It's not that this is a bad game by any means, it's just that it's so extraordinarily average that it just utterly failed to impress me in any real regard. The atmosphere, dialogue, graphics, story, music and gameplay just proclaims loudly that this is your run-of-the-mill anime jrpg without that special something. I also need to point out that the placement of enemies on the maps, which I liked as a gameplay aspect, was also unusually frustrating considering how often I ran into enemies when I tried to get away from them. Honestly? I would have rather had random encounters at that point, considering I was literally taking three steps and got into battle after battle...it just sucked the fun out of me.

The story and characters were pretty decent, but again not impressive. I also need to point out how imbalanced the leveling system is in this game, especially compared to the stats of the enemies. While there are some flaws I can forgive, I just came away from my experience with this game with a dose of 'eh it's decent'. I can't really recommend it, unless you're a hardcore rpg gamer and you need your fix of an average anime jrpg.

Having played some incredible indie JRPGs already this year, Alpha Kimori takes the lead by perhaps being my number one. While part 1 may be a bit short, it more than makes up for it with its well written story and believable characters.

I know it sounds like I've bagged on Alpha Kimori here and there, but it's got it where it counts, and every complaint I have can be remedied. I enjoyed the 5 hours I spent with this game and look forward to Episode 2, which should reportedly drop in early 2012.

In the grand scheme of things, Alpha Kimori is neither a good or a bad game. It falls into the realm of the decidedly average titles, where it fails to impress, but is not overly flawed in any major way. All in all, if the player thinks that they are going to enjoy the story then pick it up, but don't approach it with overly high expectations.
