refund on BF3 now.
Other things to mention about MP: huge but empty maps, multi-layered buildings that prevent you from seeing the outside (its too bright), tanks that are nearly indestructible to infantry (3 rockets to kill it in hardcore - you'll just die), planes that have no purpose other than fighting other planes (they can't capture points, can't deliver more than 1 player to a point).
Hardcore is no longer hardcore. You don't get infinite health, but the minimap is ALWAYS on, minimap spotting lights you up as soon as you fire a gun, killcam (which reveals your position) is almost always shown, sniper scope glare makes it easy to find the sniper no matter how good their cover is. And best of all - the most powerful sniper rifle still doesn't kill with 1 bullet. Even assault rifle HEADSHOT won't kill them with 1 hit. What kind of hardcore mode is this?
Class balance is simply awful. Medic gets it all: infinite health with medkit, 100 points per revive (same as a kill), grenade launcher (replaces medkit), assault rifles (!). Support now has only light machine guns and... ammo packs! And thats it! As a result support is now least popular class, in many cases there is no one to ask for ammo. Recon is same good old sniper, engineer is same good old rocket launcher guy.
Weapon balancing is simple: the more you progress, the better the gun. Surely you can hit and even kill with anything, but F2000+IRNV = undefeated. Add ability to put a silenver and 3rd attachment to it and you'll know it simply defeats the purpose of tactical gameplay. You can just rambo it all. In BFBC2 we couldn't rambo 24/7 because best gun was in the hands of support and medkit was in the hands of medic, and you could only find cover when being shot at by a sniper - hard to tell where they were. But at least they didn't kill you with client-side hit register (you could run into cover and it did prevent you from being hit).
I am amused at people who are able to play this game for 100s of hours. I'm trying to get a refund to buy something else.

Battlefield and Call of Duty fans have been doing this forever to each other. So I don't recommend looking up reviews for these games, but rather check them out yourself. Mt personal opinion is this game is this: it is a masterpiece. The only problem I have is with the recent patch, the first for the game. It made aircraft and helicopters super weapons. It takes ~3 rockets to kill them, but they can kill you with one bullet. I pray that they fix this error. Other than that, thumbs up from me. Expand

He is a troll, games that a dedicated for reviews scores of a 1 or below include: Hulk Hogan's Main Event, and Big Rigs: Over the Road racing. Now, onto my review. I know what people say about the campaign, but I personally loved it. The deaths were not expected, but were actually believeable. The main story might've been a little cliched, but what happened in the game itself was different than what was done before. Now, the score: The score is absolutely amazing, and after I right this, I will proceed to buy it off of iTunes. The music isn't always blaring in your ears, but when it is playing, it really compliments the game. The mulitplayer is one word: competely expectation- shattering. I was maybe a little scared about how Battlefield 3 would be, but all my doubts were put to death. The multiplayer is amazing. You can't wait to get your next unlock, and DICE doesn't shove a new unlock down your throat every game, conquest NEEDS teamwork, and so does rush, which seperates battlefield from other FPS games. Btw, jkneuper, I'm sorry, but you are an idiot. Squad voice chat is by no means a reason to reduce a games review score by 8 pts. You can communicate with them with text chat by pressing L, or have them be your friends (unless you don't have any :P) and join their party, or Ventrilo or Teamspeak. I have played Battlefield since the beginning and it is amazing to see how it has grown. The sound is absolutely amazing, and as are the graphics if your pc can support it. Best graphics I have EVER seen in an FPS, and best sound. I truly recommend this title to anybody who likes FPSs. It blows the competition away. Expand

The graphics are amazing even on medium settings and the combat plentiful and fun. The only major drawback are that the jets are quite worthless compared to the original Battlefield 2. EA has done a great job on this. Two thumbs way up!

I'm new to the series and bought this game pre-release because it looked really good. And I was right. The visuals was amazing. I did not however realize that this was primarely a multiplayer game.

Now, I don't think it's fair to downrate a game too much because of my expectations. I'm not a big fan of multiplayer. It's a world unknown to me habitated by invincible players too good for me

Now, I don't think it's fair to downrate a game too much because of my expectations. I'm not a big fan of multiplayer. It's a world unknown to me habitated by invincible players too good for me to enjoy it. I don't really have the time, nor do I want to improve. So I'm more of a single player, story-mode player.

The single player was short, uninspiring and like any other cliché. It's like the writers have some sort of story generator with just a few factors like: "Russian" "Middle East" "Conspiracy" "Explosions" "American hero" etc. It's boring and a perspective we've all seen too much of in movies and games. I don't honestly think that this is what players want. Now, imagine this beautifully developed game with a solid single player story mode. A story mode that had the same magnitude as, let's say, Skyrim or Fallout. Where you develop your character. Explore cities, "dungeons" etc. Sounds like a roleplaying game but it really doesn't have to be.

All in all not worth the money if you're looking for a single player adventure. I really can't speak for the multiplayer community though.

    2. engineers should be nerfed or make all classes engineers. the reason I say this is that they can kill everything. they can equip mines and rockets. there carbines are insane. they are what you say one man army's
    3. recons are raped in this game, I played recon in BC2 and its a difficult class to play I loved the snipes across the map considering the bullet drop and determing the path the player would walk. the mortar was a game turner. what we get now is the soflam only usefull when there is a engineer with a stinger. and is paying attention. and that is the problem with this multiplayer game, they expect it to be teambased combat. but it isnt most of the players are lonewolfs. one can blame the players. I blame the developer for creating a environment which allows this. I am still a fan of minus points. are you being a dickhead and you want to kill a lot of ppl instead of getting to the target you get a penalty. that is what I call realistic. in the army they arent happy with triggerhappy nutsacks.

last thing I have to say is that the so called destruction in this game is at a minimum, remember in bc2 where you can level almost a whole map.. that isnt in bf3 and that was for me such a let down. if there was lots of destruction in this game I could live with my earlier made points. but the lack of it , I cant play it anymore it gets on my nerves more then I enjoy it. back to BC2 I say.

It took me quite some time fiddeling with settings, downloading beta drivers and waiting for patches before I could play versus multiplayer games without crashing to desktop every 5 minutes, but it works now. It still feels like a battlefield game, with a nice blend of the features of Battlefield 2 and Bad Company. Unlocking gadgets and weapons is a nice draw, but I do have a problem with how much of a hassle it is to change your kits. It can only be done in-game . You'd think after making us put up with a that pointless webbased interface in battlelog, they'd at least let you use it to customize your loadout, but no. If you die, you get an unskippable view of your killer, before you get 3 seconds to decide where you want to spawn and what your loadout will be. And if you want to change your scope, you need to go through 5 different menus, while the game goes on without you. And in general, Origin and Battlelog are just a pain to deal with compared with the in game server browser from previous games. It adds no value for the player, so I can only assume it's used for EA's sake.

The coop missions are decent, but there's too few of them, they get pretty predictable, and they really don't make enough use of the fact that the game has a good vehicle system. There's only one coop mission where you get to fly an attack helicopter, and you don't even get to fight other helicopters, just some ground units that pose only a small threat. Why there isn't a mission where one player provides air support in a fighter or scout chopper with miniguns while the other player calls targets and clears indoor areas, or one drives a tank and the other an APC or AA vehicle, or one drives a humvee while the other one takes the machine gun, I don't know. I hope EA makes a few more missions that play to Battlefield's strengths, instead of featuring corridor-shootouts with little more teamplay beyond picking your co-op partner of the ground if he gets shot.. I generally love co-op levels, but here they're just acceptable, when all the tools to make them great are already in the game.

The singleplayer campaign is worse though. The story is a pitfull rehash of Modern Warfare's, the areas look nice but are all pretty linear, the gunplay is acceptable but nothing special, and again the game does almost nothing with the fact that the game already features many fully simulated and controlable vehicles. The tank levels are about the only ones make a little bit of use of the capabilities of the game. The fighter-jet level is pathetic though. It's just an on-rails section as the copilot, and since you shoot guided missiles it isn't even a fun on-rails section, followed by a less intense ripoff of the gunship level from MW1 where you point at targets on the ground for other planes to shoot. Why they put actual time into programming the controls for this section when they could've let you fly a plane yourself with the same controls as in multiplayer baffles me. In summary, good multiplayer (though not many features previous games didn't already have), nice graphics, poor single player, average co-op, and annoying features (Origin & Battlelog) that are of more value to EA than their customers.

Better maps, mostly better weapons, and sniper class has taken a fall with scope glint, no magnum ammo, and the new bullet drop animation can be a nuisance to tell where the bullet is hitting. The game has frequent issues such as 'stopped working' which i've noticed has been an issue for some people since launch, yet all they offer in response is 'google chrome's fault, or x-fire's fault'. Essentially what could have been a great game is still fairly beta quality, presumably due to trying to release before MW3. While this move may have worked for sales of this game, it will hurt long time followers of the battlefield series who, at this point, want nothing more to do with them. Expand

Think it's cheap that the one guy is just hanging out behind that one wall all the time killing people?? Just blow up the wall! The other great thing is that you get points for supporting your team, giving them health or supplies, etc... so you can upgrade your character without doing any killing if you so choose to.

My system is about a year old if not more, but pretty hefty built. It handles the game well, sometimes some choppiness but nothing game killing.

I haven't noticed very many horrible glitches personally, just the occasional killed body bouncing around, or camera inside a wall when showing who killed you. So really nothing that kills the game for me.

    Anyway.

Graphic wise, I had issue with the facial expressions of the humans though. They were very detailed dolls. It's a small disappointment considering the amount of effort put into making realistic motion and such, but you're not staring at faces most of the time in BF3 eh? Apart from the slightly laggish rendering that's pronouced when looking around quickly, the environments and vehicles were fantastic, as expected.

The music sucks, but the sound effects were great.

The campaign was rubbish. After all their marketing and insecure justifications, it's just a wannabe COD campaign. The story was...o-k...but it was poorly narrated. Honestly, Bad Company had much better campaigns. Heck, even the rubbish thrown out by Treyarch's better. Just.

Multiplayer is where is shines. As expected from the BF series, maps can be huge and when playing with the right group of people, expect epic battles and intense tit-for-tat movement of objectives. However, compared to COD multiplayer, the learning curve is higher and the pace is much slower, so, unfortunately, fantastic game though it is, it'll very unlikely surpass COD as one of the hottest multiplayer franchises.

After over 3+ hours of EA "support" they finally told me that my realtek onboard audio was prohibiting the game from running. In an attempt to call Bull I uninstalled my realtek audio drivers and disabled my onboard audio and it still wouldn't work. I have also tried all the "fixes" out there on the internet but still no dice. Until EA/DICE fixes this, this game gets a 0.

    P.S. I have a 6870 and a Phenom II X4 and 8GB Ram, should run fine.

Game itself is an great looking and typical multiplayer, so don't expect any epic storyline in singleplayer - it's rather lazy tutorial. CoD's influence isn't the worst thing in this game, however it's absolutely not my taste. The annoyance is Battlelog, which makes me run internet browser to log in. What an brilliant idea... The game tried to hard to be realistic and gameplay should always come first. There's flashlights that blind your screen from across the map in broad daylight. The particle effects went so overboard the game is one big dust cloud most the time. The muzzle flash from enemies and infared both blind you, If you look face the direction where the sun is overhead you get blinded, and i thoughtThe game tried to hard to be realistic and gameplay should always come first. The maps are too big and too much time is spent wandering around doing nothing, the maps are poorly designed and if they were designed better it would force ppl into conflict more often.

The knife never works unless you press up against the player, it's like the guy has no arms.

The biggest issue and what makes this the worst campfest around is you get killed in 2 shots by any gun and the red flash you get when being shot blinds your entire screen so reacting is taking out of the equation.

I never played BF2 or any titles prior. But I have played BC2 and decided this game was worth a try. It really is a fun game. I always like to start new games like this off by playing the single player campaign first. The single player is not very fun. It's a lot of button smashing/ button sequences.. *yawn.* This was clearly an attempt to become more like other games *cough* COD *cough.*I never played BF2 or any titles prior. It's a lot of button smashing/ button sequences.. *yawn.* This was clearly an attempt to become more like other games *cough* COD *cough.* but don't let that keep you from buying this game. The multiplayer on this game is AWESOME. No crappy matchmaking like COD, dedicated servers, vehicles, huge maps, servers up to 64 players, vehicles etc. There are a few drawbacks for me. As a long time COD player, I am use to very fluid motions in game, very fast reloads, fast stance changing etc. The body mechanics in this game are SO stiff and rigid. One thing I have never understood about games is when the mechanics are different in single player than multiplayer. In single player you can go from prone to crouch, crouch to standing, or any variation without ever breaking your aim (aim down sight) and go from prone to sprint very quickly but in the multiplayer if you're prone you break your aim and slowly prop yourself up then have to re-aim again. Reloading (especially anti-air and anti-tank missiles feels like it takes hours). Though these aren't vital to games success it is hard to get use to. With all of my criticisms out of the way this game is FANTASTIC. If you have friends who play this game you can all squad up, and coordinate attacks, objectives etc. and it actually brings teamwork to multiplayer (something COD REALLLY lacks). I started off not liking the stiffness of this game but as I've played longer and longer it is CLEARLY the choice over Modern Warfare 3. This game was designed with the PC player in mind. I've played on the xbox 360 and PC and the graphics on PC make xbox graphics look like a 5 year old's hand drawing. It's refreshing to see a game that had hard work, dedication, and passion involved in it's development and not some recycled garbage from past years. I have found this game difficult to enjoy without a team that's willing to work together but I have 3+ friends who always squad with me so it is THE multiplayer game of the year BAR NONE in my opinion. Three words: Bad Company Two! Really- whats the difference between this game and Bad Company 2. I shoot at a window and it doesn't break? Did we just go back in time and not be able to break windows? This game said it was going to have top notch graphics? What so top notch about it? The only improvement i see is in the indv. chars. That's it.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.

No, Battlefield 3 is not the best game of today. But good looking – definitely. It also has an absolutely addictive multiplayer. Who needs more? [Dec 2011]

Both a triumphant leap forward and a return to form for the Battlefield series. This is the best multiplayer shooter on PC. [Christmas 2011, p.58]
