first of all i really wanted to love Anthem.
this is what i experienced after 50 hours. 434 storm.
pros: - great graphics, even after the obvious downgrades. - feels good to shoot. - great music. cons: - boring story (i don't care about it personally, but i know some of you do) - terrible optimisation (dropping badly with i9-9700k + gtx 1080) - the control is just flat out

    - the control is just flat out bad. seriously.. anyone in the dev team tried e.g. swimming in this game?
    - the ui is abysmal. almost hard to navigate between menus... where is that ui rework they promised???
    - to track an objective's progress takes about 15-20 seconds to open the correct menu with this lazy console ui.
    - filled with huge amount of bugs. there's not a single play session in which i haven't encountered any bugs.
since the day 0 patch though, things are looking better. just stacked in the texture.. nvm.
    - end game issues, my biggest concern: what is the point of having better gear? why is there no ranking/leaderboard system? or a diablo greater rift like timed based dungeon/raid?
there is no incentive to have better gear. or the point of having good gear is that i can farm gm3 a little bit faster? it won't be enough in 2019.
    - many things (primer - detonator skills) are not even explained within the game? do i really have to get every info on reddit? please.
    - everything feels like a cheap console copy, we are treated like peasants but we are the master race. remember this.
    - loading screen simulator on an SSD.
    - gaining exp after max level for nothing… haven't you learned anything?

after the gossip that this is the last chance for BioWare to prove to EA, i'd be really concerned in Edmonton.

Anthem is not ready for market everyone told them but EA put out anther unfinished game. Theres potential here but its not the cash cow EA are looking for in this current state so there probally sack Bioware and abort this game. Quality seems impossible for EA when greed is the the driving force.

The narrative is a botched attempt at a traditional Bioware story, shoved inside a looter shooter. It fails dramatically pretty much immediately after the first cutscene. It's not that the voice acting is bad - because it really isn't - but the presentation of it means you don't care what is happening, ever.

This isn't helped by banal environments, which consists of forest ruin after forest ruin, non-stop, over and over again, interrupted by massive loading times. The game looks beautiful, but is boring to look at after an hour or so - that seems like a contradiction, but there's only so long you can look at the same pretty picture before you want to look at something different. Anthem provides no visual diversity.

As everyone suspected before launch, this is Destiny Lite. The core combat is the familiar bullet-sponge looter shooter the market is now flooded with, but Anthem is a terrible example of it because, again, the gameplay loop lacks diversity. You do the same thing, over and over again, and when the flight mechanics stop being fun, the whole game stops being fun.

I know people will say there's 'potential' here, but honestly this is a full price, AAA game that should be a lot better than this on release. We shouldn't be paying to be glorified Beta testers for DLC down the line.

Ultimately, Anthem feels like the game Bioware had to make rather than the one they wanted to make. The lack of soul in this title is resoundingly obvious.

The game has a lot of issues and flaws. It seems unfinished and disjointed. The story for example is mediocre at best, the characters are forgettable, the dialog is excruciatingly dull and boring. This does not feel like a Bioware game at all. It is extremely low on content, all the missions are exactly the same, and almost nothing is explained on this game.
I haven't even finished the story yet and I am bored. The only thing that is good in my opinion is the way the game looks. Everything else is mediocre or worse. The AI is the worst in my opinion - it is braindead. All they do is just run towards you or stay in one spot waiting to be shot...with their backs towards you.
I was very excited to play the game and it has been ta huge letdown. I cannot recommend buying this game as it is...it feels half way done.
I am not sure how it is possible that this game has been in development for 6 years. There is absolutely nothing of substance on it. Everything seems to be started and half way abandoned to start something else. Nothing really makes much sense, from the gaming mechanics, to combat, to story and beyond....it looks like 3-4 different studios developed different games and tried to slap them together.
The loading screens are terribly annoying and are everywhere. The game is a letdown and even the loot sucks and this is supposed to be a looter shooter. The grind is terribly boring and there are only 3 strongholds, one of which was in the demo, and the other is the end of the game. The difficulty is also messed up, rising it only gives the enemies more HP which makes them bullet spounges x1000. It is the laziest way to introduce difficulty. It is just a bad game at the moment. I am not sure that Bioware can save it- the game is deeply flawed and although has a solid base, the rest is terrible.

You'll find many reviews giving zeros or tens, and few in between, which is where I feel the game truly lies. Sadly, user reviews on metacritic are more representative of people's feelings, good or bad, rather than facts.

I'll do my best to provide an honest review of the game, by presenting both pros (+) and cons (-). + The gameplay mechanics are executed well for the most part.

I'll do my best to provide an honest review of the game, by presenting both pros (+) and cons (-).

+ The gameplay mechanics are executed well for the most part. Flying and shooting (to a lesser extent) feels great and satisfying.

+ The game is pretty, despite the graphical downgrade from the E3 trailer. Exploration during free roam is entertaining, slightly reminiscent of Xenoblade Chronicles X, with lots of verticality.

+ The plot is decent, albeit short, but doesn't come close to even a fraction of Bioware's true potential. I'm only presenting this as a pro since the game is a looter-shooter at heart and not a story-driven RPG.

+ There is a solid foundation and potential for growth, which is something a live-service game desperately needs.

Unfortunately, many of these positive aspects of Anthem are ruined by its flaws.

    - Level design renders the enjoyable flight mechanics pointless outside of free roam. Shooting becomes almost annoying and somewhat of a chore due to the excessive lightshows that obscure your vision, along with aimbotting enemies (who are also blatant bullet sponges).

    - The AI is rather dull, reducing enemies to mindless drones and the player to a mindless shooter. There is almost no need for tactics in this game. Anthem unfortunately also suffers from bugs, and a severe loading screen issue with frequent CTDs. The game is also badly optimized, barely running on high settings at a very unstable 50-60 FPS, on a GTX1070 and i7 CPU.

    - The graphical downgrade is nothing new to the gaming industry, but feels like a bait-and-switch nonetheless. However, the worst offense is the utter lifelessness of the game's hub area, Fort Tarsis. What appeared as a densely populated, living town in the trailer has been rendered a dead silent (literally), forced first-person, slow-paced and boring place to be. The NPCs are also lazily programmed to stand around while cycling poor animations.

    - For a looter-shooter, the loot is honestly rather disappointing. Both the actual loot and the looting mechanic. Don't epect to find unique items, since most are simply dull reskins with higher stats. Looting in Anthem is also a huge grindfest about three hours in and beyond, with missions always being one of two different types. Furthermore, as long as you play on the same difficulty level, all high-level items have the same odds of dropping regardless of activity.

    - The endgame is stale, which could be excused as the game is a live service. However, considering just how quickly you can reach the endgame, most people will find themselves at a halt with no incentive to keep playing.

    - Since this is an EA game, I feel I need to address the microtransactions as well. They're there, they're an obvious cashgrab, and you will feel a pull to buy them. Earning coin (the in-game currency), takes way too long. For instance, purchasing a skin for your javelin (mech) without spending real money will cost you 60000 coin, which is the equivalent to saving all the coin you earn from first playing the game until reaching the endgame. Meanwhile, the skins cost $6 with real money, which seems a bit steep.

As you can see, the cons are more numerous and more detailed than the pros. You may be wondering, why not rate it lower, then? My reasoning is that many of these issues can be fixed, and that Anthem still has the potential to be a great game. At the moment, however, I do not recommend to purchase it. Wait until a sale or until the most jarring issues have been fixed, as well as more content added.

All in all, the game is mediocre. It's not terrible, but far from amazing. At present, you're better off playing something else.

Outside of the flight mechanics and some breathtaking (although lacking in biodiversity) scenery, this game is a grindy, buggy mess in its current state.

Shame that after 6 years of development we can't even get a finished or inspired product from the once great Bioware.

    - Graphics are terrible, but this is to be expected because of the console market, where this game primary aims.

    - Game cannot be played in solo, so you are forced to play online with **** who afks through the whole mission.

Then you have the load times and oh dear god are they bad. even with a SSD you will be waiting almost a minute and my friend had a HDD and he said he was waiting a few minutes and that might be tolerable if there wasn't a TON of loading moments.

Performance is complete crap. It's not optimized well and stutters on my rig and I have a I7 6700k , 980 TI and 16GB Ram. I have no problem maxing any game out still with that set up and things running smoothly unless the game optimized like crap.

The story sucks, The NPC's in this game are annoying as all hell. The story is coma inducing and you just want to skip it and go back to the repetitive gameplay instead. which by the way all you do is go to point A kill some enemies go to point b kill more enemies then point C fight boss and repeat. There is a open world mode witch is dull as hell. The loot is also boring. I never felt excited getting any thing unlike say borderlands 1 and 2.

The world is also very empty. while it looks really nice graphically there is just nothing there. This game feels like its a Early access game. Like it could be some thing good in the future like in maybe 1.5-2 years or more. As it is now I personally wouldn't pay more then $5 for it and it will probably be $30 in a month and since it has MTX I wouldn't be surprised if it went F2P with in a year. I would not pay $60 for this for any reason.

There is a long list of problems:
    -A rush release which includes:
    -"Dead" hub.
-Cheesy and horrible dialogs made for political correctness.
    -A terribly average campaign
    -Boring grinding
-And boring missions often without sens.
-Load screens and load screens again

    -lack of diversity of surroundings.
-Awful fast endgame and poor difficulty changes

It is not a game made by BioWare. It is a game made by greedy ea. Which words you translate as a: "I like money!" every time when they talk about game experience, diversity etc. It is all about the maximum profit made by stupid decisions to please shareholders. There is no other explanation of how the game witch HUGE potential is ruined once again for short term benefits and "infinity" growth for shareholders. Neither of those issues can be fixed with time. The loading is baked into the game's engine and the combat is a similar story. It could be okay without these issues, but it doesn't do a good enough job of holding your interest overall. Plenty of games (perhaps most) have repetitive gameplay loops, but Anthem's miserably uninspired objectives, pathetic mission design, and, though beautiful, homogeneous environments just can't convince you that you're not just standing in a circle or bringing X object to Y place for hours on end. The combo system is somewhat interesting, and the gunplay is acceptable, if not a little underwhelming.

However, the game is just plain broken. Some of the design decisions are baffling, and the story is average at best. Some of the dialogue is great, but a majority of it is pretty cringe inducing. Worst of all, no matter what I try to do, even after the day one patch, the game just runs so terribly that I can't believe it shipped in this state. I don't have the best PC, but this is the first game I have ever encountered where my PC just can't even come close to handling it. I have constant frame rate drops from 60 fps to 1-3, every 10-30 seconds. It is unbearable. I've tried every tip and setting possible, and run on low settings, and it makes no different. Worst part is I can run on high/ultra and have the same fps as on low, which leads me to believe it probably isn't my PC.

Just can't recommend the game in this state, and it is a shame. It may someday be great, but it definitely is not right now. Even when I can play it without hiccups, which is rare, especially after the latest update, there just is not enough meat on the bones to overcome the negative aspects. With that said, I still do enjoy playing and will continue to login from time to time hoping for some improvements.

All the 10/10 reviews saying "it'll be fixed with patches" & "More content is coming soon" tells you everything you need to know.

They're charging for it NOW so it should be judged NOW. Personally I think this could be a great game, in about 18 months & 3 DLCs time and im more than happy to wait and pick up the "complete" game then (for half the price)

    Unfinished, boring, uninspired.

Bioware used to be known for their well written stories and dialogue. Now i will only remember them for creating the worst gaming experience ive ever had to endure. Literally nothing works in this game, it runs like garbage and every bit of gameplay gets interrupted with absurd loading times. Want to explore Freeroam? Loading Screen. Want to visit Fort Tarsis? Loading Screen. Want to explore a cave? Loading screen. Change Loot? You understand me.
Nothing really works and is buggy as hell, weapon affixes do not make any sense, every second quest you start is not working.
But its technical failures are not its biggest problems: The story is uninspired and poorly written. When its not super cringy, its boring. Its a looter shooter without loot. There are 10 unique weapon models and 4 armor skins per javelin, with two skins being locked behind a paywall. Thats it.
There is one map with only one biome - grass and ruins, so everything looks the same. I was super hyped for this game: "Looter Shooter with a bioware story, where you can fly like iron man? Awesome!" - that were my initial thoughts when the first reveal trailer was released. (Btw, that trailer alone is enough reason to hate bioware, as they were blatantly lying to their customers, since the actual game does not come close to the game they showcased there.) But when the game came out, i was so bored that i went to bed after a two hour long torture.
Everything feels like the game was started from scratch 6 months ago, not 6 years ago.

Nothing like advertised. No content. No proper story. No proper nothing. People are gonna ditch this game and bioware is gonna get ruined by EA.

One thing that won't be "fixed in future": the ABYSMAL story and characters.

Listen, bugs don't bother me much. SJWs don't bother me at all. Loot problems and gameplay problems only bother me a little. What I care about in a **** BIOWARE game: story, characters, lore, choices, consequences. And these things are awful in Anthem. Absolutely awful. If you're complaining about bugs

If you're complaining about bugs you're sending the wrong message. Youre saying that story matters less than bugs, in a Bioware game. It doesn't.

If you liked KOTOR or Jade Empire or Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age, don't buy this. I knew it would be like this, the very second they announced they were going online with it.

So, many years of development are done, and Anthem is finally here. Was it worth the wait?....The short answer, NO!

Worse still, is that this is the game that killed the excellent Mass Effect series. For those that don't know, Mass Effect Andromeda, the fourth game in the series and first of it's own story arch, was bumped to Bioware's B team for development, so that their A team could focus on Anthem. This resulted in a lackluster ME Andromeda, that ultimately ended the ME universe before the story was even finished.
It really wasn't worth it. Essentially Bio/EA murdered one of their strongest properties, all so they could jump on the multiplayer bandwagon. They jumped, missed the step, clung to the side of that wagon for half a mile, before falling off and being mangled by the wheels!

Anthem is boring.....VERY boring. We the players were also lied to, or at least misled a lot during the pre-release sneak peak phase of development. I'm sure we all remember seeing one of the pre release videos, showing pilots chat as they mounted into their Javelin suits, before seamlessly jumping off a cliff edge and flying into battle. Later we see one player find a cool new mortar, which he immediately equips and uses to devastating effect. "woohoo" I thought. This game looks awesome! This is what Destiny should have been!

What we got....Loading screens......LOT'S of loading screens. Not only loading screens, but really LOOOOONG loading screens.

Fort Tarsis, contrary to the pre-release hype, is a very separate LITTLE world. Leaving it requires jarring loading screens that take forever. Really, Tarsis is just a glorified menu screen where you select missions which you then load into. A menu screen that requires lot's of very slow walking from A to B to access different menus. This really kills the sense of an open world that seemed promised in the earlier trailers. It's also very small and dull. Lacking in vibrant life and sound.

This brings me nicely to the open world itself (once you finally load into it) It is sadly, also fairly boring. It looks amazing to be fair to the art department. They did an amazing job, but it is limited and very "samey". Likewise it is underpopulated and the enemies feel very repetitive.

The gun-play and combat mechanics all feel quite nice, as does the movement, but ultimately it's nothing new or exciting. Sure flying around like Iron Man is great, but it doesn't make a game on it's own and the novelty wears off fast.
The weapon drops also are dull. Mostly you will find the same few guns with pointless stat variations, and contrary to the trailers, you cannot just equip something new you find. You must return to Fort Boring...sorry, Tarsis in order to find out what dropped and to make any inventory changes. Which of course means more immersion breaking LONG load times.

There are also bugs, lot's of bugs. From broken collision, to total CTD. It's all a bit of a mess. You'd expect this from a rushed title, but this game has been in development for a very long time. I could even forgive the bugs to some degree, if the game had a ton of content that took up all that development time, but it just doesn't. It all feels empty.
This leads me to believe that either the whole project was mismanaged and lazily crafted, or they stripped the base game to it's bare bones so they could sell us the actual content in DLC form later on.

Ultimately I kind of hate this game. Not only did it hammer the coffin lid down my favourite game franchise, but it's also just a bad, repetitive, grindy game.

I know that EA titles often get a bad rap, purely because people hate EA, but this really isn't the case here. I've not played many EA games or had any issues with their games that I have played. I just really genuinely dislike this game. It's the biggest gaming disappointment I've had in years. possibly ever.

I won't be following Anthem any further.

Edit. Sadly some members of the community don't seem to understand how reviews work, or are artificially inflating reviews.
Saying "this game isn't perfect" Then scoring it a perfect 10/10 doesn't make any sense. And saying things like "I personally think this game is only a 5 or 6, but others are mean, so I gave it 10" is just plain idiotic and you are admitting that you are falsifying a review!
You will also see people claiming that the game is getting bad press because people don't like EA. TRUST ME, it's because it is a very poor game. Don't be suckered in. If it weren't for idiots and fan boys, the score would be even lower.

Anthem is the latest new looter shooter IP, but incredibly fails to learn any lessons that have been learned from Destiny and The Division. Anthem has an average story that lasts around 15 hours - which is disappointing coming from Bioware - and a severe lack of unique, or even interesting end game content.

Assets are constantly reused and there is not much content really. UI is annoying and unnecessary loading screens. Too many bugs at launch.

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
