A pale shell of the franchise. The A.I. is bad, no voice acting, a wire frame of a storyline, and long loading times for sub par graphics. A great survival horror game turned into a lesser than average co-op shooter.

It's like a Left for Dead without fun, good combat and shooting, art design, ballance and players. Don't buy it. It's a new game what is already dead. No lobby, no players. Single Player is horrible.

Survival? Yeah, but not from the monsters, more from the game itself.
Like TB said, if you like turn-on-the-light-simulators, this is your game. If you do not like boring, repetitive, stupid and mediocre games that feature no logic what-so-ever and only have annoying combat, then this is the game for you. If not, play any other game out there and you will enjoy it better.

    Looks decent though.

    A complete disaster
    A completely pointless game
A shame for the franchise that was once so brilliant!
I do not recommend wasting even a single cent on this game!

I´ve never played such a garbage like this. Waht happened to Atari, that they publish such an unpolished, poor and ugly game? It´s full of bugs, but even when it would play smoothly, there´s nothing to keep you interested. Don´t buy it!

    It's bad. It's really bad.
The controls are absolutely terrible, it looks terrible, and the sounds are just awful. In the single-player campaign, the only way to play this game is on Easy, because it is literally impossible to play on

In the single-player campaign, the only way to play this game is on Easy, because it is literally impossible to play on any other difficulty. In fact, Easy mode is TOO easy, hardly any monsters spawn, but anything above that is a massive wave of monsters. There is NOTHING good about this game, and I feel sorry for the poor saps who paid 19.99 for this piece of garbage. Seriously, don't buy this game just to see how bad it is, it's really that bad.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination gets a 1/10.

Alone in the Dark.... Its a Co-Op shooter where you shine lights everywhere to fight the generic monsters..

Yes... You are neither Alone or in the Dark in a game called 'Alone in the Dark'.. that's how bad this game is

I used to like the Alone in the Dark series, but this edition looks and feels like Wes Craven **** into a box fan and made a game of it. I'd expect this from a Pre-Alpha release, but the gameplay just feels like a bore. As someone who tries to find the best in most negative releases, this game feels like a 2002 game with ambition kicked to the curb.

They ruined my first and favorite survival horror series! I can't find of reason for a developer to take on franchise with a huge fanbase and make such a mess out of it! Avoid!

Since this game is already buried under a mountain of terrible, i'm just going to say that the only thing it gets right is me crying alone in a dark room. That's the only positive thing about it.

So to be fair I'll give it a 0.5 for giving me a real life experience, another 0.5 for being in a dark environment in game and a 1 for the sorry guys who made the effort of producing this

This is 2015. Not only was this the biggest disappointment of 2015 but I was left crying after playing this game. This game clearly was not finished, shooting was very buggy and color palette was off. No external controller support(Seriously!!) and small range of characters to choose from. This is were people start to realize that trailers are so off from the actual game play. Good Luck toThis is 2015. This is the worst game in the last ten years. Alone in the Dark franchise is dead and buried, thanks to Atari. Your life will be better if you don't suffer this horrendous piece of crap. This is a fraud for the memory of the legendary 90's franchise. I'm really angry, i can't say anymore.

Alone in the dark? I used to like alone in the dark games.

It seams as though Atari think Alone in the dark franchise can lend itself to be a left 4 dead style game, but it falls so far short of being on that level of playability. This mess of a game leads you into a level that is IMO impossible to complete on first few tries so you are expected to grind away at it gaining XP to level up skills before its possible to clear it.

The level layout changes every try which would be cool except it becomes frustrating as you trek to a gate you cant open but can see the item you want is still behind it forcing you to check all gates in hope that you find the open gate before the endless dumb monsters corner you in an area that has no lights left, no lights means your dead as you can barely hurt the monsters, unless you have ammo for your super weapon.
It appears that the pickups change every play too, I played as the hunter and on my 2nd try i lasted quite a while but I didn't see a single refill for my flame thrower. I saw at least 8 ammo packs for the engineer that I'm not even playing as.

All the good ideas of this game are sapped to hell with bad execution. Few games have me thinking WTF is the point after just 10mins.

This only lives up to the name in the fact u are, alone in the dark, no-one online playing cause everyone plays for 15mins and drops it like its made of ****!
Not even hardcore lovers of Alone in dark series should pick this up it'll only end in a great disappointment its nothing like any of its previous incarnations.

A truly horrible game by any standard. 1/10 1 point for having fairly nice lighting even if the rest of the game looks a bit **** (flamethrower effect / completely none existent jump animation LMAO)

oh and you cant use a joypad of any kind as it wont let you bind use/pickup its stuck on F with no option for it

I don't understand why people are so down on this game, sure the title is misleading, it could have just as easily been called 'Polygon Warriors from PS2 era go Nutzoid' but I digress. If you take the game on its own merits and put AITD out of your mind, you might have some fun with this little Indie offering.

If you take the game on its own merits and put AITD out of your mind, you might have some fun with this little Indie offering.

In the game you can choose from three characters - Mechanic, Priest & Witch, I chose the last one who can cast some spells like a hand-thrown lightning bolt. The game-play overall is rather simplistic, often with maze like levels with fetch-return type quests to undertake e.g. grab some dynamite to blow a hole in the wall, the items to collect always can be tracked by a glowing outline that is seen even through the architecture. Dotted about the maps are light sources such as lamps and barrels that can be activated, and when the nasties are in the light they are vulnerable to your attacks, furthermore as the Witch you can enchant the light so it does extra damage to the hordes, which I thought was kinda' neat .The idea of using light as leverage over the demons evokes Alan Wake, but don't be misconceived, this plays nothing like aforesaid game, but more like a twisted lovechild with Vampire Rain, or something to that effect.

It must be said, you might die a few times to begin with...well, truthfully a lot, it is a rape fest, at least on medium or hard anyway. With that being said, the idea is to grind and slowly level up your characters abilities to somewhat alleviate the difficulty on those higher levels, even if you die it isn't a total loss since you are still dealt the skill points for what you managed in the session. It is sort of like how in those EDF games some levels feel beyond your grasp to defeat on the harder levels until you have earned better equipment to tackle them with from other levels. The game's story is told through clumps or text at the beginning of levels and also the protagonist may have some comments (also text only) during play, I suppose Atari wasn't willing to shell out for voice actors, the cheap so-and-so's.

Head over to Steam and illuminate the devs day with a thoughtful purchase, I for one would like to know what PURE FPS will do next!

*You may need a third-party app to map all controls to your gamepad

    * Interesting fact, PURE FPS was formed by the founding members of Plastic Piranha, they had one unreleased game

I love to play alone in the dark because i can play horror games at night and my room is dark. But, the games has a huge twist when there is light in the dark, illuminating the surroundings so there is contrast between light and dark, two polar opposites.

How on earth could this game make it to a release state? And why would Atari kill the franchise that started survival horror and made Resident Evil what it is today?
