That said, I still recommend this game, because it is among the best stories and voice acting you will find in a game. The game play is very enjoyable, and among the most enjoyable as well, in my opinion. The combat is very smooth and fun. The graphics are still on par with games in 2020. The detective method in this game is absolutely fantastic.

I would rarely consider a game with game breaking bugs worth recommending, but this game is an absolute joy and worth it for the story and/or game play alone.

Not as good as the first two but that doesn't mean it's bad. It is not really a big improvement from city as city was from asylum, bu still it is an excellent game with what might be the best story and atmosphere in the series and of course boss fights. It should not be ignored by people who are planning to play this series.

This game is a HUGE step back from the series. The story feels like its thrown together and I can't even get past a boss (Deathstroke) when I'm only 7% into the game. I play games for fun, this is in no way fun at all.

The combat system has definitely fallen far from the majestic tree that was Arkham City. Some gamers claim that it's just harder because it's technically earlier in the story line and Batman is less experienced. As a programmer I can tell you that's not the case. It's simply buggy. You will die a lot and it will not be fair or fun.

It's fun, but this is the black sheep of the Arkham series by far. Too many poor decisions were made to "expand" (really just "make easier) the game.

The plot was exciting until the twist, when it was revealed that are main villain was, once again, the Joker. Be bold, game developers. It's better to be remembered for doing something that was too bold, than to be forgotten for playing it

The plot was exciting until the twist, when it was revealed that are main villain was, once again, the Joker. Be bold, game developers. It's better to be remembered for doing something that was too bold, than to be forgotten for playing it safe. I will say that immediately upon completing the main campaign, there is nothing left to do that makes me care about playing it anymore.

    Voice actors were solid.

Biggest complaint is with the technical aspect. This game was running 60fps on max settings throughout until the one level when you return to Blackgate and fight in a prison room full of fire and moving cloth. Suddenly, despite lowering all of my GFX settings to the lowest, I had to fight in 12-20fps, which made the fight challenging only because I could no longer accurately keep my free flow rhythm going. Terrible decision on the developers part to utilize a piece of software for just one level without really doing any quality checks.

Solid game that is not quite as good as Asylum or City, but good enough to satisfy fans of DC comics and Batman.

Pros - Most of the villains origins stories are well done (Penguin, Bane, and Riddler) - Snow effects and Dx11 effects are nice, and run well on good hardware (optimized) - Good boss fights, better than City or Asylum - Good soundtrack Cons - horrible joker back story

In my opinion that's exactly what they did with this game. In honesty this game wasn't a complete failure, but it didn't have the heart the previous two games did. As you play throughout the game you can generally tell the developers were sloppy and a lot of things will persistently bother you. I was a bit disappointed, as it was pretty clear this game was designed to be a guaranteed quick money grab riding on the success of the former batman games. But I'll give it a little credit, this game is still better than most of the trash they release these days. The story was good but not great. That's why I gave it a 7, which is a C, which is barely passing.

Around the middle of the game I became frustrated by all of the things that was wrong with this game and I started to take note of them. I have decided to inform you so that you may be warned. They aren't spoilers:

There are a LOT of things wrong with the combat system. Let me explain a few. I remember playing the previous two batman games and often getting 100x hit combos. It was difficult, but I remember it used to be deeply satisfying. In this game, that is nearly impossible. It's not that it is harder, but it is simply impossible to avoid getting hit under certain circumstances regardless of your playing skill. The problem is the "counter windows" (the little lightening symbols that indicate when an enemy is about to strike). Contrary to the previous two games, the "counter windows" are significantly shortened in this game. It is so short now in fact, that certain attack moves by batman take longer to execute than how long it takes for an enemy to display a "counter window", which leads to batman getting hit no matter what. Let me hit you with an example. Batman begins a double-front-flip-roundhouse-kick-to-the-face on a thug. In the middle of it, another thug comes up to him and throws a haymaker (the "counter window"). However, the "counter window" is so short now that batman cannot do anything except watch as he gets smacked before his foot connects to his original target. If the "counter window" were longer, batman would have countered the other thug before or after he had successfully kicked the other thug. This to me, is a major MAJOR flaw in an originally perfect, unique, and badazz combat system. I am extremely puzzled as to why the developers intentionally tweaked something so that it would be fundamentally broken. My guess to their answer is "we did this to make the combat harder". BULL. This is frustrating, not more challenging. Why take a perfect formula and ruin it? This totally turns me off from playing the combat bonus levels. Another thing that is wrong with the combat: lame gadgets. I know this was supposed to be "younger batman" but did they really have to take away all the fun gadgets? In arkham city I had so much fun chaining my combos being creative with so many of the quickfire gadgets. It was fantastic. Now there's only like four quickfire combat gadgets. And they're nothing new (ice grenade re-branded glue grenade? seriously?). And one more thing for the combat system: You cannot execute a glide kick unless you start from a ledge. Remember in the previous games when you were flying you got a little bat symbol over a thug's head if you could glide kick them (and it told you to press left click to execute)? Yeah, it's glitched even after the patch.

And overall the game's just filled with glitches that constantly annoy you. The silent takedown from the back of an enemy sometimes just doesn't work and you end up awkwardly running into them and getting shot in the face. And there's a gadget called the disruptor (the same gadget that disables guns and such in arkham city, except heavily nerfed) in which its bullets sometimes do not register on the enemy. One time with the disruptor I shot an enemy with a gun about 20 feet away, clear line of sight, and I ended up using all of its three shots simply because it glitched and wouldn't disable his gun.

Sometimes you finish a sidequest and the game tells you "you have unlocked a new waynetech upgrade" but it does not tell me which freakin upgrade I unlocked, or how to perform or use it. So I end up going through a good chunk of the game without knowing I could use a really cool combat move but couldn't because it didn't tell me about it.

One of the biggest letdowns of the game were its bosses. To describe them in three words without spoiling anything: uninteresting, unintimidating, and repetitive. I remember the good bosses of this game in the past: fighting killer croc, in which you just felt so helpless and terrified, and fighting mister freeze, in which he learned your fighting techniques against him and countered you.

I would recommend this game if it were around $20.

Loved the first 2 games in the series but was really put off this by the bad reviews.
I'm so glad I took a chance with it and have loved it all the way through. If you loved the first games then this is right up there. Ok there isn't anything 'innovative' and it follows a similar formula to Arkham City, but seriously.... If it isn't broken, don't try and fix it!

I played this game in 2022 and it's kinda embarrassing how many bugs it has. They definitely get in the way of your fun. Enemies teleport around, the cape gets crazy and little bumpers on the ground block your way.

More of the same thing we had in arkham city, and I couldn't be happier about it. I haven't had any problems at all with glitches or technical issues, but I'm playing it 7 months after release so it may have been patched. I think the new devs have done a great job and I can't wait for the next installment. Love this game and the series.

When Arkham Asylum first came on to the scene, it changed a lot of what we expect for Batman games. Unfortunately the design and game mechanics were so popular at the time of release that it simply encouraged game developers to continue to copy the play mechanics for every iteration going forward.

While this is an enjoyable game, that doesn't mean there aren't glairing issues with the product. The biggest being that it's simply a mimic of it's predecessors. You really aren't going to find anything new or unique with the game if you've played the previous installments.

"Detective Mode" can be a frustrating experience. It often involves you just wandering around a crime scene, scanning objects until you meet a certain percent of the current investigation and then using Batman's seemingly magical technology to reconstruct the crime scene, to the point you can even reward and fastforward it. It's tedious and boring. It would have been better if they had just changed these into cutscenes or something. As it is right now, the only thing I can see this mechanic as, is filler to pad out the length of the game.

Combat can be satisfying at times, but relies on a lot of context senestive situations and as a result, players are often going to just find themselves mashing buttons instead of engaging in any sort of meaningful combat. This problem is often compounded by the fact most boss fights in this game are really nothing more than a series of quick time events.

It's not a bad game by any means, but it features many repetitive mechanics in the game that can make it long winded and tedious. If you are a fan of the other games, it's likely you'll enjoy this one too, but I recommend you wait to buy this game until it's on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoy playing as batman, and I like the ability to use the batwing to get from one end to the other quickly. However, this batman seems to lack something. It's noticible that splash damage made this game, the makers of Brink, and not rocksteady. It's just not as fun when thinking of the other two previous games.

I'm also not keen on the forced online mode. It doesn't seem fun at all trying to play FPS in batman game. Sure wish this was batman and robin playing together through the city in co-op mode, with more story. That would have been fun.

WARNING: THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT

mARK HAMill is the only joker outside of Heath Ledger, or Jack Nicolson. The Joker in this seems forced, too different in character from the other games. The change of both batman and Joker's voice in this game broke the asthetic for me, and the connection the other two games built.

Disappointingly, this entry in the Arkham series falls short and fails to live up to expectations. Here are several reasons why it missed the mark:

The once valuable Detective mode has been downgraded to the point of near-uselessness.

The game's visuals are excessively dark, making it difficult to see, compounded by convoluted pathways, dead-ends, and misleading textures.

Numerous detective mode "puzzles" rely on tedious rewinding and fast hints that are easily missed, with no option to hear them again. The lack of map indicators adds to the frustration.

Bugs plague the game, such as following a sniper trajectory, losing it after a misstep, and never finding it again. Again, the absence of map assistance exacerbates the issue.

Script overlaps occur frequently, interrupting bomb defusals with sudden triggered crimes or cutscenes, while the bomb timer continues to run.

The game unnecessarily expands its complexity, leading to moments of extreme frustration. Searching for hidden paths becomes a repetitive cycle of jumping, sliding, and looking around with no apparent solution, thanks to a poorly designed detective mode. It's a frustrating experience.

Contrary to popular opinion, the story fails to impress. It is as lackluster as the overall game, and attempts to justify it as a redeeming factor would be disingenuous.

Boss battles prove exhausting, particularly the infamous encounter with Deathstroke. Many players have abandoned the game at this point, and subsequent boss battles are even worse, featuring drawn-out fights with overwhelming numbers or contradicting Batman's principles.

Side missions offer little enjoyment. Penguin's crate challenges, enigma quests devoid of riddles, and others feel poorly tested, with difficulty levels spiking abruptly.

The game suffers from a multitude of bugs. Batman's movements glitch frequently, preventing successful ambushes or resulting in awkward gliding and inability to navigate obstacles. Invisible walls impede progress, while enemies exhibit unrealistic behavior, constantly changing direction.

Takedowns and combat controls are frustratingly imprecise. Ground takedowns often fail, auto-locking glitches in critical areas, and silent takedowns take too long to execute effectively. Environmental objects are poorly placed and fail to incapacitate enemies adequately. The grading system for fights often provides inexplicable and unjust ratings.

The story revolves around rediscovering familiar villains, perpetuating a tiresome narrative trope.

An inconveniently located bridge at the town's center hampers efficient travel to mission objectives, with an obstructing building that forces circumnavigation.

While more points could be raised, it suffices to say that this installment stands as the weakest in the Batman series. Even Sega's "Batman and Robin" manages to outshine it, which speaks volumes about the game's overall quality."

This Batman, howeverTaking over from Rocksteady for the third game, WB Games Montréal tries to reach the heights of the first two Arkham games with an interesting origin story of the Dark Knight. But can they live deliver and live up on the expectations? It's around two years after Bruce has put on the mask for the first time, so he still supposed to be a newbie at his outings at night. This Batman, however can act and look like a beginner but his moves tell us otherwise.

When it comes to gameplay Origins is almost a clone to Arkham City. The combos, special moves and counters look and feel like the same. There are time when you feel the new team tried to innovate here and there, but those, like countering enemies, aren't decisive enough. On the other hand any game would be delighted to have a combat system like Arkham City, so in the matter of fact the gameplay still works perfectly. It's just that the innovation is missing, which is the game's greatest flaw. There are new gadgets, but even those are sometimes carbon copies of the missing ones, for example the Glue Grenade which has the exact same effect as the Freeze Grenade in Arkham City.

One thing you can certainly be hyped for in the game is its story. The game delivers from that perspective putting in front of you a greatly crafted, interesting story which is furthermore amplified by the cast. The Joker, Bane, Black Mask star in the game but others have their important roles as well. It's a tale that is on par with the comic books. And one more word about the cast; even though the Batman's and Joker's voices has been replaced most of the time you won't notice any major difference as Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker both make hard effort to genuinely impersonate those two epic characters.

So, yes 8 assassins are after you on Christmas Eve to kill you even though you aren't as big player in Gotham as you'll become. Interestingly not all of them get the same amount of space. One thing the games does very well are the boss fights. In the first two games there weren't any really challenging and grand boss fights as we had hoped for (except Poison Ivy), but in this game almost every boss has its differently paced fight. There is a different strategy to beating every one of them. This keeps the games varied and you'll always look forward to the next boss. While beating up assassins and progressing in the story there is the moment when you suddenly realize that "this is THE time". The time when those two will meet...for the first time...and you are about to witness it all. It's a thing the creators weren't allowed to screw up. It had to be epic. And it is. The time when Joker reflects on his first meeting with Batman is just unbelievably awesome.

Arkham Origins is a really good looking game but there is very little innovation over Arkham City. It's not the best looking game of 2013, but looks great enough to hold up with the competition. Mainly the character models are those that stand out. Batman, Joker, Bane and all of the major characters look detailed. On the audio front it isn't as strong as City. Simply the prominent melodies aren't there that support you as the predator of the night. It's a bit of a disappointment.

After you finish the main campaign, which shouldn't take longer than 8 hours, you can do the side-quests Arkham City style. The overall content here is somewhat less than in the second game, but you can easily squeeze out 20 hours by searching every inch of Gotham for data packs and tags on wall. What is very discouraging that WB Montréal didn't have the balls to bring some innovation where they really could have. And those are the side quests, which are again mostly copies of those in Arkham City. There you had to look for phones by the time the counter hit zero, here you have to race to bombs. Before you had to collect question marks, here you have to pick up data packs. The names and locations are changed, but most of the work you have to do remained the same. If this wasn't a Batman game everybody would call it a rip-off. Crime scene investigations are the one that stands out. Those are really new and fun, but it's not groundbreaking. We appreciate the effort though. When you're finished you can fight in the familiar challenge mode or the new multiplayer.

Batman: Arkham Origins is a super game that took everything that made Arkham Origins a stellar title and kept all of them. However, they played it very safe introducing only a handful innovation none of which is strong enough to hold out. The side-quests are a real disappointment. When you are like Arkham City you are great, but after playing that game for 40 hours it's not enough just to be like it. Fans will appreciate the story, but everything else (missions, quests, places, etc.) is something we have seen already. And this is why the game will divide fans and players.

Rating: 85/100; Replay Value: 3/5; To Beat: 8 hours (main campaign), 20+ hours (with collectibles); Played on: normal.

If you wish to play a game like Arkham City, go play Arkham City. Arkham Origins is a total ''rip-off'', and it doesn't change a thing about the previous game. But I like it even more than City. Story is very good, combat is the same aka. perfect, and the new Gotham is very dark and mysterious as a place itself. Multiplayer isn't that good, but it's still enjoyable. Do recommend!

---FAstForward a year and I got a new awesome ASUS PC desktop and saw it for $5 on steam February 2016 & jumped on it & haven't looked back..its amazing how many of my console games are improved on PC, but rarely is it ever vice versa and better on console..Even if graphics are identical.
it always comes down to two features. Anytime saving & MOUSE. I dunno why theres no mouse and keyboard style setup for newer consoles..whatevs...

--Batman AO is sooooooo underrated. ill explain
-Arkham City is better in everyway except 1 then Arkham Asylum- And that 1 thing is originalit...
-AA was brand new- 1st time we got to see Killer Croc in super HD
-And the eerie setting of Arkham Asylum...
---So enter Arkham City and we can soar and really get addicted to The Glide feature..
B U T Arkham City is kinda too spread out.. but that's hardely a complaint..
--I love how Arkham Origins expanded on The Riddler Intel goons in green highlights..This was always fun to track them downor save them for last when fighting...
---Arkham Knights batmobile isn't that bad BUT it clearly took development away from the core gameplay enhancements...

BOTTOM LINE- Arkham Origins is my persona Favorite and HIGH-POINT of the series..
    ~A UNPOPULAR OPINION for sure....

the people who hate on it because its not rocksteady need to step back and see how fanboy or make believe rocksteady employee sounding that stance is...Kudos to WB for going into this without the Mark Hammil voice and knowing the fanbase is now loyal to Rock Steady..

---ROCKSTEADY needs to just REBOOT the series with a fresh brand new storyline..
And is there a better storyline then INJUSTICE? (The comics, not the game) Batman & Constantine & DR.Fatye and Zatana and all the anti superman heroes & villains join batman. even Zeus & Olympus join batman LOL..this would be such a grandious storyline....but any rebooted storline would do..I think the 'HUSH' storyline was special because it envolved the whooooole batman heroes & villains.. thasts what a new game needs. Not Deathstroke....

The whole weakspot of the whole Arkham series is THE STORY. out of all the batman stories todo - they pick one where the joker OD's on Banes Venom. palease!

play this game if you haven't alrteady & its only $5 on steam RIGHT NOW. (sorry for the rant)

I've been playing games longer than I care to remember. I find myself using the walkthrough for this game more than any game I can recall. The story is very linear, so if you decide to go "open" and roam about to do random things, it's sometimes hard to get back on track. In some parts of the side missions, you can find yourself in a dead end with no obvious way to proceed, thus the need for the walkthroughs.

Combat has been made noticeably harder, and it's not uncommon to get into situations where you can do little more than wait for enemy attacks and repeatedly counter until the number of enemies get to a manageable level. Note I'm playing on "normal" and am not great at "button masher" combat, but had no issues with Arkham Asylum or Arkham City.

Other than some of the villains, this game really brings nothing new to the series. You're just as well to go back and play either Arkham Asylum or Arkham City again, to be honest. The "year zero" approach just doesn't work for me. Revealing Joker as if Batman didn't know who he was? I understand what the makers are trying to do, but this approach is lame for anyone other than those who are truly noobs to the character. If this approach had been used in the first game, it would not have been any more effective, but would have at least been a logical progression.

I will say that the Cold, Cold Heart campaign is the one exception to my comments above. I don't want to spoil it for anyone that is considering a purchase and wants surprises, but this part of the game was original and broke the mold (as much as you can) compared to AA and AC. I find myself wondering why this wasn't rolled into the overall game as the starting point for the "real" campaign... oh, well.

If you're looking for something fresh and original in the Batman Arkham series, this really isn't it. If you're ok with something that's largely a replay of AA and AC, with a little freshness from Cold, Cold Heart? Overall, I find this game more frustrating from getting stuck than fun from the limited freshness. Since I have to pick up or down, I pick down because I don't like games that make me (a reasonably intelligent and long-time gamer) get angry. Hopefully my comments have given you enough context that you can make you're own decision.

If you get a good deal and REALLY like Batman, you probably won't be disappointed. Even though I get angry at times, I'm "pushing through the pain" for now to see how the rest of the story unfolds. That said, if you were here in my house you would hear far more cussing at the computer screen than is normally the case with games I choose to invest time in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoilers are minor background facts that reveal which characters are in the game and what their motivation/methods are, not plot-twist spoilers.

Have finished the story mode for Batman Arkham Origins. It's not that I'd say to avoid it when it hits the bargain bin, but on the whole it's a real disappointment for fans of the Arkham franchise.

First, the good: There are a couple of fun new gadgets. The remote claw bring a little relief to Predator Encounters, and the shock gloves really do help in combat encounters. Everything else new is redundant. The idea of Riddler hiding blackmail information makes more sense than those dumb question marks from the first two games. Bringing in a lot more super-villains is a fun idea in story-planning if not perfectly executed in story-telling.

Also, the combat objective xp system is really fun. There are three categories of 15 combat achievements each. Accomplishing each achievement results in xp and certain ones unlock new attacks or gadgets. A good idea and provides some fun new challenges.
Now, the bad: The story is outlandish, and not in the accepted "super-villains are outlandish" way. The timeline, motivations, and responses from everyone but Bats don't make any sense.

The game embarrassed me a little, because for three or four years I've bragged on the franchise never needing patches. It's always been ready to go right out of the box. Not this time. Every other time I played I'd hit some point where a line of code didn't respond as expected, keeping a fight scene from starting or ending or keeping an objective from being fulfilled (or recognizing that one had been fulfilled). There are also some graphics bugs, including a ridiculous hiccup that attacks Batman's gliding animation every so often.

The combat engine has been tweaked (but I don’t think re-written entirely). NPCs strike MUCH more frequently and much faster than before, which makes sense. However you can't necessarily block their strikes if you're in mid-animation; of course other times you can block even if you're in the middle of an elaborate animation. Inconsistent. The increased attack frequencies make you re-think your approach to combat, and if you want those high multipliers (especially before you get the shock gloves), you'll need to get comfortable doing 3-4 blocks in a row, attacking a couple of times, and settling in for 3-4 more blocks before another set of attacks. Once you get ok with this, you can start getting 50+ multipliers without a problem. Fight it, though, and you'll actually get killed a lot more than you'd expect.

The voice acting is definitely inferior to both original games. Gordon's may be the only voice that got the same actor. Bat's actor doesn't know how to deliver a menacing line at all (it doesn't help that Origin's writers weren't nearly as creative with his intimidation lines) and has a nasty habit of emphasizing words that neighbor the ones he should really punch. Joker's actor sounds more irritated than psychopathic. Bane's is forgettable. Barb's is that of a 16 year old girl.

Riddler's, however, is still pretty decent, though the emergence story they try to tell doesn't make sense in the context of the character. Here he's driven by a desire to route out corruption (using corrupt methods, granted). This contrasts pretty strongly against his usual motivation--self-glorification and the need to pack a sucking chest wound of inferiority.

Overall, across the spectrum of all video games you can buy at this point, I'd give it a B+/A-. On the spectrum of games we expect real quality from (COD, Battlefield, Arkham, Borderlands, Bioshock, etc, etc), I'd give it a D+/C-.

    Story:

Now, my favourite aspect of a game's story is the level of urgency (hence why Bioshock 1 is my least favourite of the 3 and why I just never got into the Last of Us (and probably wouldn't care much for 2 souls)). I dont feel the initial rush I felt in either Asylum or City. Man, those games were great at the beginning, so immersive. This one left me a bit in the cold (HA! Cause it's winter...). The story seemed hap hazard, which makes sense for a more open world game. This game, more unlike the other two, wants to be an open world game where you are Batman doing whatever Batman has to do, confronting a bunch of villains a night. I prefer stories where the city is actually at stake, rather than my own life (or rather, Batman's life). This game is more personal and more akin to an open world game like Skyrim than a metroid vania type game with a singular story.

In Arkham Origins, there is a scene where people are held hostage and batman tells Alfred he has to handle it first before doing anything else. There was great immediacy. But then I realized I didnt have to help right away. I could scan some tagged buildings or take out one of Enigma's networks. Even while on the actual mission, I can just do whatever I want when I want to.

    Game Design

My complaints are on this game having a different intention than the previous where it is trying to be more of a grand theft auto game. HOWEVER, if it is to have different intentions, then why is it a copy paste of the other games? Especially City. This angers me to no end. Yes, I agree, the riddler trophies in City may have been tedious, but I didnt see it that way then. I needed this game to see it, and you know why? Because it's the same thing. Everything has been copy pasted. Instead of Zsaz making you travel to a location, you have Anarky. Instead of riddler trophies, you have data packs instead of riddler signs that only get revealed with detective vision (my personal favourite from Azylum), you have Anarcky tags (why would he use invisible ink to tag big buildings to show that he's an activist, isn't that counter intuitive?), instead of Venom containers, you have Black Mask drug containers (I think), DeadShot is still just a sidequest like before (after all that marketing, really?), instead of TIGER Cameras, you have Riddler network servers/modems/antennas and the list goes on. There is no inventiveness; it’s just a tedious copy paste of previous missions that are included here because they were found in other games before. This makes no sense story wise and is very boring game play wise.

If you really want this Batman game, at least wait till after Christmas when it’s cheaper.

Batman Arkham Origins is a prequel to the series and although it is not as revolutionary as the other two games I would say it is still a great addition to the series. This game features Batman meeting some of the Gotham super-villains for the first time such as The Joker, Bane, Deadshot and Black Mask. The graphics in this game are a step up from Arkham City and Batman has a new batsuit that looks more armoured. The combat remains the same with a few new gadgets such as the concussion detonator. The story is great, it starts with Black Mask putting a bounty of 50 million dollars on the death of Batman. Eight assassins take up the offer Bane, Deadshot, Firefly, Deathstroke, Shiva, copperhead, Electrocutioner and Killer Croc. I will not tell you more about the story for spoiler reasons but I can reveal that there is a massive twist. There are many bossfights and I must say they were all very good and polished compared to the Arkham City ones that were stun, beatdown, stun beatdown, stun beatdown, knockout. The one I enjoyed most was the copperhead bossfight when she drugged you and she made you see lots of her and you have to beat all the clones to harm the actual copperhead. This was reminiscent of the arkham asylum scarecrow fear gas hallucinations. There was a few bugs and glithches the first time I played through, one made me not able to complete the game, but these have been generally fixed with patches so it should be fine play right now. The multiplayer is a new addition to the series which I did not have very high hopes for but it surprised me and I found I loved it. There are 3 teams 2v3v3 You are either Batman or Robin on one side and the other 2 teams are Joker's goons or Bane's goons. As batman or Robin you fly around, sorry glide around taking out thugs stealthily because only a few bullets can kill you, while you do this a meter is filling up for every takedown and if this meter is full then Batman and Robin win however this is very hard to do although it is fun silent takedowning (is that a word?) real people for once, not that I'd do it in real life(I've tried it didn't work but I got a sharp slap from one of my brothers). The Gang's job is to capture posts and kill off the other team's reinforcement counter. If one of the gang's are killed off then the other gang wins.Once per game one person in the gang's will have a chance to play as Bane or The Joker which is also an enjoyable experience. Overall Batman Arkham Origins is very good. The game felt new at the beginning but then it just felt like a bigger Arkham city until you meet The Joker then it feels like a unique game again. WB Montreal has done enough taking over Rocksteady for this game to make it an enjoyable experience but some of the game just felt like the same S**t put into a new title but thankfully there was enough variation to make this game feel like it's own game although it is not revolutionary. If you liked the last 2 games you will love this game because it is more of what you love and then some. Thanks for reading and remember "your batman". Expand

The new detective ability was cool but rarely used, and the graphics were nice that is about the total of the good things about this game. Expand

That at least was my plan, until a couple of bugs appeared that made it impossible to continue playing. But by now I've finished it thankfully they quickly came up with patches for the PC version and storywise it was a great game. Unfortunately the story couldn't unfold it's entre potential because the game-play just straight away sucked. Batman no longer moves as fluidly, which is especially annoying when having to deal with larger groups of enemies. The freeflow everyone loved in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City has become no more than a painful itch between your buttcheeks. And do I even have to mention the Electrocutioner?
This game held so many great possibilities, but it's rather poorly made, and I kinda regret having paid 45€ for it. Anyways, playing it was great fun, the side-missions are fantastic and there's a lot about it fans of the franchise will love.

Game by itself looks pretty good, but fighting is boring and story is terrible. This game isn´t so bad. But this game isn´t good either. It´s 50% done and 50% fu××ed up. Starts great... continues horribly wrong... ends not so bad. But anyway I won´t recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yeah, it was never going to be Arkham City and break any of the records that it set, but it was definitely a good try to continue the series. When I first got this game (on xbox) I played it until I had about ten-fifteen hours of gameplay total. However, I was then hit by a bug that caused the game to crash and corrupt my data, meaning I had to start again. As you can imagine, this was very, very frustrating, and enough for me to lower the score from 8 to 7. Aside from that, I encountered no other bugs and everything ran smoothly.
As for the story; I was very impressed with it, and I feel that it will go down as one of the most underrated stories of all time. However, I'm not talking about a lot of the Batman side of it (even though he's obviously the main character). I am talking about the small section where you play as joker and experience things from Joker's point of view. Visually, this was very impressive, and Troy Baker excellent voiceover really made me feel as if I was getting into the core of who Joker is.
The mechanic remained the same- I'm sure the newbie WB studios used an ethos of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' with the combat. That said, I felt that the combat was lacking some of the snappy responsiveness that it had in City, to the point where I had to press counter BEFORE the counter marker came up, risking losing my combo. Detective mode has been redone, and it was impressive. The first few times round. After a lot of case files, the whole 'rewind, fast forward' thing became really tedious.
To round it off; This is a good game. Still one of the best batman games out there. Probably superior to Asylum, but nowhere near the perfection of City.

The best game in the Arkham series, mostly because of the better open world elements.

Deadshot for example: it takes 5-10 minutes taking out his allies and bringing him down to 10%, then he becomes invincible, runs to the hostage and shoots him. Players shouldn't have to waste their time failing a mission to learn what to do. Yet again the biggest flaw in an otherwise great game.

One year after release, I didn't discover many bugs. The game crashed on me once in 20 hours and there were a few very minor issues that are easy to ignore. It's disappointing that the PC version has such a bad map that can't be controlled with the mouse, though.

Just Finished and it was a great game! Graphics are amazing, the fighting is solid, and the story line is interesting, (i personally do not like prequels). A few problems it has are, the fire animations, a few strange cape glitches, and a few fighting animations that get glitched up. Overall its a must play for any PC gamer!

I encountered two game breaking bugs on my play through (with google searches revealing there might even be more) in which I had to manually change parts of the game files in order to progress, or in one case retrieve an older version of the save file so I wouldn't have to start again from scratch (a process which lost me roughly 9 hours of game play). I also dealt with a myriad of minor bugs, including being unable to interrogate thugs and therefore being unable to complete certain side missions.

I give this game a generous 4/10 because it was really enjoyable, when it worked. However, it seems unacceptable to me to release a game that is so far from finished.

well, Batman Arkham city for PC, has very pretty graphics, though the story does not have as much depth as that of its predecessor (the best of the trilogy, in my opinion). Enemies (outside Joker and Bane) are weak participation and contains little charisma.O game is good for fans and those who enjoyed the batman arkham trilogy up because there are few changes. The innovation is the multiplayer.

When I first saw that Hamil and Conroy weren't going to be in the game, I felt that Batman and the Joker would just feel different (Their voices are pretty iconic). I was pleasantly surprised when the new voice actors absolutely nailed their parts. The game play is very similar to the other Arkham games, which is by no means a bad thing. I did feel that the story got a little weird after the first encounter with the Joker. It felt like the game was building to that moment, and it kind of felt like a climax. The Multiple people Batman resuscitates with his glove? Bane learning Batman's identity and then forgetting? If it weren't for the fact that the game went a bit beyond it's climax and then proceeded to get weird, I'd give it a 10. Oh and the controls for the Mad Hatter level... as short as that might have been, that was awful. Expand

It all comes down to the price for me. I paid less than $10.00 through steam summer sale, and at that price I'd actually give this game an 8/10. However, it launched with a price tag of $60.00 and is still $30.00 after the summer sale was over. At those prices the game isn't worth the money.

Cons: REALLY choppy. This game had many glitches, and didn't feel "new" in the slightest bit. If you are a big fan of Arkham City this might be your type of game. It feels very similar, and feels like it has a lot of copy and pasting from the new developers.

Pros: The story line. It was surprisingly entertaining, it had a few good twists, and kept me wanting to continue the main story line. Some of the side plots were also some what interesting. It did a good job with keeping in sync with the Rocksteady "feel," and definitely makes me want to see the third Rocksteady Batman installment even more.

First thing I want to say, is this is not a bad game. If you've played the previous two entries in this series (Asylum, City) and enjoyed the combat, there is plenty to be enjoyed here. The free-flow mechanics are as tight as ever, and there's even a few new enemy types to be thrown in.

I really enjoyed Arkham Origins, it has probably the most fun story out of the Arkham games, nevertheless in the grand scheme of things it is just more of the same. It's a bit clunky and the gameplay is pretty derivative and redundant after a while. It's still a fun game, but it lacks the innovation promised by the new development team, which in turn makes it a sort of unremarkable game.

The game's story perfectly captures the relationship dynamic between Batman and the Joker. The gameplay is fun and additional gadgets keep the puzzles and combat interesting, although at one point for me it started to become a bit overwhelming, but I guess the main problem in my case was that I had big breaks between plays.

A lot of costumes, but all under lock and key, or wydechowy or make crazy terms, by type, play the game on the mobile to open the suit, it is a pity the work of those who worked on the costume design. I ran the whole game in default. I liked how after a battle, it looks all scratched up, the cloak of holes that looked cool. Pumping dull, interesting or new combos no, all pumped from the previous parts, I repeat that the combat system is worse in terms of entertainment. As for the plot and missions, there are also a lot of flaws, everything happens in confined spaces, in locations that we have already visited (I understand that this part of the prequel), but this does not justify Exactly the repetition of locations. The missions themselves are also a little diverse, dull stealth, with bagovannymi blanks that teleport or point blank do not hear and do not see, well, the battle with the bosses, the very first fight is the longest and stupid, just zaklikivanie, and even in a few phases, you win, and in the Katz scene show completely different, the graphon is worse than in the past (beautiful City), flights have become impossible, fog, soap, short hook, towers, there are no it was spectacular and felt the scale, here it does not smell. Amazing for this part of the lack of implementation of side effects and puzzles and all the other collection, on the one hand finally, but on the other, as it is empty. The only plus is the story, the formation of the characters, it was interesting to watch them.

Arkham Origins is a great proposal, that if it had been more pampered it would have been even better.

*STORY*: During a mission that seems to be routine, Batman interrogates Killer Croc and obtains valuable but worrying information from him. It has put a price on the head of the bat, specifically 50 million dollars, and such a succulent figure has aroused the interest of some of the most dangerous villains.

Arkham Origins may have problems, but the script is not one of them.
Superior to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Arkham Origins offers an exciting story with good plot twists.

*GAMEPLAY*: Origins endures the type well, but some animations badly connected to each other and failures subtract score.

*GRAPHICS*: Origins is visually superior to the previous two, but there is no noticeable improvement over Arkham City, which ages better and was graphically impressive in its year of departure, which Origins does not.

*SOUND*: Origins also offers the best soundtrack of the seventh generation Batman Arkham, with a perfect main theme, which captures the essence of Nolan's Batman.

*INNOVATION*: Arkham Origins is the most continuous of all, and it shows, he does a disservice. The effort to get round the script and the sound is appreciated, but the gameplay here feels heavier and more boring due to its null news.

    A+
Does not add anything new to the series as game-play.
Story is predictable but its a prequel. Does not change Rocksteady's formula and plays safe , has its moments tho.
Recommended for fans of the series and Batman.

Even taking into account the parameters of the games in 2018 this 2013 game is simply fantastic.

The game have a mad, chaotic and dark story, full of villains and with interesting side quests. The gameplay is intense and diverse. You have a lot of fighting to do and each fight seems more challenging and rewarding them the previous one. And in between fighting there are moments where a direct approach most be avoided and you need to be stealthy and use your brain to stay alive, something that could be even more challenging and rewarding them the fight itself.
You have a lot of side quests to do, and things to collect and some of them are really challanging to get. Basically this game uses the same formula that worked so awesomely on Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City introducing us to the history of Batman and his allies (not going to spoiler anything for you guys).

The game mechanic are intuitive, and the progress is rewarding. Each level you unlock more fighting moves or more gadgets to improve the possibility of success.

Visually the game his very good for a 2013 standards. Enemy models are diversified and well constructed, in a fight it is frequent to appear a diverse number of models of enemies. But where the game graphics really shine are in the "bosses". Joker its the most impressive one, the facial details and animations are superb.

My only complain was optimization, despite never have issues on the previous ones and my computer is up to date to the 2018 standards I get a few crashes and frame rate issues. I feel the game is not so optimized like the previous ones since I did not have problems to play them.

Overall the game is fantastic, you can easily spend more them 25 hours to explore all the quests and side quests available, to get an idea, I focus on the story only and I only complete 25% of it. Fully recommend it, like all the other games of Batman series.

With the limited time the team at WB Montreal and the severe limitations they had while making the game, it's amazing the game we got came out this good. The map feels emptier this time around and lacks a sense of style, since everything is covered in snow. And the side-quests are a bit weaker this time around and some of them feel "samey". It's a good game but better not pay full price, since there are still some bugs in the PC release. Expand

This game in 2019 is perfect! I played twelve hours in this game and I wasn't bored at all. I liked it more than the previous two because it had it all! The bosses were great and their battles were very good. Also his gameplay is as we know it, very good and fast with all the gadgets of course. Felt like a much better story than the previous two games, even if it's a prequel and has logic gaps like Batman having cooler gear in this adventure than others that would come later in the timeline. It's also the same city from the previous game, but the action and fun here is top notch, on par with previous games, just not different enough from the previous games.

Arkham Origins its not a bad game. Its surely better than Arkham Asylum but its not like Arkham City. I get bored and i hate so much prequels. But this game receives too hate for nothing. I enjoy this game but compare to the predecessor AC, AO its just a good game and nothing special

A fine enough time to wander around and be batman. The plot and missions didn't grab me but the open world gameplay was satisfying enough.

"You don't want to be the guys who messed up and ran into the ground one of the absolute, top-rated franchises of all time. You don't want that at the top of your CV. 'Yeah, I'm the guy who turned a 96 into a 60, that's my claim to fame,’ said Arkham Origins’ producer Ben Matts a couple of days before the game’s release. Turns out, they did exactly that.

There's definitely some re-tread going on with Batman: Arkham Origins, but the combat, the relatively good story (B-list villain aside), the powerful feeling of being Batman in video game form has only muted my enthusiasm for the franchise by the smallest of margins.

You can't go wrong with sticking to Rocksteady's Bat-formula, however it is starting to feel a little played out. [December 2013, p.93]
