Played this for 6 hours on my friends Origin account because I already saw this coming. Playing it just confirmed it. The game is a hollow shell and while the shell looks very nice. every thing with in it is empty. The combat though isn't to bad, unfortunitly you will be fighting waves of braindead AI who either rush you or just stand there with there thumb up there butt.

Then you have the load times and oh dear god are they bad. even with a SSD you will be waiting almost a minute and my friend had a HDD and he said he was waiting a few minutes and that might be tolerable if there wasn't a TON of loading moments.

Performance is complete crap. It's not optimized well and stutters on my rig and I have a I7 6700k , 980 TI and 16GB Ram. I have no problem maxing any game out still with that set up and things running smoothly unless the game optimized like crap.

The story sucks, The NPC's in this game are annoying as all hell. The story is coma inducing and you just want to skip it and go back to the repetitive gameplay instead. which by the way all you do is go to point A kill some enemies go to point b kill more enemies then point C fight boss and repeat. There is a open world mode witch is dull as hell. The loot is also boring. I never felt excited getting any thing unlike say borderlands 1 and 2.

The world is also very empty. while it looks really nice graphically there is just nothing there. This game feels like its a Early access game. Like it could be some thing good in the future like in maybe 1.5-2 years or more. As it is now I personally wouldn't pay more then $5 for it and it will probably be $30 in a month and since it has MTX I wouldn't be surprised if it went F2P with in a year. I would not pay $60 for this for any reason.

This game is not very good, it's not very bad too, it's just meh. It has some fun moments but they are few and far between. A lot of boring and mindless grind for the sake of grind.
Anthem would be ok game for a F2P, but for a $60 - absolutely not worth it.

This hurts me to review so badly, because generally, I do enjoy the game. There are parts of this game that are phenomenal. The sound design for your javelin is awesome, and it is always so much fun to just take off. The Iron Man simulation is real with this game. The combo system is somewhat interesting, and the gunplay is acceptable, if not a little underwhelming.

However, the game is just plain broken. Some of the design decisions are baffling, and the story is average at best. Some of the dialogue is great, but a majority of it is pretty cringe inducing. Worst of all, no matter what I try to do, even after the day one patch, the game just runs so terribly that I can't believe it shipped in this state. I don't have the best PC, but this is the first game I have ever encountered where my PC just can't even come close to handling it. I have constant frame rate drops from 60 fps to 1-3, every 10-30 seconds. It is unbearable. I've tried every tip and setting possible, and run on low settings, and it makes no different. Worst part is I can run on high/ultra and have the same fps as on low, which leads me to believe it probably isn't my PC.

Just can't recommend the game in this state, and it is a shame. It may someday be great, but it definitely is not right now. Even when I can play it without hiccups, which is rare, especially after the latest update, there just is not enough meat on the bones to overcome the negative aspects. With that said, I still do enjoy playing and will continue to login from time to time hoping for some improvements.

Loot drops are a huge issue because even though you are flying a particular javelin, you pick up loot for the most sought after rarities (masterwork and legendary) for ALL of the javelins you own. So if you get a legendary drop (that can take upwards of two or more days to drop cause RNG is a pain) and it might not even be for the suit youre currently flying.

The only reason the drop rate issue is an issue at all is because that's literally the end game. There is no new content to unlock once you get a certain gear score, the achievements for getting all of one gear score dont seem to work (Im at masterwork and I looked and all those challenges are not completed), theres no actual in game REASON to continue playing the game once you hit 30. OTHER than to grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run in the hopes of getting good enough drops to get to GM1 where you get all the loot, where you grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run in the hopes of getting good enough drops to get to GM2. Then you get to grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run in the hopes of getting good enough drops to get to GM3, but at a much harder difficulty, but for seemingly the same weighted loot as in GM1. THEN you get to get into GM3 where you get to grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run... to get the best gear.... for why exactly?

In short, dont buy this game for at least a year or two, or as the fanbois say on the forums/Reddit, "Give them time to fix it".

A lot of games are hard to review - Anthem isn't one of them. It is easy to identify the strengths it has - excellent graphical fidelity and wonderful flight mechanics - and even easier to identify the many, many flaws.

The narrative is a botched attempt at a traditional Bioware story, shoved inside a looter shooter. It fails dramatically pretty much immediately after the first cutscene. It's not that the voice acting is bad - because it really isn't - but the presentation of it means you don't care what is happening, ever.

This isn't helped by banal environments, which consists of forest ruin after forest ruin, non-stop, over and over again, interrupted by massive loading times. The game looks beautiful, but is boring to look at after an hour or so - that seems like a contradiction, but there's only so long you can look at the same pretty picture before you want to look at something different. Anthem provides no visual diversity.

As everyone suspected before launch, this is Destiny Lite. The core combat is the familiar bullet-sponge looter shooter the market is now flooded with, but Anthem is a terrible example of it because, again, the gameplay loop lacks diversity. You do the same thing, over and over again, and when the flight mechanics stop being fun, the whole game stops being fun.

I know people will say there's 'potential' here, but honestly this is a full price, AAA game that should be a lot better than this on release. We shouldn't be paying to be glorified Beta testers for DLC down the line.

Ultimately, Anthem feels like the game Bioware had to make rather than the one they wanted to make. The lack of soul in this title is resoundingly obvious.

The characters are bland, the NPC's are basically cardboard cut outs, the models have been completely changed.
    Theres no dynamic quest system.
Theres loading screens every 5 minutes.
The loot for a looter shooter is so basic and uninteresting. There are no new models for Legendary weapons, just basic re-skins of the same guns you've had from the start.
The actual story that has been left in the game has clearly been chopped up and re-arranged with characters the game expects you already to know appearing in missions but you've never met them or spoken to that NPC at the fort or in the world. (Sev from the Scar base stronghold).
All javelin customisation which was clearly seen in the live streams weeks before release has been stripped out and removed (possibly for later re-sale as micro transactions).
No actual decision you make in the game has any effect on your character or the quest givers and characters you meet. This was supposed to be one of the major selling points that the initial Anthem marketing videos hammered home as something the game would contain.
All the marketing videos that were released have essentially lied about the majority of the content that was supposed to be in the game.
The stats on your gear and guns makes no viable sense, and makes trying to make a worthwhile build for your javelin almost impossible.
The mission design is extremely basic and padded out.
The Striders which are spoken about as being such an important part of the Anthem world in the lore have been made completely static, even though they were shown to be mobile and even get attacked by enemy NPC's in a mission / in the world. This never happens in the game. The in-game cinematics even show these Striders being used as assault vehicles, transports, traders and the main vehicle of choice for the Freelancers, if not everyone in Anthem. Why arent they used in a more dynamic way like a mobile spawn point or repair / resupply stations that move around the world?

Anthem is the basics of a great idea. If the game we received was the same that was shown at E3 2017, we'd be looking at a 10/10. But the game has been completely gutted, and I dont know how you can advertise your video at E3 as "actual in-game footage" and then completely downgrade everything from the animations, to the environment, to the way the game actually flows. A damn shame.

There is this super critical thing we need to do, oh wait let me do a contract first....
Just load into the mission and race to the next way point, if you lag behind, you'll be loaded to your group's location. This is bad for story immersion.

Voice acting and side stories, just NPC speaking, are nice.

I've played 45 hours and I'm done, there is nothing to do anymore.
I've only played for 10 days...
Sure I could gear out another jav, but what's the point...
    Grandmaster 3, hahah, no....
Free play exploration is all that's left, but why do it at all?
There is no incentive to do any/all the feats... no cool gear or something.

You can grind for the in-game currency, you don't have to buy, but there is nothing to buy anyway. I'm sitting on 140.000 coins and I haven't found anything good to spend it on.

    - the control is just flat out bad. seriously.. anyone in the dev team tried e.g. swimming in this game?
    - the ui is abysmal. almost hard to navigate between menus... where is that ui rework they promised???
    - to track an objective's progress takes about 15-20 seconds to open the correct menu with this lazy console ui.
    - filled with huge amount of bugs. there's not a single play session in which i haven't encountered any bugs.
since the day 0 patch though, things are looking better. just stacked in the texture.. nvm.
    - end game issues, my biggest concern: what is the point of having better gear? why is there no ranking/leaderboard system? or a diablo greater rift like timed based dungeon/raid?
there is no incentive to have better gear. or the point of having good gear is that i can farm gm3 a little bit faster? it won't be enough in 2019.
    - many things (primer - detonator skills) are not even explained within the game? do i really have to get every info on reddit? please.
    - everything feels like a cheap console copy, we are treated like peasants but we are the master race. remember this.
    - loading screen simulator on an SSD.
    - gaining exp after max level for nothing… haven't you learned anything?

after the gossip that this is the last chance for BioWare to prove to EA, i'd be really concerned in Edmonton.

Further, every post-launch update has introduced major unintended bugs, and there doesn't seem to be a clear understand on the developer's part on what the actual problems are, let alone how to fix them.

It's a shame, because some very talented people have obviously worked very hard to develop Anthem, but this game needed at least another year of development, and a more focused core idea to build on. With other pioneering games in the genre having had such high-profile problems, it's puzzling to see BioWare and EA not only repeat those same mistakes years later, but do worse on every front.

They're charging for it NOW so it should be judged NOW. Personally I think this could be a great game, in about 18 months & 3 DLCs time and im more than happy to wait and pick up the "complete" game then (for half the price)

Another incomplete skeleton of a game. It's functional and looks pretty, but that's about all it has going for it. It's yet another half-baked, repetitive grindfest of a "live service".

However, I don't doubt that Bioware did all they could with it. The blame should be aimed at EA for taking Bioware out of their element.

What is available at launch is ok...it's average...a bit lackluster but not trash... though not as good as say ...destiny 2 on launch (which was far from perfect).

The single player experience is simply not there yet.
The multiplayer just doesnt work yet.
A lot doesnt work yet. I dont know why this is beyond a too early release which is disappointing after 6 years and so nuch hard work and good will on all sides.

I do find it kind of offensive that the devs publisher would do this to fans. It's like a boat with no life jackets and a small hole and only one engine.
We're all going in circles and sinking slightly but we know we can't jump out without drowning.
Not much planning by the crew so we all just have to hope they fix the leak asap.
No one would call the latter a pleasure cruize and it be unacceptible in other industires....So why should we accept an incomplete broken game? I don't think we should.

Despite this the game has some fun mechnaics which almost nail the ambitious ideas Anthem claimed it would reach and could reach maybe in a year or so if they listen to fans.

-Lack of optimization when flying around
-Fort Tarsis being so small it makes Dragon Age 2's Kirkwall seem large by comparison
-Lack of Roleplaying and dialogue options found in other Bioware games
-Story mode so lacking they padded it out with grindy missions.

While customizing one of the 4 Javelins is entertaining for a little while, there's not enough there to justify a $60 purchase.

If you have Origin Premiere, go ahead, but wait for a patch and more content before diving in.

EA continues to prove that marketing is more important to them than quality when it comes to videogames, Anthem is a shallow game which quickly becomes repetitive and boring with horrible loading times. At least it's pretty to look at though?

After a suprisingly mediocre Mass Effect Andromeda i didn't have hight expectations. As soon as first trailer of Anthem dropped, i knew that this game isn't exactly my kind of game - yet i often try new things, just for sake of knowing something fresh and new.

Anthem is, again, very mediocre game from studio that i was once considered as one of my favourites. Don't know what changed inside the studio. What i know, is that Anthem is very repetitive, shallow, boring to death online experience that does much worse something that was already done better by other studios. And i actually dont mind repetitivness! This game is a shell with many artificial fillers, go-there quests, and fetch quests inside it, instead of any trace of actual content. Can they fix it? Probably... wil they fix it? who knows! For now there is very subjective 4/10 from me.

It's a sad time. Cookie Cutter from Bioware, never though i'd see the day. 4 for the flying mechanics and some combat features. Otherwise I would give it a -2.

    Very bad.
    1. A game that is supposed to be played in a coop with friends. And after the Mission, you are thrown into the hub to watch the cutscene for 5-10 minutes and wander around the hub and only then you can get together again.
    2. Mandatory grind to advance the plot.
    3. No endgame content.
I could forgive a Warframe, made for 10 dollars, which was completed in the process, but not an AAA game.
    4/10 for beautiful flights.

The combat in this game is fun, as is the mode of travel in the relatively small open world. The rest of the game unfortunately isn't worth a look, and to top that there is a complete dearth of any form of endgame, with the experience being very repetitive and lacking in depth.

The "story" is a singularly horrendous experience, with characters pretty much coming across as children in the bodies of adults, wasting inordinate lengths of time between missions in an environment that is tedious to navigate around.

This game does have potential that is ultimately going to be wasted, as the developers are far too proud of the elements of this game that actually ruin it, and haven't put enough effort into content for the parts that are genuinely good.

The base of the game feels great, the gameplay is amazing, but it's the only good thing about the game.
The AI of the enemies is a disaster, there are only two types of missions, with all that you speak in strong Tarsis is inconsequential and boring.
The missions are very short, you spend the same time playing that loading maps. EA has rushed taking out this game and that is what is

EA has rushed taking out this game and that is what is going to take him to the grave, they had everything to make a great game and have gotten something mediocre.
On a visual and playable level it feels like a triple A but the final result is like a: imagine caring for your pony

I’ve put 20 hours into Anthem. At best, it’s a mediocre copy of Destiny 2. It looks nice and the combat is decent, but the game is incredibly shallow. There are far too many loading screens. There simply isn’t enough to do in this game. Getting missions is a tedious process of being forced to enter into dull conversations with NPCs. I found myself hitting esc to get through seemingly endless amounts of dull conversations just so I could get a generic mission. The game also has a fair amount of bugs and network issues. I’ve gotten random disconnects, the sound cuts out randomly, missions don’t updates on certain steps, and you sometimes get stuck in endless loading screens. I’m sorry this game needs at least another 6 months to a year in development. This game is not worth full price. It’s at best a $10-$15 game. Expand

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
