Frustrating but compelling. The melee weapons all have different attack speeds and length and require you to be a certain distance in order to land an attack. If you are too far away you miss. If you are too close you miss. This certainly makes up for a great deal of the challenge (being to close to hit an enemy) and causes a lot of yelling things like "come on!" and "wtf? srsly?" The bow n arrow is aimed by your right analog stick but the aiming is so finnicky and will reset if you dont hold the stick at the same angle which also leads to yelling. But you know what? I really didn't die because of any of these things and I plyed to the end and enjoyed myself. The story is compelling, the art design is unique to say the least and beautiful to say the most, and the ending is damn satisfying. Expand

Apotheon is not a innovative game, they are selling you it like that but we have seen games like this in the past, the Super Metroid/Guacamelee gameplay is not new either, It is well known for us. Also the Pc port is really bad, it was not made for mouse and keyboard specially the changing-weapons mechanic.
In addition to that, In the Steam description of the game appears to accept all

In addition to that, In the Steam description of the game appears to accept all kind of USB game-pads, but that's not true because I tried it with 3 different game-pads (including one I specifically bought for it) and they didn't work.
Hey but it worked with the official ones, so they could changed that to "It works with the official gamepads AKA xbox/PSX).
    So what does Apotheon special?
Nothing though its Greek-pottery painting ambient, that is sure a thing to point out.

Had a good amount of fun with this Metroidvania. Nice art style, enough variety to keep you entertained and interested. Getting it for free on Playstation Plus was just gravy.

Hey, You Really would love this game if you are a RPG lover. The only bad thing I found in this game is that The whole gameplay is based on Mouse movements,It is hard to navigate using mouse.Anyway the Game is Nice.

The art style is gorgeous. I like the way combat works; the weapons make melee interesting (although I'm somewhat skeptical about aiming).

I didn't go far enought to judge the explorative part, but if you like melee combat (and action-oriented metroidvanias in general), you will like this game.

Apotheon looks beautiful, but it loses its charm in mere 15 minutes. The beauty can’t save the shoddy game design.

Excellent and original visuals, well-implemented metroidvania elements, interesting mythological concept story, fast paced, varied battle and intriguing boss fights form the main assets of APOTHEON.

Constantly beautiful and surprising, this is a great combination of platforming, combat and atmosphere. [April 2015, p.71]
