Challenging game. this game WILL make you rage a lot
best way to describe it would be a mix of super meatboy and 'I wanna be the Guy'
and it works ... GREAT there are a lot of characters, tons of replay value, unlockable skins. You won't beat this game in one session and you'll probably pull your hair out on some levels. But the satisfaction you get after you beat the levels is like

Certainly recommend this one, insanely good!!

1001 Spikes is a paean to clever level design in a world full of games with procedural generation. The controls are so simple and so tight, and because of that, the game is all about how the levels work, what the developer is trying to do with you/to you. After a medium-difficulty tutorial world, prepare to be thrown in the deep end, with endgame Super Meat Boy-caliber levels popping up by World 3. With plenty of unlockable characters that do different stuff, if you like the game, you'll play it a ton. There's drop-in local co-op and versus modes, too, and man are they fun at a nerd party alongside Nidhogg and Towerfall. If you looked at this page because you were the least bit interested, get it! It's worth it. Expand

At first this seems like a great game, but eventually the levels become poorly designed. Specifically, they are designs where if you get through the first part of the level and you get to the second part [yay! i did it!] at the wrong time in the second part's sequence, you die instantly. You have to predict the exact timing of the rest of the level, and that isn't fun. If you surviveAt first this seems like a great game, but eventually the levels become poorly designed. You have to predict the exact timing of the rest of the level, and that isn't fun. If you survive the first part, you should have a chance at the second part, [it should be a "sure you could die instantly, but in an avoidable way" situation], this is just immature gratuitous game design Expand

I would say that this game is rather for hardcore games who like big challenges and punishing gameplay that will not forgive you any single mistake. It might be objectively good but the purpose of my reviews is to find the games that you can relax at instead of feeling anger and hopelessness because you were killed again

I would say that this game is rather for hardcore games who like big challenges and punishing gameplay that will not forgive you any single mistake. It might be objectively good but the purpose of my reviews is to find the games that you can relax at instead of feeling anger and hopelessness because you were killed again by something that appeared out of nowhere.

Thus I have to give this nice but tough game thumbs down and VideoGaming Father's Index 5 out of 10

    Pros:
    - nice old school graphics
    - responsive control allowing to play on keyboard

    Cons:
    - spikes, darts and other obstacles are coming out of nowhere quite often
    - punishing gameplay
    - based on trial and error approach rather than on skills

Although it may seem an impossible game to beat, 1001 Spikes knows how to reward those who try to beat it thanks to a delightful level design.

Like many of the games in the same league, it’s hard to recommend 1001 Spikes to those who aren’t patient enough to learn its deadly and intricate ways, or to those who are prone to smashing their controller through their TV screen in frustration. But to those who live off buzz words like “rage-inducing” and “old-school hard”, look no further.

Its varied level design, gratifying gameplay, vast amount of content, and palpable tension make 1001 Spikes a must-play for people seeking a challenge.
