I.W.M.M.B I Want My Money Back!!! this is the biggest rip off iv ever bought the graphics are the only flashy thing about it the online play is run around pressing E and the single player is the exact same thing. The story was so dull that i have marks on my head from banging my head on the keyboard saying "I dont care! get to the game already!!!"

This game was complete garbage for $49.99. Of all the FPS games out there that have crouch where you "wouldn't really need it," I would say that this game needs it. One of the predators trademark positions is being cloaked and minimialized in an elevated positon. The first two AVP games had crouching, why go a step back? It's worthless trying to do it regardless of technical issues because the campaigns are just so boring and have nothing to grab you. Multiplayer is crap due to it's lackluster layout and I don't like the avp game community anymore because they continue you support this juvenile attempt at entertainment. Why defend the leaving out of crouching? Expand

I've seen myself spend hours upon hours in a single server (they have a dedicated server browser now!). The single player is great. Predator feels strong, alien fragile and fast, and marine terrifying. Over 6 hours in each campaign. That's 18+ hours. Some reviewers are expecting a call of duty type game with every shooter out... this is not that. It's much more to master and get a hold of. I only scrutinize it on the fact that the ranks mean nothing due to skins doing absolutely nothing... they could have taken some ideas from AVP2 in that area. REMEMBER: It has a dedicated server list now under player match. It's excellent. 9.5/10 Right on Rebellion. Expand

This game is probably the most lazy excuse I have seen in a LONG time for a game. If Rebellion wants a real developer leader to help with gaming ideas, get a hold of me. There are some other games out there that are free and have better game mechanics then this one. A true disappointment, wow I'm a pred, alien, or human, nothing special to it. Old games Like Doom had more substance to them then this one. Gave this game a 0 to help the overall review for the game be more realistic, pretty sure the only people giving this game a high review are getting paid to do so. This game was supposed to be a multi player game and you can see that in the single player, however there are no dedicated servers, so if you're lucky enough to even find a game then you'll have to deal with the horrible ping and constant drops. If you are dead set on playing this game in multi player make sure you have some friends that are willing to get this as well. Even then however the multi player is uninspired and pretty boring. One of the more irritating aspects of the game is the focus on melee combat and cinematic kills, once you figure out the melee mechanics it's not as annoying, but having to stand around for a few seconds to either stealth kill or trophy kill someone will irritate the shit out of you if you missed someone, who can literally stand next to you and shoot you until the animation is done, of course you'll be dead well before that, granted they are pretty cool, but get old after you've seen them all. Going to wrap this up even though I could go on with some other flaws. If you like the aliens and predator genre buy AVP2, you'll get a better game and save alot of money. If you want a good multiplayer game, get Left 4 Dead 2. Expand

First off, a little about me so this review will make sense. I've played this game, single and mulitplayer, on a PC, capable of delivering a decent framerate. I've played this game, single and mulitplayer, on a PC, capable of delivering a decent framerate. I'm a gamer, logged hundreds of hours in games. Am capable of kicking your butt within seconds. =P And have played a total of 53.6hrs according to Steam. Now the review, this game is practically another popular game, just better. On a PC, the visuals are brilliant, the controls are easy to pick up and the Alien is done quite well. Can take a while to get used to the disorientation, but once that's done, it's a complete blast. Campaigns are fun, and on the hardest setting are quite difficult. As a Marine, it's very easy to die from an exploding Alien's head spewing acid everywhere. Rather annoying, but makes sense. As always, easy is very easy, hardest is fun as. Multiplayer has some minor issues, most involve the lack of people playing this game leading to a lack of decent servers. I've had the server shut down, server fps being so bad we all lag out, etc. But nothing to do with the game itself. Basically, if you liked MW2 and want a change, you'll love this game. No ninja builds, but Pred stealths and plasy = :D:D:D Now some responses to other reviews: If you play the easy campaigns on X360, it's going to suck. The controls will be clunky, the visuals not so great. But it's a console, which many reviewers would do well to remember. They. Suck. Some other reviewers dislike the game because the campaigns are extremely similar. Well, that's the point. You play the same setting from three different point of views. That of the Marine, Alien and Predator. Marines it's a good old fashioned bug hunt in extremely cinematic fashion. As the Aliens, you play the lab rat breaking out. As the Predator, well, you do what Predators always do. :P Another thing reviewers are going on about is their computer crashing during cutscenes or in the game itself. Guess what, you need a computer made after 2000 to play this. Your old linux/95 box just won't be able to handle it. Surprise! Other people just don't seem to have played it at all. The Pred does get alternate vision modes, Multi Player (MP) is almost completely different from Single Player, the ai is at least equal to MW2, etc. MP is extremely balanced, surprisingly well done. The Aliens aren't completely over powered, Predators health relies on their energy so you can't just blast plasma cannon as much, and Marines have enough firepower to win as much as they lose. Maps are fun, co-op survival is a blast till you nade your friend. Summing up, ignore the reviews and play this game. Not on a console, not on a 10yr old computer. Play it for more than 10 seconds, play MP for a few hours AFTER playing the campaigns. It's much easier to get used to the controls that way, you die less. =P Play the campaigns on a difficulty setting above easy and normal. Cause really.. Those modes are for people who "are new to first person shooters". Same as all other games. If you like shooters and the feel of MW2, you'll love this game. Not the greatest game ever, but on my list that's American McGee's: Alice for the surrealistic headtrip so.. Most fun I've had in a shooter in years anyway. Expand

Aside from a few very promising aesthetic touches -like aliens comming out of the walls just like in the movies - the overall Level design is wantonly short, simple, not scary, asinine and uninvolved. The voice acting is also mundane and aweful. Not only that, but the levels are recycled throughout the campaigns and you literally play thru them backwards from species to species. The menu has no music like the original games and multiplayer is just an aweful die constantly to extremely speedy insta kill spammer alien nightmare. What is really bad too, is the fact that they recycled some parts of their levels and just put them out as a "map pack" that costs 7 dollars. Yet it received critical acclaim and is considered a great title. AvP comes along and gets bashed from people who don't think that it's 'scary'. A lot of players become frustrated very fast, when they are killed by someone who knows how to play. So the complaining starts about imbalance etc. But i can say, there is no imbalance at all. For me it feels like every class is "overpowered"... so its equal! :D I can win the matches no matter which class I'm playing. Depending on the classes the gameplay feels totally different. Know your strength and know your weakness, then you might succeed. Singleplayer: Of course singleplayer is short if you start it on "normal" (like most ppl do)... the Singleplayer is meant to be played on nightmare (or at least hard), because then it shows all of its potential. You have to act like the aliens or Predators in the movie. Rambo-Rush wont work. I like the atmosphere, but it should be more scary though. Multiplayer for sure the best about AvP. It is a lot of fun and offers many different Gamemodes. As long as you have skill you will not be bored playin em. Otherwise it could be frustrating to play predator hunt. Anyway, it has not enough maps (yet). Could be more! The dedicated servers are still in beta (17.03.10) so you have often lags and other problems. But at least it has dedicated servers, not like other modern games. The menu and server browser needs improvement as well. Anyway all this does not spoil the fun the gameplay offers... Graphics are awesome and the game runs totally smooth for me... I was a great fan of the AvP2, and now its AvP2010 which is my favorite! PS: the "crouch" argumentation is so dull... are you also complaining if new games do not have bullet-time? cause its a feature that many shooters have, why not others as well!? Crouch is not needed for this fast shooter with many melee elements. Though i have to admit it would be sometimes nice to have it. Expand

True to the AvP name, you can be a marine, an alien or a predator. The story is nothing special but you're not here to watch a movie, you're here to play a game! This game does some things no other game does but most won't care about that. The campaigns are relatively predictable but that's not a bad thing: nobody's ever given a Mario game a bad review because you True to the AvP name, you can be a marine, an alien or a predator. The campaigns are relatively predictable but that's not a bad thing: nobody's ever given a Mario game a bad review because you rescue the princess. Ironically, as a marine you kinda to that. The predator is restoring honor & the alien is following the queen's orders. A few of the neat things in the game I haven't seen anywhere else: you've got legs! your "body" actually impacts the world (try being against the wall as an alien & turning around), you can get knocked down (again, you see your body). Seems they went pretty far in making it so you interact with things in the game in more then a "shoot & push button" way. Only complaints I have (which I can overlook): predator is to weak compared to previous games, the marines have less firepower vs previous games (which would seem to compensate the weaker predator), aliens are stronger vs previous games (but won't swarm you in the dozens), marine/predator SP AI could be better. I only have a handful of complaints about this game. I was a big fan of AvP 2 and really anticipated the release of this game. 1. The developers re-used some of the single player campaign levels 3 times. As different characters, I want different levels. 2. The alien wall climb is no longer a toggled control. 3. The Game's 15GB size. I was expecting much more of a single player campaign due to the size. 6. Weak achievements and pathetic unlocks combined with peer-hosted multiplayer games makes the multiplayer essentially worthless. 7. A co-op mode would have improved game as-is tenfold. I would reccommend buying this game when it drops down to 30$ in cost. Expand

It's a dark and dismal game which lacks many FPS functions (such as crouch). There is absolutely nothing new about this game and it even lacks a workable multi-player experience. It's atually not as advanced as the FIRST AVP game! It is so very obvious that this game was created as fast as possible with as little creative talent as possible to save on paying high wages. Just create a lousy game and sell it using the success of the first Aliens vs Predator as the marketing tool. The AVP series is now officially DEAD. Great update to a classic title. Like one of the reviewers said, you will feel like you're playing an old-school game, but that's not a bad thing. On Dx11 the visuals shine but the Dx9 version is a little underwhelming. Single player doesn't take very long to complete and doensn't have an innovative story but is good at introducing you to all the gameplay concepts. Great update to a classic title. The 6 modes are very well constructed and play to the various combat techniques of the three species. The only problem with multiplayer, now that dedicated servers have been released, is that there are only 6 maps right now. If you bought a really nice rig and dont wish to cheapen it by playing a console like game on a computer then dont buy this game. Not enough weapon selection, marine movement is restricted to say the least, you cant even crouch. It feels like I am walking through quicksand and the jump is hilarious, or those sparks I see everytime my feet land? No wonder I cant jump, I have steel boots on lol!! No class weapons are you kidding me? You mean in multi I have to compete with 17 other players for a smartgun and grenades that respawn every 5min? Huge bullet lag, I squeeze the trigger and a half second later a bullet strikes the wall not but 1 ft ahead of me. No wheel up and down for weapon, again its for console with the pc as an after thought this also probably explains why crouch doesnt exist. Not enough buttons on the controller, forget computers have a keyboard. Wow you mean I cant even toggle wall walk off/on for aliens I guess that too would also require another button that a keyboard has but a 360/PS3 doesnt. The pred weapons are boring to say the least they all do the same thing nothing really unique about them, the trophy kills get boring quick and who wants a one hit button spam fest in multi anyway. The melee system is a joke, you auto hit people when in range of melee because rebellion thought it looked better (more realistic) than if you just have a hit box ahead of you and that you hit anything in that area you swing aim at. SEGA needs to leave the more complicated games alone and stick to sonic the freakin hedgehog. Rebellion sold out and this third bomb will cost them their reputation I hope they stick with console games because Rebellions PC venture will more than likely be a dead venture for a long time. Sega capitlized off of a pc franchise, ruined it with this pile of dung but made a ton of money on preorders due to the game being cheaply made and of course taking advantage of us PC people who were waiting 9 years for the next installment of a once untarnished franchise. Even the maps are really basic, whatever happened to being able to hide someplace away from aliens and preds? This game cant even hold a candle to AVP2. If you liked AVP2 then you will hate AVP. Why do only Aliens score in a game mode which humans win by staying alive??? The Matchmaking system. What is wrong with it? Well, first of all, when playing ranked, you select f.e. you want to play a Deathmatch. After hours of searching it finally finds a game you join. After more waiting, the game starts. When it ends, the game mode switches from Deathmatch to something else like Infestation. Which is just stupid. As well, there are fixed class limits, so you might be forced to play some class you don't like. Over and over again. Oh and you can't join ingame, so when you play a team deathmatch and your mates leave, well bad luck, you are alone and noone can join into the empty slots. Most people complain about the controls but If you are playing the PC version you will find them a whole lot better, but still kinda stiff (alien takes alot of getting used to). As for the Predator campaign, this is basically the same story as Alien, just not so easy and short. The aliens will be the only challenge here. Fortunately, its a little more interesting and story packed playing as the predator, not to mention that the trophy kills are cooler than the Alien's. Overall, its a disappoint game and only enjoyable if you like AvP. Expand

i only vote zero to help bring down the score to something more useful to anyone who considers buying it! i would give it a 4 for looking so damn pretty and then downed it to a 3 for the pretty cutscenes being buggy and crashing my computer after watching half of them! Looks is all this game has done well tho, probably (as someone said) using the AVP films as their main inspiration i only vote zero to help bring down the score to something more useful to anyone who considers buying it! i would give it a 4 for looking so damn pretty and then downed it to a 3 for the pretty cutscenes being buggy and crashing my computer after watching half of them! Looks is all this game has done well tho, probably (as someone said) using the AVP films as their main inspiration source. im a huge fan of the aliens and predator series and if you are a fan also who just hasnt bought this game yet...DONT! its just not worth it! i did not experience the overly dark screen problems some other gamers have had but i think i might darken my screen more to get some element of fear out of playing a marine! its just not scary! they have ruined it by having the aliens move so slow and giving them too much health, these aliens are morbidly obese im guessing!! less health more speed please! the combat in the avp 2 game was a total adrenaline rush! So very many awful choices have been made in this games creation! no crouching!? seriously!? predators can only use a powerfull jump by "focusing" to find glowing jump way points!...why restrict the players movement so much!? a marine holding his arms up will not stop a lunging aliens teeth and claws!! his arms would quickly be removed! so who thought that would be a good idea!? The marine campaign was supposed to be the best i heard but was very quickly ruined for me by the bad combat and lack of fear! also why does it take 3 head shoots to kill an alien on normal!? in the aliens film their head burst like ripened water melons on one or two shots!. i guess they had to do that as they had to give their extremely unfit, needs to go to the gym style aliens need some sort of advantage! predator campaign impressed me with the first little combat trial thing at the start, along with the hulking feel they gave to being a predator!predators and aliens stopping each others attacks i can understand but the marines should be very weak in that area! the enemy marine ai was obviously awful right from the start! also they broke the predator by giving him virtually no energy storage and no way to restore it without draining some marine tech, also gave him med kits......AVP2 had it better. and why has the amazing multi vision predator mask just turned in to thermal goggles?! where are the other visions?! AVP had 4 i was expecting more from this installment! I haven't even started the alien campaign as ive heard its the worst and may spare myself the dissapointment and just uninstall it. add to the awful game play choices the many errors and bugs many people have had, and it becomes questionable why they released this game in the state its in. So overall, i was expecting much more from this installment! It is a horrendous disappointment to realize i have waited so long for a new AVP game and this is what im presented with, combined with the thought that this sequel means there is no chance of a good version being released any time soon and i may have to wait another decade for something to beat AVP2, unless a mod that fixes the game is released. I am missing the good true PC titles, and kinda sick of all this "oh we have to make it available for the console market" crap Meh I'll go play some serious sam HD with friends, yes it's got ancient mechanics (and visuals) compared to lot of popular shooters, but it delivers a few things all these major new titles can't, cause they are made for a consumerist market that are more concerned with graphics and hype than good gameplay (read: modern warfare 2... No it's not a terrible game, it has fun sides, when it works right, but it's just unimaginative, broken and hyped up) Anyway I am digressing, if this new AvP title had coop campaign I would give it about 2000 out of 10, but it doesn't so it's kind of a letdown right now, still haven't tried survivor mode with friends though, might be good fun. To be honest, the game doesn't deserve an ultra-high or ultra-low score. It is a decent looking game (on PC anyway), with a decent soundtrack and okay action sequences. Also, The constant noise of the scanner which picks up noises is irritating. In saying that though, the Aliens and Predators sound effects are brutal and sound spot on. I think the introduction of the predator Campaign was not well-thought out. *SPOILER* They'd hardly put a 'Young blood' in some ancient pit with hordes of Aliens coming at it. They should have started with trap making and scouting first. That's not a big issue though. It's hard to 'score' games, because a score doesn't directly show how good of a game is. 90% is considered good, but it really should be considered a masterpiece given that score. Overall the graphics are nice, sound is good in some areas, and it plays fairly well (excluding the fact that the Marine can't jump over a small railing). I think 6 is a decent score. Game lacks the features and polish needed to be a good game. No team balancing during matches, no vote kick, laggy matchmaking, only 6 maps, short uninspired single player, marine motion detectors distinguish friendlies from enemies making predator hunt less fun. Dedicated servers implied at launch, but in reality they are about to enter a closed beta test on the dedicated server software.

There are numerous bugs which will cause you problems even getting the game started. Once you get it started you are faced with a multiplayer system which currently lacks the dedicated servers announced before launch. (They have only just started to work on building them, so it could easily be months before the game has functional D/S support). The player match system lets you browse for lobbies and lobbies only. You cannot join a game which is allready in progress. The player match system lists lobbies with no info on ping. In every single player match I have tried, my ping, and that of everyone else in the game except the host, has been 500 -1000. Ranked games...well you can use them if you want, but then you will run into yet more issues. If the host gets pissed off and quits, the game is over and you return back to the menu to look for another game. You will often join a game, and thanks to the messed up mellee system, and the tiny size of all 6 maps (yes, you read that right; this is a multiplayer release which comes with a grand total of 6 maps), the games will often end in under 2 minutes. Considering it may well have taken you 5 minutes to get into the game, thats a problem, especially when combined with the fact that when the game ends, you are again returned back to the main menu, where your pain starts all over again. It is a shame to see such an incredbile franchise be subjected to profit over quality. But can you really balme them when people keep on buying in the vain hope that there will be a quality product made at some point? It has been little under a week after the games was released (in the UK) and there has already been 1 patch released, while a second patch is due to be released on Monday 1st of March. Despite many complains of the lack of dedicated servers many people have already managed to play the multiplayer easily, many reaching up to level 40 and above, obviously DLC support is going to be introduced later in the game, so that makes it work keeping an eye on. The controls are fluid, especially as the alien, transitioning from wall to ceiling and back to the floor again couldn't be easier, balancing is near perfect, each species has their own specialty, making the MP environment extremely tense, never knowing what could be around the next corner. The combat system is innovative, making skill as a fighter count, spamming any old attack button will end up leaving you being slaughtered constantly, fast reactions and orientation are all important in this game. Lighting is fantastic, single player makes great use of it, from being able to make intense, frantic moments to being able to instill caution into the player as a shadow of an alien is cast on a wall as it is gnawing on a corpse of a fallen comrade around the next corner. Complaints with lack of innovation are absurd, yes they are rehashing some of the gameplay atmosphere from previous AVP games but that's simply because they were innovative then, and they're still innovative today. There is still much to be said about this game, but all in all I think this is easily the best representation of the Alien vs Predator universe in a video game that has graced the space on my hard drive, and that's why I think it deserves a 9/10. Marine campaign is short and re-uses lots of the levels from the other two campaigns but is almost on par with the crap your pants factor the original one had in terms of scare and suspense factor. Graphics look pretty good maxed out and the sounds are pretty impressive (predator vision and heat sounds could be tuned to reflect more from the original and movies.) Now the bad..and boy does it suck for me to lay all this out. Installation, man what a painfull process, took three attempts to install, after that took another hour just to get the game to run (my computer far exceeds the recommended requirements for the game in addition.) Finally after starting the game, the horrid stuttering began, it would ruin several parts of the game where i would get blasted by opponents or make a cutscene un-watchable due to the horrid lag/slideshow the game becomes for about 15 seconds, the down part it is random regardless even if you turn down your graphics quality. This has been happening to many users and reported on Sega's and steams forums and hopefully rebellion is making a patch. Second, the controls are horrid, responsiveness is terrible even with "mouse lag" turned off and feels very sluggish, alien ceiling walking is annoying too since there is a significant delay in between transitioning surfaces also (easier with transition set to auto but makes it more difficult to execute simple jumps.) Third, they reused every single level almost in all three campaigns so if you get that feeling of deja-vu you are right, you just played that level as a different species. No dedicated servers still, empty promises falling on some really upset AvP community fans ears. Really short campaign also, I expected much more replay value for $50 game. They had a good idea with the game but just delivered it literally in its late alpha early beta build, this game is not done and it show's. I hope with a nice big decent patch and some decent DLC it should make it much better but at this point in time it may be to little to late. Expand

The gaming for marine was exactly what I expected, if you played hard or nightmare of course. Through every corner even when there was no blinking motion detector, I was always scared. The headhuggers always had me worried no matter what situation, and some aliens seemed to find you when you needed it the least. Acid blood was the best part, because even though it P****d you off, you still loved the enjoyable effect knowing you had to run like a chicken if they got to close to shoot. The flamethrower wasn't overpowered to the extreme like the first AVP, and the effect to make walls of flames were also brilliant, even though not much used. Going back to the Predator campaign, the story all the way through was great. Stealth hunting, mines, explosive cannons, a spear to own faces, and dont forget the most favorite (and unfortunently abused) disk of doom! As you progress through the predators story, you also realize you have to use better tactics or your going to die quite quickly. Everything was mostly needed or you could in fact be compromised quite easily. Not to mention the great amount of blood and guts introduced by pulling a marines head through his chest and looking in there eyes. Now for the Alien campaign, you couldn't feel more like a lethal weapon then what was given. Being sneaky, finding advantage points, and harvesting your prey, was all I needed. Every time I would harvest a civilian, or tear a victim to shreds, I felt the utmost satisfaction in knowing I completed the part I needed, not mentioning how I also felt so bad knowing I just shoved my tail through a marines rectum up through his throat and out his mouth. The story lines were a bit confusion though inbetween, but you realize it near the end. Overall I give this game a 9 out of 10, simply because they didn't include stranded from AVP 2000! P.s. - To all members of the AVP community and the people reading this - THe little bugs and glitches will be patched over time, and all them unfair advantages you call, weren't so unfair when you were doing them to others. Without the range on Aliens tail, the marines would eat Aliens instead. Without the preds health and abilitys, he would be a slow running alien, and without the marines motion sensor and gun, he would be a harvesting snack food. Expand

This game is amazing! brilliant graphics, ai and gameplay overall to perfection. They only bad thing I find in this game was the lag on multiplayer but I never play multiplayer on any game so it doesn't bug me. If I'd love multiplayer I'd put an 8. But as I love singleplayer more I just have to give a 10.

The game is gold, and it kills me to see these critics slander something they don't love. But good thing I don't care for critics that much. Anyone else that has followed the Alien/Predator franchise(s) like I have, and loves everything they respectfully have brought to the table, will absolutely adore this game. And people that have no clue what a Predator or a Alien is, will certainly go to H*ll, but will also get a ton of enjoyment out of this game. The single player campaign is short yes, but all 3 campaigns (1 for each of the 3 species, Alien/Marine/Predator) will take up a good portion of your days. Beating the game on Nightmare, which is no easy task to complete and deffinently not possible in just 1 day, makes those short campaigns a LOT longer. The Marine campaign gives you the eerie Doom 3 feeling when walking through dark places with Aliens rushing you from all over. The Alien campaign really justifies being called the Alien campaign. The Predator campaign makes you feel that every blaster shot is taking down one of Arnold's comrades. The multi-player REALLY is where the game is at, hands down. And for people that might say otherwise because of an imbalance between races, should try to learn how to play their species better. Also people that don't care for Death Match(which I honestly didn't until now) might speak differently after playing a couple hours of spear-chucking/gun-blazing/tail-spiking at peoples heads. Death Match is your standard mode with the twist of 3 species. Marines can't hold their guns to the ground forever because death most often comes from above. However Mixed Species and Species Death Match modes are different than what you would think them to be. For it often drives everyone (especially marines) to huddle together to stay alive, which makes you feel like your playing Left 4 Dead... except with Aliens. Domination is your standard hold 3 points for as long as you can while holding enough skill to combat 3 different species trying to take those points from you and your team. I keep saying 3 different species because it takes skill to change your playstyle when facing off with any of the 3, plus uncommon differences from players. And for the icing on top of the cake, the reason why a majority of people bought this game, is for these 3 modes... Infestation: Everyone spawns as Colonial Marines, feeling pretty macho as a group at first then getting your group dwindled down to a couple marines changes your opinion on that first feeling. Hunter: Like above everyone starts as marines, but one person is selected as a Predator instead of a Alien. Also the key difference between this and Infestation(besides the obvious) is that when people die they aren't turned into Predators, like in Infestation you would turn into an Alien to aid your persecutor, you would respawn and get the chance to kill that Predator. Also the person selected as Predator is random and every person that kills the Predator, gets the chance to be him. Survivor: 4 Colonial Marines try to fend off the unlimited horde of Aliens that are sent in waves, but don't think you got time to heal, reload and gather supplies before the next wave is already on top of you. I liked this game, but I found out that there is no alien life cycle in it like AVP2. Massivley disappointing. It was so fun shooting those little bastards off the wall or being one and hunting down marines and predators. Looks like AVP2 is still our LAN game. Predator class is limited and is taken every time I have wanted to try it. Marine weapons are underpowered for such a close quarter game which means instant death and predators are a trick to get down and doing an instant kill attack leaves you vulnerable to be killed at the leisure of any other player around.

Great game. The Multiplayer game play is great, thus the high rating, however the Single Player lacks gameplay time, and a good feel. what a step backward from AVP 2. Here's a quick breakdown of the problems with this game: Marines - can't crouch. no night vision. can't lean around corner. Basically you stand in front of your enemy blasting away and see who falls first. Wheres the correct smart gun sound? How about including the mini gun from AVP 1? Predator - recharge your system through a power outlet? what a step backward from AVP 2. Basically you stand in front of your enemy blasting away and see who falls first. Wheres the correct smart gun sound? How about including the mini gun from AVP 1? Predator - recharge your system through a power outlet? Did rebellion even watch the movies? Alien power cell is in his frikkin arm pad. It has the power of a nuclear reactor? Why would you need to recharge? Using energy for mines? They're not energy powered. They are MINES. Did rebellion play avp2? You can't melee with combi stick? You can only throw it? Retards. Where is the predator net? Where is the spear gun? Where is the pred pistol? Did they do any research on the characters before making the game? Jeesh. Did they speak with Lance Hendrickson or just tell about the series or did they tell him to just read some lines? The energy for the pred would recharge over time. And where is the freedom of movement for the pred? He's only limited to jumping to certain designated areas?? Aliens - only ones who can break glass or lights? Physics only applies to them? They can only crouch all the time? They can't stand (well the bots in single player can stand but you can't - that is just bizzare). You have to go through some kind of wierd combination to do a head bite. You can't evolve like in avp 2. Wheres the pred alien? Where's the pretorian? Miscellaneous - human bots can detect cloaked aliens like nobodys business but can't seem to see aliens hiding in the dark. However, androids cannot detect cloaked predators better than humans even though some of them can actually cloak themselves. what's up with a double barrel shotgun? Single pump action or semi auto Remington shotgun. Where's the 3 round burst for a marine pistol (not in movies). There are more problems but I'm just getting pissed writing this review so I'm going to stop here. What a total waste of money. IMO the avp 1 (the first one) was the best game to capture the aliens movie. The developers claim they did a lot of research and took feedback from users as to what they liked best about the prior avps and would incorporate those features into the new avp game. They didn't. These morons just don't get it. Flashy graphics do NOT make a good game. Average graphics with attention to game play and details is what makes a good game. Originally I was going to give this game a 3 but now it's down to a 2 because of all the lies and hype customers were fed before this game came out. For those of you who gave this game high ratings, I invite you to play the previous games and make your rating off of them, keeping in mind that the earlier game are almost 8 years old now. Expand

The early levels were unique and well designed after that, they get boring. In the marine missions, when the flamethrower was used on the aliens, it was frustrating because you can't get away once they are on fire because they grab you and explode, also there was no crouch or take cover when fighting andriods (why not? the andriods did). It would have been great if they would of increased the weapon inventory and ammo capacity and not have made the pistol with infinit ammo. It made me lose some suspense with that. In the alien missions I felt I was just going thru the motions since there too many buttons to press to even navigate efficiently. The use of the heavy attack was way too slow, and what was the point of sprint button if I was going to sprint anways, to me it seemed pointless, the transition mode button was pointless as well, when I could jump on the wall. Nevertheless I felt frustrated with the navigation alien overall. Another issue why the alien could not spit acid? during the game the alien AI was able to. And what was the point of being able to bite the victims head after the human was dead? The predator mission to me were the most disappointing, cloak did not work against aliens and some the in game mini scripts I could not even see because I was overwhelmed by aliens. The cannon having to be recharged was stupid, so I did not even used it. The spear did not come back to the predator it just refreshed the crosshairs, which lost it's "movie" likeness appeal to me.I did not even used the mine since there was no situation that actually call for it, so it seemed useless to me. The later levels of the predator missions, I could not reach some of the collectables just because the level was not designed to reach them (pointless). The storyline was great, the voice acting was awesome, the sound effects and features were outstanding. The game mechanics were ok, with the exception of the issues I mentioned earlier. The graphics were ok, I hoped for a WOW factor while playing the DX 11 version of the game, they could of done less lighting overall in the game to add more suspense. To me the multiplayer part it of this game is needs alot of improvements, such as a lagmetter and being able to connect and disconnect faster (instead of stages). And the ranking system seems to add no benifit. This could of been a block buster game but it's not. The game took approx 11 hours to finish and it crashed 5 times. Multiplayer detected around 15 people playing, so yeh.. I tried one game, got a ping of 133 and well, quit.. Bring back dedicated servers please. I was pissed off quite a bit that there was no coop. I hate the way the industry defines "coop" these days. Coop traditionally means playing through a CAMPAIGN with a mate. NOT a multiplayer mode, where you're just playing against bots. Which is what survival mode is in this. There's no campaign based around it, it's just a multiplayer mode. L4D is coop because there's 4 CAMPAIGNS based around it. So when Steam sticks up coop on the store page, it's a bit fucking rich. Quake 3 had team deathmatch with bots, that doesn't make it coop. UT2004 had that survival mode too, IT DOESNT MAKE IT COOP. This is more to do with Steam's store page selling a game incorrectly though. So bleh.. So ofcourse my friend and I were annoyed at that, considering coop was what made the original AVP series so much fun. Playing through the first couple of levels as the Marine was very fun. We both agreed it scared the shit out of us not having the quicksave. It's easily the best campaign and the most fun you'll have with this game. My friend stopped playing after that. I then finished the game in one go. The Alien campaign is.. fun, but it doesn't take you through the birth cycle like the old AvP did. So the whole campaign, although great fun, gets repetitive VERY quickly. And thus by the end, you're wanting it to end, so you can just move onto the Predator. The Predator campaign annoyed me. He's nowhere near as fun to play now. So much of his toys and kit are missing it's ridiculous. The overshoulder laser cannon sounds awful, and is fairly useless at killing anything. The spear is great, but why doesn't it stick in the model, you throw it at them and it just disappears.. kind've lame from a game boasting DX11 tech. Finally, the bosses are just awful. Playing on normal, some were too easy, and then out of nowhere they became incredibly difficult. The final boss on the Predator campaign was just too easy. And felt very anti-climactic really. The Praetorian was just too hard, but I eventually did it somehow. The two Predators and the Elite Predator were far too easy for a normal mode setting. Also despite dxdiag thinking I have DX11, apparently AvP doesn't, bit lame but the game looks amazing anyway. It's a shame Rebellion made the stupid decision of not putting in dedicated servers from the get-go. Because the demo was a lot of fun on the PC, and the different modes look great. Some press have given this game 5/10 or 50% scores. Thats just harsh.. the game is very well made and you're not going to see a better looking AvP game for a while. Aside from that, it offers the same package as any Halo game, and is just as good. All it's missing is the stupid orchestral music and slightly better voice acting. So in summary, not great. But worth a look if you can get it at bargain bin price, or a rental. Expand

The Alien is very fun to play jumping from wall to wall waiting for a good time to attack. The marine is exciting to play as, most of the maps are quite dark and you have only a flashlight and motiontracker you never know when you are going to be attacked from. The trophey kills in the multiplayer is a cool idea because that would be what a alien or predator would have done if they were behind someone. it takes a few seconds to do the kill which leaves you wide open to attack so you have to make sure there is no one about before doing it or someone could kill you and the player you are killing. Another thing i love is that they have put in the survivor mode in which is like the skirmish from the first one but its not as crazy with waves of Aliens that get harder and smarter climbing on the walks and than attacking you and than running away and sneaking up on you again. Of course, it is a different type of game from most online shooters, so it's experimental mechanics tend to make fans of frenetic, high-octane multiplayer games like TF2 or MW2 shy away. However, if you were a fan of the previous iterations of AvP (both of them,) this game shouldn't disappoint. The controls are different, and it is definitely NOT the same game as those, but if you can get past the fact this isn't AvP2 with better graphics, you should enjoy this game. Expand

  1. A good campaign, the marine one, and some variety in gameplay mechanics provide a quite fun experience. Unfortunately some ideas lack polish and the other two-thirds of the single player are just not as good as they were supposed to be.
  2. Aliens Vs Predator is a standard First Person Shooter, but thanks to the Predator's and Xenomorph's campaigns, it entertains old and new players. Even the multiplayer mode is funny and well structured, but the graphics engine is not that good.
  3. The controls for Predators and Xenomorphs may be a bit tricky and the AI sometimes doesn't show any "Intelligence" at all, but nevertheless: AvP is a most-have for fans of the movies, as well as the games - especially if you're into absolute multiplayer-mayhem and dont mind "some" gore.
