Jun 22, 2026None of these enhancements and new features make Xenoblade Chronicles substantially better. They merely refine a game of almost incredible scope and direction. If nothing else, this release has been an excuse to play a JRPG that has grown on me to become one of my favourites of all time. It is and remains one of the most intelligent, emotional, beautiful and expansive visions in the genre’s history, so I’m not complaining about its release at all.

Jun 18, 2026Xenoblade Chronicles has a massive ton of content, including a post-game campaign previously released as DLC. If you’re a fan of action RPGs and looking for a vast adventure to dive into, it’s hard not to recommend Xenoblade Chronicles. However, if you’ve played this game with one of the previous versions, there might not be enough here to justify a replay unless you’re a huge fan. Owners of the Nintendo Switch: Definitive Edition can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for a reasonable price.

Jun 16, 2026Don't let minor graphical flaws rob you of the satisfaction of playing an unforgettable JRPG. If you’ve never played Xenoblade Chronicles, this Nintendo Switch edition will captivate you, provided you have even a passing interest in the genre. And if you played it on the Wii but skipped the previous Switch release—which included the new epilogue—you’ll be blown away by the massive graphical leap in this new remaster. Even if you started the game on Switch but didn't finish it, the improvement is significant enough that we highly recommend this enhanced version to wrap up the adventure just as Monolith Soft likely envisioned it all along.

Jun 11, 2026The definitive edition of the definitive edition. Xenoblade Chronicles has never looked this good, though all that smoothness also exposes the age of a twice-remastered classic. A modest, honest update, and an ideal entry point into the series before the whole trilogy arrives on Switch 2.

Jun 15, 2026Replaying Xenoblade Chronicles in 2026 serves as a reminder of why this title is frequently cited as one of the greatest JRPGs of all time. The story remains moving, the cast unforgettable, and the combat system retains all its depth; meanwhile, the game world still manages to convey that sense of discovery that many modern titles have lost. The new features introduced in this Nintendo Switch 2 Edition do not revolutionize the original structure, but they tangibly enhance the experience in every respect. For those who have never played Xenoblade Chronicles, this is quite simply the best possible version. For those already familiar with it, it offers the perfect opportunity to revisit one of the finest journeys ever told in a video game.

Jun 23, 2026I do think these Switch 2 editions are going to be a net positive no matter what, and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (mouthful, right?) is no different. While they’re not doing what they should be for proper upscaling, it’s not a severe downgrade. You do get noticeably improved visuals, a doubled framerate, and some neat new features added to a game that nobody expected to even be touched on again. If some blurriness in the backgrounds isn’t a dealbreaker, and it shouldn’t be, then jump right in to the Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition if you’re seeking a replay or a first time experience with one of the greatest RPGs ever made.

Jun 22, 2026A version that finally does full justice to this JRPG heavyweight, despite a few lingering signs of its age.

Jun 18, 2026If the good old days of PS2-era JRPGs are still being pined for, Xenoblade Chronicles will satisfy that craving and then some. There aren’t many games of this substance still being produced today, and there is no excuse to not give it a chance with Definitive Edition’s Switch 2 update. While it is disappointing that the 60fps target slips up in heavier situations, the vast majority of the time it delivers a smooth performance that greatly enhances the experience, and the 4K resolution upgrade brings out the best of this beautiful world. The addition of the Ether Jet positively serves to streamline slower parts of exploration and comes especially welcome for handheld questing.

Jun 15, 2026The Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is, without a doubt, an improvement over what we saw with Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s Switch 2 Edition. That doesn’t mean it’s all the way out of the woods, however. A soft image and some weirdness with the framerates of various elements hurt what is otherwise a really great-looking visual update. With the new Ether Jet bike, Nopon Grand Prix races, and voiced Heart-to-Heart scenes thrown in the mix, it’s a lot easier to recommend this than the Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X. I’m hoping we see some updates at some point to fix certain things, but I doubt as many people will be scrambling to uninstall this Xenoblade Switch 2 Edition as we saw with the previous one.
