Awkward Dimensions Redux (PC - Steam) - 2/10

Mirror's Edge. I have nothing against abstract games but Awkward Dimensions Redux just felt like a mashup of ideas with little to no point or theme except to be weird. Each level is basically finding the exit or using an item but others just felt like I had to sit there long enough for a timer to run out before I was transported to the next level. Each level is basically finding the exit or using an item but others just felt like I had to sit there long enough for a timer to run out before I was transported to the next level. There was no overarching theme except perhaps the fact that a couple levels seemed to deal with depression or heart break. The music was fantastic and was the one standout feature. The graphics were decent. Some levels went for more of a technical or realistic style while others were more out there using varied colours and themes. I think they were at their strongest when using a less realistic style because the game was never going to be a technically beautiful game, even for the year it was released, but the art style on the other levels was well done and looked distinct and unique. I found the movement janky and weird although it wasn’t terrible.

I played the game on Linux. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs. You can’t save mid level but you can skip levels and choose which one to play next. Alt-Tab didn’t work. There was one graphics setting and the resolution. The game is capped at 60 FPS but luckily stuck close to the maximum for me.

    Game Engine: Unity
    Graphics API: OpenGL
    Disk Space Used: 1.8 GB

    Settings Used: 2560*1440, Fantastic
    GPU Usage: 0-88 %
    VRAM Usage: 803-1432 MB
    CPU Usage: 3-10 %
    RAM Usage: 4.0-4.5 GB
    Frame Rate: 54-60 FPS

I can’t recommend Awkward Dimensions despite the price tag of free. It has a couple interesting ideas but overall just felt pointless and a waste of my time. I finished it in thirty one minutes.
