A Way Out could have been a lucky shot but It Takes Two confirmed the talent of the team led by Josef Fares in creating very fun and mirror games characterized by true strokes of genius. Split Fiction remains on the same, very high levels of its predecessors and even on Nintendo Switch 2 it confirms itself as an unmissable experience ... unless you have already experienced it on other platforms given the lack of any type of additional bonus.

Above all, Split Fiction is a love letter to storytelling, a reminder of why stories matter and why protecting creative voices is more crucial than ever.

Split Fiction isn't just a great co-op game. It's a story about creativity, friendship, and grief. On Nintendo Switch 2, you could say you get the perfect experience, mainly because the console offers just what you need: good performance, social features, compatibility and flexible gameplay.

Split Fiction is one of the best games of 2025, and it's a joy to play on Nintendo Switch 2. While there are some compromises with the frame rate and resolution, this is still the same great experience found on PC and consoles. If you're looking for a new and unforgettable co-op experience, look no further.

This 1:1 port of the original version shines with excellent co-op mechanics, strong visual performance, and thoughtful multiplayer options like Gamechat and Gameshare; however, the requirement of extra controllers for local co-op and the disappointing "Code in a Box" physical release slightly dampen an otherwise ideal title to launch with Switch 2.

Split Fiction is one of the most outstanding cooperative games we’ve enjoyed. It combines a mature and well-structured narrative, sharp humor, dynamic gameplay that never ceases to amaze, and technical aspects that subtly showcase the potential of the new console.

For a start, it’s the only current gen-only game available at launch. And while that’s not a particularly good indication of the Switch 2’s power, given that Split Fiction isn’t a very graphically demanding game, it’s still impressive that it works as well as it does. It’s capped at 30fps when docked but it looks almost indistinguishable from the PlayStation 5 version.

Hazelight Studios has made a conscious adaptation to the strengths and limitations of Nintendo's new hardware, keeping the heart of the game intact while optimizing the experience for the console's own portability and connectivity.

Split Fiction is an incredible game. I was surprised how much fun I had with it, especially playing it via local co-op with my son. The Nintendo Switch seemed to handle the game quite well, aside from a minor issue with the main characters’ hair. A word of warning though, the retail version of Split Fiction does not contain a game card, but rather a full game download code. And since it’s a beefy game – around 70 gigs – it’ll take up some valuable real estate on your new Nintendo Switch 2. It’s also worth reiterating once again that this is a co-op only game. You can play locally via split screen or with GameShare, or you can play online via cross-platform play. But if you do not have someone else to play with, you can not play. Despite these minor notes, Split Fiction is an absolute gem of a game that will most definitely be in the Game of the Year conversation.

Split Fiction feels like a gift. Its sole aim is to entertain and bring players together by testing them at every turn. Hazelight gives us two distinct worlds, each filled with a huge array of activities for co-op partners to enjoy and argue over. It serves as a surprising visual showcase for the Switch 2 and enhances the Friend's Pass feature, allowing our original Switch buddies to join in the fun.

Split Fiction is still the same fun co-op adventure that, with minimal sacrifices, looks and plays great on Nintendo Switch 2 and, even better, goes the extra mile when it comes to offering options for sharing the adventure, including using GameShare with a Switch 1 that doesn't run the game natively. Bravo, Hazelight.

Every mechanic, level, and conversation between Mio and Zoe is designed to make you smile, think, and engage in collaboration. In a landscape where multiplayer titles often lean towards competitiveness, Split Fiction stands as a tribute to teamwork, communication, and empathy. For veteran players or those new to this type of game, Hazelight's title is a safe, fun, and memorable choice. And if you have a Nintendo Switch 2, there's no excuse: it's the cooperative game you've been waiting for.

Split Fiction is a brilliant co-op experience on the Switch 2 - whether you're playing on a TV, in handheld mode, or online via cross-play. And thanks to Game Share local, wireless co-op play can be realised with just one full version of the game. However, it's disappointing that Hazelight and EA weren't able to fit the entire game onto a Switch 2 cartridge, and even the physical edition ultimately only contains a download code. It also loses points for some missing basic accessibility options, such as the ability to adjust the font size of dialogue texts.

Split Fiction was a great game on other consoles and that fact remains true on the Switch 2. The frantic gameplay and diverse worlds run smoothly on Nintendo's new console, though the graphics did take a step back. It's a shame, however, that you can't play the game with one set of Joy-Cons, but thankfully Hazelight made it as easy as possible to share the adventure on another Switch.

Split Fiction is, in a lot of ways, the best this studio has ever delivered, but is still far from flawless in its execution. The plots from all previous Hazelight games have consistently been an issue and this game is no exception. Its tone and characterization are pretty flat, with a lot of cringe moments to take away from the experience. Fortunately, one thing this studio has learned is to keep the action moving, and providing tons of set piece moments to override any bad taste the dialogue could ever leave. The puzzle mechanics work well as long as you can communicate with your partner with patience and the set pieces are a rollercoaster ride of excitement. It also helps that this runs perfectly on the Switch 2. Split Fiction can really test relationships, but whenever a new Hazelight co-op adventure drops, I’m always down for the thrillride.

Both as a stand-alone title and as a D1 port, Split Fiction for Nintendo Switch 2 works flawlessly. Fun, full-bodied and with a philosophy that fits perfectly with a system as accessible as Nintendo's new console. Thanks to plenty of well-executed connectivity options to amplify the experience with a friend, Split Fiction enriches Switch 2's third-party portfolio with quality and ideas, bringing Mio and Zoe's epic journey to the small screen.
