Having played the previous AvP's I was inclined to play this one. Its a fun action game allowing you to play as either Marines, Predator or Alien. While entertaining there are some small gripes like having to hold down the mouse button as Alien to traverse walls (lazy coding). Other than that it is a great game to play if a little confussling with missions split across the 3 playable races.

While with this new release of AvP, there is a very clear distinction of what is not here between the two games: Levels. If you knew what you was doing and knew how to do it precisely on the hardest difficulty, you could beat the new installment of AvP in so little time on the Alien campaign. What I really wished to see in the new installement was to go through the Alien life-cycle because that was so much fun to do. Locate the isolated host and then burst through his chest followed by having to sneak by the USCMC to feed in order to molt into your adult stage. That is what I missed in the new installment but it is minor in comparison to the levels that were missing that could've been included. Instead though, we get top grade graphics which visually impress me and gameplay that is very easy learn and tactics that must be utilized that are somewhat similar to Metal Gear Solid series, from MGS3 and up on consoles. I've only lightly brushed into multiplayer and I've found being the Aliens in multiplayer games not as bad as I've read it. Certainly there are not a lot of dark maps that are geared to give Aliens the advantage but you can at least destroy light sources that make it harder for enemy players to spot you which from what I read is what many of the players forget that the Aliens can do. The ability to "sneak" up behind an enemy, USCMC and Predator alike, and kill them with a stealth kill is empowering to the player performing the stealth kill and said player can quickly get away for another stealth kill provided the slayed player's buddy(ies) are not pay attention to what is happening. There should've been a "save your friend" mechanic in the multiplayer. What I mean by this is that if you noticed your friend about to be stealth/trophy killed you should be able to shoot the alien/predator down before the kill your friend to save your his life. Dedicated servers should also be set up to lower ping similar to what Valve does with their servers. Despite the flaws, I rate this game a 10/10. Expand

Best atmosphere and storyline found when playing the marine campaign. I found playing a little in my lunch break could be a little too intense for a 'break'. The motion sensor can cause you to search the shadows. This is further enhanced with the great sound effects that pay the movie franchises homage.

The additional campaign options of alien and predator set this game aside from most. Something they first achieved with the original two games (AvP and AvP2). The story lines are not as strong. However, learning the different characters and styles keeps you interested. The predator is most effective following a methodological attack and stealth approach and it is best to make use of the focus jump to take advantage, sneak around or get the out of a swarm of aliens or marine bullets. On the other hand, the alien takes a bit to get used to. The ability to crawl over walls and ceilings is fantastic but also tests your sense of direction and 'which way is up'. The aiming reticule works well to assist - use it. Not as fast as AvP but still fun to sneak up and claw a marine. Don't forget to search out and use the shadows.

This game has received several bad reviews. I say WHY? I agree - not being able to crouch is annoying. But why pick on a game for re-using maps when the story line overlaps. Most re-used maps are used in a different way and set an appropriate time line in relation to the other campaigns. I have also never experienced any bugs (apart from the aliens) - although I only recently got into it and allowed steam to keep it up to date (I may have missed them). In addition - I haven't checked out the multi-player yet - so no relative judgement. GREAT USE OF DIRECT X 11 - worth upgrading your graphics card - not too expensive to pick up a DX 11 card that would run this game now.

Overall - I enjoyed it. A great break from war shooters with great atmosphere and graphics. I look forward to the potential sequel and would love the idea of an expansion - using the same engine just extending the campaigns.

I had trouble deciding on a 9 or 10 rating. A little more work on the alien story line with some additional guidance on objectives would solve the occasional 'how the hell do you get there' frustration (not really a problem for the marine or predator - but then they don't crawl over walls or ceilings and duck through mazes of vents). Really worth a 9.5 for me :)

Great game, very enjoyable ripping a marines head out of his stomach with his spine still attached.
Has a very nice single-player that has a good 6 hours if all campaigns are mixed together.
Multi-player is a action packed, fun experience that will keep you going for hours and hours.
Definitely a game rated 10 out of 10.

Overall this game has nice graphics either on DX9 or DX11, it does not really mater, the achievements are also nice to get and the singleplayer offers a great experience no other game has.
Now to the Multiplayer! I have to say that the multiplayer is just not worth it, the aliens are very hard to control, and everyone is just looking to brutally kill everyone and another disadvantage this game has is that you are STUCK while you finish your oponnent that means you are vulnerable for every attack for about 3-4 seconds so watch out how and when you kill your enemy. You can also choose from 3 various races (Human, Alien, Predator) and various skins for every race just to enhance gameplay. Multiplayer is not great.

To me this game was the greatest of the AVP series. I absolutely loved it! I like playing the 3 stories and the survivor mode. Plus online was very fun. Graphics are just amazing and game-play is great. I think this was one of the greatest games ever created for AVP. The only sad part was that there we're not many servers. I suggest this game!

Being able to play as the alien has to be, by far, the best way to play this game. Playing as the space marine was kind of boring to me and the predator seemed either too easy or too difficult.

A lot of people have mics and it has an easy oneclick mute function for those annoying people. Species Team Deathmatch, Predator Hunt and Infestation are extremely fun. The three different species handle very differently from one another. It might seem unbalanced at first, but when you start understanding how to play as the different species you can win with any of them. As an Alien you can get incredible speed and jump from wall to wall with ease once you've mastered it(it's a bit disorienting in the beginning) Thanks to this you can surprise flank your enemies and outmanouver them. Great sense of freedom and power when you get good at it.

Marines are slow but powerful and together they can be quite hard to kill with their firepower and ability to block lighter attacks. The iconic motion tracker is spooky as usual and not always reliable. They are scary to play as and do well when together in a group.

Predators are arguably the most dangerous species but they can't take that much damage. Stealth, strength and awesome weaponry and gadgets from the movies that are differently hard to master makes this the most versatile species to play as.

I highly recommend this game if you are into multiplayer :) The single player is good practice and it has interesting story elements that add to the universe of AVP but the characters are flat, boring and it's over very quickly.

    Artificial Intelligence
The marines are beyond stupid, they show no recognition of each others existence and they show no emotion when they discover that one of there comrades has mysteriously and violently died. The Alien AI is also pretty stupid, they run directly towards you or they run up a wall only to jump back down again.

    Marine Campaign
The Marine campaign consists of walking around empty corridors and reaching marines moments after they die proving that the AI is so unbelievably stupid that the developers have to kill them all off using scripted events, there's no point going into detail about the Marine campaign because its really really generic. If you were looking for a Colonial Marines Squad experience you're out of luck because you spend the entire campaign on your own. Also a fellow Marine called Tequila talks into your ear for most of the game and she will annoy the hell out of you.

    Alien Campaign
The Alien Campaign starts off quite promising but quickly goes downs hill when you meet the mentally retarded Marines who have no knowledge of each others existence, so you spend the entire campaign scuttling about killing off Marines one by one until the game tells you that you've won.

    Predator Campaign
The Predator Campaign is really really boring, you simply jump about killing off mentally retarded Marines and having the occasional fight against a group of Aliens using disorientating melee attacks.

    Multiplayer
The multiplayer is a tiny tiny tiny little bit better than the singleplayer but not something I would pay money for. The multiplayer maps are really small and most of them are recycled from the singleplayer. The multiplayer is almost dead and the only gamemode played is Team Deathmatch.

    Overall
I can't believe that people are calling this the best game ever because its awful compared to its predecessor Alien vs Predator 2. If you want a real AvP experience then go play Alien vs Predator 2 because its a fantastic game that has stood the test of time.

All three species can collide in some intense multiplayer fun.

Now I have given it another go and suddenly it comes off as absolutely brilliant ! If u take the time to look the DX11 graphics are very-very beautiful, detailed and atmospheric. The sounds are authentic, very intense and create a stressful mood. The animation work on the aliens as they move along the ceilings and walls is superb and you feel very alone and frantic as they come from multiple angles.

Incredibly I cannot play the game more than a couple of hours at a time before needing a break for the sensory system. However, it is an experience to savour. Fans of AVP should not hesitate as quality-wise it is hands and feet above usual movie-tie ins. Just get through the first couple of missions and embrace the stress: From then onward it is a brilliant shooter brimming with atmosphere.

    Vastly underrated.

I'm a little surprised by the rock-paper-scissors approach to melee combat, it's awkward at first and the idea of a human 'beating' a predator or alien in melee is kind of weird, but after a while you get used to it. Multiplayer is pretty fun, it's a little easier to find a match now with dedicated servers, but there is a steep learning curve, so don't expect to just jump in as an alien and tear people to shreds. It would have been great if this AvP's multiplayer had been set up similar to AvP2's, with different classes and expanded weaponry. Ranked games...well you can use them if you want, but then you will run into yet more issues. If the host gets pissed off and quits, the game is over and you return back to the menu to look for another game. You will often join a game, and thanks to the messed up mellee system, and the tiny size of all 6 maps (yes, you read that right; this is a multiplayer release which comes with a grand total of 6 maps), the games will often end in under 2 minutes. Considering it may well have taken you 5 minutes to get into the game, thats a problem, especially when combined with the fact that when the game ends, you are again returned back to the main menu, where your pain starts all over again. What i dont get also is why do dead people, creatures, predators sill produce a heat signiture? The still glow red/orange/white, even though they are dead when using Pred vision instead of being black/dark blue or slowly turning that color if you just killed them like the Scorpion in the original Predator film? Most of the AVP films, predator films and alien(s) films happen at night or in the darkness of space but for some reason only the first part of he marine mission is in building full of dark corridors, once you get outside its day time and kills the atmospheres that was so great in the first portion. I was really looking forard to this game and i have been really let down, sure the multi-player may be decent for those who love multi-player and think they own everyone else but for me it was the single player stories that would make/break this game and unfortunately its been downright demolished. The game is buggy and slightly broken also, atleast the PC version, for instance as the predator i was trying to jump onto a piece of land below me but the cursor just wouldnt let me do it, it wouldnt change to the "open" position, i then tried to "distract" someone to that place, again wouldnt work, yet a piece of land further away would allow me to do this. Also the "acting" is bad or badly scripted, for example one of the marines is talking about the "creatures" after them, its not only aliens they have to worry about he says "why does everything hear hate our guts", come on its an 18 game "hate our guts"? He should say things "why is it everything on this goddam planet is trying to kill us" or "why is everything trying to fucking kill us man". They should have taken most of their inspiration for this from the film "Aliens" with more dialogue like the colonial marines in that, they kind of do but get it seriously wrong by trying to emulate Vasquez as a female soldire called "Tequila"... They should have tried to emulate Hudson, Hicks. the Sargeant at the start shows promise but you only see him very briefly at the start and then the next time you see him you have to kill him because hes been impregnated, they should have allowed you to interact with him more, even fight along side him. They throw you into solo play far too quickly also and the way they do that isnt even with a good story because you get knocked out as pretty much right away in the drop ship and from then on only see semi blacked out fragments of whats happening, very very lame. Seems instead of using the Aliens as a reference they used one of those crappy AVP films, i know its an AVP game but they could have incorporated the Aliens story/vibe, which they do, but only briefly and not that well. poor poor poor effort, even the decent graphics cant make up for a poor storyline. Sad, lets hope Colonial Marines gets released and they learn from the mistakes/shortfall of this game or have a better team on it to begin with. Expand

Basically you stand in front of your enemy blasting away and see who falls first. Wheres the correct smart gun sound? How about including the mini gun from AVP 1? Predator - recharge your system through a power outlet? Did rebellion even watch the movies? Alien power cell is in his frikkin arm pad. It has the power of a nuclear reactor? Why would you need to recharge? Using energy for mines? They're not energy powered. They are MINES. Did rebellion play avp2? You can't melee with combi stick? You can only throw it? Retards. Where is the predator net? Where is the spear gun? Where is the pred pistol? Did they do any research on the characters before making the game? Jeesh. Did they speak with Lance Hendrickson or just tell about the series or did they tell him to just read some lines? The energy for the pred would recharge over time. And where is the freedom of movement for the pred? He's only limited to jumping to certain designated areas?? Aliens - only ones who can break glass or lights? Physics only applies to them? They can only crouch all the time? They can't stand (well the bots in single player can stand but you can't - that is just bizzare). You have to go through some kind of wierd combination to do a head bite. You can't evolve like in avp 2. Wheres the pred alien? Where's the pretorian? Miscellaneous - human bots can detect cloaked aliens like nobodys business but can't seem to see aliens hiding in the dark. However, androids cannot detect cloaked predators better than humans even though some of them can actually cloak themselves. what's up with a double barrel shotgun? Single pump action or semi auto Remington shotgun. Where's the 3 round burst for a marine pistol (not in movies). There are more problems but I'm just getting pissed writing this review so I'm going to stop here. What a total waste of money. IMO the avp 1 (the first one) was the best game to capture the aliens movie. The developers claim they did a lot of research and took feedback from users as to what they liked best about the prior avps and would incorporate those features into the new avp game. They didn't. These morons just don't get it. Flashy graphics do NOT make a good game. Average graphics with attention to game play and details is what makes a good game. Originally I was going to give this game a 3 but now it's down to a 2 because of all the lies and hype customers were fed before this game came out. For those of you who gave this game high ratings, I invite you to play the previous games and make your rating off of them, keeping in mind that the earlier game are almost 8 years old now. Expand

In short if you are hoping for an enjoyable fps experience look elsewhere. This game is tedious to the xtreme. I enjoyed left for dead far more ... the playability of l4d is far superior to this poor excuse of a game. Unfortunately they are now doing with the games what they have done with the movies...cutting corners and paying as little attention to detail and quality as their budget sheets allow. It is a shame to see such an incredbile franchise be subjected to profit over quality. But can you really balme them when people keep on buying in the vain hope that there will be a quality product made at some point? My advice to everyone: the next aliens, avp etc title that comes out, play it pirated first and if its good buy it. I wish I had not wasted my money on this one. Truly not a bad game at all. For 5 bucks (on sale) and a few hours of your time, AvP can excite you in many ways. Three different campaigns (Marines, Aliens, Predators), each with their own game play mechanics and storyline that all tie into one scenario. A good thriller worth more attention, but less money.

I see people complain about this game not being AvP2. Well I agree with them story wise. Gameplay wise on the other hand I much prefer this one over 2. One of the main reasons has to be the speed of the aliens. Multiplayer wise this was such an issue I usually went predator or marine because the alien was too slow to get the drop on anyone.

Single player is short, but amusing. I enjoyed the aliens since they were able to crawl on any surface and assassinate anyone. The multiplayer is fun, but not so many people are online (as I see it). The marines have a good set of weapons, and the predators I find to be op from their gear. I would recommend to this for any one if they see a good satisfying price on this.

It's just awesome to play as a predator and use his advanced technology, suck as the plasma gun, the smart disk, and the cloaking device.

After this you have the opportunity to use even his ,,fatalities,, by decapitating the humans, the xenos, and make them trophies, brutal, yes, but is exactly like what we've seen in the movies, to and using them here is more than great.

The beginning of the Predator's plot takes first place on his homeworld where you learn the basics, parts of their training, and their environment.

The action is very intense and interesting, when the humans violate their sacred pyramid and steal their wrist bracer.

Marine's plot begins somewhere in the facility where you must fight your way out and during this you'll have to kill aliens and other enemies.

The main weapons are the same ones featured in the movies, like the pistol, the pulse rifle, and others. They're very well modeled and textured, and even the sound is like the one from the movies, the same solid sound.

Alien campaign begins in the same place like the marine's does, where you must fight your way out of the room where you're verified by the humans for your strength, intelligence, and skills after this you'll have to escape that room.

This is how the plot is set, the game play is fluent but is also linear, when you must complete the objectives to progress though the story, so there aren't many places you can miss.

In terms of game play, alien's campaign is nicely done, but could've been better with also an 3rd person camera view.

Each race has it's own abilities and advantages, for instance the marines have their cool weapons, but they're fragile people.

The AI for both friendlies and enemies is well developed, they don't make stupid attacks, and the alien AI is well made, as they use the environment exactly as they should, and that gives a nice experience.
The visuals and level design look promising, with detailed textures and models, sweet lightning and particle effects, so the game has potential.

The game even has a multiplayer game mode, having available several modes, such as Deathmatch and Species Deathmatch, and as each race has it's own advantages, this makes the things more interesting.

However the multiplayer really has a major issue, being that there are very few maps, so will be a problem when you're playing, as you might get bored after a while.

So basically the game has a good replay value, a sort of memorable journey and experience so you'll have a good time when you'll play it.

My only real complaint about the single player is that it was much too short but it does manage to keep me coming back to play it again and again.

The combat side of the game is where I found most of the annoyances. Grabbing enemies as a predator while other enemies are around is a guaranteed death, same with the alien. Alien sneaking with surface transition is very annoying because of the camera, I wish it would lock onto your prey or something.

You have the chance to play as marine, alien, and predator and although the story line in each campaign is independent of the others they do exist within the same story arc. I really enjoyed all three campaigns, although the predator gameplay and mechanics were the least satisfying. The marine campaign is the most challenging, as you often feel underpowered against the aliens, but it’s not frustrating and this vulnerability certainly adds to the already considerable tension. Playing as an alien can be disorientating at times and the movement system takes some getting used to but it’s worth it for the fun to be had stalking the marines and scientists. Playing as a predator, although still enjoyable, was not quite as much fun, and I found the gameplay and combat systems in this campaign less convincing than in the others. The atmosphere throughout is impressive and the graphics are good (although some animations are a little muddy in colour). The voice acting is also good, which helps to add to the compelling atmosphere. It isn’t a long game (I took my time, but still completed the three campaigns in about 15 hours) and the multiplayer seems pretty much dead (I did manage a few games, but only with friends) but if you can get it on sale, as I did, it’s well worth a few quid. Despite its flaws this game successfully recreates the atmosphere and edginess of the movies and should not disappoint fans of the two franchises.

2, The devs promised loads of DLC which never happened and what did come was just multiplayer maps- no good coop play styles, no coop campain or other story and no additional singelplayer DLC.

For 15 eur the game is a bargin, but at 45 eur its too short.

Overall a decent game. Parts of it scream "port", such as the tacked-on multiplayer interface (dedicated servers came after release, and the menu to get to them is unintuitive). The game would have been much better with just a couple more patches.

The game's not bad. Three great campaigns tell one, interesting story. Predator is the easiest, and the marine is the hardest one. Xenomorph's story is the most interesting one, you follow him ever since its "birth" to becoming one of the most powerful Aliens. The game's linear, but many FPS video games are so, and it's a fine piece of game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Playing the marine is very VERY atmospheric and if you enjoyed the scares and jumps and the fear factor the radar brings to the table in the second game is right up your street, the predator has been redone very well, the controls really show how much thought rebellion has put into this, when all 3 races feel beautifull executed. The game stays true to the franchise and fans like myself will love it, but will probably be left wanting more. And like myself will go check out the multiplayer scene. This is another strong point for AVP and the game modes are a lot of fun, dedicated servers are not quiet there yet, but atleast there in the pipeline, the current system feels a little slow, if not well structered, and the action like the first player seems very chopped up and not to fluid, like watching a tv program with the adverts being 5 mins long to fill up the hour. The game is beautiful visually and controls like a dream but the action is either to short or just to chopped up to give you the punch that the others did. Expand

It is very clear that multiplayer was the focal point of this game's development. It is well balanced, well conceived, and very fun. The multiplayer map design, while there isn't a huge number of maps, is top notch. When the dedicated servers are released, the multiplayer on this one will be a top-notch gaming experience. Certainly better than the disaster of MW2, but still not quite up there with L4D, TF2, and Battlefield Bad Company 2. Of course, it is a different type of game from most online shooters, so it's experimental mechanics tend to make fans of frenetic, high-octane multiplayer games like TF2 or MW2 shy away. However, if you were a fan of the previous iterations of AvP (both of them,) this game shouldn't disappoint. The controls are different, and it is definitely NOT the same game as those, but if you can get past the fact this isn't AvP2 with better graphics, you should enjoy this game. Expand

Multiplayer detected around 15 people playing, so yeh.. I tried one game, got a ping of 133 and well, quit.. Bring back dedicated servers please. I was pissed off quite a bit that there was no coop. I hate the way the industry defines "coop" these days. Coop traditionally means playing through a CAMPAIGN with a mate. NOT a multiplayer mode, where you're just playing against bots. Which is what survival mode is in this. There's no campaign based around it, it's just a multiplayer mode. L4D is coop because there's 4 CAMPAIGNS based around it. So when Steam sticks up coop on the store page, it's a bit fucking rich. Quake 3 had team deathmatch with bots, that doesn't make it coop. UT2004 had that survival mode too, IT DOESNT MAKE IT COOP. This is more to do with Steam's store page selling a game incorrectly though. So bleh.. So ofcourse my friend and I were annoyed at that, considering coop was what made the original AVP series so much fun. Playing through the first couple of levels as the Marine was very fun. We both agreed it scared the shit out of us not having the quicksave. It's easily the best campaign and the most fun you'll have with this game. My friend stopped playing after that. I then finished the game in one go. The Alien campaign is.. fun, but it doesn't take you through the birth cycle like the old AvP did. So the whole campaign, although great fun, gets repetitive VERY quickly. And thus by the end, you're wanting it to end, so you can just move onto the Predator. The Predator campaign annoyed me. He's nowhere near as fun to play now. So much of his toys and kit are missing it's ridiculous. The overshoulder laser cannon sounds awful, and is fairly useless at killing anything. The spear is great, but why doesn't it stick in the model, you throw it at them and it just disappears.. kind've lame from a game boasting DX11 tech. Finally, the bosses are just awful. Playing on normal, some were too easy, and then out of nowhere they became incredibly difficult. The final boss on the Predator campaign was just too easy. And felt very anti-climactic really. The Praetorian was just too hard, but I eventually did it somehow. The two Predators and the Elite Predator were far too easy for a normal mode setting. Also despite dxdiag thinking I have DX11, apparently AvP doesn't, bit lame but the game looks amazing anyway. It's a shame Rebellion made the stupid decision of not putting in dedicated servers from the get-go. Because the demo was a lot of fun on the PC, and the different modes look great. Some press have given this game 5/10 or 50% scores. Thats just harsh.. the game is very well made and you're not going to see a better looking AvP game for a while. Aside from that, it offers the same package as any Halo game, and is just as good. All it's missing is the stupid orchestral music and slightly better voice acting. So in summary, not great. But worth a look if you can get it at bargain bin price, or a rental. Expand

I am missing the good true PC titles, and kinda sick of all this "oh we have to make it available for the console market" crap Meh I'll go play some serious sam HD with friends, yes it's got ancient mechanics (and visuals) compared to lot of popular shooters, but it delivers a few things all these major new titles can't, cause they are made for a consumerist market that are more concerned with graphics and hype than good gameplay (read: modern warfare 2... No it's not a terrible game, it has fun sides, when it works right, but it's just unimaginative, broken and hyped up) Anyway I am digressing, if this new AvP title had coop campaign I would give it about 2000 out of 10, but it doesn't so it's kind of a letdown right now, still haven't tried survivor mode with friends though, might be good fun. Am capable of kicking your butt within seconds. =P And have played a total of 53.6hrs according to Steam. Now the review, this game is practically another popular game, just better. On a PC, the visuals are brilliant, the controls are easy to pick up and the Alien is done quite well. Can take a while to get used to the disorientation, but once that's done, it's a complete blast. Campaigns are fun, and on the hardest setting are quite difficult. As a Marine, it's very easy to die from an exploding Alien's head spewing acid everywhere. Rather annoying, but makes sense. As always, easy is very easy, hardest is fun as. Multiplayer has some minor issues, most involve the lack of people playing this game leading to a lack of decent servers. I've had the server shut down, server fps being so bad we all lag out, etc. But nothing to do with the game itself. Basically, if you liked MW2 and want a change, you'll love this game. No ninja builds, but Pred stealths and plasy = :D:D:D Now some responses to other reviews: If you play the easy campaigns on X360, it's going to suck. The controls will be clunky, the visuals not so great. But it's a console, which many reviewers would do well to remember. They. Suck. Some other reviewers dislike the game because the campaigns are extremely similar. Well, that's the point. You play the same setting from three different point of views. That of the Marine, Alien and Predator. Marines it's a good old fashioned bug hunt in extremely cinematic fashion. As the Aliens, you play the lab rat breaking out. As the Predator, well, you do what Predators always do. :P Another thing reviewers are going on about is their computer crashing during cutscenes or in the game itself. Guess what, you need a computer made after 2000 to play this. Your old linux/95 box just won't be able to handle it. Surprise! Other people just don't seem to have played it at all. The Pred does get alternate vision modes, Multi Player (MP) is almost completely different from Single Player, the ai is at least equal to MW2, etc. MP is extremely balanced, surprisingly well done. The Aliens aren't completely over powered, Predators health relies on their energy so you can't just blast plasma cannon as much, and Marines have enough firepower to win as much as they lose. Maps are fun, co-op survival is a blast till you nade your friend. Summing up, ignore the reviews and play this game. Not on a console, not on a 10yr old computer. Play it for more than 10 seconds, play MP for a few hours AFTER playing the campaigns. It's much easier to get used to the controls that way, you die less. =P Play the campaigns on a difficulty setting above easy and normal. Cause really.. Those modes are for people who "are new to first person shooters". Same as all other games. If you like shooters and the feel of MW2, you'll love this game. Not the greatest game ever, but on my list that's American McGee's: Alice for the surrealistic headtrip so.. Most fun I've had in a shooter in years anyway. Expand

I've had a BLAST with this game for awhile now. If you like aliens, predators, gore, as well as intense fast-paced close-quarters combat, then you'd love this game! Aside from the large numbers of noobs/nooblets who kept on complaining how this game 'sucks' due to their inability to play properly using an Alien or a Pred with the constant spam on 'E' button, this game is worth the price for others who were more geared towards close-quarters combat. CoD fanboys will hate it for the lack of range the weapon offers--and the fact there's no hacking tool for them to 'own'--while others would enjoy the game for the challenge it provides to face off against well-deserving 'pros' and their appropriate use of Aliens, Mariens, and Predators. I don't understand why this game has endured so much criticism. Admittedly it is a little repetitive and the single player campaigns are short, but I had fun with it. For me the three single player campaigns each captured the feeling of being an Alien, a Predator and a Marine. The Alien spends a lot of time hiding and running, but it would have to if it wanted to survive. The I don't understand why this game has endured so much criticism. And the Marine is constantly feeling the pressure of having two far stronger and faster creatures coming after them. Fans of the original Alien/Aliens and Predator films (like myself) will get more out of this than others, but it is still a very good game for what it is. Expand

a game that suffers from lack of polish. had rebellion proof read their work (or released the game 5 years ago), AVP could have been epic. but unfortunately, the same could be said about most PC remakes.

Well, personally i like the game, even though i haven't played the old avp's. This game amazing in DirectX 11, i can see why on consoles they say it looks like utter crap. Once the dedicated servers come out for this on PC. The multiplayer community will skyrocket. MW2 Kids will hate this game, and AvP fans will love it a lot. The singleplayer campaigns are fun, and interesting to see what you can do. The multiplayer, is pretty fun when you play with friends. (Played Species TDM.) 3 Teams is somewhat different from other multiplayer games. Like some people said "AvP is a love or hate game." And i love it. Don't listen to the crap reviewers who gave this game a 5. It's no MW2 or any other big title but, it is certainly entertaining to rip the spine of a marine. Predator class is limited and is taken every time I have wanted to try it. Marine weapons are underpowered for such a close quarter game which means instant death and predators are a trick to get down and doing an instant kill attack leaves you vulnerable to be killed at the leisure of any other player around.

Better than first AVP, I was disappointed in the game overall. The early levels were unique and well designed after that, they get boring. In the marine missions, when the flamethrower was used on the aliens, it was frustrating because you can't get away once they are on fire because they grab you and explode, also there was no crouch or take cover when fighting andriods (why not? the andriods did). It would have been great if they would of increased the weapon inventory and ammo capacity and not have made the pistol with infinit ammo. It made me lose some suspense with that. In the alien missions I felt I was just going thru the motions since there too many buttons to press to even navigate efficiently. The use of the heavy attack was way too slow, and what was the point of sprint button if I was going to sprint anways, to me it seemed pointless, the transition mode button was pointless as well, when I could jump on the wall. Nevertheless I felt frustrated with the navigation alien overall. Another issue why the alien could not spit acid? during the game the alien AI was able to. And what was the point of being able to bite the victims head after the human was dead? The predator mission to me were the most disappointing, cloak did not work against aliens and some the in game mini scripts I could not even see because I was overwhelmed by aliens. The cannon having to be recharged was stupid, so I did not even used it. The spear did not come back to the predator it just refreshed the crosshairs, which lost it's "movie" likeness appeal to me.I did not even used the mine since there was no situation that actually call for it, so it seemed useless to me. The later levels of the predator missions, I could not reach some of the collectables just because the level was not designed to reach them (pointless). The storyline was great, the voice acting was awesome, the sound effects and features were outstanding. The game mechanics were ok, with the exception of the issues I mentioned earlier. The graphics were ok, I hoped for a WOW factor while playing the DX 11 version of the game, they could of done less lighting overall in the game to add more suspense. To me the multiplayer part it of this game is needs alot of improvements, such as a lagmetter and being able to connect and disconnect faster (instead of stages). And the ranking system seems to add no benifit. This could of been a block buster game but it's not. The game took approx 11 hours to finish and it crashed 5 times. Maybe with some patches it will get where it needed to be. Expand

Marine campaign is short and re-uses lots of the levels from the other two campaigns but is almost on par with the crap your pants factor the original one had in terms of scare and suspense factor. Graphics look pretty good maxed out and the sounds are pretty impressive (predator vision and heat sounds could be tuned to reflect more from the original and movies.) Now the bad..and boy does it suck for me to lay all this out. Installation, man what a painfull process, took three attempts to install, after that took another hour just to get the game to run (my computer far exceeds the recommended requirements for the game in addition.) Finally after starting the game, the horrid stuttering began, it would ruin several parts of the game where i would get blasted by opponents or make a cutscene un-watchable due to the horrid lag/slideshow the game becomes for about 15 seconds, the down part it is random regardless even if you turn down your graphics quality. This has been happening to many users and reported on Sega's and steams forums and hopefully rebellion is making a patch. Second, the controls are horrid, responsiveness is terrible even with "mouse lag" turned off and feels very sluggish, alien ceiling walking is annoying too since there is a significant delay in between transitioning surfaces also (easier with transition set to auto but makes it more difficult to execute simple jumps.) Third, they reused every single level almost in all three campaigns so if you get that feeling of deja-vu you are right, you just played that level as a different species. No dedicated servers still, empty promises falling on some really upset AvP community fans ears. Really short campaign also, I expected much more replay value for $50 game. They had a good idea with the game but just delivered it literally in its late alpha early beta build, this game is not done and it show's. I hope with a nice big decent patch and some decent DLC it should make it much better but at this point in time it may be to little to late. Expand

They could have done so much more with this game, take a look at the intensity of AVP1 and AVP2. I finished the game in a single day, i had some fun but it was not nearly as scary as i hoped it would be. The best AVP game to date, it looks fantastic and the game play is immersing and addictive with good storyline and exciting events. Acheivements and nightmare difficulty modes give it added replay value. Mulitplayer is fun although the Dedicated servers are not as good as they should be and because of this the game is an 8 for me instead of a 9.

  1. A good campaign, the marine one, and some variety in gameplay mechanics provide a quite fun experience. Unfortunately some ideas lack polish and the other two-thirds of the single player are just not as good as they were supposed to be.
  2. Aliens Vs Predator is a standard First Person Shooter, but thanks to the Predator's and Xenomorph's campaigns, it entertains old and new players. Even the multiplayer mode is funny and well structured, but the graphics engine is not that good.
  3. The controls for Predators and Xenomorphs may be a bit tricky and the AI sometimes doesn't show any "Intelligence" at all, but nevertheless: AvP is a most-have for fans of the movies, as well as the games - especially if you're into absolute multiplayer-mayhem and dont mind "some" gore.
