I think these reviewers are creating an unfair, poor image of the game on metacritic. Yes, the queues are unbearable and show a lack of competence from the company regarding the interest their game would receive, but the *GAME* is good.

The *GAME* itself, once you make it through the insanely long queue, is amazing. As a 17-year veteran of Mmorpgs, I can honestly say that this is the freshest experience I've had in many years. I get the giddy old-school vibe I received from DAOC. The world is highly interactive and feels like you're a citizen in a virtual world, not just a human behind a computer screen. I haven't made it too crazy-far yet, but I really like what I see.

I am giving this game a 10-star review to try to help counteract the immature 0 star reviews. My honest feeling so far, based on quality of gaming experience, is a solid 8.5/10.

Absolutely terrible release, they constantly cater to the NA servers (which are still suffering horribly) and leave the EU servers to ROT. Their newest 'fix' increased all NA server populations by 20%, and they only increased 1 EU server by 10%...why. We are all sat in 5-10 hour queues here, surely this warrants more capacity on ALL servers.

Game itself is good, whats ruining it is Trion. Long queues, REALLY CRAPPY (never seem worst) customer service. Contact with any staff member almost impossible.
It's just sad how PUBLISHER can ruin great game. XL Games should actually do something about, because their product being just simply fu**ed up ;)

Terrible communication by their "Senior" Community Manager, Trion's CEO does a better job than he. The queues are horrendous and once you do get in-game, they are unstable and often disconnect you.

It is not a F2P game but a monthly subscription, it seems correct punctuation low for misleading people.

I paid $50 for a founder pack and after almost a week have played a total of 10 minutes. The queue is usually 3 hours long and I cannot play the game. I obviously am excited about the game, but the fact that I can't play the game means you get a bad score.

I also made an account just to comment on this game. I'll start with the cons.

The single valid point that some of the low scores are making is that there is a pay2play advantage. This advantage is not nearly as strong as they say though. You can easily become highly profitable as a f2p player, if you're willing to put in time to do so. Seeing as this is an mmorpg I'm assuming putting time in is something you plan to do, otherwise, don't play an mmorpg and expect to be successful economically.

That is the only con in my opinion. It is a rather small con to me as well.

The queue complainers seem to have not been around for the release of a large budget mmo before so in my eyes their opinion can sort of be disregarded. Queues are to be expected at certain times of the day until players settle in to the game. Queues will dwindle down, they always do. Its launch week guys, come on.

With all of that said, this is the best mmorpg I've seen released in year. I'm a big mmo fan, played all the popular titles and I'd say most of the underground ones. This is the first mmo to give me the wonder and urge to play as UO and vanilla-BC wow. Aside from the farming/housing and naval warfare, this game makes me feel like I'm playing a shinier vanilla wow. Take that as you will. Some may say its bad. It may be exactly what others are looking for. If it is, give this game a go and see for yourself.

The game itself has some great features, but unfortunately I am not able to enjoy them. The queues are way too long and also it gets quite expensive if you want to get anything done at all in the long run. Also, I can't build a house because all the land is gone. This is not what I paid for and I will go to great lengths to get a refund!

Let's disregard the issues with the server (queue) and the engine issues (vga overheating, no fps cap and similar things). These will be fixed over time thats okay.

-Found two nice features only: Mount as pet and glider. Good ideas but that doesn't mean you should feel that the game itself is full of good ideas.
    CONS:
-The game (lore) is very blant. The story and race lore and the world is nothing new, not appealing at all.
-Questing is terribly primitive. You played such go to x-y-z and pick up 5-10-15 items in early 2000. Linear, unimpressive.
-Lacking movement and controll fluidity. This is hard to explain but after some time of play the animation and movement speed and the combat phases aren't drawing you into the game at all. You still feel that you sit outside of the game, pushing buttons one after another.

I can't comprehend how companies can release such game in 2014. And I can't even comprehend why people hype over such a really simple game. Very weak attempt. Go, check it out but don't spend money on it! You'll see what I mean!

Another boring p2w mmorpg. I have played it for two days, I made 25lvl and I quited because I was so bored with this game. If you are f2p player you are restricted in almost everything. You wont have "labor" to even open coin purses, so you can only dream of crafting/gathering.
    Avoid at all cost.

At the moment, the game is unplayable due to the Queues.

It may be a great game one day, but you can't review on potential. You have to review what's in front of you, and what's in front of me is an almost 3 hour wait to get into the game.

ArcheAge is truly an impressive game in its scope. It is possible to make the game what you will. In fact, it is entirely possible to just stop questing at around level 30 and live and prosper as a crafter.. spend the rest of your days tending your crops and livestock with the occasional foray into the wilds to gather materials. Or, do away with the chivalrous main quest.. join up with a pirate gang and turn against the world – including your own faction. How about buy a big boat and work as a ferryman, shipping players across the open seas for gold? All this is possible.

It's this flexibility that gives ArcheAge a significant edge over the current offering of AAA MMOs. Of course, there are quest hubs and a main story but it quickly becomes apparent that the world is a big place brimming with opportunities. What lies on that distant shore you can spot on the horizon? What kind of adventures await over the hazy blue mountains to the northeast? There is absolutely nothing stopping you from gathering a few supplies and adventuring off to find out.

On that topic, the feeling of an open, expansive world is accentuated by the fact the world is entirely seamless. You can travel by foot/hoof/paw/boat or glider from one end of the world to the other without being presented with a single loading screen. This harks back to the MMOs of old, and it is truly appreciated that this seemingly lost art has returned here. Forget the heavy instancing in games like Elder Scrolls Online or SWTOR.

The gliders are truly a brilliant spark, too. Having a finite flight-time combats the issues that are usually caused by flying mounts. The need to find a lofty take-off point and then carefully manage your flight path makes flying a considered act and not just a mindless WASD manoeuvre..

But sadly, all these amazing features don’t diminish a few glaring negatives. The core of the game, arguably the most important feature, combat, is archaic. Fighting is an old-school tab-target cooldown affair. Pretty much think WoW with the ability to stack combos based on different skill effects. It is mostly static and lacks the dynamic, visceral nature of other recent MMOs such as WildStar or Tera. Add to that a generous helping of lag and combat is basically a ho-hum interference between the start, and the end of your quest. To be fair though, most skills have satisfying effects and feedback, but the very nature of the combat in ArcheAge has seen better days.

The bland combat isn’t helped by the constant mob tagging. I have waited for up to 30 mins to kill a single quest boss with 20 other players standing around all desperately trying to get a kill. With some classes having a 2-3 second cast time on basic attacks, it can be virtually impossible to kill certain mobs until the other players move on. Some players are willing to group up, but most inexplicably are not. The lack of smart tagging seems to be yet another rustic theme from MMOs of old. But then, if the combat isn’t your thing – then that’s fine. As mentioned already, a non-combat (or at least very minimal) existence is entirely viable.

ArcheAge allows you to build houses and farms in a host of pre-defined locations. There are entire districts reserved for housing, but also many hidden locations well off the beaten path. Each plot restricts houses to be of a certain size – which I feel is unfortunate. If I pay the tax on a piece of land, I believe I should be able to build whatever I please on it. House designs are bought either from the instanced Mirage Island which is like an island-based shopping mall or from other players on the auction houses. You pay a healthy tax on your property, and if you miss your payments, you lose your plot and all things placed on it will be mailed back to you. Of course, you are welcome to try and grow a farm anywhere in the world, but anything you grow outside of your reserved space is pretty much free-for-all – so hide it well!

Graphically ArcheAge suffers from inconsistency. There are certain views that are drop-dead goregeous as the CryEngine is capable of. But then there are locations that have had the arm completely rolled over and are almost totally devoid of anything. Character models, gear and mounts are generally very high quality though, and the rich character creator enables a great many options for customization (facial features only).

Add to all this a proper player-run economy, justice system for naughty players. A healthy selection of classes that can be combined and you do have a compelling and feature-filled MMO. Give it some time for expansion and polish and ArcheAge could truly grow into something amazing.

Pros: Seamless world, non-linear gameplay options, Housing, Graphics (mostly), Gliders, Variety

Cons: Lag, DX11 issues, Dated combat, Forgettable characters, Lack of housing space, Tagging

This is wrong, Everything you can get in the Marketplace is obtainable in the game for free if you choose to get it.

Either way! Let start! Why do I give the game a 9.

    1. I'm not rating the game on how the launch is going, cause as most mmo veterans know, 99% of all launches will be horrible, people will scream for compensation etc. Only thing I wish was allot better was Scapes, his doing a Really bad Community manager job, his not posting any info to us for like 8-12 hours apart, and we have 0 info on whats going to happen in the future.

2.The game it self, is Incredible. Why is it Incredible? well the graphics , when you enter the game for the first time, you will see huge mountains, lush fields, and mind blowing lighting from the Cryengine 3 Archeage is running.
The flow of the game is incredible.

    3. The questing. The quests in AA isn't anything special, the story quests ends suddenly at level 28-31 and your left to complete non story quests. But there are quests to take you all the way to max level. Pretty easy and can be done in 30-50 hours , depending on your play style and hardcoreness.

4.Sandbox, well what is a sandbox? Well I define a sandbox game as giving me the options to do what I please at any level and can still have fun. This is the part that makes Archeage stand out from the other mmos. Lets say at level 12, you want to look at crafting and farming? well just do it, Place your farm(you need to be a paying costumer), or be a risk taker and plant a secret farm and see if your able to collect on it! You can build a house at level 12, you can build a boat! you can craft armor sets , or any other craft able item as long as you take your time and skill it up.

You can run around for hours, exploring the mountains, trying to find peoples secret farms, and steal it from them! you can try to swim out in the ocean and island jump and try to find treasures on the ocean floor!. The game gives you All the choices in the world.

5.Paying costumer, for Farms / houses etc. Well as XLgames (the developer) has stated, that owning land is not supposed to be for everyone. That means there are a limited places to put down your farms and houses. That opens for a Rel-estate selling etc driving the economy. That basically means if F2p players would have the chance to plant there wouldn't be a single spot left. EVEN THO, Trion/XLgames screwed up big time on the launch not restricting every account to 1 house only the first week or so. so most plots are taken, there are more plots available just not in the ocean zones ;P

The game over all is good, people who cry about Pay 2 win etc, have most likely just read what other people has said, or they just don't pay money to play games that costs ALLOT of make. The cash shop does not give a single advantage and well they are pretty much just trolling, and mad About the QUE.

Give AA 2-3 more weeks and the dust has settled and all the crying spoiled kids has moved to another game.

SO a Sum up! IF you like huge games, with massive pvp battles, farming, 120 class etc, Go give AA a try, play it for free, and if you like it, and plan to stick with it, go subscribe, then you can play the game to its fullest!

    Hope this helpes!

    The bad:
    Dam near every thing else.
Crafting is made in to new kinda hell with things you can turn a profit on the items that make the item sell for more.
Quest are boring and on rails.
You can go anyplace in the world but you will be killed if your not at a good lev for being there.
To even fish you need a pole and bait you must buy them or craft and grow them and be a lev in growing and have land to do that.
You need land or gold to get anything and you need to pay for that.
The 120 class is a joke most are sooooo close to one another it will not mater and only a few are the "best" and the ones you will want to run in pvp.
The pvp is bad like why even have it bad. People are saying this is hardcore pvp. It is not. Die pop back up and fight some more. You lose almost nothing and gain almost nothing.
The game stutters fore seems like no reason.
    More gank than pvp.
forced pvp if you want do all the main quests.

And there is much more bad with the game but I can forgive all that.

What is driving people away is Trion. Too few too crappy servers log in times in the Hr. not a joke pay $150 and you can play in 1hr or 2 or 3 you get the idea. The preopen was one of the worst opens of any MMO I have been in in the last 15 years not the worst as some say but not to good. Sold founders starter packs for $150 then did not send them all out but sold new packs to people that are much much better and that was in a few days. What will they do in 90 days when the founders cash drys up? The land you need to farm, one of the big selling points of the game and some thing that is almost need to craft gone in 1Hr. of start. Good luck getting any unless you hit up a gold seller or the cash shop. Oh yes there are bots gold spammers and hacks running nuts in the game. Then there are the fan boys telling you every thing is grate when it sucks feels like talking to Trion. Ever try talking to some one who thinks they know every thing but is clueless about what you are talking about? That is Trion customer support. That and nailing you junk to a table are about as much fun.

But you can try it free and have a grate time for 30 days or so. Not worth the time or money to me. ESO is better to bad there is no glider.

End result, our entire strategy was flushed down the toilet, because by the time we got in the lucky few who were able to get in and the luck few who got multiple founder awards from the bug had grabbed almost all the good spots and we were left scavenging for leftovers. Naturally, the guild was unable to get our farms/houses together like we had planned. The biggest defense they have with not adding more servers that I see other players give out is "But in two weeks, you'd have a ton of vacant servers". In this day and age, merges are easy, and so is spinning up a server if you're virtual (and if you're not, you're behind the curve). For a seasoned company like trion to have issues like this along with the obvious P2W aspect of housing only seems to point that they don't care about this game, nor are they going to be responsive.

There are no houses or farms available, therefore the average person can not really craft or farm anything, the market will be filled with the products made by the few people and guilds that were lucky enough to log in and get their founders packs....along with the few who got far more than they should.

Not only did the founders pack s not arrive but, they have also restricted them to just 6 so, if you delete a character for any reason, you will not receive a new pack. Why was this not told to players before hand? I have never seen such a thing before, I find the whole thing ridiculous.

The founders pack I was not given for some time now seems worthless compared to the new packs which have far more useful stuff in them. This feels like a complete lack of loyalty on Trion's behalf and a great big slap across my face. I have completely lost trust in this company.

The very fact I paid for a founder's pack yet spent more time trying to log in, or re-logging in, than actually getting to play is yet another big slap in my face. What is even worse is now the free players get potions and goodies to help them level fast and even a chance to get the house I couldn't, while I still wait to log in.
There is a complete lack of voice from Trion, with regard to creating new servers or any chance of lessening the unreasonable ques we all have to suffer, from one extent to another. I don't like to pay to wait and I certainly refuse to pay at all any longer. When my months are over, there is no chance I will be subbing, for there is no point, since the only reason to sub seems to be to own property, and I have none now and no chance of getting any.

My whole experience so far feels tainted, my opinion of Trion is that they are criminal. they made many promises but failed to fulfill those obligations, yet off no solution, only a big middle finger to those that they scammed.

I read some rave reviews about this game and saw it praised as a great sandbox mmo. The reality is much different.

The first 20-30 levels of the game involves just questing through a typical mmo quest hub system. Nothing particularly bad or good about it. Just mundane. Combat is nothing to write home about, monsters have typical dumb mmo AI. Graphics are OK but not great.

The much vaunted crafting/gathering/farming system requires a huge grind and is limited by the "LP system". LP starts at zero and regenerates very slowly over time, especially for f2p players. You need these LP (labor points) basically to do anything other than fight or move your toon. And these LP are extremely limited. I found crafting even in non-crafting focused games like ESO to be much more rewarding/fun, and of course a game like minecraft or landmark blows it out of the water.

F2p players also cannot own land, which places them at a significant disadvantage, and locks them out of a key element of the game.

It is supposedly a pvp focused game, but pvp is quite restricted, and implemented in a bad way in some cases. For example if you enter enemy faction territory you cannot attack that faction. However, the enemy can attack you. However, if you are in a group and only one person in your group is attacked in enemy territory, only that one player will be able to fight back. you will basically just have to watch your friends die one by one without being able to do anything about it.

What I have said here is only the tip of the ice-berg. There are numerous hidden systems like this in the game waiting to frustrate you.

This game had the potential to be the best MMO I ever played and I've played these types of games for 17 years since the days of Ultima Online. The pirate aspect is amazing and really gets your heart pumping like no other MMO I've ever seen. To spot the enemy approaching and knowing they are going to try and board you and take stuff you spent hours fabricating is what makes this so intense. The other positive aspect is running around the world looking for secret farms and then stealing from them...if you get caught and you eventually will, you are sent to court, and get this....the jury is real players! You get sentenced to jail if found guilty. My personal sentence after raiding several player owned illegal tree farms was 12 minutes in the brig. Classes are extremely fun and varied with over 100 different classes! Combat was fun as heck. So why won't I play this game? The developers suck! They urged us to buy a $150.00 founders pack months ago and then days before launch they give a much better $150 package as an option and long time supporters get screwed. Queues are usually 3000+ during primetime and over 5-8 hours long. I've been waiting 5 hours as we speak and still have 900 in front of me and I'm a paying patron. The developers decided that paying customers should be lumped together with those who don't support the game at all with their wallets. The cash store is exactly...IT IS PAY TO WIN...don't let anyone tell you different. You need labor points to do EVERYTHING in the game and they run out quickly. Want to craft? You need labor points. Want to farm? You need labor points. Want a house? Yada, yada, yada. You can use up your daily allotment of points in just one session of crafting and then you have to wait or buy some from the cash store. The primary means of income is from making packs and turning them in. You can only set a pack down safely in your player owned home and good luck with that. Safe homes were taken in the first few hours of the game and homes in PVP territory means you can lose your pack on the way there to another player 30 levels higher than you. So housing is a bust...the developers allowed some toons that managed to log on quickly to accumulate as many houses as they could as placeholders and the rest of the gaming community is screwed. Not the it matters...unless you're unemployed, I don't see you surviving the 7 hour queues....it's not like you can get things done quickly in game and there are only so many hours of playtime in a day. It sucks because housing plays such an integral part of making money in this game. You basically need to grow trees because wood is such a valuable commodity and you can only do that on your own farm or in a limited way on public farms which were filled to capacity from day one. The developers opened two more servers since yesterday and those are already hours long queued also. The bad thing is if you add too many servers, they become ghost towns when the hype goes away, especially when people get fed up and that is happening A LOT! Just read some archegae forums...99.9% negative maiing this one of the least succesfull launches in history from a players perspective, but quite successful for the developers as players purchased the $150 pack in great numbers with promises of a great playable game. It's not happening...we had months of beta and alpha to figure this out and the official launch was even worst than beta. Server merges will be impossible unless you want to lose your home which is what the majority of the player base wants out of this game and is a huge effort to build and maintain if you're building anything of quality. This game could have been great, but it's not. Maybe a few weeks down the road when all the unhappy players have gone on to greener pastures this game will be playable. If you can stomach the queues and play it for free, try it. Just don't use the cash shop or buy a patron package....it's just not worth it and the developers will screw you down the road. Use it as free to play game until the next hot game comes along because there are developers that can do much better overall. Expand

Inadequate beta testing period resulted in poorly tested and buggy servers. The game also suffers from ineffective communication from Trion about servers and bugs. This game could have been great in NA if it was properly tested and not shoved out the door. Due to the failures of the Publisher, Trion, I can not give the game a favorable review.

The real problem is you CAN'T buy the auction licence with gold... so you're totally gimped and excluded from the economy... tried shouting my goods for hours undercutting the auction house and no one was interested.

This game may not be pay to win but it surely is pay to play... at least a minimum... you can't have everything just playing... you can't even complete the scarecrow quest ffs. This + 5 hours queues and motivation to afk ingame is what breaks completely the experience and is what they should have changed to make it more appealing to a west audience. Maybe on korea a lot of people can't afk because they go to cafés but here we all have pcs... so give me a break and fix this **** refund all money or just scrap it all and re launch it.

Land ownership - Great anyone can own land start a freaken family system.
Labor bonus - Buy yourself some labor pots 3-4 Gold in AH ( thats dirt cheap you should have 400+ gold ____________at lvl 50 )
Increase max labor - you should never cap your labor in this game EVER.
Post auctions - Stops gold farming, buy a apex not to hard to do and buy AH powers.
10% bonus to experience gains - oooo a steroid that wont matter in 5-6 months when people are
    _________________________ are end game anyways.

Im giving this a 8 mostly because of how trion handles things. its not uncommon for them to be this way. we have seen this through rift. their server handling isnt the best. knowing that people were going to have 3+ hour login ques in open beta they should have done major upgrades to accommodate this unless they expect the game to die in the next 3-4 months which it will more then likely wont considering in Korea this games been public for almost 3 years.

the best way i have to describe this is a very PvP based economy and a pretty decent skill cap being that macros are not a thing. End game oriented until people hit end game things wont settle down. You will always have something to do.

    Building Gallions / Pearls
farming mats for buildings/ castles / boats / cars / gear ( best gear is crafted )
    trade runs
trying to gain land on the PVP continent with a guild
    large scale PvP
    Blood lusting
    pirating
    Arenas

The game may not have been launched in the US as well as everyone hoped but things will slowly get better.

That being said this game is very very group oriented dont expect to be able to win 1 v 2's or anything in end game. No classes are specifically better then the rest. they have tons of different comboing effects. if you're a solo player dont expect to get a gallion let alone be able to use one in PvP they take 12 + people to effectively use.

    Cons to this game

    long que times
about 1/8th of the community screaming " PAY TO WIN " because they cant just go make their own house and cry in it alone.

A monumental failure of a launch, from a company experienced with MMOs, and cash shop systems that scream 'we care more about your money than we do about you.' Obviously a business has to profit, but if they lose their customers then where does that leave them? Nowhere is where.

The time between head start and launch simply wasn't enough time to come up with and execute a suitable solution to the problems that they faced. What they needed to do was have a longer open beta with a larger gap between it and launch to sort themselves out. I was unable to play during open beta and I'm sure I wasn't the only one, they needed a longer period to get a more accurate figure of a likely player base and more time to react to that figure. Poor management on their part entirely.

I strongly recommend people to try the game in a few weeks/months when this fiasco has been rectified, in the meantime I can only advise you stay away unless you are determined and patient.

Queue times of up to 6 hours long to get into a server, crashes, terrible lag, broken subscription system, and absolutely no communication to either paid players or free to play players. They essentially tarnished XLGames' name with their management of the release. What makes this make interesting and worth the try is the features, of course if you were thinking of owning a house.. or a farm chances are you can't why? Well the game is very limited when it comes to land that's why the only people who can own property in the game are paying customers (patron status 15 bucks a month) that being said you can already assume that all the land in the game is gone, I was not kidding when I said the land was limited... about 30% of the patrons that got into the head start managed to get some land. So even if you become a patron..(15 bucks a month) there really won't be any benefit from it.

There will be farming available for free members in public farms but these farms are over populated even by patrons.. and they only protect your stuff for 24 hours, so planting anything that requires more than that (and everything pretty much does) well most likely be stolen.

A sandbox RPG where you can pretty much do anything you want from building houses, boats, trading to making your own little empire with friends and guilds and going to war with the big name factions of the game.

Gameplay : 8/10. Fluid controls, hit to connection is very good, typical of a PvP focused game. You pretty much have everything at your disposal as long as you're a paying customer. Farming, decorating your house you name it. It's really all about you in this game.

Story: 6/10. I did not find the about the character very good. I played a Harani, each race has it's own story to tell maybe I was just unlucky. The overall Lore of the game though would be rated at an 8-9/10, very indepth.

Music: 7/10. Okay I know some people might like the music too this game, but I came from FFXIV:ARR and the music there was absolutely amazing. In terms of adrenaline rush in pvp the music does get you pumping. Just not as much as fighting Titan in FFXIV.

Graphics: 9/10. Fantastic graphics, running the game doesn't take much of a machine and compliments high end machines as well. DX9 and DX11 support, the lighting in DX11 is mesmerizing. Also when you see the Ocean for the first time in the game truly is a beauty to behold. The Water Graphics in the game Rival a fully modded Skyrim in my opinion which is great in itself.

Replayability: 1/10. It's an MMO where one character can be anything you want. I don't see a reason to ever have to start over from the beginning unless you're twinking or making a bank alt so I'll add another rating for this.

Longevity: 10/10. It's a Sandbox MMO where you can do everything you want with one character and go anywhere you want pretty much. It's an experience that I think anyone with the patience to grind out will enjoy.

Overall: 8/10. This game is simply amazing, it has tons of potential and a bright future if the Devs play the cards right.

Now that I got the game out of the way I'd like to rate the Producers of this game for the EU and NA region: Trion.

Some of you might know Trion from Rift, I personally was playing WoW at the time and seeing the "You're not in Azeroth anymore" banners posted all over the web made me laugh sometimes. Rift had a relatively successful life, not nearly as long as it's acclaimed Rival World of Warcraft, but it was relatively successful for an MMO this day and age.

Now Rift aside I'll get to how poorly Trion has done with the Archeage Launch for the NA/EU region. Having no experience the the KR/RU versions of this game I don't have any clue if their launches were a mess or not because they have different Producers.

Let's get to the point, the Launch of this game was an utter mess. Launched with 8 servers for each region there was a back queue for about 4-5 hours. They released 1 additional server during launch and 1 server during the head start which was 4 days of queue timer for people that spent $50-$150 for the founders pack on the game.

I'm going to go ahead and tell the story from my experience. This company neglected all of their paying customers from the start of Head Start, went and blind sided the people that invested in them "founders" with more extravagant offers via the Starter packs and continues to try to sale on the Cash Shop when their subscriptions don't even give the people who paid for the benefits of being a subscriber.

Unfortunately, I fall under the category of someone who had paid for their service and haven't received it yet. It has been 24 hours from the review that I have received what I paid for and the company remains silent on the issue.

Their customer support is abysmal . 6-7 hour wait times in live chats. Tickets going unanswered for days at a time and hardly any clarification on what they're going to do about the issues with the current state of the game. When I did finally get to the Representative (they were very kind I'll give them that) they didn't know how to fix the issue and had to push my problem onto someone else.

Here's the rating I'd give Trion from an Archeage players perspective at this point.

Launch Management: 0/10, I was able to get in during easily on the new server, but they didn't let any of the newer F2P players download the game UNTIL an hour before the servers even went live. So if you didn't have fast internet you were destined to sit in queue for hours on end.

Customer support: 5/10, The only saving grace here was simply because the people are nice when they talk to you, which should be a common business practice in itself. They however had not nearly enough people on staff to help out with the volume of problems they were having. I didn't get out of my live chat until 10pm (PST) after initiating the queue 6-7 hours prior.

TL;DR. Archeage is a great game managed by terrible producers. Either the Producers get their act together or this wonderful game will fall in fire.

Looked really nice on paper. New cool sandbox features, rewarding player interaction and free economy.

Is probably OK in Korea. Does not live up to international standards. Full of game breaking bugs. Lots of standard features missing. The server problems at launch are just minor compared to the game design problems. Having the game available outside Korea seems like a spontaneous

TRION scammed everyone, making the game pay to win and not giving items people bought.

servers are broken, and the customer service is horrible.

TRION should not have gotten rights to this game, they are the worst company ever.

It is a great game, great world pvp and economy. the game has only been out for less than 24 hours and everyone is freaking out about the queue time. Hence the bad reviews. It is not pay to win in anyway...

I played in the Alpha, this game is worth the wait... and by wait i mean to wait for all the wanna win cry babies to leave and go find the next flavor of the month MMO and clear up

It is important to understand one thing: Archeage is a game by XLGames, which happened to be launched by Trion Worlds, Inc. for the NA/EU market. Archeage itself is an amazing game, without doubt. Therefore, critiquing it here on MetaCritic is somewhat of a misnomer, as it's very broadly labeling the game, not the company managing the localized launch.

That being said, the Trion launch has been an absolute disaster and a farce.

"All launches have problems", "QQ your tears are delicious", etc. is irrelevant. The problems that have been exhibited are huge, and the response has been completely vacant. They have not only failed to address urgent issues, but they have not reflected any desire nor attempt to solve them in the future. their failure to manage this launch, compounded by their immoral service practices is inexcusable, and would easily garner a 0 rating.

However, as previously mentioned, Archeage is a fantastic game, and itself would deserve a 10.

Best MMO sandbox in existence, the initial DDOS attacks on the head start made the servers down every 5 minutes which definitely hurt those who had paid for that extra time in-game but overall the recover made by trion was decent although lacking

This is one of the games that could of been great if it wasn't completely ruined by there lack of ability to actually handle the systems. The major changes that Trion has come up has in the end cost them the game for the majority of the player base once the hype is gone.

Servers collapsing, founders are not getting the stuff they paid for, there are people out there that for some reason have founders pack items/patron status they shouldn't have. There's a bug that makes your characters disappear at the character selection. 4k players 3'5h queues. And all that the Trion Staff cares about is about banning people who complains on the forums. Wow, that management...

Don't play this game with any expectation of owning a house or more than maybe an 8x8 farm. They have turned a major feature and selling point of the game into a scarcity and fiasco for everyone. Wait for Camelot Unchained.

As a founder who played in alpha, closed and open beta, and was there for both the headstart and launch I would like to give my opinion. I will split it into two, as this game deserves two different aspects:

The game itself - An amazing game with a lot of potential, and even now it has some qualities that might not be completely innovative for the genre, but the developer truly invested

The game itself - An amazing game with a lot of potential, and even now it has some qualities that might not be completely innovative for the genre, but the developer truly invested and gave it thought.
The graphics - Very well made for a MMO (especially a few years old, it is only newly published in EU and NA now). There are some quirks and glitches, especially when switching characters and the occasional choppy fps on heavier settings, but all in all I have very few complaints. 8/10

Sound - Nothing special, some background music that changes when you go into combat mode, sounds are quite nice and ok. Nothing fancy, but not lacking in my opinion. 8/10

Gameplay - The game itself does not have any "unique" new and unseen features, but it combines many that have not been combined before. The character progression is extremely varied and feels almost like a game by itself. You can choose 3 out of 10 skill sets, and then use skill points to unlock skills within them. You can easily change between the sets, and reset skill points to respec at any point you want. This leads to amazing flexibility, only limited by what items you have. That leaves you with amazing number of "classes" to go for, not all of them viable - but a lot are, and allows your creativity of what you REALLY want to play. The combat is very tradition target skill oriented, but nothing bad about it and it is done very smoothly (although if you lag you are at a disadvantage - but that is true for many MMO's).

End game - The PVE content is not as awesome or amazing as you might find in other MMO's, but the other aspects are great. You can decide you want to be a trader and utilize special haulers or ships, you can be a pirate, you can glide on your enemies as they approach your shores. What you can really do is truly only limited by your dedication and imagination.

That leads me to the sore spot that makes me give Archeage a low score - the publisher.
Trion was given (or they bought, it doesn't matter much) a game of vast potential that can only grow with further patches and good community - and they have made every mistake in the book. Hell, they probably invented new ones.

The alpha was quite good, the closed betas were also going fine (they are alpha and betas, so for testing purposes) and by the open beta it seemed like they mostly know what they are doing.
When head start happened there were crashes, lag, bugs, and the thing that ruined the whole appeal of the game - queue. As head start progressed so did the queue. After 3-4pm you had to wait at least 30 minutes, if you only logged later at rush hours it was at least 2 hours. Many, and me among them, could hardly play the game during head start.
At the end of the head start they released more servers (making the head start completely pointless), and then more on release (further mocking the founder community). As of today, after release, the queues stand on 2-4 hours, depending on server, during rush hours. On earlier times that used to be free of queue you still need to wait for 1 hour.

Another horrible aspect - the publisher - Trion, has been ignoring the community all this time. Barely any announcements, no forum discussions - nothing.

This, my fellow gamers, is an example of a very good MMO that will disappear very quickly, unless something will be done. The game in the current state is unplayable (unless you consider a 2-4 hour wait in the evening when you can actually play decent).
When the publisher will get a grip, or players will leave the game to the point where there are no queues, or tolerable ones, I will change my score. This is a 8.5-9/10 game that is dropped to 2-3 simply because of horrible management. If you want to play follow the state and join when you can play, you won't be disappointed.

I feel the majority of complaints come from people that paid the $50-150 to get into headstart and met long queue's cause everyone had the same idea, that and the fact they are not treated like gods in a f2p game for playing.

The quest line is good, the variety of class roles are endless and the farming/crafting/housing is new and unique, definitely a new addition to an mmo -- It's far to early to be giving reviews on games like this, wait a few more weeks..

What ArcheAge presents, past the horror of the chilling launch, is an open world full of opportunities and challenges as we have not seen for a too-long time demonstrating that the real MMORPG, those based on persistence and interaction, have not disappeared.
