i wrote a positive review but i am getting the 403 error when i want to post it.
just give this game a try yourself, dont listen to the negative reviews that are made because of the bad launch. the game itself is awesome especially the multiplayer.

I've played both Destiny 2 and Warframe and I would rather play this game than either of those two games. The story is good enough for establishing a setting. The characters are well made and I have enjoyed getting to know the characters in between missions. I love the abilities that the different suits (javelins) have, and I especially like how they can all fly. I'm sad that this game had such a poor launch. I think if it had done just a little bit better, Bioware could have continued to work on it and write a redemption story similar to No Man's Sky or Diablo 3. Expand

This has come to game pass now so there's probably a lot of people playing it, without buying it. It's an enjoyable, accessible game with a decent plot and fabulous graphics. I do understand that it could really do with some more development and it's a bit jarring that you need to explore it in single-player mode, but the combat is much better played with others so it's an odd combination. This has come to game pass now so there's probably a lot of people playing it, without buying it. A very good game, that never quite reached it's potential. Time for a sequel!

Sadly story, endgame and loot variety are not great and EA killed Anthem 2.0.
But the flying mechanic, even with its limitations, gives the game a 10 anyway!

The game had issues at launch but after content updates and bug fixes, the game is well worth whatever price you can get it for now. I have over 250 hours in the game and I swear you will be hard pressed to find another game with better combat mechanics. The game feels great but no further updates or content will be coming out.

Now that I have a mighty Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti Gaming OC, I loaded Anthem.

The game is beautiful (in most areas) especially the beginning waterfall and flying a javelin over it is a dream. Love the roaring burning sound of the javelin too.

The sad thing is the game stutters a lot, mostly its 60fps but in some areas it dips under 35fps. So I turned HBAO normal and Lightning High but still getting under 45fps in those areas. All else is maximum and DLSS is turned off. DLSS is too sharp and some effects go missing when turned on.

I am surprised for a game that uses only about 6GB or Vram for its Ultra textrures would dip under 35fps.

And only Vsync ON with Scanline sync -140 gives a smooth framerate on my TV. All else fails... I have tried everything I found on reddit. EVERYTHING.

This game engine really sucks. But so far I am having fun playing it as long as it does not dip under 45fps.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I heard the story EA & Bioware Exposed By Kotaku On Anthem, my heart goes out to the common employees who worked on Anthem, the stress that upper management of Bioware and Ea caused!

I would have rated this a lower score, but flying around covers a lot more area than if you are just walking or running on a map. The game-play of Anthem is sort of based on Iron Man flight power. If you are looking single-player game where you join action random people while playing the game this would be a good game to get especially since you can buy this game for $5.00. This is not co-op friendly game; gameplay is co-op but the other part is you have to go to Fort Tarsis to get a mission and advance your character abilities and that is only in a single player. I did try to play it co-op with my friends but when we were playing Finding Old Friends mission it would crash each time. After I did some investigating, my friends didn’t talk to the right people in Fort Tarsis because of that, their game character abilities didn’t advance correctly. This was the last straw for them, even though they thought this is the best EA co-op adventure game they still thought it pathetic because other gaming companies get their co-op adventure games correct. That being said, Ea should have delayed the game 3 years to get all the bugs worked out of the game.

The Pros. The graphics in Anthem is amazing. Games coming out now the graphics look better, but back in 2019, I thought graphics is the best I have seen in a game like this. They nailed the feeling of flying a Javelin and each one feels very unique. The game is stable as long you play it alone or playing with a random player in the game. Playing in co-op mode with friends doesn’t work because of the single-player-only mode in Fort Tarsis.

Negatives about the game. To start with, the game is in the third person, I wish it had a first-person option. In Fort Tarsis town you can explore it by yourself only, every other co-op game except for a few you can be in the same town as your friends. The jungle gameplay experience is cool, but almost every mission is jungle the gameplay gets boring really quick, it does have some cave missions but it's part of the jungle mission. It would have been cool to have missions on different themes like one in caves, volcano, structures in the middle of a lake, a large alien city floating in the middle of the ocean, swamp, desert, winter area, mountain area, Mission lasting too short in-game some only lasting 12 minutes, it should be more like 50 minutes. It has no cross-play. Once you played a mission you should have the option to select that campaign mission and chapter in that mission. Strongholds are cool, there are 4 Strongholds each of them does look unique in the game but they only last 25 minutes each. No real need for Strongholds because mission replay should be enough.

Final thought. Even though I don’t play it that often anymore when I do, I still see random people joining my game most of the time. if you are looking at the E3 2017 video of Anthem then you will be disappointed, because the game doesn’t look like this. I do think their way too much hate out there for this game, constructive criticism is way more helpful. If you want a single-player game with some multiplayer then that is what Mass Effect is for. After Anthem was out only a short time after release, I heard it made over 100 million dollars and it was the second-best-selling game for Bioware. It was on Xbox Gameplay Chart for some time, which told me that a lot of people liked the game. I think what killed the reboot was all hate out there and they did that to satisfy them. Congratulation because of that, I heard that the new Dragon Age game will no longer have co-op in it.

In 2019 the game had a rough launch. You can educate yourself and learn about the hell the developers were forced to go through making this game, blame EA, if anybody. It had a lot of bugs and the developers were forced to rush a launch after months of crunch hours. It's not that they didn't care, they were burnt out against their will. Many had to take months of leave due to mental health issues.

Throughout 2019 many issues were addressed, but to many gamers, it was too late. Many Mass Effect fanboys were also butthurt that the development of this game "ruined" Andromeda. Gamers are some of the most entitled, spoiled people you will meet. Some even harass and make death threats towards developers over a video game(which are basically modern toys) not being to their liking. Absolutely pathetic.

2020 saw more bug fixes, QOL improvements, and a promise of a rework that wasn't necessary. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened making game dev's jobs even harder and by 2021 EA saw the rework as too much of an investment.

As of right now, this game is a lot of fun. Most of the content planned for the game wasn't launched. A rework wasn't necessary, it just needed more content. There were a total of 9 strongholds planned and at least 3 cataclysms. Had these been released, the game would be significantly better. The player base isn't very large but there are a decent number of dedicated fans still playing and new players constantly checking it out thanks to being part of EA Play.

Bioware could easily breathe life into this game without a full rework. They would need to just launch the planned content. Add the additional strongholds and cataclysms. Add a few more story missions for the 3 factions. Add a few more varieties of scenarios for world events and contracts. A few more weapons(especially melee) would be appreciated and an increase in the level cap to 40 would also be welcomed(and maybe a GM4 difficulty to go with the power increase). It's not something they can fix overnight, but it doesn't require a full redesign of the game.

I'm not a veteran Anthem player, I've only got almost 200 hours invested, but I haven't completely given up hope on this game or IP. The gameplay is a lot of fun and the lore(if you dive deeper into it in game) is actually pretty interesting. Maybe as more people try it out, more people will realize that it's actually a fun game and EA/Bioware will see there is still something to salvage and money to be made(because we all know that's all they care about). If they roll out some more content, more people will come back.

If you haven't played it yet, don't be a sheep. Play it yourself and be the judge. Don't let other people do the thinking for you. If I hadn't tried it myself I would have missed out on what quickly became one of my favorite modern games.

People are able to reach max level with quality builds in a couple of weeks, but to get to true top tier still takes hundreds or thousands of hours. Biggest issue is lack of content, but the vitriol from the launch and the inability of some trolls to let it go has caused them to focus on a complete rework. If the game had launched in the state it is currently in, we would be talking about a Game of the Year. Just hoping they get around to giving us the promised re-work so that I will have more things to do when I log in. Expand

The gameplay is FUN, it is easy, the learning curve is not long and hard. And the element of flying and hovering during the action is just very well done.
The story is weak I have to admit, missions are repetitive (I still enjoy it after 20 hours in game), the dialogues are somewhat weird, the plot is not really there. But I wouldn't say it is such a bad thing, it's just a minor - for me because in this game gameplay is more important to me. It's not a witcher or MassEffect storywise.
Loading screens are reasonable now after the patches I think, it's not too long although I'm using a fast SSD (which everyone should in 2019).
I've encountered almost no bugs at all so it seems to be better as well in this department.
To wrap it up, I think it is a great game for the price you can have it right now, not for the original price. It isn't perfect but it definitely is FUN and gorgeous to look at!

Needless to say, after DAI & ME: Andromeda I was not looking forward to or expecting much from Anthem. Somehow it still managed to be worse than I could ever have imagined.

From the rubber band bugs too the tiny amount of dialogue that, while well written, was just not enough to make anything interesting. There was no agency, & you never felt important.

Then I installed it on a whim a few days ago, booted it up yesterday, & proceeded to play for almost 12 hours straight. I was important now. After every small victory, I'd come back to town & people would talk about me as I passed. More important NPC's treated me different. Not like a Rock Star, but with far more respect, trust, & a glimmer of hope they didn't have before.

The gameplay was smooth as heck, with a steady 75 FPS on an r5 1400, 16 GB ddr4 2400, a 4GB reference rx580, & a Samsung 860 EVO SSD to cut down on those load times everyone was up in arms about. The combat was exceptional. Mixing the flying, with jumping, guns, sprinting, & melee, all I can say is *wow*. It is a blast. I played in a couple of groups, they were randoms, not friends of mine, & by myself, both were very rewarding experiences.

As for guns not feeling real; they aren't supposed to. You'd fly off your chair every time you shot a sniper rifle & have bruises from heck on your collarbone & shoulder. I definitely did not think they all felt "the same" as many people gripe about. It's an objective fact that the sniper rifle feels quite different than an assault rifle which feels and aims different than a pistol. The aiming is different, the firing is different, the time it takes to shoot is different. The kickback is...well you get the point.

Now the "Loot". Here's a problem. People want it to be a looter-shooter, & it's not. Not entirely. It is more story-driven than your typical looter-shooter, & the advancement in gear is more akin to a fast-paced crpg than something like Destiny or Warframe. I've had no issues with drops, & am pleased with my progress after about 25 hours. It was tough to stop playing to write this!

If it continues on this path, it will be nothing short of a Rainbow Six Seige comeback. It is a very good game now, that should ge event better. You definitely don't need to buy any microtransactions. The best weapons & armor appear to be the ones you make anyway. I am overly sensitive to taking things as if they were coming from someone in the extreme far left, so I couldn't help but listen for any "SJW dialogue". After hearing & reading the conversations, taken in context with the characters who utter the words, I didn't find anything out of place. Nothing. Just a game with NPC's who have differing views on various things. The only "echo chamber" seemed to be "We need to save the city!"

Give the game a try again if you have it, as Bioware has obviously put a lot of work in, & continues to. The rumors of them not doing anything are completely false, & it makes me wonder if a lot of the YouTubers I watch & trust have played the game within the last month or so, as they have certainly bashed it during that time. I am going to guess they haven't & are taking the word regarding the state of the game from people who have not played either.

Maybe if they actually sat down & played it again, they'd tell people they should give it another shot, instead of "Anthem continues to fail, it's not in the top 50 most-watched games on Twitch..."; well no kidding, because all it gets is negative press. That's just bad & biased reporting because they hate EA (I hate micros too, I hate what they have done to Bioware from DA:I to, well up until I started playing Anthem again, though I still want a hardcore by the book d20'ish cinematic action crpg with a story on par with Baldur's Gate 2 & Throne of Bhaal!).

If you like multiplayer CRPG's you'll most likely enjoy Anthem. Will you like it as much as I do? Hey, that part is subjective, so I don't know, but I can almost promise the problems that plagued the game early on have been ironed out, & pretty much everything has improved. Even the story flows better, which I definitely did not expect. I don't know if they had a ton of dialogue on the cutting room floor they were not going to use at release, or if they got the actors back into the booth to record more lines, but wow is it deeper than before. I'm recommending it to you, and my friends. For reference, these are the games I told friends were *must play* games over the last few years:
    The Witcher 3
    Warframe
    Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
    Divinity: Original Sin 2

Once YouTubers started hating on Anthem, everyone boarded the hate train to its inevitable demise. But after many hours of playing Anthem, I would wholeheartedly say that this game does not deserve the hate it has been given. Yes, the missions are repetitive, and yes, there are many bugs and issues. However, the story isn't bad, and BioWare has fixed most of these issues and plan to continue fixing them. So stop giving an average game such poor ratings. I can assure you that this game, in no way, deserve a complete zero. I'd consider bumping it up to a 3 or a 4, to whatever you truly believe this game deserves. But until then, I am giving Anthem a 10 because people are rating this worse than it deserves. Expand

The game certainly deserves hate for the unfinished state it was shipped in and most definitely for the broken promises on what features it would have upon release. I waited until I could get it on sale and at half-price or less the game is well worth the purchase as it currently is. I just hope they don't walk away like they did with Andromeda and break their promises to continue creating for Anthem. If they do, it will likely be the last EA game I ever buy until years after release so I know what I am getting and not counting on them actually following through on any promises they may otherwise make. They've shown several times already their promises are flimsy at best. Should they prove their promises to in fact be lies, no player should ever trust their word again. They'll destroy what little credibility they may have left and that nobody should buy any games from them based upon future promised features.

P.S. I do have to question the number of reviews here by people who say they've played for 40, 50 or even up to 200+ hours but then give a score of 0 to 4 or 5. WTH? It kept you entertained enough to play for tens or hundreds of hours and yet you trash it? How does that make sense? Are you a bunch of masochists? Oh it's absolute torture but I'll play for another hundred hours... Seriously folks?

    - Diverse set of javelins which each require a different playstyle to succeed.
    - Great customisation options for javelin look
    - Fantastic platform to build upon.

Cons - even after 3 major patches some quality of life issues remain.
    - No stats page
    - It is a co-op game but there is no good way to add someone you just played with
    - GM3 combat is probably too easy.
    - Enemy scaling is mostly by health. This makes it a bit boring at times at high levels.

To be honest there is some server problems now end then but the same thing with other online game as well right? All the issues and glitches have been fixed with patches and I've never seen them. People have misused the game true the glitches and then show others how to do on YouTube. That have spoiled the game a million! They have been banned and then scammed the game and produced "feel-sorry-for-me" videos. Take the punishment and shut the *** up b***s!!
I've met no other problems what so ever and just had fun man.

Now to some pros and cons:

+ Graphic is excellent but you have to have a potent PC
+ The sound really good and add to the story
    + The Music is OK
+ The story line is a little bit confusing first but give it some time just like The Elder Scroll
+ The combat system is very good
+ Easy to handle the gear
+ Very easy to "get started"
+ The environment - how cool isn't the environment
+ Choose between missions and free-play
+ Go by your self or with others which are more rewarding

    - Some server error problems now and then
    - Sometimes repetitive missions
    - Enemies AI in the beginning are to easy but not later

Now the good stuff. First off the ideas that come to life and the size and beauty of the open world is exciting. No other game has ever been like it. The world feels like way Avatar would be. The javelins are painstakingly detailed and every movement in flying, sprinting, walking, and fighting looks amazing. The creatures feel and move realistic.
Fights and battles feel punchy and great. It is fluid and it keeps you on your toes, dodging, floating and flying to new cover or screaming down from the sky like a crusading angel raining firey death on an army of bugs. You are in a battle suit and when you use supers, the enemies feel it. Animations are perfect, you can really feel your armor. It is well balanced though. Get too carless and the giant alien ape will smash you into pudding like a 3000ton gorillia should.
The characters are individuals and well rounded, they dont feel generic. The battle banter feels good too, it makes you smile when your charcter makes the bad guys irritated. The conversations in Fort Tarsis are amusing and adds some flavor to the world that Bioware has built. It is a fronteir fort and it feels like one. While Fort Tarsis can feel a bit slow collecting missions there it is ridiculous to throw the game away for it.
There are a few glitches and frame rate drops here and there but time will take care of that. It is already a very, very finished game. A little bit of tweaking and Bioware will have it down pat. Since it is an online only game maybe the issue is with internet connection. After all a phone line probably just wont cut it. From my experience, if you have reliable internet it plays great. From the sheer quality of the game i could see how bad internet would ruin your day.
This is really an amazing game. IMHO it is way better than Mass Effect which everyone loved. Anthem really does blow Destiny out of the water, sorry. Anthem is super open world, you are not contantly stuck in a tiny room or on some little path. Anthem has jet pack armor that actually feels like jet pack armor. It feels really real, not cartoony. Mechanics work great and there are no pvp criers nerfing your favorite guns and armor when you need to hit that really hard boss level.
Do yourself a favor, dont listen to anyone. Be your own person, have your own opinion, and decide for youself that you like the game. Buy it and have a blast.

I think in a few months we will be facing a game that will mark a before and after.
It's a pity they did not wait to get it out when fully developed. When it came out it could have been a very developed beta. Right now the game sinks content endgame in addition to failures in the loot system that would have been solved if they had tested it before.

The most positive thing is that EA is listening attentively to the community and they are adding big patches every so often.
It is a very ambitious project to abandon it so I am sure that in a short time we will be facing a huge game.

If you're coming in to Anthem for a fully complete, comprehensive story, then you'll be disappointed. There are threads of a story here, and it's very much like the first episode or two of a television series. You get just enough to make you curious, but not enough to satisfy.

If you're coming into Anthem for a third-person shooter with some pretty decent mechanics, then you'll have fun. In this case it's like Destiny, where you could blast through the story, then not have much to do until the next set of content came out. You would still run through the EDZ, or the old Cosmodrome, gathering materials to make yourself stronger. End game Anthem is much the same way.

I'm definitely one of those people. I have a couple of friends on my various gaming app lists, but none of my friends on Origin bought Anthem yet. So I've been matchmaking my story missions and actually kinda enjoying that the pixar quality cut scenes are forced, and that I don't have a friend on the line talking my ear off while it plays out. If I had a friend complaining about "cut scenes in general"(or whatever) in my ear while the story was playing out, I think it would be taking away from the experience quite a bit. Don't get me wrong I love my friends, but I really love my journeys to Bioware's glorious narratives as well. I hope to get some Anthem playing friends along the way to the end game, because I think it would be a fun multiplayer game at that point. I've got about 19 hours in and I just hit level 14(WOOOO!), no rushing here as I stated earlier. Picked the Storm first but I'm now in love with my Interceptor. To put myself in context just let me tell you that I finished all of the main content in ME Andromeda, I think that makes me a Bioware fanboy. However, I'll admit it was drab in storytelling and I skipped the epilogue because the characters had not developed the identities that previous ME games have. It's hard not to give the game a 10 with all the hate, but if I could give it a higher rating I would. I've really enjoyed every moment, and I can't wait to get back to it. My god there wouldn't even be a gaming industry now. As it is the games are destroyed by ignorant fools before they even release I'm worried these companies (love or hate'em) will decide spending multi-millions to create this stuff isn't worth it. Even before it launched, people were preparing to dump on it. If you don't like Shooter Looters or Games as a Service models then why did you buy Anthem. It was well communicated as that before launch.

I've played Destiny (not the sequel) and the Division and honestly Anthem is what I wanted them to be. There's a lot of world building, your character is fully voiced (with options to choose from) and the game play is great with a lot of options for combat and customization. Additionally, the world you play in is large and well developed and they weren't lying when they emphasized verticality. It really adds to the game play and even just getting from point A to B is fun.

I'm actually not the biggest fan of Shooter Looters, one of my gripes is that the enemies that are bullet sponges just don't make sense, but they do in Anthem. The foes that take a lot of damage to kill make sense. They're either heavily armored units or huge vehicles and titans, and I'm not questioning why they take so much damage. Additionally, there's actually variety to game play. Yes, most quests are excuses to get from point A to B to shoot a variety of enemies, but there's also puzzles and other quests. Something you don't see a lot in Shooter Looters.

Also, yes there's micro-transactions and they charge more than they should, but anything you can buy with money you can buy using coin you earn in game. Also, just the beginning armor is awesome.

If you have some principled distaste for Shooter Looters and Games as a Service then sure, stray away from this, but it's actually a good game and I don't want it to die an early death because of people preexisting prejudices.

    Really? 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 ?
I love this game, Anthem is awesome, the game has some problems, normal for a game that is not finished. Anthem has a style similar to Destiny and Monster Hunter, with aspects of Diablo 3, there are things to improve, but the game is too good to receive score 4 or below.

Anthem is great. Combat is fun and unique. The game has some early loot table issues and a lot of loading screens, but those are the only issues I have experienced. These relatively small issues are nothing when you consider the amazingly fun combat that makes you feel like a literal superhero.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the game play. The story isn't the greatest in the world but I've seen worse. Bioware stories are always better in a vacuum. I believe the dissatisfaction stems from a lack of knowledge. Games of this type never start out fully fleshed out. Vanilla WoW had plenty of issues and that was a pay to play game after the initial purchase.

In all honesty I think the reviewers are likely not fans of this genre or have unrealistic expectations. Sure there are issues with the game. That being said it delivers in plenty of areas that result in fun gun play and a beautiful environment. I've encountered 2 game stopping glitches in 30 hours. Other than that pretty much a great time. Loading times aren't nearly as bad as all of you claim. I've timed them between 40 and 120 seconds. There have been games with worse that no one complained about. Likely it is due to the fast paced nature of cooperative MMORPG Looter shooter style games. You want to get in and out quickly and enjoy yourself. I get it we all have stuff to do. Understand the limits of the situation and you'll manage your expectations accordingly. The Frostbite engine is awesome and produces some nice environments with decent physics and fun gameplay. However, it is clearly a demanding engine. That knowledge alone should tell you the consoles will have some longer load times due to that demand. If you want shorter load times get a PC. I've watched a 360 take 4 minutes to load Skyrim, an amazing game. My PC could load that same main area within 20 seconds. I'm more impressed Bioware managed to optimize the console hardware as much as they did.

All you do is look for room to complain rather than marvel at some of the greatness a product has to offer. Ignorance breeds all kinds of dissatisfaction in a product. I believe there is a correlation to the growing gamer community in relation to these types of games and the amount of knowledge to contextualize what you're actually experiencing. Outside of the technical ignorance there is the financial ignorance. I want you all to think about the last time a standard launch version of a video game exceeded 60 dollars. Offhand it was more than a decade ago. Now think about the cost of designing a game this complex with servers and the support staff to run it around the clock. I don't even need to formally run the numbers to tell you the cost to produce these games has gone up, especially online based games that require dedicated servers. The simple conclusion is that if the cost to produce increases and the cost to sell doesn't they will need to find ways to generate revenue elsewhere through DLC, expansions, or cosmetic goods. This stuff isn't free and a billion dollar gaming company doesn't grow off of giving away their profit margin. All of this complaining won't force the gaming companies to adapt to your demands. It will make them realize they can't produce games of this complexity for a price you're willing to pay. All we will have left is trash like Fortnite.

So please continue to complain and watch every good developer disappear. You'll get F2P trash that was slapped together overnight with the depth and complexity of the play dough my grandmother used to make when I was a kid. I could ramble longer but I doubt many will read this and its just me ranting at the people ranting.

If you don't want to deal with the bugs, I'd recommend waiting another month or so to play the game.

The combat is fun and each javelin's way of fighting is unique. You can be an Interceptor fighting up in the face of your enemies in explosive and intense combat. You can be a Storm calmly floating 50 yards up while raining death and destruction down below you. You can be a Colossus lobbing bombs at the hordes or smashing through them with your shield. You can be a Ranger delivering tactical punishment or support from a range while remaining just agile enough to avoid the enemy attacks, but also agile enough to deliver the coup de grâce with your hidden sword.

The story is intriguing and I actually cared about the characters. There is the main story and 3 main agents stories. It takes about 40 hours to complete the main story and the agent stories if you are playing through at a casual pace. There are also a ton of side stories around the city (dialogue only).

Yes, the graphics are amazing.....but what really is important about the visuals is the design. The scenery is amazing. I commonly find myself wishing I could pause the game just to take in everything around me.

As for endgame, there are 3 daily legendary contracts (increased difficulty randomly generated missions with a better loot table), 3 strongholds (aka dungeon/raid), an unlimited supply of randomly generated freelancer contracts, and a free roam mode. What this game really needs, is an "endless mode". I would also like to see some things equivalent to Diablo's bounties, greater rifts, boss fights, etc... Maybe some PvP? It took a while for the other "looter shooters" to add all the endgame content that they wanted, so I'm going to sit back and be patient.

A lot of people complain about load times, and also complain about strange issues that are caused by playing this game with a hard disk drive. If you play this game with a hard disk drive, you WILL have problems. A game with textures and detail this extravagant is too much for a HDD. Play this game on a solid state drive. HDD is a dying technology. Frankly, I'm happy to see a game developer make a game that actually takes advantage of the power of a SSD. It's time we move out of the realm of old primitive HDDs. If you do not have a SSD, go get one, install Windows and your games on it. This will be the single biggest performance boost to you computer you have ever experienced.

For the record, I have 110 hours in the game. I beat all of the main story missions including the agent stories at about 40 hours of play-time. So, I've spent ~70 hours playing strongholds, repeatable missions, and playing the story missions with my friends. I have a ~500 gear score Storm and Interceptor, and ~470 gear score Colossus and Ranger. I think 506 is the current max possible gear score. I'm excited when I get home from work each day because I get to play some Anthem. As long as that excitement is still there, BioWare has done something right.

I give the game a 9/10. -1 point for little annoyances in the game: limited mobility in the city, lack of intelligent AI with NPCs in the city, lack of tactical AI with enemies, no in-game text chat system, and no endless game mode.

    BUT.....
it also has large load times and frame rate drops. Whilst Bio-ware is attempting to fix these issues it is still prominent within the game. Most negative reviews i have witnessed is due to the developer and the over hype that every game gets and cannot live up to expectations.

There were issues with Andromeda in the beginning, and MassEffect 3 had terrible endings, but Anthem is different. At least to me, it is. I have tons of hours into the game, and still loving it as much as when I picked it up. Much like a lot of other Bioware fans I was eagerly awaiting this game. I was not disappointed with what I expected to be in the game vs. reality. I knew that this game was going to be very combat focused, and yet...it isn't. A lot of folks are saying that the characters and story are flat, and without giving spoilers or details, I disagree. The world that you live in outside of combat IS FULL of NPC characters to chat with between quests, and missions. These characters increase as you rank up and unlock things in the game.

I feel the game itself is well executed and despite some early beta/alpha bugs (all of which or most have been worked out now btw). I like the characters, I love the Javalins and piloting one is well done too. The guns feel responsive (and there are a ton of weapons), and the enemies DO NOT feel like bullet sponges. It's rewarding to hit an enemy and watch them react to the hit, or even knock them out of the air if they are flying.

A lot of others are comparing this to WarFrame and Destiny, I have played both and can say this game is different enough. WarFrame is very technical and requires a lot of hours and micro-transactions to "earn" all the frames etc. So far, I have spent 0 extra cash, and have been able to buy a totally new look for a few Javalins. WarFrame has a lot more customization and the number of "frames", but again the enemies are different, the world is different, WarFrame is full of micro-transactions, it's not the same game, though similar.

Destiny is an FPS and aside from that is VERY linear in nature, Anthem is more open as you can freely move and fly around the world, even go under water. Destiny is pretty much a set map for each zone or area/level (pretty sure if you fall into the water, you die). Both games are similar in play-style since they are both shooters, but that is really where I see any similarity stop. Destiny had very little character or relationship building (really none), it was pretty much go to the next level, and then a tiny bit of dialogue (which was all very cheeky and flat). With Anthem, I feel like you get full conversations, and later on you get more and more people to chat with. It has a lot more "character" not to be punny.

In closing, I would highly recommend Anthem to anyone who enjoys multiplayer PVE 3rd Person shooters, either with or without friends this game is a blast. The story elements are great, and the characters you will meet will keep you wanting to unlock new parts of the game to see what or who might be next.

This game to me has broken a funk that I had for the past few months and for the first time in a while I have really wanted to come home and plug into a game. Loving Anthem, every minute of it!

Many reviews that i have read on this title mention the beautiful environment, but dont give it much more credit than that.

See Bioware have gone out in a completely different direction with this game way out of their comfort zone and have and gone for a loot shooter with a twist. this is not their usual format and i think that should count for something. Sure the game has a few issues (none of which i would consider to be deal breakers) such as the loot requiring tweaks (now patched), one or two balance issues, and widening the mission variety a little more.

After around 20 hours play, i have found the following.

Characters are well designed and movement is fluid, battle mechanics are done well with no awkward judder or restrictive movement. however weapons sometimes feel a little under powered compared to the enemies that i am facing,
Flight mechanics work well and are responsive, and the customization options add a nice touch to your character.

The main story in the game is interesting and provides the immersion that i am used to receiving from Bioware titles, and plenty of spin off story arcs as well as in game lore exist which is another staple of Bioware Games.

from a performance perspective this game appears to be well optimized, i obtain 70-80fps consistently on ultra quality at 4k which given the levels of detail in the game is outstanding.

Finishing up, i see real promise in this title, if you have not yet played the game due to launch day reviews, i urge you to give it a try, it really is not as bad as the launch day reviews would have you believe, it does have a few niggles, but certainly no more than any other AAA game that releases these days and i would add that the niggles are far fewer than most titles that have launched in the last 12 months.

if you try it and like it, come back here and leave your own thoughts for others to read, and lets make sure that BioWare are given the credit that they deserve so that they can continue to make great games for years to come.

The developers have laid out a great road map and seem to be listening to the community which is fantastic. The game still has its flaws though like no chat client, bad UI, not currently supporting SLI ( devs confirmed its coming though), and not much variety in player or weapon cosmetics. Weapon variety is just thin all around.

Everything I just mentioned kind of fades away though as soon as I start flying around in my Javelin. The game play is veeeery fun, the graphics are gorgeous, I think the sound design is good, the sound track is great, and playing with friends makes it all the more worth while. If you don't like games the have you repeat content for rewards that make you more powerful, so that you can complete that content on a higher level(Loot Pursuit) then you won't like Anthem.

However, if you enjoy games like destiny, The Division, and Borderlands, then this is what I'll say,
the core game play in Anthem is like nothing Ive ever played. Fast pace is an understatement. they nailed the iron man feeling. the 4 classes (Javelins) you can play as all feel extremely different.
playing with a Storm vs. playing with a Ranger is nearly 2 different games.

The Story, well i liked it. is it on the same level as a single player game? No.

is it as good if not better then the other games in the genre. Yeah, i would say so.

in my opinion there are 3 types of people that are reviewing this game poorly.

1- Those who hate Loot Pursuit games.
and for good reason they just don't like this type of game and that's fine.

2- Reviewers that wanted to get a review out ASAP, and rushed through the game in 2 days.
Yeah, i would hate a game too if i played it for 60 hours straight.

3- People who expected a Story driven loot pursuit game, and are disappointed that its not that.
Which is also a perfectly fine reason, However i never remember that being part of the pitch from the developers, but i could be wrong.

Anyways, my opinion on Anthem is, it's a beautiful work of art, that has me hooked like no game has in about 5 years. The game play is addicting, the Story is interesting, the world is unique, and i can tell how much Bio-ware cares about this game
my head says, "Okay, its fun but it has some flaws, give it a 8 or 9 at the most."

But, when a game is able to bring me back to the days of staring at the clock waiting until i can go home and play it, and that felling of " Okay, just one more" at 2 A.M. How can i not say that this game is a 10? ........ FOR ME.

Excellent game with a lot of potential. The combat is fun, the graphics are some of the best I've ever seen, and the narrative is remarkably well done for a looter shooter.

However there are still quite a few bugs and some UI clunk that can be ironed out.

I'll give Anthem an 8 for its potential.

Anthem is not Destiny. It is unique, and although there are some bugs, for those of you who play other games of this type, name one that had a flawless launch. If you are on the fence, then wait for about 3 months or so then check back, and decide then.

Frankly, I have to wonder if some of the bad reviews are agenda-driven. As one other review stated, there are plenty of negative reviews that do not specify exactly what is "bad" about the game. Also...I have a feeling that some reviewers do not play long enough to really get a sense of how the game works.

Regardless, my measurement is simply this: is the game fun? Anthem is fun, in my opinion, and I will be playing it for a very long time.

I like playing Solo but the teams I matched up with were tons of fun also shows how important teamwork is in this game. Fighting tougher enemies I was Thank-full for Drop-Ins to help out even on my Solo runs. It's a very Cooperative game design. No communication on these random Team missions means you have to pay attention to get some solid combo's but that is my only gripe with those. The quests are fun, the lore is interesting and the graphics are incredible. Loot isn't a concern for me but yes, it isn't stellar. Combat is really interesting with the flight/hover ability giving you an edge on taking the environment into account. I don't know, but I have hardly any issues with the PC version as compared to the Xbox version. I've rolled this with my crew on Xbox, and ran into tons of server issues, game glitches, and several other issues. But all in all, the PC version has been a fun experience. AS for the game, the scenery is awesome, the story is interesting. The voice acting is pretty good, but I have heard worse. Not everyone has the power of Commander Shepherd, or Marcus Fenix. When you start to level up, you need to increase your threat level. After a certain point, Hard, is not really that hard at all. So you need to take it up a notch. That would be my only complaint. If you are playing this on normal, your're a newb, or don't like a challenge. Other than that, it's a really fun game to explore with your friends. I have my Setting at Ultra, with a solid 62fps. Running a GTX1060 6gig Over Clocked, and AMD Ryzen7 8 core 3.2. Currently only 16gigs of DDR4 3200, and a 1tb SSD. Very pleased with the game, and having fun. Oh, just a point of interest, you don't need to make micro-transactions. They are there if you would like, but I didn't do that. I just hold on to my money until I have what I want to get what I want. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to buy something. And if you are too impatient to wait, that sounds like another issue for your psychiatrist. I personally will not spend money on the transactions if I can just earn it. To complain about the micro-transactions is just childish. You do not have to pay to play, cause it isn't like those items make you stronger. Go earn some coin running contracts down. As a team with friends is the best way to earn tons of extra coin. I was only part of the way through the story when I bought a bunch of items for my Javelin. Also, just join Origin Access Premier, and pay that little monthly fee, and get the Legion of Dawn edition with the subscription. So you pay, like $12, for a month. If you don't like the game, all of the other Origin games are there for you. Or if you don't like any of it, cancel the subscription, and you lost only the $12. Didn't pay full price for the game, and then you can complain about that as well. But seriously, the game is fun, and I just shared a way for you to get access to the Legion of Dawn Edition, for less than the price of the full game. And an easy way to get out of it if you don't like it. Boom goes the dynamite. People are making life to be way more difficult than it really is. I hope this helps at least some of you. And to the people saying it is nothing new, well, is anything anymore? I have been playing video games since years before a lot of you were born. I have been through the, been there done that, years and years now. Absolutely nothing coming out is new. Except the graphics. They keep on getting better. You look for a game that is fun to play. Period. Nothing is new anymore. I think a lot of you are crying over the fact there is no PVP. Well, that is a good thing. The game was designed to teach you to help each other, and watch your teams backs. It is about friendship and redemption. I actually though the story was decent, but I oh well. To each their own. I'm really enjoying the game so far. The loading times are on the slow side, but not unbearable. I've got the game on my regular SSD, I may try moving it to my NVME drive to see how much it helps.

I did have to turn some graphics settings off Ultra to get 50-60fps at 2160x1080 resolution using a 6gb MSI 1070. My biggest criticism of the game so far is that the interface isn't as nice

My biggest criticism of the game so far is that the interface isn't as nice as Destiny 2's. Not being able to just go look at my load out and having to go through an actual loading screen to do so is annoying. The guns aren't as satisfying to shoot as I'd like but that could be because I'm still fairly early in the game and have crappy guns, the skills on the Storm javelin are awesome though.

I enjoyed many things about the major parts of this game. I can see the hard work and detail that has been put into it by Bioware. This game is not broken, nor are we given half a world that isn't completed. Yes, some issues do deserve to be addressed and some constructive criticisms about concerns were valid in mention of some, and I say, some of the negative reviews.

    But please don't

This game is not broken, nor are we given half a world that isn't completed. Yes, some issues do deserve to be addressed and some constructive criticisms about concerns were valid in mention of some, and I say, some of the negative reviews.

But please don't forget, this is a live service game that will continuously add content to Anthem's story and world. How can some of the nay sayers miss that rather large detail. Bioware already have the plans and it is already set out for what will come next. They have been extremely transparent and open with their community of gamers. They have addressed issues already and have put out two patches in quick concession. Don't think for a minute that they won't be able to handle the pressure, that is part of their job with a live service game.

Another thing to add is micro-transactions are limited to cosmetic items only. I've seen it for myself and you can either buy Shards with RL money or you can earn coin to get the cosmetic materials or skins. I think that is a very fair system there, Bioware hasn't been dishonest at all about it, they are quite aware of the concerns about micro-transactions.

It doesn't really need more baking, it is already a really solid game, with a solid story, with the chance of DLC to be added for FREE through a patch download. What they are trying to do with Anthem is a new approach for Bioware, let them have a chance at this.

For those of you who are blind sighted with dislike for the publisher, forget EA, think about supporting the game developers here, think about what it takes for them to make the game, instead of $hitting on them because you feel disillusioned with the major publisher. I think they get the message already with some of your bombing reviews, that you really don't like them.
I bet there is a game and their company and publisher that you like, that somebody will hate or dislike for the same reasons you don't like EA or Bioware for, think about that for a minute.

For those of you who are interested in playing Anthem, but are scared to because of negative opinions and bias, please give this game a chance, with out bias influence, and judge the game based on it's own merits.

Since there is so much bombing going on for a game that isn't terrible at all, I'm going to try and help even out the user review by giving this game a 10/10.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
