Good atmosphere, good story, many people say the story is 'unoriginal', can they name me 5 or more games with better story lines...? Well done Remedy Entertainment keep up the good work.

Alan Wake. Just the name alone gives off creepy, supernatural and literary vibes.

Alan Wake is an amazing experience, and there's even a remastered version available now, Alan Wake Remastered, which is superior to the original game in terms of visuals and overall presentation. The remaster does a great job of bringing the game up to today's standards, although the original game still holds up well in terms of graphics. However, there is a catch – the remaster is currently only available on the Epic Games Store, and it seems to be plagued with bugs for AMD users like myself. So, if you're an AMD user or unsure about potential issues, it might be better to stick with the original version for a smoother experience, or you can try the remaster, and if you do notice visual glitches you should ask for a refund and buy the original instead.

As for the game itself, Alan Wake offers an exquisitely crafted story that clearly showcases the developers' dedication. Everything about it, from the visuals to the storytelling, feels of high quality. The narrative keeps you engaged and emotionally invested throughout, making you eagerly anticipate what unfolds next. The constant looming darkness in the game creates a sense of urgency, urging you to seek refuge in "safe havens" to momentarily escape the terror. The eerie ambiance, fog, and the setting of Bright Falls make me draw comparisons to the atmosphere of the iconic Silent Hill series, despite being completely different games.

The gameplay is immensely enjoyable, with well-implemented shooting mechanics, the clever use of light in combat against enemies, and excellent enemy designs. The enemies themselves possess dark personalities, adding to the overall creepiness and immersion. However, one aspect that warrants criticism is the game's tendency to abruptly strip you of all your gear without a compelling explanation. Though it makes sense from a gameplay perspective, it can feel jarring and immersion-breaking at times. Alan Wake's gameplay falls somewhere between adventure and survival horror, blurring the lines between the two genres.

One thing that slightly dampens the experience is Alan Wake's somewhat slippery movement. He tends to keep moving a little even after you stop, and the jump mechanic is unresponsive, which can be frustrating, especially in Special 2 where platforming elements play a significant role. Additionally, Alan's sprint is disappointingly short-lived, leading to exhaustion too quickly, making it less enjoyable. The car controls and movement also leave something to be desired.

Nevertheless, despite these minor drawbacks, Alan Wake remains a unique and captivating experience. I highly recommend it to fans of survival horror and thrilling stories. The game has earned a special place in my heart, becoming one of my favorite games and franchises.

A bit boring. The game repeats itself a lot, same enemies, same weapons, main story story starts great, but soon gets uninteresting, halfway through the game, I didn't really care how it would end, I just wished it would end soon.

Main difficulties in this game are controls and camera angle. If you are playing using controller, then also add poor aiming. Otherwise, the gameplay itself is just idea free.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alan wake feels like a relic from a different era, but does so in a way that feels charming and endearing. The story is engaging, although perhaps feels more like a B-movie horror movie from the early-mid 2000s than a masterful Stephen King novel. The combat is solid and holds up in large part by its great sound design, and I was hooked on the live action Night Springs show scattered throughout the six chapters. Some minor gripes that I have is that there isn’t nearly enough weapon variety, and that your weapons and batteries are taken from you far too often. Another annoying thing is how the player can learn a lot of foreshadowing from the manuscript pages, a specific example is a page called ‘Alan’s Plan’ that reveals to you that Alan needs to go back to the cabin to finish the story, but because Alan isn’t there yet he pushes on till he learns the revelation first hand. Surely he would be reading these manuscripts that inform him of future events? It’s somewhat of a nitpick but can cause the player to feel completely disconnected to the protagonist they’re supposed to be invested in. Despite these gripes I’m looking forward to a sequel to this, with some tweaking to the resource economy this has huge potential as a survival horror franchise. Expand

The game is super boring. I literally forced myself to play it. I don't know if it's just not my vibe or if the game is just bad.

Seriously cannot understand why ppl rate this game this high. The narrative is just so so bad which annoys me to the max and the plot is just, ugh I can’t. Worst story telling and narrative ever. Will give 1 point for gameplay i guess. as long as he stops monologuing to explain the story and his feeling i would feel better

Alan Wake игра, сделанная как средний сериальчик. Геймплей всё равно что палка-копалка для нынешнего человека, простой и не замысловатый. Графика плохая и лица кривые. В общем игра тянет на 5 из 10, больше не заслуживает.

Alan Wake is underrated masterpiece, that never got love that it deserved. Sure, some dialogues and animations are outdated, but people need to understand that this is 2010 video game, that tried to do something different. For it's time, it's very well made game and most of the story and dialogues actually holds up well enough. Can't wait for Part 2!

Alan Wake's main gameplay gimmick, wherein the player needs to train a spotlight on enemies for a long enough time before they become vulnerable, is likely the main reason why this game became such a cult classic title after release. It creates an interesting game flow, wherein the player constantly has to juggle their torchlight in addition to their ammunition, whilst often being swarmed by multiple enemies from different directions. I especially appreciated how each bullet would need to be reloaded individually, as this makes the player feel especially vulnerable when they're out of bullets in a firefight, and really aids in the tension. Alan Wake is a decent port with a few console-characteristics that cause a few annoyances. But PC-gamers finally have the option to enjoy Alan Wake's unique and gripping story.

Yet as a finished result and, finally, as a product with an interactive purpose, Alan Wake suffers enough from trying to mix so many influences, ending very close to the "you love it or hate it" model. Eventually, maybe these are just the "pains of childbirth" for something more complex or for something else as deserving as interactivity, a new „species" that needs to be judged less for its interactive aspects and more for the ones that regard its style.
