So the game tells me to tackle him. Okay, although I could've just picked up one of the 100 other newspapers, but whatever, I oblige in the game's boring and already overused mechanic of "run after someone and tackle them". So I run after the guy, thinking I could catch him... but oh, no.no.no, tells me the game, you won't catch him until we allow you to catch him at this scripted pre-determined location. You ran ahead of him and cut him off? Really? Then we'll just disable the tackle button for a moment. We told you very clearly, you won't catch him unt..... "Desynchronized: The Target Died". Oops... it appears, dear player, that our game bugged out for a moment, and you'll have to do it all over again, even though, you did kind of catch the guy, if we would've allowed it.

So I restart 3 times because the mission's scripted sections involved some carriages going off the road and they kept killing the guy I was supposed to follow aroun... I mean catch. Then I finally arrive at the scripted event where I'm supposed to tackle the chap. It turns out that the guy stops on the train tracks for no reason at all, and a train is going to hit him in 10 seconds, and I'm supposed to tackle him out of the way. Even though he ran a goddamn mile perfectly fine before and could've easily walked, at a slow pace, out of the way of train on his own.

So after I tackle him I find out what this was all about. The guy had in his possession a caricature of Darwin as an ape.

    And then the game crashed.

F**k this game. Just f**k this game. And f**k Ubisoft. F**k everything and everyone involved in this game. Just.....

In short, Syndicate is mostly a poorer version of Unity in all respects: gameplay, story, characters (historical or otherwise), quality and personality of the open-world and its side activities all feel less well done and/or memorable than in Unity. Gameplay is repetitive and not very engaging. The only advantage is that it runs better than Unity and with fewer bugs.

    Detail:
You play as Jacob and Evie Frye, twin brothers in the Assassin Order that decide to go to Victorian London in 1868 - Jacob simply wants to kill every Templar and clear the city of the Blighters while Evie is more interested in finding the Piece of Eden and prevent the Templars from having it it. Supposedly Jacob is more combat thirsty and Evie more stealth oriented, but there's actually only 3 unique perks to each of them, and only Evie's camouflage perk (go invisible while standing for about 2 secs) is really noticeable. While you can do side activities with either of them, main story missions are locked to either Jacob or Evie. Also, I found it baffling that some Jacob missions' optional objectives involved stealth, while Evie could kill everyone with no penalty - so what's the point of making a character supposedly more combat focused, and another more stealth focus?

There's an overall feeling of "quantity over quality", superficiality, shallowness to the open-world and its characters, events and missions. There's a million collectibles lying about, London is huge, but it feels populated rather than "alive". Supposedly there's background to the Conquest Activities that involve minor characters with a description in the database, but their description is so short and doing said activities them feels so inconsequential that you don't really care. Also, you do one the Conquest Activities, you've seen them all, really, and there's dozens of them. The grapling hook looks cool, but you'll realize the real reason you use it is that you want to get about and get things done as fast as possible, since there's little story and value to be had from them, except money and XP. There's hardly any crossing between the missions and historical events and the cameo appearances of Darwin, Dickens, Marx, etc. are little more than that, their missions boil down to the same elements.

Gameplay is the same of Unity, except for the addition of the grappling hook and the removal of the ability to distract guards with objects you can pick up. In the combat department, I feel like it's even easier, even with the fact you have weaker melee weapons (no swords, just canes, knuckles, knives) and with the addition of enemies' ability to block, which you can simply use the "stun" button to counter it. I never felt like it was actually really helpful and "cool" to go stealth or non-lethal, mostly it was less hassle just to go in, kill everyone in combat and get to my objective. I hardly get the feeling I am an assassin, rather I felt like being a murderer. There's only a few instances that you'll want to kill a few enemies stealthily, in particular when you need to kidnap one enemy alive. Unless you don't care, since that is optional... Other than that you can pretty much just wreck and murder about it London with wild abandon without consequences other than alerting police and enemies nearby, that you can promptly kill. Civilians' reaction is mostly to scatter, if even that, but don't call the police. You can go on roofs and kill dozens of enemies on the ground with throwing knives right in front of each other, but they'll just look to the dead bodies wondering what happened... Oh, and the introduction of carriages and riding them is hilarious, they take little damage, horses don't mind collisions at all, you can drift around corners and pretty much lay untold wreckage in London like it's an everyday commonplace thing. The main story missions are just a minor step-up in mechanics and settings than the optional ones. Murder mysteries are PS4 time-exclusives, and co-op and heist missions are missing from Unity, and those were some of the best actual missions in Unity.

The story is not very rich, there's not a lot of characters or character development. Who are the Assassins, 3 guys in London? The main antagonist mostly sits about the whole game, philosophizing, until you fight him in the last mission. The story dances around conflict between Evie's and Jacob's different methods on how to accomplish Assassins' goals, but there's little actual development of that, you just keep on playing. There's hardly any memorable moments, like in Unity's Versailles Ball, Notre Dame assassination, hot air balloon... Historical themes introduced like child labor, votes for women, working class vs high society are just superficially addressed, with little more than mentioning them here and there while you play the same mission types over and over.

I suppose I should mention that the game looks and sounds impressive, but that's it.

Some **** cutscene's that try to make you care, a story about stopping such and such from doing such and such. It's a joke. The entire Assassins creed series has been about taking money off suckers, not making good games, something I realized about after my millionth bloody hour of climbing walls and stabbing people.
Who's doing what this time? Who cares? It's like ad-libs, change the names, the places, the time period, and feed us back the exact same game they've given us what, nearly a dozen times already.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I simply can not understand how some people can give Unity an abyssmal rating and rate this game with a high score.
Yes, Unity had a bad launch and it needs a decent PC, but when I started playing it (mid last year), it worked amazingly well, and I experienced a grand total of two (!) bugs in that game.

Now, behold Syndicate. I can not even begin to describe how much this one disappointed me, and how much it is NOT fun to play. Let's go through the bad parts, k?

    - Horribly cliche and uninteresting characters. The same tired old siblings conflict, one being the chaotic guy, the other the more moralistic and straight one. Jacob is a bad attempt at combining Hugh Jackman in the Holmes-movies and Johnny Depp - detached, overconfident, a bit goofy, wisecraking, not fazed by anything. Dull, same as his conflict with Evie, which is just cliche after cliche (not to mention that the fact their FATHER IS DEAD" is mentioned about 8 billion times, lest you forget.

    - Bugs. OMG the bugs. Getting stuck, crashes, stuff like: Am supposed to kidnap a guy and chase him in his carriage. I destroy his carriage, he gets flung out and lands on the roof of a cabin about 7 feet off the ground. I climb up, pick up his corpse, and...can't walk or jump off the roof, or drop his body off the roof. Suddenly, I am 600 feet in the air, falling to the ground, without dieing, but have to replay the whole mission.
Or... if you fight on a slanted roof, the thugs can't hit you. So you can simply take them out without ever being hit.

    - The combat is where this game totally sucks. Totally. This is the WORST combat in any of the AC games, and I have finished them all. Spammy, beating guys with a stick over and over and over (yeah, how realistic). Suddenly, they hit you back with NO chance to block. So no matter how well you play and fight, they lash out and you get hurt. Fighting more than 2 enemies max at one time- forget it, you are dead. See, I love AC, I have beaten them all, and even though most AC games didn't have perfect combat, eventually you could master it and beat even larger groups of enemies. Here? Forget about it.
On top of it, at first you can only possess 2 health potions. Good luck with groups. Most frustrating, dull, repetitive, unimaginative combat I ever saw in an AC game. Horrible.

    - Parcour. It sucks. It's slow. They took some things from Unity (climb up and down with two different buttons), but it feels liek it takes forever to cross small distances. You get stuck a lot too, and it almost feels as random as in "I didnt mean to DO that!" as some of the earliest ACs. Rogue, Unity, they did this so much better.
The rope-gun might sound fun on paper, but its not dynamic at all, feels slow and clunky, and doesn't fit the period the game is set in.

    - Hardly any atmosphere. Everything looks bland, and there is no vibe to the city at all. Yeah, you will see the famous sights of London, but apart from, say, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, it's just dull. Unity had so much atmosphere, with huge amounts of NPCs on the street and this sinister, mysterious vibe to Paris. Here? Dull.

    - The story is so uninteresting, it's hard to believe.

    - Even though it's not as bad as in Unity, there is the same old Ubisoft-stuff with the map.. unlock an area, and there you go, 800 side activities no one cares about. Pick up pressed flowers, visit famous places, pick up some helix items. Yawn. Unity had too much of that, I admit, but even here, it's way too much.

    - There are like 4 different kind of enemy thugs. And it's so obvious. It's like your enemies have a factory where they cloned 4 guys. It's totally immersion-killing, unimaginative and tiring.

    - The new level system sucks, same as the skill trees. And yay, we can upgrade our gang members! /sarcasm. I find this so disappointing... it was fun to hire assassins in Brotherhood and Revelations, calling them into combat, and they'd appear, fight and disappear like assassins. Here, you hire some brainless thugs to fight for you. If this is supposed to be innovative, I'll pass.

    - The music is terribly uninteresting and not memorable at all.

    - The train HQ adds NOTHING

What ruins the game most to me is
    a) The horrible spammy combat. It never is fun, where you feel great because you take out a whole group of mobs if you play well. It's frustrating, often unfair and totally un-assassin-like IMO. You level p and earn skills, yet you never feel stronger or more powerful. I am not talking about god-mode or something, I just loved how in older AC games, you'd get more skills and get stronger, while here, it stays frustrating.
    b) The horrible characters and story. Jacob is a cliche goofy jerk, and I find him MUCH less interesting than even the more critizised characters such as Arno or Connor.

It's good they are taking a break with the franchise, and hope they bring it back with something fresh and imaginative. This is just phoned in repetive junk, sorry

In general, the authors have done everything possible to restore confidence in the series. And they did it. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate is a race in Victorian London. The British capital of the times of industrial revolution meets tirelessly milling factories, Big Ben, buzzing locomotives, food-barges roaming the Thames, social stratification and exploitation of child labor. While the elite of the society drinks elite tea from the elite service, wears a smeared mustache and dresses in fashionable costumes, London's dirty lanes are filled with homeless people begging alms in the corners and hellish factories where children work day and night. All areas of the city - from public transport to industry - are controlled by Hanglers, a group of Templars, organized by villain Crawford Starrick. The main characters of the game, the young twins-assassins Jacob and Ivi Fry (in the open world can freely switch between characters), go to London to put their order there and at the same time to find a piece of Eden. To cope with this duet of Fry will help their adventurism, youthful enthusiasm and sense of humor: brother and sister willingly exchange mockery, and this animates history. Jacob arrives in London and delves into the heart of the matter, boldly declares: "Why do not we set up our gang and attack the Villagers?" Having caught Ivy's dubious look (say, how do we do it, did we just come to London?), Jacob resolutely undertakes. As a result, Fry gathers his gang: meet the new players in the London showdown - Rooks. In Assassin's Creed: Syndicate much is done correctly. Here, for example, much better intertwined in the general narrative of historical personalities: Jacob will meet Charles Dickens, Karl Marx and other important personalities. Each has a whole story arc - it's not Assassin's Creed Unity for you, where Napoleon was given a pathetic one and a half cat-scene.

The authors actively juggle with situations: here in one of the first scenes Syndicate cites an episode with a train from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - right up to camera angles; Here Ivy plays the right melody on the piano to open the secret entrance; in another scene, Jacob and Ivi participate in a shootout on the crews debuting in the series. In Syndicate, you can steal any city vehicle (hello, Grand Theft Auto!) And quickly drive it to the right place, and also ram the enemy transport carriages, in parallel sweeping the lampposts and trees.

However, a more interesting innovation in the mechanics of Syndicate was the harpoon (yes, almost like the Dark Knight). Thanks to him you can quickly break away from the pursuers, instantly throwing himself at the top of the nearest building. It actively has to be used during a secret passage - the harpoon allows you to instantly change position and save time. Previously, you had to climb for a long time and run from one building to another, and now - once or twice, and you are already shooting the sentry on the next roof. And yes: in Assassin's Creed for once, a fascinating stealth appeared.

The Bad: Everything else about the game is pretty bad. Although it performs out of the box better than AC:U did, it's still pretty choppy on high settings, even on high end computers. Moreover, the game is buggy (crashes or locks up frequently) and the controls are still garbage. The storyline is mediocre and the characters aren't well developed.

The Really Bad: What I find most obnoxious about this game and what's probably permanently driven me away from the series is the way the developers push their identity politics in your face at every turn and in the most ham-fisted of ways. For instance, although the previous startup disclaimer was more than adequately inclusive, the game's designers inexplicably modified it to now include "sexual orientations" and "gender identities" while removing the previous acknowledgement of their "various religious faiths." The inclusion of an openly transgender character in Victorian England of all places was equally laughable, and one character's delivery of a snarky line in which she demands the right to vote was cringeworthy. Overall, this comes across as a game that was designed by a bunch of delusional Tumblr users who don't have any idea what the loyal fanbase of the game really wants and honestly doesn't care either way. The whole mess comes across is an obvious attempt to win over the vocal minority of SJWs at the expense of those of us who just want to enjoy our games without getting drawn into annoying political debates.

I am running the game on max settings (except PCSS Ultra and HBAO+ Ultra) on a desktop with an Intel i7 CPU, NVIDIA 980 GPU (4GB), and 16GB RAM, with pretty stable 60FPS.

The main characters in Assassin's Creed Syndicate are fantastic! I absolutely love their personalities, and they are defiantly competitors to the character we all know and love, Ezio Auditore Da Firenze. Jacob and Evie Frye have a houmoristic and great relationship, which makes it fun to watch every cut-scene.

The gameplay is something different from the other Assassin's Creed games, but I like it. It is nice too see that Ubisoft take chances by changing the gameplay of the series, which makes it more fun for us to play the new game. Ubisoft has taken a step away from the usage of swords in combat, which makes the combat in this game feel fresh and new. They have also added the new "hookshot", which gives the game an even more fresh feeling, bcs it gives you a new way of traveling around.

I could write about this game the whole day, but I think you guys get the point by now. I completely love this game! 10/10

First off I should say that I have never played an Assassin's Creed game and had never planned to until I got this game for free. Okay, the good: The graphics, art design, and atmosphere are really spectacular and definitely qualify as next-gen or whatever term we're using these days. The story is beyond me because I've never played an assassin's Creed game so it feels like watching the latest season of a long running TV show on its last legs and it really is not engaging for me in the slightest. Okay, the bad: The controls in this game are so bad, this may be the first game I uninstall without playing it all the way through. Oh, you want to aim? Too bad! The game does that for you, poorly. Oh, you want to jump? Screw you idiot, I'm going to grapple this wall and not let go until your head explodes in a mist of rage, skull, blood and viscera. Oh, you wanted to jump off this building to escape? Too bad! You're going to dangle helplessly jamming the E button while the idiot AI shoots you and you fall to your death. This game is so bad I think it really reveals how corrupt the gaming review industry has become. Screw those sexist gamergaters, let's go after the reviewers accepting bribes to get the hapless consumer to buy this awful, awful game. Expand

Certainly an optimized game. Though my GTX 970 could not run it at max. settings for high framerates, it still looks & play much better than the consoles.

In addition, the game is not optimized for AMD cards. When running the game on a 380x the experience was laughable unless played at lower settings. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (If you read this one twice then that is my fault, I logged into the wrong account, still trying to find out how to delete the other review)
I'm running this game on 20fps average on my i5-5200u and GT830M and I'm totally find with that. I had to play the game on 1024x768 40Hz, all low except texture quality on medium and anti-aliasing on FXAA. I'm actually surprised that it ran better on launch day than Unity but enough of performance.

    Performance : 9.5/10

Gameplay was good, I like the return of the whistle and the fact that you can whistle anytime and anywhere. The addition of the rope launcher felt required as the roads were wider and the buildings were further apart. The animations in this was similar to Unity but had some of it's own animations, my favourite animations were the new assassination ones and also the combat finishers. Combat felt fast paced, though a little unrealistic, it was fun. Parkour controls were a little clunky at first, but I got used to it and just 4 hours prior to this review, patch 1.21 was released and downloaded, the controls were better now after the patch. The boss fight was pretty intense if you ask me.

    Gameplay : 9/10

The story was a little dull in my opinion, it introduced us to Jacob and Evie Frye, twin Assassins which I already liked after the first 2 missions/sequences, I also like the different personalities between the two of them. The story then continues in London where Crawford Starrick and his Blighters has taken over and God damn it is huge. As to character progression, we get to see little progress with bigger impacts. For example, Evie who at first was faithful to Ethan's quotes and teachings began to see them only as quotes which although has meanings but that doesn't mean she has to live by them. A better example for me would be Jacob who became more rational and realize his mistakes. Modern day story continues in this and has more... depth.. than Unity did, I really liked it. Both Modern and Historical endings were different in their own way yet satisfying if you think like me.(Some people disliked the endings for some reason)

    Story : 8.5/10

Graphics, now this I can't say much due to the fact that I ran on low qualities the entire game but it still looks great to me.

    Graphics : 9/10

Overall, this is a great game and quite a step up from Unity, now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Unity(as you can see in my Unity review) but this game was a better one game. There have been some things that I have not mentioned like the side-missions, gang wars, etc. That is mainly because I haven't finished them, I'm more story-driven so I tend to push them aside first. I'm eagerly waiting for the Jack The Ripper DLC, I have a theory of my own for the DLC.

Post Scriptum:(Don't read it if you get butthurt easily)
However, I would like to address that most people that gave this game a 0 or a 1 out of 10 care more about the graphics and..uhh... well complain about stuff. I remember when at Unity, the cloth physics wasn't capped and there were bugs and glitches and people complained about the bugs and glitches, now when it is capped, people go crazy about it too, I understand that it hurts your eyes when you're running at 60fps and the cape runs at 30fps and that is an acceptable complaint. What isn't acceptable is people calling the game repetitive, I mentioned this in my Unity review where Assassin's Creed is a franchise which tries new things but keeps the main core aspects of the games. There are also people who just want to shame this game/franchise where they just give it a 0/10 even though they like some parts of the game(performance, gameplay, etc), honestly I have no comment for them, but those who at least gave a 1 or 3, I'd like to say thank you for your honesty. Most 0/10 reviews even make me wonder if they have even played the game yet. I do in fact, respect everybody's opinions but sometimes it just doesn't make sense. There were bugs in the game, yes but honestly, they're not game-breaking now are they? Some of them are funny(well to me), I even had bugs and glitches which made me laugh(rarely get bugs though). I like to think that most people who gave a really low rating get influenced by the haters or comparing it with a game that they actually liked. This may sound like a rant and even make me look like i'm butthurt and well, I am, a little. I apologize if I offended you in any way but such is my opinion.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate tells the story of twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye
You can freely switch back and forth between the 2 to complete tasks around the city and to free roam, but each is unique in their ability and have their own specific story missions to give you a feel for both.
There is a very simple skill tree and leveling system here, but Jacob and Evie only have a few unique skills, such as Evie having the ability to go invisible while in sneak mode, which I found no use for at all in the main campaign considering the majority of the story’s quests belongs to Jacob.
Jacob specializes in combat compared to evies stealth.
He wants to rile up a gang and take control of London.
Gaining control is really where the different character styles can come into play,
I found myself looking to Evie to free the children in factories., for everything else I just stuck to Jacob.
There are technically a variety of tasks here such as bounty hunts where you kidnap a target or kill them and take them in for a reward, Templar hunts where you’re tasked with killing a or 2 Templar enemies, and strongholds where you just clear them out.
I appreciate the child liberation missions because they give a sense of time beyond the themes and skins, but for the most part there’s nothing special about these side activities. It’s the same thing we’ve got year after year since Brotherhood but with new names.
After you’ve done all activities in a section of the map a gang leader challenges you and then you take on a rival gang to finally claim the section for your own.
As you progress through the story you’ll also be able to do train robberies and steal cargo, these tasks are important because Syndicate also feature an annoying quote un quote crafting system.
Its fairly easy to get money in syndicate from main missions and your vault, but its super annoying to have so much and not be able to spend it because you don’t have the needed materials, so your only choice is go do a boring mission or purchase a material pack with real life money.
You can’t buy weapons or items from a store, you can only craft them.
This obviously was put into the game to take advantage of people only interested in the fun aspects of assassin’s creed. And escorting cart after cart isn’t it.
Speaking of carts, there are now horse drawn carriages you can hijack and ride around the city, very fun to play around with and makes traversing the city much faster I only used fast travel 2 or 3 times in my entire time playing, that’s how much I loved riding through London smashing things.
If you want to stick to feet, there’s another tool introduced, the grappling hook.
It’s been apparent that assassins creed has been chasing batman with the past 2 entries, no spoilers, but there was clear penguin influence in last year’s game with one villain, and there’s clear joker influence in this year’s game with another,, and here we are with the ability to grapple our way out of a stick situation, or zip line from building to building and create our own air assassination opportunities, however the grappling hook doesn’t work quite as good as one would hope.
Maybe I’m spoiled by batman, but I’m not a fan of searching for a prompt before I can use my hook, I want to be able to just press the button and go... sometimes this does work that way, but a lot of the time you’re awkwardly waiting for you to zip out of there and nothing happens.
Sometimes you’ll look up at edges and a prompt just won’t show up... I was skeptical of this tool at first, but came to love and appreciate it... it does need some work though,
Speaking of needing work the campaign.
The story in syndicate is decent, but the delivery of this story, not so much…

Every main Assassin’s Creed Game has a special moment, a special introduction to a character and their development as an assassin.
Assassins Creed Syndicate dives right in, it treats Jacob and Evie Frye like we’ve gotten other games with them, as if they are developed and well known character, but they aren’t, we know nothing other than they are twins, you get a sense of their sibling rivalry throughout the game, but a prologue into the characters would’ve made me care for these characters.
Any sort of character development at all to be honest would be greatly appreciated,
New characters can’t just be automatically established, it would be like starting the ezio trilogy with brotherhood
It’s like meeting a friend of your friend at a party and told to hang out with them for 20 hours.
They cry about their problems without giving you a reason to care.
    I didn’t at all.
Not for a second did I care about these characters, or about London…
I felt no urgency to do anything.
This is the first time I’ve ever played an assassins creed game and not care of its outcome.
However it was nice to see Assassins creed slightly inch its way back to what made it great and such a guilty pleasure to begin with.
The team at ubisoft seem to actually be listening to fans, modern day is more prevalent this time and they even brought Desmond back! As a dog. But seriously, the modern day story is the best it’s been since Assassins Creed IV, still, nowhere near as good as it was in that game or the 5 games before it.
There is a really neat section in this game that gives you more context to the modern day stuff but you aren’t even told about, you kind of have to find it for yourself…
It’s almost like they are embarrassed of their modern day story ties… its like modern day is their girlfriend and they wont accept her relationship request on facebook.
But news flash ubisoft, the modern day is what gets people talking, it’s what brings us to your forums, it what gets people itching for more.
If you want preorders, you need to up your game in this department or you risk losing your diehard fans to casuals that may or may not buy because cool 1868 brand theft auto.
Campaign missions have greatly improved though.
In terms of variety, this is the best we’ve gotten since assassins creed 3.
No 2 missions felts the same, but all were lacking power. There were no epic moments in this game... not. Even. 1. Mission variety is important, but even Assassins Creed IVs tail mission after tail mission campaign was more enjoyable due to the pure epic moments that game delivered,
    the camping felt stale…
Optional objectives are still here, and are getting better and better... but they need to be ditched.
Someone needs to tell the people at ubisoft that optional objectives aren’t fun.. Oh wait... everyone does... every year... and they don’t listen.
Why such an emphasis on stealth for a brute?
For a game about assassinating, there are way too many don’t kill anyone objectives, sure that’s fine since we can knock enemies out, but let the player choose to handle the situation this way if they choose.
Optional objectives are no better than annoying grading systems.
I love that if you mess up enemies now run rather than you getting desynced, but seeing a red box flash across your screen nullifies this illusion of freedom.
If micro transaction filled leveling systems can make sense in this universe, so can a lack of optional objectives. I’m even fine with desyncs for being detected every once in a while and stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent may be an awesome quote, but it doesn’t make for awesome gameplay. I was given awesome tools to stealthfuly take out enemies, and then I’m told not to use them. All in all, Assassins Creed Syndicate is an enjoyable time, but nothing special. Assassins Creed Unity had me excited for the future, but syndicate seemed to take a few steps back. For what it is Action Adventure Stealth 8/10 overall 8.5/10

I've played all AC since Ac 2 till syndicate and this is the first overall good game after brotherhood. Ac3, blackflag, chronicles & unity were pure disasters It runs very well on pc, has some bugs here and there which probably gets fixed soon. I wouldn't buy it but since you can get it for free over torrents its worth to play.

Awful, boring the combat sux is pure button mashing over and over, the quest are repetitive.
Runs good but is beacuse its downgraded and even with that consumes a lot of vram, the controls are clunky and you cant get comfortable with, the character does anything but the thing that you want...

I encountered more bugs in this game than in AC unity. The control is janky as always. The AIs are stupid af. The quests are boring. I can't believe there is a scripted chase scene that could last a minute. And those carriage races! The only great thing about these wagons is they, together with the hook gun thing, help me traverse through the city more quickly to waste less time.

For me, the worst of the Assassins Creed games, I have played. Poorly optimised, buggy, to an extent that I found it largely unplayable. The complete opposite of Unity which which I found mostly well optimised and reasonably playable. Can't believe they came out in the same year!

I just want to jump down, cant do it. it prefers to climb slowly down.
I want to jump to an other house (always worked in previous ac), doesn't work. you need to use the rope, where you can press 100 times the same key to come to your destination. before you could only jump.
There is also no possibility to switch the side, where you are hanging. if you climb to left or right, if there is a obstacle in your way, you could easily skip it, going further left. Now there is no possibility to do that. you need to climb up on the obstacle, then climb down on other side down. I made 500 times wrong jumps, before i hadn't any problem. in no game i had such problems with wrong jumps.

    Conclusion:
It's so bad and it so frustrating. i got no more nerve for this stupid game.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate is the ninth installment in the popular stealth action adventure series Assassin's Creed. Given that prior to this game, there were already eight major episodes in the AC series and the settings of Victorian London had indeed intrigued me, I was quite confident about what to expect from this game. Given that prior to this game, there were already eight major episodes in the AC series and the settings of Victorian London had indeed intrigued me, I was quite confident about what to expect from this game. But from the very start of the game I have been confronted with some changes that I could not have anticipated. But more about that later. As always I want to start on a positive note. One thing that did not surprise me was the quality of the infrastructure of London. The attention for detail is very good, and while it is not entirely historically accurate, it is quite close. I came to expect nothing less from an AC game and I was not let down in this regard. Also the controls seemed a little better, little less console like, with nice touches, like a designated button to enter a window. Sadly this is about it as far as my positives go. The first big change is that this time you play as two characters, assassin siblings. It was an interesting choice, I even somewhat liked it, but it had a couple of flaws in my eyes. First of all, the relationship between the two siblings is not very well written and feels a bit awkward and forced. Second flaw is that while it was suggested that the two characters have a different approach to carrying out their missions, in the end (specially when fully talented) they actually feel pretty much the same and switching between them is pretty much down to your personal preference. The second big change concerns the combat. Not the combat system as such, but rather the feel of the combat. Instead of the somewhat slow paced sword fighting combat of the previous installments, we have this very fast paced knife stabbing frenzy. It looks almost ridiculous, stabbing an already dead man over and over like a maniac. And speaking of knifes, there are no knifes in fact, just these ridiculous curved kukri, cane swords and brass knuckles. All these changes were very obviously done just for the sake of change, which is something that rarely works. A new addition to the series, horse drawn carriages, look pretty cool, but the driving is awfully arcade. AC games never were, not were meant to be, really challenging for experienced PC gamers. But this time, the difficulty is lowered by another level or two and frankly the game is just too easy. The legendary useless Ubisoft collectables are maybe a little bit more entertaining this time (beer bottles, pressed flowers). Microtransactions are back and more disgusting than ever before. I am already used to seeing all these short overpriced story DLCs and ridiculous 10 bucks horse armor kind of deals, but this time that is not all. We have the in-game Helix points currency, which can be purchased for real life dollars and is used to buy, among other things, talents. This is the cancer of gaming. And finally what can I say about the SJW in this game? It is ever-present. This time they updated their SJW loading screen, which says that "this game was designed, developed and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities". At it shows! We have female gangsters, a little girl who runs a gang, the Ned Wynert character (WTF is that), we are helping poor Indian nobles to defeat the bad, bad imperialist, the in-game database is clearly written by a progressive proletarian, in a main quest we can see a wealthy businessman kick a beggar just because, we have an entire side quest chain dedicated to helping Karl Marx, who is portrayed as strictly non-violent caring humanitarian, the character of Queen Victoria is an outright mockery and on top of all that you get the end-game kiss. It was totally immersion breaking for me.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate brings many changes to the series, most of which were not needed at all and at the same time, the aspects of the game that needed an overhaul the most, like the stale predictable story and repetitive gameplay were left mostly untouched. Final Verdict: 42%

The campaign is good as it shows how deep the corruption is that the Templars have a stronghold in every part of London from science, politics, finance to transportation. You kill the high profile templars but leave the position unfilled which just creates a vacuum of power. The grappling hook is a fun addition at first, but is so effective that doing parkour around the city is comparatively ineffective, so you just end up grappling again and again to get around.
Audio seemed weird a lot of the time. Background sounds were very lacking, and would make bustling crowds of NPC's seem sort of dead. Cutscenes would also have a lot of awkward quiet parts, where I couldn't help but thinking that background sounds or some music could have been a nice addition.

First half of the game is sort of okay, but second half is a boring chore with little reward in terms of story.

The only new noticeable additions are : grappling hook, coach driving, and leading a gang. None of those features are unique. We saw them in lots of other games already. But I have to admit, London is beautiful and very fun to explore. The main downside of the game is so much unused potential. You can see that the creators of this game were in a hurry. The story of twins Eve and Jacob starts promising, but it falls flat couple of missions in. For me the story was nearly identical wth the AC: Unity, with some twists. Assassin's Creed Syndicate fails to amuse with its poor optimization, disappointing graphics, stupid AI, vague and unexciting writing, extremely hollow side activities, and horrible controls. While the general stealth and combat gameplay is fun despite being very unimmersive, I can't say this game is up for speed by 2015's standards, considering there are way better open world games out there.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is the “last hurrah” of traditional Assassin’s Creed games. After the disappointment of Unity, which had a good story but poor gameplay, Syndicate has great gameplay but an awful story. And on top of that, it is way too easy, even for an Assassin’s Creed game. The Gold Edition is worth purchasing at 75% off (which would be around $15 at current prices), but theAssassin’s Creed Syndicate is the “last hurrah” of traditional Assassin’s Creed games. And on top of that, it is way too easy, even for an Assassin’s Creed game. The Gold Edition is worth purchasing at 75% off (which would be around $15 at current prices), but the old magic is gone.
Total size on my hard-drive (Gold Edition): 64.3 GB

    - - Micro-transactions in a single-player game. Not mandatory, but still: seriously, Ubisoft?
    - No campaign co-op.

    + Graphics are amazing.
    + Optimization is excellent.

+/- Character writing slips a bit. I was apparently one of the few who liked Arno Dorian in Unity, and neither of the Frye twins has anything near the same depth. Evie is the more traditional assassin, while Jacob is all punkish swagger. Neither ever become more than their action-hero stereotype.
+/- Combat has been completely re-worked from Unity to be more like the Batman Arkham games. It works and flows well enough, but has very little depth.
+/- Mission design is a wildly mixed bag. Some feel like vintage Assassin’s Creed (preventing the ambush of Disraeli). Others seem like they were thrown together with only the most meagre of progression clues, like “find the secret passage.” Apparently I’m supposed to slowly wander the mission zone looking for a highlighted candlestick to open a movable wall. That’s if other members of your gang don’t trigger a mission fail by “protecting” their stealthed boss from some enemies.
+/- Good selection of side-activities. After Black Flag, easily the most time I’ve spent in an Assassin’s Creed game chasing quest markers. But as one of the primary means of gaining money, you’ll being doing them a lot.
+/- Decent side-quests. A variety of historical figures show up, each with their own independent stories and missions. It was cool following Karl Marx around for a few missions, but the missions themselves are just more tracking / crowd control / defend / drive a carriage etc. that already fills the side-activities in the main game.
+/- Parkour issues from Unity are mostly fixed, but are still glitchy.
+/- Jack the Ripper DLC starts well, but then descends into the same grinding bs that I had to do in the main campaign. You lose most of your skills and all your equipment, too – even though the DLC is set 20 years after the main campaign. The story might be good, but I was literally too bored with the activities to bother finding out.

    - Micro-transactions. Either pay real money to add in-game currency, or be prepared to spend dozens of hours grinding for in-game money. (Micro-transactions are not mandatory.)
    - Too easy. Gameplay is clearly balanced for people who don’t do many side-activities; take over a few boroughs and you’ll quickly find yourself over-leveled.
    - Glitchy. Here’s a perfect example. The bonus objective: “Climb on the same carriage as the thief.” BUT THE THIEF NEVER HIJACKS A CARRIAGE. Result: failed full synchronization.
    - Missed opportunity for campaign co-op.
    - Starting a mission disables fast-travel. Even if the next objective is ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP (which happens about half the time).
    - Throwing knives are OP. Makes the rest of the tools unnecessary.
    - Where is the Creed? Some missions require the killing of innocents (soldiers or police, usually). The Creed is actually never mentioned by anyone. The only time the classic phrase “Requiescat in pace” is spoken is after Evie has changed out of a ball dress into her assassin garb and throws the corset to the ground.
    - Story is bad. There’s a templar who is ruling London, oh no! We gotta battle him for London’s soul! The villain is never developed, and his platitudes never move beyond the usual “I was going to make something new and wonderful.” Looking back at previous Assassin’s Creed games – even Unity – it’s just bad. Check that. Unity’s story looks like a masterpiece next to this.
    - Absolutely horrendous final “boss.”
    - Most missions have no penalty for being detected, or no bonus for finishing them undetected. Missions can still be stealthed, but there is very little motivation to do so.

Assassin’s Creed remains one of my favorite franchises, but with Ubisoft doing its best to copy the Witcher 3 in newer games, Syndicate functions as the final iteration of a classic formula. It’s a combination of exploration, mystery, stealth and over-powered hack ‘n slash thrills that I’m sorry to see outdated. Syndicate mostly does the gameplay justice, but it was an odd choice to make the combat inspired by Batman instead of Hitman. (Imagine: an Assassin’s Creed that had multiple objective paths and allowed the use of disguises. Revolutionary!) Unforgivable, though, is the sad attempt at story telling. At least we still have the classics.

Evie is very beautiful, and sweet, is always considered, and sometimes this game (the developers obviously wanted to please women). The main villain is not a monster, he's a normal man with perverted ideas.
Nevertheless, the plot is held interesting - there are a lot of interesting missions. The job of the characters is also very nice place (Darwin's wonderful).
The main innovation is the combat system. It works well and looks very cruel, especially dobivanie, and it's cool!
London looks very beautiful and realistic. Ubisoft again confirmed that he can build the most plausible worlds. Recommend this next adventure. Yes, it is regular, but not bad and worth the money spent and time. The characters will hook you for sure.

An amazing steampunk experience. As a fan of Dishonored and steampunk, I had to go for Syndicate and it did not disappoint me. The openworld industrial Victorian London setting is quite remarkable and fun to explore. The DLCs are a great addition to the game and are a must play too.

    Story
    3.5/5

Mediocre start but likeable protagonists. Stereotypical antagonists and outstanding historical people.
Setting of the era and place is well chosen and one bonus era is also welcome but somehow underwhelming.
The dialogues are mostly filler but the voiceovers and some rare funny moments are really good.
Main protagonists evolve slightly which only shows in the late game.

    Gameplay
    3.5/5

All guns blazing in close combat with easy to counter attacks and combos or more tactical stealth options.
A few uninspiring missions repeat themselves too often.
Some interesting bonus objectives which promote an additional challenge.
Parkour and travelling across the city is easy and enjoyable but the combat can be abused very easily and assassinations can be over with quickly.
Some cool ideas with combat tools and upgrades.

    Replay value
    2.5/5

A lot of loot and experience make the game significantly easy in the end game and grinding is only required for a couple of hours at the start.
Two independent protagonists but their playstyle is almost identical.
We can't choose who to play as in main missions and we will also easily unlock all upgrades in the mid game.
We may play with a better knowledge of our opponents and mechanics in the second run and it would be a walk in the park, I don't see a real point in replaying it.
The game offers a sandbox after the end which I guess is in place because there are more missions and places to visit.

    Verdict
    6/10

I was very conflicted at the start and wanted this to be over quickly but in the end I started to like the protagonists more. The gameplay and missions won't blow anyone's mind. The world itself is quite nice when it opens up and options are ever present for exploration and a few unique moments in the story itself and some funny parts helped me get through thousands of mindless assassinations.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is a 3rd person sci-fi hack and slash RPG set in the historical era of mid 19th century to early 20th London portraying real historical figures mixed with fictional stealthy assassins.

Two playable protagonists are conflicting with each other. And one of them later grows in character but initially the game doesn't start with a very good first impression.

Furthermore, the area we start is a tutorial one and the first borough of London we visit isn't impressively big or nice.

The gameplay doesn't offer much variety when it comes to two characters having their late game unique skill upgrades and that's the small problem.

Those skills aren't needed for the late game and even when they would matter I found myself playing for the second character because the game doesn't allow me to pick one for the main missions.

There are also two differences between the two characters. Evie has a cape while Jacob has a belt. They can wear their own sets of clothes and their personalities make more difference than the actual playstyles.

I've spent half of the game grinding and oblivious to understand that it wasn't even necessary to progress. I was vastly overpowered from mid to late game and I wasn't offered any real challenge, at least I made it a little more interesting by fulfilling the bonus objectives, like not killing policemen or staying undetected.

We receive experience for a lot of activities, destroying city lamps, multi kills, fancy kills, vanishing, etc. It's simple to gain a new level up and it is wise not to waste the points into something pointless at the start.

I've found a few upgrades to be pretty useful for both characters; auto looting enemies, unlocking doors, eagle vision 2 and health boosts. One line of upgrades in particular wasn't very useful; carriages.
There are seriously a lot of loot chests. They all contain money and materials, the golden ones gave me some special drafts for equipment. With eagle vision 2 it's even easier to find them, I was initially not playing with vision through walls which felt like a cheat against enemies but saved me a lot of frustration. Getting all upgrades is inevitable. The story of activities like taking over the boroughs isn't interesting at all but the encounters may sometimes be fun and funny, especially if you're like me and take the effort to achieve some extra experience for doing objectives. This aspect of the game felt very grindy and dragged my interest in the game less. On the contrary, the historical figures added some flavour to the otherwise tasteless world of assassinations. Almost all of them were eccentric but didn't always offer me the most interesting missions to fulfil, however taking into account all they offered, I enjoyed a small couple of them much more than the rest. My upgrades provider and my secret accomplice were quite fun.

No wonder why they've added a grappling hook, without it, the game would be unplayable. I had to load a saved checkpoint more than 10 times because something broke and I couldn't finish the mission. Game difficulty is waaay too easy. You can basically finish last missions at the end of every sequence just by going in, without doing any helpful stuff that's not necessary, and easily press mouse 1 to assassinate who you have to assassinate. After that, you just have to run on a building and use a hook. 10 seconds run and you've just lost chasing guards. I remember playing previous AC games where I couldn't even climb on a building because they were throwing rocks or shooting at me, which resulted in falling down and losing 3/4 of hp bar. Health potions could also be non existent because I've used them like 3 times during the whole game as you don't have to take fights at all, you can just run. I wanted to come back to AC series after a "divorce" in 2016, but this games successfully made me not want to play Origins and newer titles. Story is very boring and predictable. After sequence 5-6 i was just skipping dialogues because I didn't care about these boring characters. Quiet sad that AC series ended like that. It was one of my favourite ones when I was younger, but now It's a total trash. If you like buggy mess and didn't play previous AC games you might be happy, I'm definitely not. Expand

For all that I'm down on Assassin's Creed as a whole, Syndicate is at least one of the better entries in the series. And there is admittedly a certain charm to familiarity—a ritualistic quality, as every year I load up the latest entry and proceed through its bevy of re-skinned content. “Hello, old friend. Nice to see you again. My, you haven't changed a bit."...But Assassin's Creed has long since been surpassed by its imitators, from Mad Max to Arkham City to Shadow of Mordor to Sunset Overdrive to Tomb Raider. What they lack in recreating a period of history, they make up for by offering something a modicum different.

The aging Assassin’s Creed franchise begs to be retooled and refreshed, and the paint-by-the-numbers Syndicate is yet more proof of that.

In the end, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is a far more competent entry than the much maligned Unity, but it does not entirely restore faith in the aging franchise.
