Even though the main character was annoying, the game endeared itself to me with its overall successful gameplay and story. Main villain of the story was also well written.

Assassin's Creed III offers an intricate and captivating universe, building upon the legacy of its predecessors while introducing new elements to the series.

Firstly, it's worth noting that there is a remastered version, Assassin's Creed III Remastered, which includes this game along with Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD. While I prefer the original due to the fact that the remastered butchered the characters faces, I recommend playing the remaster due to certain content today only being available to play on it. Other than the bad faces, the remastered is the definitive way to play the game.

The certain content today only available in the remastered is the singleplayer DLCs. Ubisoft has removed the access to them for everybody, although they are already bought and already owned singleplayer content, together with taking down the multiplayer servers. This move has been a significant blow to the gaming community. Despite owning the DLCs, players are now unable to play the content, creating a sense of frustration and disappointment. While it is understanding to take the multiplayer servers down after a while, already owned singleplayer DLCs should not be possible to be taken away from you. Ubisoft's actions set a concerning precedent and raise questions about the company's commitment to preserving the gaming experiences of its dedicated audience.

The game stands as a notable improvement over its predecessors, with its enhanced graphics and fluid parkour and movement mechanics. The combat system is a true standout, offering an amazing and immersive experience that sets a new benchmark for the series. Additionally, the present-time storyline is captivating, providing a rewarding continuation of Desmond's journey and hard work.

While some may find it different rather than worse, the transition from the beloved Ezio trilogy to a new setting and protagonist can take some adjustment. However, Assassin's Creed III's narrative offers its own unique charm and moments of greatness. Notably, the game skillfully delves into the conflicts between the Templars and Assassins, leading players to ponder which faction holds the higher moral ground. The introduction of compelling characters, including one remarkable individual, enriches the overall storytelling.

Connor, the protagonist, carries a different persona compared to Ezio, displaying more naivety yet an unwavering dedication to doing what's right for all people, not just his own. His resolute and heroic nature, combined with his stoic demeanor, adds depth and relatability to his character.

In terms of drawbacks, the parkour mechanics, while more fluid and visually impressive, may seem overly simplified compared to its predecessors, missing some of the strategic complexities. The crafting system, while an interesting addition, suffers from a cumbersome and unintuitive user interface, making it somewhat of a pain to navigate.

Combat emerges as a highlight in Assassin's Creed III, surpassing its predecessors with stunning animations and brutal yet satisfying gameplay. The introduction of naval combat adds an enjoyable variety to the gameplay experience without becoming overused.

Regrettably, the game's multiplayer component is no longer accessible due to the shutdown of servers, which may disappoint fans who enjoyed that aspect.

In terms of achievements, while Assassin's Creed III offers an extensive list, it lacks proper implementation on Steam, hindering players' ability to showcase their accomplishments. Ubisoft Connect also lacks a comprehensive achievement display feature, and even lacks notifications of unlocking the achievements, further limiting the visibility of players' achievements. The achievements are only available to been seen by yourself on the Ubisoft Connect.

In conclusion, despite a few shortcomings, Assassin's Creed III is a compelling and worthwhile addition to the series. It is a game that deserves recognition for its significant improvements over its predecessors, its exceptional combat mechanics, and the way it brings history to life. Whether you are a longtime fan of the franchise or a newcomer, Assassin's Creed III offers an unforgettable adventure that is definitely worth exploring.

The game adds a slew of modern elements that are polished off later in the series and therefore don't shine as brightly in this installment. There are naval missions, homestead missions, hunting wildlife, crafting weapons and taking down forts, etc. The map is divided into cities such as New York and Boston, as well as forests. The game's protagonist is Connor, a Native American who had his life torn apart leading him to seek vengeance against those responsible. He is not as charismatic as Ezio, however, he exudes a commanding presence. The plot takes place over many years and depicts forests and cities shrouded with heavy snow, misty mornings, and brightly blooming summer, all of which affect how the environment and people react. Free running with parkour feels fresh. The game introduces climbing trees and jumping on the branches like a monkey is a beautiful addition to the game. The game introduces acrobatic combat with some gruesome kill animation. Once you've finished the campaign, watch this video that wasn't included in the game and this video to understand the turmoil the character went through, which helps make the character more memorable. The game has amazing graphics though it's bugged, amazing writing and characters though the first bit is too far stretched and Connor is misunderstood by players who didn't stick around; in short, after going through AC 1, II, Brotherhood, Revelations, and now III, I must say Assassin's Creed III is my favorite game in the series, something I would not have imagined myself saying back in 2015.

    Play the game, stick around.

After Revolutions comes a full-fledged new part, this time with the number III. It is no longer a subtitle, but a proper sequel, which, although not full of players, brings several changes. The main one is the new engine, thanks to which the game is sent to prominence by a graphic designer from 2012. I really experienced the biggest graphic shock of all AC parts here. At first glance, the game just looks a lot better. The environment has also undergone a change. In Revolutions, I quite complained about the locations of Istanbul, but I can't say a word here. I was absolutely captivated by the magic of the then Boston, and although in my opinion it does not surpass Italy from Assassin's Creed II, I am more than satisfied. The control, which a lot of players complained about, also underwent a change. I'm not on either side here. I liked control both in Ezio's trilogy and here. Unfortunately, the main character also had to undergo a change. We can only remember Ezia, and this time we get into the hands of the Indian Connor, who received a lot of negative criticism. I quite liked Conor while playing and yes, it was one of the worse assassins, but I didn't mind. What pleasantly surprised me about the game was the story. It can be seen that, unlike Revolutions, Ubisoft focused primarily on III, because in my opinion it is perhaps one of the best stories in the series. It is generally different from what we are used to and I believe that a lot of people will hate it and some will love it. The biggest change is probably that we play for two characters. For a Templar named Haytham Kenway, the father of the main protagonist Connor Kenway. Personally, I'm very happy for this change, because I love watching the story from the perspective of both characters. In addition to the time of the Assassins, we will also get the classic opportunity to play in the present, and this time it is the last time we will play for Desmond. Unfortunately, missions with him are rather a nuisance. There are some good ones, but perhaps the worst thing about the whole game is the passages, where you get unnamed items, which you then have to place in the given place at present. The game won't even show you where and I personally couldn't find these parts. Whether or not you have to do this in the game to move the story or not. I liked the missions with Desmond itself, but the parts where I ran like crazy around the cave and looking for a place to put the object were really poison. Luckily there are only 3, if I remember correctly, so you have it pretty quickly behind you and then hurry back to Anim and back to the assassins. There is the main entertainment in the form of a story, which came to my mind that the authors bet more than ever before in the series. It has its pros and cons. Fans of the story can complete the main missions right in advance and thus only go through the main story, but lovers of side missions and various things to collect, such as me, will not find much here. The game is more or less constantly moving forward and the secondary content rarely comes, although in the later phase of the game we will see some, even great news in the form of ship battles, which are not as great as in the later Black Flag, but here you are the developers could touch and test them in some way so that they could improve them for the next part. To sum it all up. Assassin's Creed III is a great title with a perfect story, in addition to the new graphic jacket that suits the game. The game was also very successful in changing the environment. I would almost forget to mention the hunt, which was really great and I really enjoyed hunting individual animals. From the same jumping and climbing it is a pleasant relaxation. The only things the game lags behind are the secondary content and the slightly worse main protagonist. Great game for me, which I recommend. Expand

This game differs quite a bit from the Assassin's Creed 2 trilogy with respect to the combat system, which I don't mind but make sense if old AC players dislike the new system. I myself like the story though, with the in vain effort of Ratonhnhaké:ton (not Connor) for his tribe really gave me chills.

This will be my 3rd playthrough i believe and can't wait to get into it. AC3 is an amazing gem that you should not forget to play. The battle scenes are amazing, the sounds, the characters, the time setting. No other AC title has come close to matching AC3's great beautifully told story.

Most underrated Assassins creed ever. Amazing storyline, beautiful wilderness. Some epic and memorable moments, epic naval battles. Probably my favourite along with Brotherhood. Cant give it 10/10 because of Connor.

Speaking of gammeplay, this game has a very good gameplay, but it has some problems with parkour because sometimes it jumps alone without you having tightened anything

Very good graphics for the time, an impeccable dubbing the game itself is very good

A highly underrated title from the series alongside with Rogue. The hunting side activities are actually fun unlike the farcry 3 that everyone adores. honestly I forgave Connor"s dull character when we were with his father. who was actually an interesting character.

This game is awful... I seriously want to write a long review but even then thinking about all of the bad just enrages me. Story was so predictable that I got to the part where you first get to sail your boat and gave up. That's it. I was done. I knew exactly what was going to happen. Wasn't worth my time playing if I knew the story already. What awful story

Assassin's Creed III introduced a lot to the table with hunting, boat sailing and better stealth mechanics. The city areas sometimes feel a bit empty as climbing from roof to roof is more tedious to do now. The gameplay and story were excellent. Connor felt a bit boring sometimes but Haytham was amazing to play.

Although it almost reshaped the whole Assassin's Creed series, with it's new game-play and feel. If offered content that was pretty repetitive, if the story was stripped down. Also lacked the charismatic main character. So overall, it was a good and fun game, but definitely had it's obvious faults. Multiplayer was huge in this title, and very polished!

To provide further usable context, all the poor ratings for this game that are focused on bugs and poor optimization are no longer relevant, due to the game having been patched and also due to average hardware now being well beyond what is needed to play this game at high graphical settings. That said, poor PC optimization is something that has plagued AC titles, including all the ones released after AC3 until now.

To put criticisms of AC3 into even greater context, the previous full game in the AC series was AC2 (which had a trilogy based on it), and is regarded to be the best game in the series. So, whatever full AC game came next was going to be judged the harshest of any AC title.

Looking at all these factors, I think that the conclusion is that AC3 isn't at all a bad game, and in fact might be a very good game, just released under, and judged by the harshest circumstances. I agree with that evaluation, and I think that AC3 is one of the best AC games... although it would be great if all other AC games had been bug-free, with AC2-level writing, and with great PC optimization - but that's not the AC series that we have. And since most games post-AC3 (Black Flag is the notable exception) have been substantially more boring and less conceptually-complex than AC3, then I think that it's time to retrospectively recognize that AC3 is a lot better than it has been given credit for being, and is one of the AC series' better games.

Gee, where do I start? OK, maybe like this... AC III has some kind of a bad reputation, yet I enjoyed the game a lot, and was positively surprised by how much I liked it.

Before I go on, two disclaimers: I am a fan of the AC franchise, have played all titles, and am now in the process of playing through all of them in chronological order. So before I even got to III, I did play through AC, ACII, Brotherhood, and Revelations.

Disclaimer 2: I have not had any issues with uplay. I am able to start and play all Ubisoft games I own (mostly AC-titles) through it, and the client works. I run it as an admin and have allowed my firewall to let uplay access the net. The ONLY problem I had was that for a few days now, uplay would lose connection to the server. Which isnt really a problem though, as I can still start the games, and savegames and stuff is saved locally, and once you get to connect again, will be updated online.

Now, lets get to the game. It brought a lot of nice changes to the franchise. To me, what stood out most were the changes to combat and freerunning. Freerun now feels a bit more "controlled", smoother and "safer". It seems to be more "intelligent", even though ofc you still will have a few accidents =) However, I felt much more in control during chases and travelling than I did with older AC games.

Disadvantage: Freerunning through forests doesnt feel as...immersive or fun as doing that in a town like Florence, Rome or Constantinople. I found it hard sometimes to see the actual "routes" through the trees, and in town, Ubisoft seems to have wanted to discourage being on roofs 90% of the time, as there are a lot of guards up there who will attack quickly. So in ACIII, I spent a LOT of time on the ground.

COmbat is harder at first, especially if you were used to the fighting-style of older games. However, once you get the hang of it, it gets much easier, and it still is possible to take on big groups of mobs. Whats important is: You NEED to block a lot. Whenever the indicator (red triangle) comes up, hit your circle-key (I played this, like all other ACs, with an Xbox controller for PC), hold that button and decide how to counter after blocking.

You need to learn which counter works for which mob. The axe-wielding stronger mobs will hurt you if you try to counterkill, so you need to disarm. Basic mobs can easily be counter-killed. The grey-red-dressed british soldiers (strong) can be counter-killed too.
No health-potions here. YOu are stuck with the health you get at the beginning, and at first, it was a turn-off, but becomes much more fun.

Weapon wise, the bow is added, plus the rope-dart. The latter has a cool mechanic, where you can drop enemies to the floor to execute them, or hang animals. Still, I didnt use this too much, but used the bow a lot...its ACIIIs crossbow, for silent, ranged kills.
Stealth works... ok. Its not always easy to see where to stealth, but both hiding in towns and the forest works, and I did like this mechanism, sneaking up on victims.

The township you build doesnt provide you with a ton of cool upgrades or anything. Armor upgrades arent in game, and the weapons I found recipes for werent an upgrade either. You can fill your ammunition with crafted items, plus increase the amount of ammo (smoke bombs, arrows, poison darts etc).

What you CAN do though is earn a ton of money, and I recommend to work on that a bit, as you want to upgrade your ship. At first, the naval battles (which ARE fun!) felt forced into it, it didnt make much sense. However, you can lower the risk on routes for your naval convoys and later, you will do some ship-missions to progress the story, so getting upgrades is helpful.

I earned most money selling furs, both the ones I hunted for myself, and those my homestead huntress got for me. I bought them off of her and sold them via convoys, and once I had ship convoys, I easily made like 20-30K pounds every hour or so.
There are a lot of homestead missions, which can be distracting, but they are quick, and I liked the characters.
The Desmond-parts in the earlier game can be fun, but the end is horribly dragged out. TOo many cut-scenes, the lack of a UI (Desmond doesnt have one, of course) made it even more confusing, so even though the story of Desmond ends here, it wasnt a perfect ending.

    Altogether - 9/10

    Pros:
    - Great graphics
    - Cool story/missions
    - Nice updates to old mechanics, like the freerunning and combat
    - Naval battles
    - I liked Haytham and COnnor
    - Nice to visit colonial NYC and Boston, and learn about stuff from the database
    - Some nice and creative writing (prison, the hanging etc.)
    Cons:
    - The ending =/ Way too dragged out.
    - Music was...ok. Nothing memorable, other than one of the main-themes being a total rip-off
    of "Requiem For A Dream"
    - Menu of the accounting book is too clunky to navigate a lot

There are still some glitches, but I noticed no game-breaking ones---the worst glitches were people randomly appearing or guards randomly falling, and these were very rare.

The load times now take from about a minute long (the Wii U version) to anywhere from three seconds to ten seconds max on the PC version. There's still just as much content as the other versions and it's just as engaging. It seems you'll never run out of things to do. From debunking myths like the Headless Horseman to exploring the maze-like underground sections of the towns to completing your hunting map by finding every animal in a certain area, this game is simply astounding in the amount of content it offers.

I wish I could give this game a 10, but as it's not a remake, you'd have to check out my Wii U review for details on my gripes. But this is easily the best version of Assassin's Creed III along with its sequel Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

But like previous games in the series, what makes it special, is that it digs deeper than simple recreation. It explores themes that resonate outside of the historical context. As Connor, the Native American star of the game, you hear the convincing words of the many assumed represent the wrong side of morality and must wonder, are the concepts of good and bad so absolute after all. Connor's dilemma is one of the past. In the present day series constant Desmond Miles plays his own role in history. His portions are even more flushed out than before, allowing him to exercise his assassin skills. The game draws parallel between his story and Connor's, and by the end forces you to consider an unpleasant truth about the nature of humanity. It takes time to reach that conclusion or indeed to see Assassin's Creed 3 at its best. The opening hours are unexpectedly slow. You discover that this is a different kind of Assassin's Creed. It's no less joyous once the stops are pooled out, but the game takes it's time to establish tone and back-story before it lets you loose. But, put an overall context, you will grow to appreciate that the game took it's time to establish its characters and to drop an early narrative surprise. Just what is different in Assassin's Creed 3? Well the parkour has changed for starters. The control scheme is simpler but allows Connor to bound from tree to tree just as brilliantly as he can scale walls and leap across roofs. It takes some time to get accustomed to the rhythm of tree jumping, which can be rather unpredictable. There are those slow moments to slow you down. You might not be positioned quite right or you can accidently leap into a leaf pile below. But when things come together it's a joy to soar through the forest canopy. You'll do some such sweeping around you're homestead. The homestead is about building. Building a village, building a future and building relationships. By performing related missions, you befriend crafts people, gatherers and more. All of whom might find a place on the homestead. In turn, they can craft items that you sell via caravan for profit. Meanwhile you watch you're passive land grow into a village of its own. The homestead focused facets are optional yet worth investigating. Out in the frontier, you can supplement you're store house by trapping or attacking wild animals and skinning them. There is rarely a pressing reason to go hunting but there's something enjoyably bizarre about perching on a tree branch and then assassinating a bunny rabbit from above. Hunting is more of a toy for tinkering with, then a fully developed mechanic unless, you grow deeply invested in the homestead's economy. The cities of Boston and New York are home to most of the action. Even outside of story missions there's plenty to do in the cities. Almost all of it wonderful. Ben Franklin's missing Almanac pages float in the skies giving you a reason to take the rooftops and prance about. Liberation missions have you rescuing town folks from British soldiers, among other tasks. Frontiersman tell tall tales and you follow their leads towards UFO's and Sasquatch. Such exploits put you in direct contact with guards and soldiers and combat has been tweaked. You counter by pressing the proper button when the indicator appears over an enemy's head and you no longer have to manage the lock-on mechanic. Battles are fluid and bloody, as Connor chops, slashes and summersaults about. Though as always, you can accuse combat of being especially difficult. There are chances to go stealthy too and Connor crouches automatically in tall grass and can even press against corners and peak around. There are some stealth inconsistencies though as well as some parkour troubles, especially when climbing cliffs. But the inconsistencies run deeper than these little inconveniences. There are minor glitches like animals running places against rocks. Bigger ones too like a creature clipping into a wall so you can't finish the mission. There's an error of sloppiness here that was kept a minimum in previous installments. Assassin's Creed 3's ambition offsets these issues to a great degree however. The expanses are vast and the atmosphere is palpable. In place of the golden aura of previous games is a more muted look in keeping with its muddy trails and rust combs. The presentation shines when Connor goes to sea as well. Side missions have you getting behind the helm of a ship and facing the tumultuous ocean. Sailing is fun and often tense and the visual details are marvelous. Capturing the controlled chaos of an eager crew hard at work. In the most exciting battles, ship positioning is key to success and you sometimes get to even get to board the ships you ram and battle with their crews. It's great stuff. The multiplayer first introduced in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood makes a return and with it the rising tensions and brutal release of assassinating other players while simultaneously avoiding the watchful eyes of your opponents. There are a number of modes which to exercise your skill but in most cases, the goal is to blend into the crowds and avoid your assassins even as you seek your own target. There's great satisfaction in pulling off a silent kill, though last satisfaction in perusing the game's progression system. You can purchase new skills and perks using in-game currency or you can use real money to do it. Given the huge array of gameplay and cosmetic upgrades it comes across as an uncomfortable cash grab. This scrappy sequel isn't content to rely on past accolades. It takes narrative chances, thematically meshing the past and the present so that each story is stronger for it. More importantly Assassin's Creed 3 embraces the adventurous spirit of American colonists and their quest for independence. Expand

Enough good words for the game.I know that the word "Assassin" doesn't stand for its literal meaning in the game, while the naval part is a bit robbing the place of the "basic" part:stealth and open combat in civilized land areas.Just like the tower defense part in Revelations,as a sole one,it's a good one.But in the other hand,it is better than that tower defense:the naval game doesn't disturb players' gaming fluency, and it gives the players opportunity to experience it when they are willing to.
Climbing becomes too much easier,as we can just hold a forward key on the keyboard or pad and just wait for Connor climbing up the cliff or a large house.
I've encountered some glitches, including the interaction flaw in the last part of the Infamy part of Washington DLCs and reported to UBI's support team and replied without absolute resolving. Some people suggest that manually editing or changing the files to correct it,which means to replay the Infamy story.I just waited until the new edition released and found that the glitch was still there, this reminds me those annoying glitches in Revelations got reported but still existing today.
I suspect that there are some designers who are homo in UBI and they used the games of AC series to express and hype their intention to get involved.
Doesn't sound like positive comment? But it is.It deserves the try.

Luckily, the AC3 seems to have been improved on this aspect. I had far less tough cases than in previous games. Well worth buying it on a 50% sale.

Sure half the game is a tutorial, sure Connor is a little bland as a character. But the upsides of this game includes; The amazing music, the amazing graphics, the tight gameplay(If at times a bit glitchy). The only things that really pissed me off during the game is that half the time you played as either a young Connor, or Haythem. Don't get my wrong, those parts were okay, but then again a grown up Connor is on the cover, not Haythem, nor a little Connor. From my count, it takes at least 3 hours to even see the games actual protagonist. But other than that. This game is fine, you should get it, now that its like, $20 dollars at Gamestop. Expand

The beginning of the game is very slow, but after a few hours it becomes very enjoyable. Another beef that I have with the game is that some side missions are a waste of time (e.g., listening to somebody's conversation) because you are not rewarded and/or the mission is just not fun. Despite all this, AC3 is a great game I have particularly enjoyed the never-seen-before naval missions!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely loved Assassin's Creed III and it's clearly my favourite from the series.
The story is thrilling and I especially liked protagonist Connor Kenway. Following from his childhood on helped building up a strong connection to him, his character shows a lot of depth. The other characters you interfere with also have quite touching stories, and yeah, I admit I shed a tear when our friend died.
Another great aspect about the game are the fantastic graphics. Take a black horse and ride deep into the forest in winter at night, look at the full moon, see your horse rear in front of the night sky it's just amazing. I'm not a fan of too-realistic-looking graphics, and AC III got it just right!
The game-play was also fantastic, Connor does have some awesome new skills and weapons. I played this on PC but with an X-Box controller by the way. The enemies were neither too hard nor to easy to beat, and there's no way you'll get tired of playing, there's just so much to explore. Especially the introduction of sea fights is pretty cool, though I personally was not a fan. My brother loved them, I was kind of annoyed, the controls and everything weren't all that great yet, AC IV is a huge difference to that.
Furthermore the game has a great soundtrack and it's just made with so much love, it hurts.

    I can only recommend!

Somebody thought it was cool to start a "AC3 hate bandwagon" and a lot of people decided to jump on. Most of the negatives scores actually have completely wrong information and/or nitpicks that don't hamper the game. People also seem to hate the new protagonist called Connor, for some inexplicable reason. They are obviously stuck in the past with love for Ezio (protagonist from the last THREE games, may I add) that they cant fathom a new hero having a different personality and morals, values, passions. They simply don't understand him. Some people have also been complaining about glitches, even though I only encountered a couple small ones (I.e. floating weapon) throughout the whole game (keep in mind no game is perfect and these are miniscule). All in all, the game left me wanting more of Connor even after I completed the game (which took me 20 hours or so including side missions and collectibles) and I cannot wait to see what Assassins Creed 4 has to offer come October 2013. The Voice acting and caracter design was very well made, despite Connor being a naïve bastard.the World was so beautiful and so close to home I have to give it a lot credit. The ennemies, not considering the cluncky combat system, were over the top. Some of them were ridicoulesly hard, but I don't mind that much.

The physics were kind of weird. At some point I fell from a cliff and didn't die. However, the graphics were a huge improvement and very realistic. My roomate walked in and thougt I was watching a goddamn movie! The soundtrack was perfectly chosen for this game. My hat off to all the artists!

However, the game was very buggy. I require a patch!

All and all, if you don't mind a few bugs and a douchebag main carachter, i would recommend you buy this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While this game is not the best installment of the Assassin's Creed series, it is a solid game. Boston and New York the two major cities feel alive. The frontier and homestead are very fun. But by far the best thing about the game is the sailing. But there are some negatives, some parts feel repetitive, you don't play Connor for hours, and Connor is my least favorite assassin. But i do think you should pick this game up. Expand

I picked up AC3 on a Steam sale ($12.00 USD). It's difficult to justify paying full price for an AC game just because they're released every year and, frankly, the last few iterations aren't as deep as AC2. That said, this is a good game and am enjoying it (especially for 12 dollars). There are some issues with it, but mostly they're out of AC3's hands. The Desmond Miles plot need to be ended, it was very poorly implemented to begin with and I'm not sure if Ubisoft thought out what they were trying to do with the character. The heart of the issue is that Desmond Miles is, basically, portrayed as a life drifter who is yanked from obscurity and thrust into significance by fate. He doesn't have to work to develop his skills, the Animus does it for him. So, it's basically the Harry Potter or Twilight plot themes that resonate with young adults, an audience composed mostly of people who haven't yet worked for anything or have any real world responsibilities or concerns. It's hard to sell this theme to the type of player who enjoys adult themes of revenge and justice. It's misplaced here and it should be ended or at least very severely downplayed. When AC3 shifts gears from colonial times to the modern plot line, the change is jarring and I can't help but laugh at the juxtaposition; Conner spends years planning and training, Desmond become an Assassin by sitting in a chair and playing through "memories". It's ridiculous, it makes me chuckle whenever Desmond scales and climbs objects when his body isn't even physically trained for it. The release schedule for AC games is too aggressive, they're all beginning to look and feel the same, despite some laudable efforts to change setting and mood between each title. At most, they should be released every 18 months; 12 months is too much. Beyond that, good game. I look forward to playing this November's AC4 NEXT year. Expand

As soon as I got into it I was saying to myself,"this could easily be a game in itself!". The fighting is as fluid as ever! So much fun to drop in on a group of redcoats and absolutely destroy them!My only issue with the game would have to be the climbing controls. Every once in a while you'll be climbing something and your player will suddenly jump left or right and fall, sometimes to his death. Can get a little frustrating sometimes. But with a little patience and practice, you can figure out all the quirks and work around them. The graphics are beautiful. I'm also running everything on ultra with supersampling on 8x. I definitely recommend a GTX 670 or higher for the full experience. I'm using an fx4170 quad core processor overclocked to 4.5 ghz, 8 gigs ram, and an EVGA GTX 680 SC. It handles this game wonderfully. For those of you complaining about it not being like the other games must not fully understand the series. The developers are trying to give us a new historic experience with each game. Biblical Jerusalem, Ancient Rome, and now The American Revolution. You should really stop comparing it to the older games, which were AMAZING also, and try to soak in the story. Death to the Templars!!! Expand

AC3 has a sublime atmoshpere, because of day/night cycles, weather effects and even changing seasons, along with amazing lighting and textures. I spent hours just running through the woods and cities, enjoying the atmosphere. The story is very engaging and they got the ending right this time, which wasn't always like that with AC games. Instead of a home building you get an entire home map that you build up throughout the game and it really helps with creating a connection to all the NPCs. The naval missions are amazing, too, it almost feels like playing an AC4 preview at times.

There are negative things: The menus, especially inventory and trade, are very unorganized and difficult to navigate. The game also still has quite a lot of little bugs (map icons disappear after tabbing to Windows, some rare graphic glitches and game hangups) and I can only imagine how bad it must have been a year ago. Some bugs are definitely to be expected in such a complex game, I just think they should put more resources both into polishing the game before the release and fixing it afterwards, because some of the bugs I've seen shouldn't be there one year after the release. Luckily, none of it affected the gameplay at all and it was just a slight distraction.

After all, AC3 is an absolutely amazing game.

Now, the "crowd tech". One of the biggest faults of the game. People DISAPPEARING when you're getting closer to them. They just spontaneously appear or disappear on from on your eyes. In the beginning, it's actually quite disturbing. Not to mention the performance penalty of the tech. It's busted. It's not even as good as AC1. The game is aware of quad-cores at least I guess, it's even maxing them out, but it's not USING them properly.

Next, movement. I don't know what everybody says, but parkouring has been perfected in AC3. Running is a delight. The animations are the best yet. The game mostly flows. From a control point, I find AC3 near perfect. There are times, in trees mostly, when Connor does not want at first to jump sideways and instead tried to wall climb. But that's mostly it.

The story is the flawed. Actually, let me tell you this. The last 4th of the story DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. In about chapter 10, Connor will find something that SHOULD completely change his motivations and what he fights for. It does not, and it will drive you insane, if you pick up on it. It will not be said directly, but be heavily alluded to. You WILL KNOW when you'll see/hear it.
    - Also, all of Connor's development, all of it, happens IN-BETWEEN sequences. You'll see "months later. weeks later". All of the supposed traits Connor develops are not shown. So because of this, Connor acts either the same as when he was a teenager or just acts out weird out of the blue. You won't EVER really know what Connor fights for. Actually, there is only one general idea. Of revenge. But even that got thrown out of the picture in sequence 10, or it should've been, because nothing different happens. It is TERRIBLE WRITING.
    - The best parts of the story are I don't know, Haytham's parts. Whenever he's in the scene, he steals it.
    - For the majority of the game though the story won't make sense. Things don't flow together. They don't stick. It's cutscene after cutscene of mostly nonsense. But they're well made, that's for sure.

Side-missions. What side-missions? The only side-missions fun to do are the Homestead missions, which take a big proportion of the game though, to be honest. They're fun and well intended, but are not to the same quality as the story missions. Why? They could've easily been. The characters are stiff, not as neatly animated and just lacking in a broader array of emotions. The missions themselves are fun at least.
    - everything not related to Homestead missions is just a checklist. There are some fun brawls but that's pretty much it. Literally everything else is MMO style grinding: Kill 10 stuffs of this. Kill other 10 stuffs of this while doing that. Kill 20 stuffs of this while doing the other. Dear god.
    - Naval Warfare is awesome, you know this. Pretty much the best thing in the game, besides the normal on-foot combat.
    - The Captain's Treasure side-quest is also VERY good. It's got a solid feel of the tombs sections from the previous games.

Other things: Graphics are great. Best animation yet in any AC and in any game, period. Face expressions in cutscenes are mostly great. The snow is a marvel when it doesn't destroy your framerate. The running animation is the best animation ever seen in video-gaming. The combat is really bun. Totally different than previous games (about time). Almost every enemy can and WILL counter a specific move or weapon, but are vulnerable to something else. So try and experiment.
    - also, you know the drill. Different kill moves and animation for every tipe of weapon. Fists, swords, clubs, two-handed weapons, hidden-blade, the knives & tomahawks (they weirdly share the same moves)
    - also, completely AWESOME different for most types of weapons (including muskets) DOUBLE and TRIPLE kill finishers. OH DEAR LORD they are superb.
    - the Economic System is BROKEN. There is no money flow in the game. You can buy colors for your hoody, weapons, munitions and different stuff for you Manor Crafting. The thing is, you mostly get you buy stuff to do check-list side-missions (boring) or to craft upgrades, weapons and guns. The best weapons are craftable (but improved stats DO NOT make any difference). Also it's really really difficult to figure out how the whole manor crafting thing works. There's no tutorial for it. You just have to figure out for yourself or/and to check out online.

    Conclusion:
    - there are many more things to be said about the game. AC3 should've been Desmond's story and Connor should've been a more interesting character.
    - the ending was too meta for its own good. The AC series didn't deserve it. Especially after the masterful AC1 and AC2.

I definitely enjoy playing this game. It's very familiar and practically unchanged from the previous instalment. I think this series is becoming more like the Call of Duty series with its cookie cutter linear, and repetitive storyline and gameplay. It was sad to leave Renaissance Italy, and personally I find the New World is not near the excitement as Florence or Rome.

The characters really resonated with me. Getting to see Connor grow up gave him more depth and made me sympathize with him more. I loved the setting which takes place around the time of the Revolutionary War and deals with the conflicts between Britain and the American colonies as well as the conflicts between European settlers and Native Americans. Such a rich period in history and the way they handled it was very well done.

The traversal mechanics are another area that has been improved a lot. Now you can climb trees and rocky cliffs. Being able to move like this through forests and other outdoor environments really brought the game to the next level. Assassinating someone by jumping off a branch above them never gets old.

I love the variety of things you do in this game as well. The hunting was a lot of fun and the naval combat was thrilling and a true highlight of the game.

All in all Assassin's Creed 3 was one of the better games I have played in the past year. I recommend it to any fans of the series or anybody that enjoys action or stealth games.

If you fail at climbing trees, then it's your damn fault if you suck at it, not the game's.

You have to be tactical and work on your skills to clear forts and camps without being detected, if you think it will happen by itself just because you've played other AC games, then think twice I had trouble with this stuff at first but once you figure it out, it's awesome. You have to play the game and learn to do it right.

Most of the bad critics I read about this game honestly sound totally dumb to me, I think many players don't get it or got frustrated because they're not used to it like they got used to AC2 or ACB. I read "For Europeans, birth of the United States is not really very interesting time nor environment" how can you be so self centered I'm not american, and you don't have to be american to be hooked by the story and the historical context open up !

What annoys me in this game is horseback riding, I find myself sometimes stuck on rocks or between trees, gotta be careful.

To sum up I spent like 70 hours in AC3 so far and i'm really enjoying my time with it. Gamers here that about gameplay are the same players that about dark souls simply because they can't get around with it. L2P
