  1. Despite boasting a wholesome choice of 16 lead characters as well as spells, melee weapons and guns, in reality the combat element of the game is weak.

Apocalyptica may not accurately portray the end of the world but it does nothing to preserve the future of gaming as we know it. Let us hope this is not a sign.
  3. Terrible from top to bottom, suffering from bland, derivative gameplay, simplistic level design, brain-dead AI, and a buggy graphics engine that chugs even at low resolution.

Combat is largely devoid of any tactics, and the only interesting aspect of the fighting is a two-fisted system that lets you swing a sword with one hand and fire a gun with the other. [July 2004, p.68]
  5. Apocalyptica's lazy design and sheer lack of imagination is more than enough to ruin any chance it had of developing the relatively interesting premise. Forgive Konami, father, for they have sinned.

Just because of its simplistic gameplay, apparently poor storyline (come on guys, its goods versus evil here, saints versus demons, what more could you want?!?!?!) and, as some one once put it way back in 2003, a 'chuggy game engine' (works better on dual or quad core you know!). There are 4 classes of characters to choose from, each class has 4 warriors, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. But the overall game play is the same, albeit the missions have varying objectives (rescue colleagues, stop the chambers from flooding, save the fortress, etc). Now minor issues aside (no multiplayer connections/players, team mates getting stuck in places, enemies sound hilariously the same) the game has a very rocking sound track (i have the songs in my personal playlist you know!) the graphics are really sweet for a 2003/2004 game, and though being simplistic, the gameplay reminds you of games from yesterday. The game itself! It's .. well ... not finished? Or poorly designed from the beginning? The combat is a mess, no tactics, just sluggish clicking and hoping to hit someone. Sword combinations? Well, they may be implented, but not connected with the mouse input. Horrible! And the mission design is ... well ... ehrm ... read the Eurogamer Review. I gave up at this point, because there are WAY BETTER games to spend my time with. Stay away from this game, please! Full Review »

Built upon the skill of Konami, fast paced futuristic combat set in a World that resembles UT2004 but with character! Cut screens add to the polished aspect of the game. The few individuals that gave it a poor score probably never reached any of the levels where the game really shines! Konami always believed you have to earn it to see it! -Brian Full Review »
