Apotheon looks beautiful, but it loses its charm in mere 15 minutes. The beauty can’t save the shoddy game design.

Excellent and original visuals, well-implemented metroidvania elements, interesting mythological concept story, fast paced, varied battle and intriguing boss fights form the main assets of APOTHEON.

Apotheon's visual style is absolutely gorgeous and the mythological elements are well integrated into both level and boss design. What keeps the game from ascending to Olympus is the somewhat flawed combat. [March 2015]

The biggest problem with Apotheon is that the game controls are far from ideal for a platformer. Otherwise it would be an excellent game with great visuals. [Issue#250]
  7. Apotheon is a unique advanture/ RPG/ Sidescroller game. Players can experience a glimpse of ancient Greek art and culture with Apotheon. God vs Men, you are a living a legend like Hercules and Perseus.

There’s nothing particularly new about the concept, but the realisation is very good. The controls could have used some extra work and the story might have been a bit more complex, but these are minor complaints in a game like this.

This little game is an insiders' tip and clearly worth the small price. A few real puzzles would have made the game even better.

Apotheon includes all the ingredients for a great adventure in a true metroidvania-spirit. The theme of Greek mythology is rare in games, still it fits pretty good. The controls and the game mechanics is sometimes a bit complicated but offers at the same time rich variety. Probably the best metroidvania this year.

Dig beneath the effortlessly stylish veneer of Apotheon though and it soon becomes clear that its impressive calibre bleeds through into its homage to the engrossing Castlevania and Metroid games pioneered back in the 8-bit days.

Sadly Apotheon’s gameplay can’t deliver what the wonderful art design promises. Although the mixture of RPG-, Metroidvania- and classic platformer elements are solid and definitely enjoyable, the controls are clunky, the exploration is hardly rewarding and the combat system – while tactical by nature – often dwindles down to button-mashing.

With a bit more polish Apotheon could have been truly worthy of Godhood, but as it is, this is one very flawed, very mortal game.

A metroidvania in full Guacamelee! style, it will please fans of the genre not just with interesting gameplay, but with a great and original visual style.

Incredible visuals and an epic, timeless soundtrack frame a rock solid Metroidvania styled adventure, that feels like the 2015 dream-child of the legendary Gods and Hippodrome games of yore. The controls may be a bit loose but this is one adventure that you simply cannot afford to miss.

God of War has finally found his 2D little brother. It's a fascinating title, with great art direction and a well-balanced gameplay.

One of the best Metroidvania games around, with some inspired visuals and great use of its Ancient Greek setting – despite some minor issues with the gameplay mechanics.

Apotheon is a solid metroidvania-style action platformer, with a great art style, an excellent level design and plenty of weapons and enemies. Some of the key elements of the gameplay may be questionable, tough.

Apotheon is a solid and great looking videogame. Perhaps it lacks in some areas such as platforming, but it’s a very funny action romp while it lasts.

I give Apotheon high praise for its homage to old-school side-scrolling adventures and its ability to recreate the captivating style of Ancient Greek art. Unfortunately, a ho-hum story and frustrating controls prevent me from doing the same for its moment-to-moment gameplay.

If it played just a little tighter, Apotheon would be brushing up against greatness. As it stands, it's stunning to look at and a pleasure to play, and what flaws it does have can be easily overlooked by anyone looking for something smart and stylish.

Apotheon is myth alive, it's a beautiful and wonderful indie game with very good ideas, music, characters... The ancient Greeks valued balance and harmony in their art and philosophy, and Alientrap Studios has got just that. Apotheosic.

The game more than backs up its aesthetic prowess with rewarding combat and exploration systems in place. While the combat hardly changes over the course of the adventure, Apotheon asks the player to apply their knowledge in such a wide variety of ways that it constantly feels fresh and exciting.

The action feels satisfying, combat is fun, and there are also a few nice surprises when it comes to gameplay, both as far as boss fights are concerned and in the presence of puzzles, particularly in the levels involving Athena, making the whole package even more attractive.

A combat-heavy, side-scrolling jaunt through the wonderfully unhinged realm of Ancient Greek mythology. Apotheon unites presentation and theme to tremendous effect through its stylised, Grecian pottery worlds.

Apotheon offers good balance of engaging story, platforming, fighting and puzzles all wrapped up in breathtaking art style inspired by Ancient Greek pottery. Despite the fact that it was developed by small studio, Apotheon has great production values including polished gameplay, amazing soundtrack and AAA quality of voice acting. Single player offers about 10 hours of gameplay and based on difficulty I dare to say that both hardcore and more casual player will be satisfied! Plus - You can still try to compete in multiplayer with your friends! Full Review »
