A disappointing follow up to a decent game. Ash of Gods went from tactical RPG to a soulless card game with terrible writing and a terrible story. It would be one thing if there was at least some originality to it but 90% of the artwork is literally just copied and pasted from the first game without any of the context. It’s just… very bad…

Ash of Gods: The Way is a solid strategic deckbuilder; its strength very much lies in its ability to generate a puzzle-solving feel through a straightforward base ruleset and a wide variety of combat scenarios and conditions. While it ultimately may not last too long in the memory after the fact, the time spent with it is enjoyable and it makes for a pleasing mental workout.

It seems that the producers decided to take a different path instead of making a sequel to Ash of Gods: Redemption. As a result, a nice hybrid of card game and turn-based strategy emerged.

Ash of Gods: The Way from developer AurumDust sets a new standard with how deck-building games should be made. It has the core structure that makes the deck-building fun and familiar, while also adding a thoughtful narrative and a variety of gameplay structures to keep the game engaging and entertaining.
