  1. Offers a lot of content, much more so than what was available in "Road to Rome." The fact that it comes bundled with the v1.45 patch means that players will be treated to a slightly improved physics model, more player animation and better sounds, as well as numerous bug fixes and other minor tweaks.
  2. Offers a lot of new vehicles, weapons, and maps to give you even more of what you've been playing this game for all this time. It is a solid and enjoyable addition to the BF series that just makes that game even more addictive and gives you some new ways to play and new toys to play with.

While single-player practice against AI teams feels drab and slow-paced, a full-blown multiplayer melee with more than 20 people per team is flat-out amazing. [Dec 2003, p.136]
  4. This last bit of fuel injection for the aging Battlefield engine is worth the money. [Dec 2003, p.138]

As a Battlefield 1942 fan, I can't help but get excited about the new stuff; but at the same time I feel like I'm ready for something really new to push this game beyond its basics. [Sept 2003, p.123]

The balance is still superb, the physics system embraces the new jet-powered vehicles, and the new maps allow for gameplay almost as compelling as you'd find on Wake or Market Garden.
  7. Its additions are extremely enjoyable to play around with and, in some cases, really change the gameplay of the original in new and intriguing ways.
  8. The new Objective mode adds a whole lot of challenge in multiplayer. [Nov 2003, p.88]
  9. A great addition to the original game. With 16 new maps, seven new weapons including anti-missiles, gadgets like the jet pack and new vehicles like the Sherman tank, to say that this expansion pack cuts the mustard would be an understatement.

Kamikaze air attacks, det-pack-laden jeeps, hijacking enemy vehicles - it's rare for a round to go by without something amusing happening. With this expansion, DICE has taken the comedy potential of BF1942 to new heights.

Considering that some of the maps in the "Road to Rome" expansion were spectacular, it's hard to justify dropping $30 on another set of maps and some vehicles.
  12. What's going to annoy people most is that the purists will want things like the mobile spawn point of the C-47, but won't be able to have them without the jet fighters and flyable missiles. And ultimately, that might mean these Secret Weapons remain completely unknown to most. [PC Gamer UK]

The so-called "secret weapons" aren't worth the price of admission alone, and the maps aren't as good as those from The Road to Rome, but the combination of the two makes Secret Weapons an expansion any Battlefield fan should give serious consideration to.
  14. If the fantasy element turns you on then go for it. Otherwise, you’re not missing much. The old formula is beginning to look dog-eared.
  15. An expansion pack done right; it breathes some new life into the game with various extras and will have players heading back to the servers. It isn't flawless, but it's definitely a lot of fun and far better than "Road to Rome."
  16. The pack does inject some honestly good, fun and creative features into what is still one of our favourite multiplayer games to date. It alters it to the point that it feels like a slightly different game, and it's a commendable effort by DICE to refresh and revive the BF1942 experience.

Some weapons are not so hot, but it has some great new maps. [Oct 2003, p.65]

They don't feel much different from regular guns and planes. [Dec 2003, p.86]

Too little add-ons. The new vehicles are a bit too ridiculous.
