Dec 4, 2014A standard space-based RTS. Short, but also cheap, worth picking up if you are a fan of the genre or are just itching for some old-school RTS action.
-
Oct 3, 2014Let’s be clear here: Ancient Space is definitely not a new Homeworld, nor should it have to be. It has found its own niche, applying the excellent balance and approachable tactics of the traditional RTS, and taking it into space with panache.
-
Nov 24, 2014The sudden increase in the level of difficulty, the amount not so huge of units and upgrades, the lack of multiplayer and the failure to exploit the 3D universe in which the game is set are not convincing at all. Nevertheless, the game is still a good space RTS.
-
Oct 2, 2014The excessive micromanagement and often vexing pace of combat tarnish the tactical depth created by cool officer abilities and unit variety.
-
CD-ActionJan 9, 2015I was not unhappy playing Ancient Space, but I don’t feel like playing it again, because at some point during the 15-hours-long campaign, the gameplay got boring. [13/2014, p.68]
-
Oct 24, 2014If you’re a fan of space strategy games, you might enjoy Ancient Space, otherwise, it’s not worth the frustration.
-
Oct 6, 2014Neither bad nor great, Ancient Space offers mostly solid, sufficient space strategy on a small scale. Gameplay gets a little monotonous after a while and the story is never interesting enough to keep us hooked. On the plus side, mission design is pleasantly varied and the visuals are fine, too.
-
Oct 6, 2014Simply lacks power and depth.
-
Nov 10, 2014Ancient Space doesn’t live up to its marketing and could’ve benefited from some additional time and testing; it is, however, playable and cheap.
-
Oct 19, 2014Some fans will find things to like about Ancient Space, but its gameplay isn’t as infinite as the depths of space that surrounds us.
-
Game World Navigator MagazineOct 25, 2014The last hope of Ancient Space is the storyline which is called exciting by its creators. In fact it is rather beaten and absurd. There is scientific expedition sent to certain zone that is absorbing human colonies. Some sensors are not working and therefore scriptwriters assume that some pirates should take the blame. So player confronts these abstract leaderless robbers for a major part of the plot. Can somebody explain why scientists should fight pirates? [Nov 2014, p.101]
-
Dec 3, 2014The gameplay mechanics of Ancient Space would have been a good fit for multiplayer, but there are no online modes at all, and the single-player campaign is hardly worth your time.
