It is the most boring AC game, I ever played. I am trying to finish it since one year and each time I try, I don't want to play it again. P.S: I played all AC games. After I purchased this game, I started to play AC Origins, which I bought many years ago. I could finish that in one week, as like all other ac games

Another issue, they claim the game was made by a team of all religions, but i had some side quests which were simply mockery of christianity. Robbing abbeys for monetary gains is kind of ok for me in a viking game but the side quest about a monk north of middletun for example that's plain mockery. Well it seems to make quite a lie out of the disclaimer about different beliefs and genders. Sosite hui pidarasi. Expand

Rather disappointed. I really enjoyed Origins and Odyssey, so I expected more from Valhalla. Combat is just awful - constantly getting knocked down, and the controls are so sluggish. And some quests are just tedious. They really need to do more beta testing next time and be sure the game is actually fun to play.

It's another post-Syndicate Assassin's Creed, so bloated, tedious, and overlong. That's the new standard for the Assassin's Creed experience, and that in itself isn't a miserable thing, even if the games become closer to chore lists than actual enjoyable challenge. After Odyssey, I expected the repetitive action game with RPG elements to come back, but I wasn't expecting the horrendous bugs and random performance issues to still be present in the game well over a month after launch.

Visual bugs and minor gameplay ones I can handle, so long as they aren't debilitating. What starts to test my patience are the bugs where an NPC stops walking, preventing me from completing her quest, which is followed by a bug where I can't speak to anyone at Ravensthorpe. No amount of reloading past save files or progressing with the main story helped, so I'm stuck being unable to do much of anything at the main camp. Since I'm over twenty hours in, this really took me out of the entire experience.

Then there are the random performance drops. My laptop isn't exactly a top of the line, $5,000 beast that can run brand new games at 240 FPS in 4k resolution, but it's more than enough to handle Valhalla when the game is behaving. After fast traveling, I'd randomly drop to a max of 25 FPS, and that was when I was looking at a featureless area with no NPCs around. That would always require a full restart of the game, and when it can happen multiple times per play session, I started to think that maybe I don't even want to bother.

Another disappointment is how visually dull everything is. With ancient Greece, even if it wasn't 100% accurate to the time period, the development team could make these grand structures of shining white marble. I know you lose some of that with 9th century England, but the core of Assassin's Creed has always been exploring interesting historical areas using its freerunning system to scale magnificent architecture of the time. Mud huts and longhouses just aren't visually stimulating. When you do get the odd tower, they're all in some state of ruin and completely identical to the next tower.

The entire experience isn't all bad, though. The gameplay is enjoyable at its core, even if it doesn't evolve enough to justify the forty+ hours of runtime. It's still satisfying to chop everything in your path, and the skill tree system they implemented isn't entirely unwelcome. It's more for show, since there's so much overlap in each one, but the idea was cute enough to be worth a try. It's always a bit of a rush to blow your horn and start a raid, even if that diminishes over time.

Another positive in the game's favor is the slightly tighter story focus. It reminded me of Assassin's Creed II in that way, and the series could really use a return to a strong character like Ezio. Eivor isn't unlikeable really, but you're always going to sacrifice narrative focus when your game is full open world. Odyssey at least had an engaging enough protagonist AND a visually spectacular world, so Valhalla feels like a step back as an entire package.

As a whole, the game wasn't ready to be released. Even a month after release, the game still isn't ready. I've played Assassin's Creed games on launch before, and while buggy to an extent, I've never been walled off from significant chunks of those games because of the bugs. It'll probably be in a much better state by the end or January, but I'm really disappointed with this entry in the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is just my opinion. Your gameplay experience may be totally different.
    Contains spoilers!!!
I have played the game for 136 hours and have a 384 skill level.
The first 40 hours of gameplay were captivating and engrossing.
At 60 hours it became monotonous.
At 80 hours it was boring.
I didn’t waste time looting during the last two story arcs as I had already upgraded my gear to mythical.
When I had control of Basim (“I did it because of my family”) during the last Animus scene I just re-entered the Animus without interacting with any of the environment…I just wanted to end the game. We all know the “tree” has many stories to tell.
A lot of game resources could have been used to improve the core game if they omitted the immersion breaking Animus (current day) gameplay and data nodes.
Once you finish the “end game” you see a pop up stating something to the fact “you have more secrets to discover and more lands to explore.” My reply is I finished the game and regret buying the season pass. I probably won’t play any of the expansions or DLCs as it adds nothing to the end game nor do I have any incentive to replay the game.
Here are somethings I learned during my gameplay experience:
I used the raven only a dozen times. Totally useless in the game.
Most of your combat interactions will be melee so build around that.
Assassination is an afterthought in this game.
I upgraded the settlement to just below level 6…only to realize that the only buildings needed were the Hidden Ones Bureau for the Hidden Ones questlines and the cartographer. You spend very little time in your settlement anyway.
    • Stable not needed…available in most towns and cities.
    • Trader not needed…available in most towns and cities.
    • Seers hut not needed unless you want to do the side quests. You only get 10 skill points for completing both parts of the quest. You have to collect 30 “tears” for each part of the quest and you have a chance to kill a level 400 legendary animal. Entire side quests have no effect on the end game.
    • Fishing hut not needed unless you want to waste time on broken quests.
    • Hunting lodge not needed unless you want to waste time on broken quests.
    • Shipyard not needed unless you want to change the appearance of your longboat which you don’t spend that much time on. No other longboat upgrades available.
    • Tattoo shop not needed unless you want to constantly change the limited available tattoos and hair styles.
    • Barracks not needed unless you want to recruit other players Jomsvikings. Has no effect on monastery raids. Go into a monastery with Eivor, kill everyone and then use your horn to call your raiders as you need them to open up the doors and raid chests.
    • Museum not needed. Only gives you cosmetic items for your settlement.
    • Reda is worthless as you need a large amount of opals to buy his junk.
    • All other outbuildings not needed unless you want feast buffs. I only used the longhouse feast buff once as I didn’t see any real benefit of the buffs during gameplay.
Data nodes are useless. Just immersion breaking parkour puzzles that have nothing to do with the endgame. I did the first three data nodes and passed on the others.
Chasing flying books only to be rewarded with a random tattoo. I did three and passed on the rest of them.
The overabundance of “blocked” doors which have a chest with a miniscule amount of basic crafting materials and silver. Not worth the effort to solve the puzzles.
The berserker quest is useless. When you finish the quest you get to recruit the berserker and not the bear. The bear dies from old age at the end of the quest.
De-synchronized because I killed three civilians who happen to be in the middle of a quest/combat area.
The convoluted skill tree. Just a disaster. Granted you can respect at no cost, but it is a waste of time to respect from bear to raven to wolf as the scenario changes. It doesn’t make a difference near end game as you have the skill points for all three skill trees.
Yggdrasil story arc is boring and immersion breaking.
Most of the countryside is lifeless.
Would have been nice to have the ability to kill Basim by midgame and also the option to let Sigurd die in Fulke’s dungeon.
I won’t comment on the game breaking bugs as that is another topic in itself.
I have learned my lesson to not buy pre-order game bundles. I’ll just save my cash and wait awhile after a game is released to purchase it.

    - In-game store, that alone is a huge negative. Would the Metacritic allow me to give negative points then it would be a 10-. It contains stuff like "time savers." Like paying for something to enjoy exploration but then getting an offer to skip all of that?

Disappointment is not the word that is appropriate here!! Two years lead to nowhere, during these two years they simply sucked money out of people and it was not important for developers to make an interesting story, do not believe YOU ALREADY!!!! And as the money stopped coming, they kicked out a crumpled, disgusting finale that shows how much they don't give a **** about us

There are rarely moments where I regret buying a game I wanted.
2 cases : First being Forza Horizon 4, now this.
When it came out, I was pretty excited, expecting a back to the roots game where a viking goes to become an assassin and joins the brotherhood, like Black Flag did it with the pirate theme...and at the end, pure disappointment. First of all, at launch, it was a buggy mess.

First of all, at launch, it was a buggy mess. Plenty of times, I encountered game breaking bugs like not being able to open chests at raids because my stupid followers won`t help, instead just run around like morons.
Then, there is the disappearance of the E button to talk to important characters when you have to.
Repetitive moves are also something that is an eye sore.
The grind to get all the skills is beyond boring.
But out of all the things that bore the fck out of me, must be the annoying, everlasting parade of pledges.
Those things drag out across 70h of gameplay, to the point where I beg the game to stop.
Its not even doing different things at each pledge...No, its all the same s*it !
Travel across the map with no fast travel, speak to someone, do a task to kill someone, talk to them, start a battle and do it all over again for over 10 times... Not to mention, the story arc of each location is basically the same, like helping one character to become the leader... Why ?
The map is just terrible. The only location I did like was visiting London. And that is pretty much it.
Now. Assassin`s Creed should be AC, not Viking Creed. Going back to Black Flag.
There you play a pirate, who finds a new purpose in life and eventually joins the brotherhood.
In Valhalla, I truly hoped to see the moment where Eivor becomes an assassin and his story arc goes in that direction, like a lot of other characters in the series do : Ezio, Arno, Connor...
Seeing him get the hidden blade at the beginning for no reason than just "Here it is" was the icing on the bulls*it.
After beating Basim, is student Haytham does not say a freaking thing post ending ! Not a single word !
Tracking down every order member felt like a chore that I have not completed but wanted to since that was the only AC element in the entire game !
Also, one of my issues that made me shake my head in disbelief is the usage of mythology in this game.
Asgard, the DLC where you play as Odin... I mean, what the f*ck Ubisoft ??? IF you want to make a game about fantasy s*it, make a new IP, not ruin Assassin`s Creed !

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.
