Embrace mind-blowing moments as you’re pulled deep into the many worlds of Split Fiction, a boundary-pushing co-op action adventure from the studio behind 2021 Game of the Year Winner, It Takes Two.
Mio and Zoe are contrasting writers - one writes sci-fi and the other writes fantasy - who become trapped in their own stories after being hooked up to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas. They’ll have to rely on each other to break free with their memories in-tact, working together to master a variety of abilities and overcome diverse challenges while jumping between sci-fi and fantasy worlds in this unexpected tale of friendship.

Split Fiction is a unique action-adventure experience that keeps you on the edge of your couch with unexpected moments. One minute you’re taming adorable dragons and the next you’re fighting as cyber ninjas, escaping terrifying trolls, or dodging hover cars thrown by a robotic parking attendant.
It’s weird, it’s wild, and it’s designed to be shared.

Split Fiction is a masterclass of game design, and is yet another instant classic from a team who have, across a span of three games, rewritten the handbook on how to develop fun and insanely inventive stories that’ll be remembered for one thing, among others: spotlighting the power of friendship.

Above all, Split Fiction is a love letter to storytelling, a reminder of why stories matter and why protecting creative voices is more crucial than ever.

Split Fiction is still the same fun co-op adventure that, with minimal sacrifices, looks and plays great on Nintendo Switch 2 and, even better, goes the extra mile when it comes to offering options for sharing the adventure, including using GameShare with a Switch 1 that doesn't run the game natively. Bravo, Hazelight.

Split Fiction is an incredible game. I was surprised how much fun I had with it, especially playing it via local co-op with my son. The Nintendo Switch seemed to handle the game quite well, aside from a minor issue with the main characters’ hair. A word of warning though, the retail version of Split Fiction does not contain a game card, but rather a full game download code. And since it’s a beefy game – around 70 gigs – it’ll take up some valuable real estate on your new Nintendo Switch 2. It’s also worth reiterating once again that this is a co-op only game. You can play locally via split screen or with GameShare, or you can play online via cross-platform play. But if you do not have someone else to play with, you can not play. Despite these minor notes, Split Fiction is an absolute gem of a game that will most definitely be in the Game of the Year conversation.

Split Fiction is one of the best games of 2025, and it's a joy to play on Nintendo Switch 2. While there are some compromises with the frame rate and resolution, this is still the same great experience found on PC and consoles. If you're looking for a new and unforgettable co-op experience, look no further.

Split Fiction is a brilliant co-op experience on the Switch 2 - whether you're playing on a TV, in handheld mode, or online via cross-play. And thanks to Game Share local, wireless co-op play can be realised with just one full version of the game. However, it's disappointing that Hazelight and EA weren't able to fit the entire game onto a Switch 2 cartridge, and even the physical edition ultimately only contains a download code. It also loses points for some missing basic accessibility options, such as the ability to adjust the font size of dialogue texts.

Split Fiction, on paper, is the perfect companion for the Switch 2. In some ways, it is, with its Friend's Pass allowing for online crossplay and the GameChat feature letting you see and hear your online friends as you play. But there's no getting around the fact that this is a serious downgrade from the versions on other platforms. And, while the Switch 2's versatility means you can technically play on the go, the experience is less than optimal. That's not to say this fun-filled co-op game looks or performs badly, but the drop in quality is disappointing. If you don't care about performance or visuals, however, and simply want a thrilling co-adventure to jump into with a friend, you can't go wrong with Split Fiction.
