This game is the best game I have ever played.

The game is absolutely beautiful. All the environments are hand painted and this, at least in my opinion, should become more widely used. However, painted pictures means less free movement of terrain and some enemies, who only grow and shrink to show action.
The soundtrack is both daring and ingenious. A banjo and an electric guitar have never gone so well together.
The gameplay is absolutely brilliant. even though some may say it is too easy, Bastion allows you to scale its difficulty in certain aspects at one time, making it easy to find a challenge that isn't impossible.

To conclude: this game is for people who enjoy games as a media; a way to tell a story and entertain, not as mindless violence. This is a game to appreciate like art. In my book, this is a masterpiece.

There's a lot of people saying they can't understand why it has so many good reviews. The answer is simple, they can't follow a story even if it's spoon-fed to them.

The story line is UNFORGETTABLE. I made a Metacritic account just to write a review for this game. It has a GREAT VARIETY of weapons and secret skills that you can use. Each weapon has 5 upgrades for itself and each upgrade tier has 2 options to choose from so the options are more than enough to keep you entertained. The soundtracks for this game is also absolutely breath taking. I've downloaded them all and like to chill and listen to them sometimes.

The absolute BEST THING about this game is the ending. You will LOVE IT; I guarantee it. I can't express enough how much this game simply blew me away with the ending. I almost broke a tear. It was a great accomplishment to have finished this game and an honor. I got this game for around $5 or so when it was on discount a while ago. I'm absolutely shocked how a game this amazing can cost that much. I would honestly pay a lot more for it.

Buy it. You will not regret.

The narrator is an extremely interesting mechanic in a game and provides a greater depth with the story behind Bastion. The story is deep and develops itself perfectly as the player progresses. The combat system is very simple to grasp and play without difficulty. The weapons give a good deal of diversity for any type of player. While combat can get repetitive sometimes, the story telling beautiful scenery make up for it.

In terms of difficulty, the normal game is quite easy without the in game shrines. These shrines resemble skulls in the Halo franchise, making the game more challenging in exchange for more exp. With all 10 shrines active, the difficulty of the game is suitable for the more hardcore gamers. Overall, this game is an incredible buy if it goes on seam sales. Even without a sale, the price is worth the material. For a 5-15 dollar indie game, you get your money's worth. Bastion will keep you busy for a strong 10-20 hours at the least. Again, this game isn't a big AAA game, so don't expect it to conform to the norm.

A great short game with amazing music and artwork. I enjoyed the narrator who tells your story as you play. There are a decent amount of weapons that can all be customized to your individual play style. You also have the ability to adjust the difficulty in a variety of ways which is interesting. It's basically a hack and slash game, but it's really really well done. Enjoy!

If you got the game on sale through Steam, you won't be disappointed with the dollars-per-hour ratio. I'll put it this way, could you listen to an audiobook about a game while playing a game. If that seems even vaguely interesting you might like it, but if that sounds annoying then maybe you should pass as the narrator is always there.
The gameplay for me is a bit of a miss, but many people like it. It blends a top down rpg with some hack and slash elements. For me, it got a bit bland as I'm not a particular fan of such games(but the narrator kept me going) but for some it, and the great customization can make the game fun even if they dislike the narrator.
Again the visuals in the game. Very pretty. That's about all I can say, as that is all I could think.
The soundtrack is lovely and I think really help the narration flow.
The story while may seem rather convoluted at first, can be rather intriguing if you listen to the narrator enough, and do all the bonus missions.
I'm not going to spoil anything, but the ending bit is rather emotional, well, for a game of this caliber at least.
In the end, I really think that the narrator is the deciding factor in many peoples enjoyment of the game. So if you would like it, then definitely play it. Heck, if the gameplay sounds interesting enough, give it a go if it's on sale.

The narrator is simply great. His tone of voice changes very little through out the game yet he is still able to convey emotions more effectively than any other narrator. Bastion can really draw you into its world if you allow it too. Playing through I let the game bring me into its world and I had a much better experience because of it. While I WON'T spoil the ending I will say you have to make a choice at the very end. Before making the choice I became immersed in the story and placed myself in the protagonist place. Then I asked myself "what would I do if I where is this situation?" Doing this made the final choice much harder to make and my decision had more meaning to me when I finally made it. It was not an easy choice for me. Some people may have no issues making a decision but I truly did struggle with choices. After making my choice and going through the credits I immediately had to play through the last mission again to see the other ending. There are no good or bad ending or moral choice system, just two very different endings. Bastion is defiantly worth checking out or at the very least giving a chance. The narrator's voice-overs and explanations for things are flawless and quirky, and make you want to hear more. The gameplay is great fun the combat, starting simple, becomes increasingly fast-paced and skill-based, especially when all idols are enabled for full difficulty. As you progress through the mysterious-yet-lore-heavy storyline, more weapons are unlocked, allowing you to play using different styles. You can eventually customize a "build" (a weapon loadout and some bonuses, called spirits). And the gameplay doesn't get old many games turn into grinding for levels, but Bastion encourages to play just to play. I am playing through the main storyline for the third time now, having already beaten it once in its regular story and difficulty, and another time in New Game with all idols activated. Replay-ability is very high, and I still have not grown bored of it.

Despite being such a great game, Bastion does suffer from some issues. Occasionally you can get stuck on a floating platform out in the middle of the air, and dropping off only drops you back ONTO the platform, which falls again seconds later. This last only happened to me on my 3rd time through the game, however. Other than this, I ran into very few glitches and am still having fun the story-line never gets old, and the world of Bastion is absorbing. Overall, the game is great-if only there was more story to play through! But for now, I suppose I'll have to settle for replaying this one.

"The kid tries to make a joke. This will be the saddest moment of his life"
"The kid plays a video game"
"The kid still plays a video game"
"The kid, forgetting why he came into this room, stares out a window for a while so those around don't realise he's a dumbass"
"Christ, the kid is still playing a video game"
"The kid just pretends for a while that his life is interesting enough to narrate. The moral of this story is - don't be this kid"
And other such epic tales from the sagas of my life.
But besides the legendary voice acting of Oh-Wait-That's-Not-Ron Perlman, you may notice that this game is an isometric hack and slash. You might have noticed that. I don't know. Depends if you have eyes or not.
It's a genuinely fun one too. The only real complaints to make about any aspects of it are:
    A) The combat can be a little loose and undefined, with multiple enemies with very varied attack patterns just sort of shoved into a small area
    2) Despite having a decent number of varied enemies, you'll find yourself in the same situations whether it be nothing but the same gas enemies at the beginning, the same plant enemies in the middle and the same ninja enemies at the end in the same combinations
Both these problems somewhat solve themselves though, which is incredible. While the same combo of enemies gets old faster than Benjamin Button, the game has a short and sweet runtime, and the situations surrounding that combat can often change. Like scrolling sections, ship sections and more. And for the loose combat, the game is fairly generous with health drops and interesting weapons and abilities that means most players shouldn't have too much trouble with this game during a standard playthrough. There are also options for a harder experience that is balanced out with extra rewards, which is nice.
And for once I can safely say that that's all I have to complain about. This worries me. I am making a career out of complaining. F%ck you, Bastion. F*ck you.
I bloody hate it when games are well thought out.
Fine then, what else is there to praise?
The music is goddamn beautiful. There aren't many tracks, but the few that are there definitely carry this fairly short experience. I can't even make a joke about them, because I genuinely find them that nice. I suppose I could work one of my usual self-deprecating jokes into it somehow...
This music is better than I am.
    There you go. Makes sense...
The art style is also quite beautiful. Sh*t. That's not good for me, either. Umm, well I suppose it could make more use of colour. But that goes for anything. Always love more colour. This game gravitates a lot to greens and whites and blues. Would have been nice to see more red balance things out somewhere.
    There you go...
    Take that, Bastion...
    I give up.
The game is too well rounded. Even the story, while nothing that breaks boundaries still does more than most games. Meaning that this game follows a good, solid structure to tell it's story the same way a film would. It has a clear inciting incident, increasing tension, a middle point which reframes it and serves as a small loss meant to further motivate and develop, before escalating to a climax and a thoughtful resolution. This is the flow of story, and even games that try to tell one forget to hit on all these important plot points. Also, despite having a narrator, there are many moments where the game uses its nice art to show rather than tell certain plot points. And the story has greater themes of war, hatred and regret.
    All this to say...
    Cool story, bro.
I keep mentioning that the game is short, and that this fact is to its benefit. There's little chance of feeling cheated with this runtime. This game is nice and self-contained. You may even find it could be a couple of levels shorter when the tedium sets in towards the end after completing fetch quest after fetch quest.
Wait, did I just find another complaint?
    Hells yea!
On the other hand, the individuals levels are small, focused experiences that nicely break up and pace the game so the fetching doesn't become too daunting.
    Oh, f#ck me.
Can I just find one more complaint, please?
If the gameplay is fun and varies just enough to not annoy, the music is so melodious it could send even the most aggro baby to sleep, the art style isn't perfect but satisfies regardless, the story isn't ground-breaking yet very grounded in appropriate formula, and the game's length and pacing are like porridge that's just right, then what?
    Wait
    I've got it!
Everything is good, but not revolutionary!
Ha Ha, got you now, Bastion. How dare you be a good example of the foundational skills of video game design, and not also break the wheel!
    Hold on a second
    Ahhh...
    crap...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I't a Azimuth platform game, the plot is been tell by a Narrator with a deep dark voice, the game is not that long, I finished it at 8 hours, but you can do it for less, or a lot more, if you really enjoined it.
The art of the game is beautiful, 2d art that is like Anime, but not quite, the levels are super hard, but there is a god mode to this game, thats what I did, that you cannot die in the game.

for a game from 2011, it looks still very good, and I was happy to play it in 2020.

This is a guideline for how to properly review games. Many reviewers like to get a “feel” for a game, and arbitrarily give a game a score that they believe it deserves. This results in wildly different scores between different reviewers, and vastly different scores between similar games. This guideline addresses these problems and scores games fairly and consistently. This guideline also gives scores that are usually similar to the metacritic score.

The review score is based out of 10 points. There are no “half” or 0.5 increments. It is impossible to have a score above 10 or below 0. The review score will change as the game gets new dlc, drops in price, or if more secrets are found through the game increasing its appeal.

The scoring is split into 6 sections. The first five sections can add a possible 2 points to the final score. The first 5 sections are Single Player/Multi Player, Gameplay, Visuals/Story, Accessibility/Longevity, and Pricing.

Notice that 3 of these sections have two parts. These particular sections will be scored based on the stronger part of the game of the two. For example, if a game has a lousy single player campaign, but an excellent multiplayer component, that section will be based solely on the multiplayer as if the single player did not exist. This allows games to be based on their own merits, as many unnecessary features are shoehorned into video games by publishers to reach a “feature quota”. Games that excel in both areas of a section don’t receive should be noted in the written review, but cannot increase the score past 2 in that section. However, it can be taken into account in the final section

The final section can add 1, add 0, or subtract 1 to the final score. This final section is the “wildcard” section. This section is for how the reviewer “feels” about the game, but limits this only to this section, rather than the entire 10 point review. This section can include any positive or negative point that was not covered in the previous 5 sections.

Some of the challenges for weapons get a bit old and I found myself using the same set of weapons over and over where I would like to see more diversity encouraged (Machete ftw imo). And while it pretends to be flexible in what you do and where you go by bringing up a map, the game is on rails in every sense BECAUSE it is a book/story.

So, I liked the story so I like the game. And it is Fantastically art styled and directed. really really gorgeous. Throw in a (now classic) narrator and you have a really great game.

After only playing the game for 1 hour I wanted to pay him and the developers twice the full price of the game each. My friend for introducing me to the game, and the developers for making the game. Now, on to why I love this game.

Okay, I will admit Im not too critical of games... Id give E.T. For the Atari 2600 a 2/10... So, yea.

So, the Visuals. Need I say anything? This is one of the few games that can make a "cartoony" look work. And for me, this is the only game that made the "cartoony" look, well, look amazing!

Story, well, I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll explain the beginning. You're introduced simply as a Kid, and remain without a name through the entire story. You wake up and walk outside. Almost everything is gone, bit as you walk, the world assembles itself ahead of you. The Narrator tells you that this is the result of "The Calamity." I love the idea of making everything vague, and many will ask why. I say because it makes you explore to learn more. Throughout the game you can find Trinkets from before the Calamity and the game will explain to you what they are. And occasionally you will find special Trinkets that will make you fall asleep (for example a huge Smoke Pipe or Books... Or a Beanbag. I love the humor of this) and will send you into a place where you battle waves of enemies. Every time you defeat a wave of enemies, a piece of a character's past (or what a letter of the alphabet stands for in the universe in Bastion, for example "B is for Bastion, the *blah blah blah*) Each place corresponds to a certain main character, minus you. And the Narrator (who you meet after the first level, who is replaced instead by the alphabet). I love how the game doesn't just give the story to you and instead makes you work for it. It makes you feel more inclined to care about what it is telling you while still making you have fun and having a challenge.

Okay then, the Gameplay. Many criticize this game for being a "generic action hack-and-slash game" when it in no way at all is. There is so much variety in each weapon, your default weapon being a Hammer that can deal massive damage, and the last weapon in the game being a mobile cannon that shoots large, slow moving projectiles that can deal a HUGE amount of damage. You also can upgrade items with items that correspond with each weapon, and it grants you a tree of upgrades for each weapon. For example, the cannon (The Doom Cannon) can be upgraded to have Exploding Shots, Shoot Faster, Homing Shots, and more! Along with this, each weapon can be "charged" and released at just the right moment to deal a lot more damage, shoot multiple projectiles, and more! And along with THAT is a system of special abilities. Some, such as... Uh... I forget its name, but it lets you throw a Canister that spawns in a Turret from Portal, doesn't require a specific weapon. And others, such as... Uh... I forget the ability names, sorry! But it lets you shoot a Barrage of Shots from the Doom Cannon in rapid succession, and since it shoots from the Doom Cannon, requires one of the two (yea, you can choose what weapons you can have and have two at a time) weapons you have with you to be the Doom Cannon. Also, each weapon (and the shield) has a trial course with it and let you get new things for the weapon. (For example, top prize being a new ability, and another prize being an item to upgrade it with.) Also, there are Brews you can bring with you to grant you special abilities, for example... The... Man I'm horrible with remembering these names... The... (Made up name, not ability) Heart Brandy that grants you the ability to carry 2 more than the original 3 health potions, allowing for a total of 5, and also the potions are instantly used if you would die from an attack. Finally, there is the idol system. What it does is, when you activate and idol, the game is harder, but you get more experience. For example... One idol could double the damage enemies deal but grant you 50% more experience (well, not that much). There is a grand total of 10 idols. Anyone who thinks the game is too easy, try doing the challenge levels I talked about in the last section with all 10 idols on.

Finally, the music. Absolutely stunning, must I say more? Well, I will anyway. The music is so fitting for any point in the game. You're in an intense boss fight? This game has the music for it. You are at the credits and are tearing up? This game has the perfect music for that. My favorite three tracks would be #3: Build that Wall (Zia's Theme) #2: Mother, I'm Here (Zulf's Theme), and #1: Setting Sail, Coming Home (Credits Music). Heck, I would pay the full price of the game for just those three songs from the soundtrack. The Narrator is not annoying in any way and is the cherry on top to this game.

About plot, lore or anything related to, you're not playing this game for that. The plot is cryptic (not as much as Transistor's one, but still you'll have a lot of imagination going through) and quite short but still interesting, both moving and melancholic with a somewhat good ending.

This game is good, there's no reason not to buy and play this game. Supergiant Collection STRONGLY recommended, because of Transistor and the soundtracks.

It is an Indie, Diablo-like Hack and Slay game which should be very appealing to a lot of gamers out there. But this alone apparently doesn't make a good game, what makes this game so fascinating is on one hand the magnificent and captivating music from their music producer Darren Korb and on the other hand the exclusive narrative style of Bastion. A voice is always following every step the gamer takes while unfolding the story behind the Bastion. This is what makes Bastion so unique and different to other games and should be on every gamers 'must-play' list, which sadly never going to happen since the majority of the gamers are graphics driven, blood seeking blockheads.

This part is where my own opinion starts which I always try to avoid in ratings, so feel free to stop reading right here. Well I can't play Diablo-like Hack and Slay games since they all are the same for me and feel very repetitive and besides boring. This is why I couldnt gave it a good rating, but still doesn't change a full purchase recommendation from me.

Bastion is a 2D RPG game with a few "platformer" elements. You basically start each mission from a "home-place" called "Bastion" (of course) and move across the many lands through a hub. You basically start each mission from a "home-place" called "Bastion" (of course) and move across the many lands through a hub. It tells the story of a world in ruin after a cataclysm that scattered the whole civilization - not to mention the fauna populating the world - leaving a very few survivors the task to "re-build" the world itself. I'm not going into any details as I would spoil the story but the hero (The Kid) will meet some characters with whom he may have some kind of interaction; the story is told with a mix of short in-game sequences and a narrator, which is kinda a mentor, guide to The Kid.

The game itself is well crafted, with each shard having its unique environment and enemies; the platforming aspects which I mentioned before are of a minimal impact (and that's a good thing, IMO) and they would have you jumping from a platform to another to reach a new area or to obtain some items. As I've already written the game is 2D and you move your character direct-controlling it (WASD) and using the mouse to attack; a primary and secondary attack and a special move are available, the latter requiring some usables.

The Bastion, as a fortress which it is, indeed, can and must be upgraded to obtain new weapons and modify them; to build new structures which can provide you bonus and malus (soon explained); acquire materials to enhance weapons and gain passives. The RPG elements are quite unique and give you a very good amount of customization. For each new level gained you can choose a new passive to use and aid you through the many encounters. Every time a new weapon is found, an area will become accessible to train with that weapon and get more items/resources/xp. Shortly before I introduced a structure that can give you bonuses.. well, how that works? Its concept, and rather surprisingly, its realization, kicks some asses as it not an arcade feat. where you just become more powerful. Nope. This building let you divine a god (amongst 10) with each one of them giving you a % of +xp and +resources.. but each shrine will eventually kick-in a malus, like stronger enemies, mobs regenerating health.. so it's rather game-changing. I want to point out that each and every passive/shrine/some other elements can be swappable throughout the game just by visiting the bastion.

The are no real dialogs neither cinematics (just a bunch of very short sequences); over the journey the player has given the choice only two times.. which I won't be explaining as they'd be major spoils. Original music, nice sound FXs, very good arts and polished graphic.

You play as The Kid, who wakes up suddenly as the world around him is ending. They call it the “Calamity”, which basically results in the ground around him falling apart. Under the Kid’s feet, blocks of land rise up to settle beneath him, which is the main way for getting around throughout the game. He sets off for the Bastion; a large homely mechanism floating in the sky, which was where everyone was to meet when the world ends.

    Lucky it was there!

You initially only find one old man there, Rucks. He slots himself in as the gruff narrator of the tale, speaking in metaphors and eloquence, detailing your actions at every turn, and providing the backstory as you go. The narrator is essentially the centrepiece to the story, which is what most of the praise for this game (mine included) aims at.

As you hop from area to area, you find more unique weapons. You can equip two at a time, which leads to an incredible amount of variety in your attacks (which Rucks comments on each time you leave the armoury). This is where much of the fun is; the gameplay itself. Each area, you can try a different combination of weapons, and not grow bored of it. Especially when you throw in a secret skill slot, which has limited uses, but opens up for even more variety.

The soundtrack is amazing, and sets the tone for each cut scene and level you come across. The world itself looks like an oil-painted artpiece, yet at each point you know what your objective is, and pick out what is harmless scenery, and what is potentially life threatening.

The story itself flows nicely, and even brings about a couple of choices in the final moments. These choices have real emotional weight, and what you choose will depend on the kind of person you are.

As an indie game enthusiast, this is one that must be in your Library.

What really stands out in this game is both great music and superb narration. The story at first seems a bit strange and it's hard to make out what's going on but once you reach the end it all starts to make sense and is in fact quite interesting.

The gameplay is an isometric a little bit like hack and slash but with much more emphasis on arcade action. You don't rely on the stats of your weapon but rather on your skill to doge, block and attack at the right time with the right time. Personally I didn't find the combat extremely exciting although I feel this might be a personal preference and a lot of people might love it. This is the reason why I only went after the story missions and completely avoided any additional challenges. In the end wanted to finish the game for the story, not the gameplay.

The game lets you level your character but levelling up does not increase your stats - rather it unlocks a space where you can hold a bottle of sorts which boosts your stats in one way or another - it's an interesting approach to levelling. The weapons you will have you find along your journey. They're interestingly designed although I found out that at any given time I'm sticking with the choices made early on and not really going for the newer weapons which feel weak. You can level them up - but still - once you find your favourites there is no real reason to change them.

Overall a good 7/10 game - not spectacular but a solid title - worth playing for the story for sure.

Bastion is a unique and creative action RPG with an engaging story and perhaps the best storyteller in gaming history.

Pros: - The narrator is incredible. This game wouldn't be half of what it is without him. Constantly cool, calm and collected, you hang on his every word. He doesn't just dish the story, but reacts to and comments on your actions - Fully fleshed out world. The story
Bastion is a unique and creative action RPG with an engaging story and perhaps the best storyteller in gaming history.

    Pros:
    - The narrator is incredible. This game wouldn't be half of what it is without him. Constantly cool, calm and collected, you hang on his every word. He doesn't just dish the story, but reacts to and comments on your actions
    - Fully fleshed out world. The story here is basically the story of this world, and it's well worth diving into
    - Excellent art style; the painted visuals of the isometric world are vivid and eye catching. The way the world floats and drops into place is smooth and lends a great deal to the world view.
    - Good variety of weapons, each one unique of the others
    - The difficulty system is ingenious. You choose what to make harder, with the reward of extra fragments (money) and experience. The shrines (difficulty settings) range from stronger enemy attacks to each enemy dropping bombs on death. I've never before manipulated difficulty in such a customizable way that really adds to the world view
    - The equippable spirits (passive skills) and weapon upgrades add even more layers of customization to the experience

    Cons:
    - Combat feels basic, with only one attack per equipped weapon and a special skill. Blocking and rolling add some depth, but not enough
    - The music doesn't strike home the way you want it to. In a title dripping with personality, it's a shame that the music didn't match up
    - The isometric 2D view can sometimes make finding your way difficult, leading to dropping off the maps edge accidentally
    - Blank slate characters; while the world is deep and imaginative, the characters are far less so. Outside the narrator, the characters have very little personality, and little to offer of interest

    Mixed:
    - While there were a variety of enemies, they often felt a bit samey. The designs would differ, but often your tactics wouldn't.
    - While one or two of the bosses were interesting, mostly they were just larger versions of other enemies that completely failed to leave an impact. Disappointing

Bastion is an ambitious title that is rife with deep customization to the style of play within a well realized world. The narrator spurns you toward the end of the game, desperate to learn all you can about the universe within. Rote characters and enemies do little to hold back the bursting personality of the game, and this one is well worth picking up and giving a go.

Completion: Finished game on normal difficulty. 1st place on all weapon trials.

    Pros:
    - The sound design is immaculate, with one of the best narrators in any video game. The soundtrack is also great throughout, with highlights being the two (technically three) vocal tracks.
    - The battle system is fast-paced, frantic, and most importantly, fun. There is a huge number of weapons, skills, upgrades, and items for a game of this size. All in all, Bastion has all the elements of a great ARPG.
    - The story is well-told and masterfully paced. This is all, of course, greatly facilitated by the magnificent narration.
    - The custom difficulty is a great feature that accommodates every type of player.
    - Stages are short and, for the most part, feel quite varied in terms of structure. This is bolstered by an enemy variety that is uncommonly vast for an indie game.
    - Supergiant Games debut with their signature, hand-drawn artstyle. It manages to impress even in its earliest incarnation and is one of the reasons why Bastion is so lauded and fondly remembered today.

    Cons:
    - Although it was nice to have so many weapons to play around with, the game doesn't give you enough time to really use or get used to many of them. This may feel like an odd complaint, especially since I appreciate having so many tools at my disposal, but I just feel that they could've been paced a bit better.
    - The art tends to be great, but does feature a few 3D parts that can seem out of place. Furthermore, due to the extravagance of the visuals, there are times where foreground and background are not clearly delineated, resulting in frustrating gameplay moments.
    - Bosses are mostly unimpressive.
    - Level ups feel far too few and take too long to feel like a significant part of the game. Furthermore, they are also not particularly significant in terms of increasing your character's power level. I wish they could've implemented this better, as it would've greatly improved the progression in this game.

    Final Word:
    - Bastion is the type of unabashed fun rare outside of Nintendo games and it is clear to see why. With its beautiful visuals, fluid combat, and impeccable sound design, Bastion proves itself to be firmly within in the elite of Indie titles.

This game is amazing. Fast combat and has one of the most beautifully drawn levels and graphics I have ever seen for a 2D game. Every boss fight is different and the level puzzles aren't difficult. There are multiple weapons that give variety in how you play. The story is a 7/10 and nothing too exciting but we came here for the combat and we are left satisfied.

I didn't know what to expect about Bastion and the game took me by surprise. Fresh, but simple gameplay, with original setting and cool graphic. Great idea with a narrator who comments your actions in humorous way. This game starts with the world unfold around you, with great visuals and a fantastic narration that follows along your journey. It also had a decent weapon selection that was complimented with some light upgrading, and I loves my weapon upgrading in games. While your traverse these well made dungeons you're accompanied by a great soundtrack that hits all the right notes. The whole time the game has a slight western theme and the music will keep a sombre tone at times and then kick in for battling at other times, fitting extremely well with the game. Whoever made the music for this game deserves a ton of praise.

The game can feel clunky at times especially with the strange controls, at least for me, I'm not that used to these click in the direction you want games and often found myself swinging in the wrong direction. Also the skill level felt low for your progression, I always has the feeling like I was ahead of my enemy in terms of strength and the game felt a bit easy for how short it was.

The verdict though being the game is great and deserves a spot in everyone's library and will easily invite everyone in for a great time, be it with the music or game-play, the game is just great.
