Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a wonderful return to what made the original a fan favourite. The stealth mechanics work remarkably well, and although players can go with a more attacking style if they so choose, Mirage has been developed in a way that encourages the slower methodical approach to each scenario. And then as players acquire the extra tools and increased abilities, this leads to different methods of completing the missions. With a gorgeous setting that rivals Assassin's Creed Origins and a wonderful soundtrack that sets the middle eastern tone, Assassin's Creed Mirage is a must play for fans of the series.

I lowered the score a little bit because it was separated from the modern story, a little bit because the track was not as smooth as I wanted to be. But I really cried in this game, friends. I cried because I really missed being the assassin in Assassin's Creed games.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage didn’t lie to us. The new opus offers us a return to basics in due form, with an old-fashioned credo and modern mechanics à la Unity. A true melting pot - both in terms of approaches, NPCs and mechanics taken from previous ACs - Mirage is a call to almost limitless freedom. On the other hand, its old-fashioned gameplay, its small technical shortcomings and its very classic side risk leaving some behind. But fans of the license have with Mirage a gripping story, a pleasant breath of nostalgia and a new grandiose dive into great History. Yes, Basim's adventure does not reinvent the wheel, but it is an excellent way to wait for the next big game in the license, Assassin's Creed Codename Red.

Mirage presents a blend of stealth-focused gameplay within a more intimate urban landscape, where players unravel intriguing mysteries in a city shrouded in secrets.

Assassin's Creed Mirage simplifies the complex systems of the mythological trilogy and returns to the solemn, dignified atmosphere of AC1. If you miss the Assassin's Creed before the mythological trilogy, Mirage is a must-play. It will rekindle the sense of wonder and emotion that the series used to provide.

The sheer joy of the game prevailed. It's far from perfect, but the basic "less rather than more this time" approach has really helped create one of the most fun games in the Assassin's Creed series in many years. And that's to be encouraged. [Issue#331]

In the end, Assassin's Creed Mirage is a great entry into the series, even with some of the baggage it inherits narratively from Valhalla. I can't wait to see how Ubisoft expands on Basim's journey in the entires to come.

Rough combat and simply serviceable story aside, Assassin's Creed Mirage trims the fat while also adding plenty of promise for future entries in the series.

If you want to experience a classic Assassin's Creed again, you absolutely can't go wrong with Mirage. Only the controls were better back then.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a return to the past in more ways than one. More focused and cohesive than its recent predecessors, it leaves the chaff aside to focus on what's really fun. The reduced size suits it perfectly and anyone who missed the classic Assassin's Creed action will feel right at home in the city of Baghdad, which is possibly one of Ubisoft's most captivating recreations.

A callback to what made Assassin's Creed a hit for many over the years. While the main character and the movement fall somewhat short, the world and reintroduction of classic mechanics make up for that in a big way.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage delivers a renewed focus that trims the fat from its predecessors to commemorate the very best bits of the series, but familiar parkour problems and anemic combat hold it back from true greatness.

It's like meeting an old friend again after years. You know and acknowledge his quirks, but at the same time you enjoy his company.

Assassin's Creed Mirage brings the series back to the old ways. The game, which will please old fans of the series, may not please everyone with its bad artificial intelligence and old-school gameplay.

Assassin's Creed Mirage isn't the triumphant return to glory that I hoped it'd be, but it's a good first stab.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an homage, a cover band of the early iterations of the series that tries as hard as it can to be respectful and bring the players back to the core of Assassin’s Creed. However, very basic combat and stealth mechanics, boring and forgettable story and clunky parkour mechanics are holding it back from being a truly great AC title. It does feel like an old Assassin’s Creed game, but it doesn’t play like one.

As mentioned earlier in the review, Assassin's Creed Mirage works well for those who wanted a return to the classic style. It's smaller in scale, and while that might seem disappointing compared to the general vastness of the latest titles, it also means that the experience isn't as daunting or overwhelming, so you actually have a shot at finishing the game before getting tired of it. Combat and stealth and traversal have been pared back, but it seems to find a decent middle ground where elements haven't regressed back to the beginning. It still looks and sounds good, and while those who loved the RPG-lite style that the game has morphed into will find themselves a little disappointed at the changes in Mirage, everyone else will be pleased at the return to the series' roots — even if it feels like it's missing some essentials.

The new installment in the popular Assassin's Creed series achieves what it sets out to be: an "old-school" experience that veterans of the series will enjoy. I just wish there were more improvements to the basic (yet fun) formula, and that the story was a tad better.

Because of that, Mirage may not be the course correction that many were hoping for – it certainly doesn't feel like the solution to Assassin's Creed's identity crisis, but it could be a start or at least an indication that both styles of the series can coexist with one another instead of only getting one or the other.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a worthwhile experience for invested fans of the series. It’s going to give you that stealth and stab gameplay that you’ve enjoyed before, even if it doesn’t build upon it outside of the tools. It’s bookended by exceptional first and third acts, but Ubisoft has again failed to create a detailed and meaningful world that you want to explore beyond its waypoints.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a welcome attempt to reignite the spark of the older games in the series, refined by the techniques of the newer. Unfortunately, the end result is a shallow and poorly written affair, held up by an interesting setting and some thoughtful main missions.
