A very clever puzzle game that manages to find new ways to strain your brain with each and every level.

If you don't mind getting stumped, then definitely give this game a try. I still can't believe I finally beat "Heist." That level blows my mind. I thought I was going crazy, but what I did actually worked after a solid half hour.

Probably my favourite puzzle game of all times.
The levels are of the right difficulty: the first are challenging but overall easy, but the more you progress in the game the more the levels become hard. Some levels will for sure keep you in front of the monitor for very long.
The music is awesome as well.

For something as complex as Baba Is You, it surprisingly feels fundamental in the same way as the aforementioned games are. The aesthetics of Baba are infinitely easier to discuss than the mechanics. The music is soft, sweet, and never grating over the countless hours you'll spend on certain puzzles. The art direction is cute and conveys all necessary information quite vividly. And since the graphical demands are so low (and thankfully, not in that recent nostalgia-bait indie-pixel trend that's so widespread now), this game runs well on even the most outdated toasters. As for the mechanics, Baba drip-feeds them to you steadily, so as to prevent unnecessary confusion. It really is quite amazing how the difficulty grows incrementally but logically, building on the skills you've previously learned. Of course, since the game is non-linear towards the end, some players might feel at a loss with certain mechanics brought in nearer to the end. For my part, I never felt like I was lacking anything to solve a puzzle — save for a few spare neurons. Trial-and-error is not the most accurate way to describe solving Baba's puzzles, since it implies something like the infinite monkey theorem. (Now, AI: The Somnium Files, despite how much people say otherwise, was a game of trial-and-error.) Rather, Baba has you experiment with truly mind-bending and hidden mechanics in order to solve certain levels. "I didn't know I could do *that!*" could be read as indignantly exasperated or else as flat-out amazed, depending on what kind of player you are. The least satisfying puzzles are those in which you have to kick off a huge causal chain, and can only be solved one way. Other, more interesting puzzles have multiple solutions, each more **** than the first. Though I've heard it said, I never had the urge to shout "aw c'mon, that's horse manure!" at any solution. Everything has a place and a reason why it's there. Expand

This game gives a beautiful feeling of solving problems that are sometimes looks almost like math problems.
Now I passed through more than half of levels and sometimes I think that some level is absolutely unsolvable. But, and this is very funny, in another morning I solve it in few minutes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Baba is you is a universal masterpiece.

You've probably understood the basic concept behind the game watching some videos by the time you read this review, but you need to know that this is far more than just "a good concept": the design of every single level is thoroughly thought and brilliant in its own way. The core mechanic of the game (creating rules by moving words around) is at the same time fun, creative and incredibly challenging at times. After the first few levels of introduction, I could never find any level where I could trick my way out . Whether you think of yourself as clever or an experienced gamer, I can assure you some of the puzzles are very tough; the most difficult of them took me up to three hours to figure.

And don't think that you'll get bored of it: level after level, world after world, new mechanics are added and the complexity goes even higher. And at some point where you'll think you've seen everything, the game will surprise you even more . And the best part is all of this is that the game is VERY long (of course depending on how fast you solve the levels). It took me nearly 89 hours to beat all the levels. I just want to emphasize how great of an achievement it is to have a game proposing such an consistent, high-quality level design and game design over nearly 90 hours. And that for 12,5 €.

The icing on the cake is the artistic design, simple but cute and fully supporting the constant humor of the game, with great soundtrack as well.

Baba is you is not "just an indie game". Baba is you is the game with the best game design I've played for quite a while, a game like none else. This is a lesson for the videogame industry: stop giving us your annual AAA generic third-person shooter with no scenario and no innovation in the gameplay. Give us games like Baba is you .

Only bad reviews are from people who thought they were good at puzzle games, but couldn't handle the Ego-check that they're not that smart. You'll feel like an idiot then a genius every level and that's the whole thrill !

This game is excellent, I'm about a hundred puzzles and maybe fifteen hours in and it's still really fresh. Other than one situation where I accidentally spoiled myself on a solution, I've been playing 100% blind.

It's a mind-bending take on sliding block puzzles, which I enjoy to start with. I haven't played The Witness yet (though I plan to sometime), but similarly to that the game

It's a mind-bending take on sliding block puzzles, which I enjoy to start with. I haven't played The Witness yet (though I plan to sometime), but similarly to that the game doesn't explain much to you about the world--except through what the rule blocks spell out for you, literally. These blocks are also pushable, of course, and have their own simple syntax you need to learn to redefine how things work. ("Baba Is You" is a good example of a working rule!)

Much of the game is figuring out these written and unwritten rules, which often means simultaneously relying on and dispelling your presumptions about how typical games of this type work. This is quite manageable though because the levels are usually super small. New mechanics are introduced regularly and old ones exploited cleverly.

I've been skipping puzzles I couldn't solve, to the point where recently there was a point where I couldn't unlock any more puzzles without solving one. But Baba Is You is one of those games where you get so familiarized with the rules that you can play it in your head, and it's fun to come back to a puzzle later after having thought of a solution mid-day.

tl;dr i'd recommend this game, it's a classic in the making. I'd give it a 20/10 but since metacritic only allows 10 as the highest score, I gave it a 10.

I really don't get the appeal. Sure, it's a creative game and it's fun. But that only lasts for about an hour, max two. After the first three worlds, the puzzles and their solutions become really far-fetched and I've found myself in a lot of situations where I came up with a solution that should have worked, but didn't.

Ultimately it's just a pretty average puzzle game that happens to

This game is getting a 10 before even completing it and I'll tell you why. The gameplay is incredibly original in a world of countless of puzzle games so that alone is just monumentally impressive. Not only that: it's also structured in terms of level-progression design in a way that both lets the user progress to the end but also on-choice stay to do further harder puzzles.

Its simplistic art tells yoou is not going to be another puzzle game. Just a few words and some objects. That´s all, the rest is up to you.

Super thought-provoking and mind-expanding puzzle game, with a wide difficulty range. I eventually beat all the levels - without assistance - which took a long time and felt very rewarding.
