Unsurprisingly, Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is the best way to experience a JRPG classic. If you're not enthralled by the story, the game can feel like a bit of a drag, but even then, it's got a strong hook with its deep RPG mechanics and an ace up its sleeve that is mech combat and exploration, making the journey absolutely worthwhile.

Without a doubt, the best way to explore Mira: 4K and 60 fps sharpen the feel of a sci-fi RPG that remains truly unique in Nintendo’s catalog. The technical leap makes its Wii U origins more noticeable, but the game beneath it all still shines brightly.

Xenoblades Chronicles X: Definitive Edition lands on the Nintendo Switch 2 promising to deliver what its title says, and it does a very good job at upgrading the game's features when it comes to fluidity, responsiveness and resolution, while keeping all that made it an amazing game with its exploration experience and dynamic combat system. It could have delivered in all its promises if it was more consistent with regards to its graphical performance, namely on some of its textures and aliasing effects which could use some improvement, but this edition is nonetheless a better way to experience this adventure.

Higher resolution, 60fps, and significantly reduced loading times are strong incentives to purchase this Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The cheap upgrade price will surely appeal to fans of Monolith Soft’s JRPG, as it remains one of the few Nintendo productions that truly leans on presentation. However, keep in mind that neither the upscaling nor the performance feels truly “definitive,” as one might expect from a title originally released 11 years ago on the Wii U. Xenoblade Chronicles X is still a gem, and seeing it pushed beyond its original technical limits is priceless, save for the cost of admission, which in turn compels us to demand proper standards. While waiting for potential updates, it’s an easy recommendation for docked play; otherwise, a bit more consideration is advised.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a middle ground between a remaster and a remake; the game is not overly aged and benefits from the many improvements resulting so and accessible. This does not mean that it is easier: the level of challenge is the same as in the classic version, and in general this re-release, appreciable by both fans of the saga and newcomers, offers a deep and exciting story.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is still a fantastic RPG, and the jump to 60fps on Switch 2 genuinely makes a huge difference. Sadly, the strange upscaling in handheld holds this version back from feeling truly definitive. Docked looks great, portable less so. With a patch, this could easily be fixed, but right now it feels like an upgrade with rough edges, and that’s a shame for a game this iconic.
