Apr 8, 2026Pokopia is great and it’s going to easily be in my top 10 games of 2026. It’s just a nice experience to see kindness in the face of tragedy which the plot of Pokopia explores. None of the Pokémon fight, they are kind and simply enjoy playing (something that The Pokémon Company has always said in the face of animal abuse allegations but never fully explored in game). I think Pokopia is going to force a lot of games in the cozy genre to reevaluate what they are doing because there’s both freedom and structure for the player and it does an amazing job balancing both. It’s just good vibes.
-
Mar 26, 2026Heartwarming and immensely charming, Pokémon Pokopia is one of the best Pokémon games in years, and a loving celebration of friendship that will delight generations of fans.
-
Mar 23, 2026This is exactly the kind of adorable, sweet natured, and engrossing experience Pokémon should always strive for. It’s completely revitalized the series’ waning magic and I’m unbelievably happy it exists.
-
Mar 20, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is cuteness overload with low-stakes, but still an intriguing story. You’ll never run out of anything to do and put hours of fun into this game.
-
Mar 19, 2026Pokémon Pokopia succeeds because it understands Pokémon at a fundamental level. It recognizes that the appeal of the series isn’t just about collecting creatures or filling a Pokédex; it’s about the sense of adventure, discovery, and companionship that comes from exploring a world filled with these iconic monsters. By leaning into that idea and building an enormous, engaging experience around it, Pokopia becomes something special.
-
Mar 13, 2026It’s been a long time since I’ve been so pleasantly blown away by a game, but Pokémon Pokopia has continued to surprise and delight me with every step. This is no doubt going to be one of the standout games of the Nintendo Switch 2 and of the year, as the addictive gameplay loop, charming world and characters, and seemingly endless amount of content make it 100% worth playing.
-
Mar 13, 2026While drawing heavily from the lineage of Dragon Quest Builders, Pokémon Pokopia successfully translates the inherently complex creatures and systems of Pokémon into a cohesive gameplay loop, reconstructing the overall experience into something with the relaxed, leisurely pacing reminiscent of Animal Crossing. The Pokémon models are charmingly rendered, and the distant scenery showcases the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2. With the potential to become a long-beloved staple title for the platform, it also represents a breakthrough in how the Pokémon IP can be approached, resulting in a game with a uniquely impressive level of polish and accomplishment.
-
Mar 11, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a massive love letter to the series, one that fittingly hits in the 30th year. It’s the gold standard of Pokémon spin-offs, letting you live in a Pokémon playground.
-
Mar 11, 2026Equal parts story, exploration, and friend-making, POKÉMON POKOPIA is more than I possibly thought I could ever ask for from a game. Sure, it has some kinks to be ironed out, but I cannot honestly think of another time ever that I hit 20+ hours of play time within the first three days of release.
-
Mar 10, 2026Even with so many systems and so much “stuff” to account for, the formula here is nearly perfect and I find myself struggling for things to truly complain about. Pokemon Pokopia is a master class in cozy game design and an absolute triumph.
-
Mar 9, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a surprisingly amazing spin-off that blends the Pokémon formula with building, habitat restoration, and a relaxing sandbox gameplay loop. Its charming story and adorable presentation add more depth than you’d expect from a sim. Despite some clunky building controls, it remains a cozy and addictive experience that can easily keep you busy for dozens of hours.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a charming and entertaining life simulation game in which you collaborate with various Pokémon to improve the desolate places you arrive at. Whether you're completing story objectives or simply rejuvenating locations, the hours fly by with immense sweetness and fun.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokopia is a 2026 Game of the Year contender that masterfully blends the creative freedom of Minecraft with the cozy charm of Animal Crossing. By trading traditional battling for an addictive loop of habitat restoration and blueprint-based building, it offers a deeply rewarding new way to collect Pokémon.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokemon Pokopia reimagines what it means to be a Pokemon, blending cozy building systems with open-ended creativity to deliver one of the most addictive gameplay loops the series has ever seen.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is one of the most robust cozy games to-date, essentially melding two Nintendo franchises into one content-rich whole that should keep fans pleasantly busy for some time.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia succeeds by shifting the focus from battles to belonging. Instead of chasing badges, the player helps rebuild and coexist within a living ecosystem, creating a more intimate and emotional connection to the Pokémon world. It’s a reinvention that honors the franchise’s roots while proving it can still evolve in meaningful ways.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia was always bound to be up there among my most-played games of 2026, but even I underestimated how well Nintendo would tackle its latest town-building / cozy life sim. It’s story-driven, offering a great gameplay loop, inventive mechanics, and very few friction points; Nintendo clearly learned from some of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ quality-of-life hiccups. My only wish would be for a little more individuality in Poké-personalities, but it’s still plenty charming as it is.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is an excellent life simulation game that takes the best bits from the champions of the genre and evolves into something that Pokémon fans, and cozy game fans will love. Late-game grinding doesn't dull an adventure that's as full of discovery at 100 hours as it was at 1.
-
Mar 2, 2026There’s no one reason why Pokémon Pokopia is so special; this game is a sum of its parts, without a single weak link in the chain. It’s a title that offers a unique spin on the cosy formula, made all the more magical by the familiarity of this wonderful franchise. Pokémon Pokopia is a true adventure that boasts a refreshing sense of freedom. Totally devoid of grind, this experience rewards the curious with heaps of content on offer. You’ll be hard pressed to put it down, and it's certainly a title that we’ll all be discussing when this year’s GOTY discussion rolls around.
-
Mar 2, 2026There are so many things I want to gush about with Pokémon Pokopia.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is entirely brilliant. You'll have expectations. You'll want a cosy, wholesome adventure, with Pokémon given a chance to shine. Pokopia brushes all of those expectations aside with a confident wave, arriving as an expansive, ambitious life-adventure simulator that's absolutely packed with bright ideas, and the execution to match.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokemon Pokopia invites us to discover, explore, rebuild, and reconnect, rewarding us for every action along the way.
-
Apr 8, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a genuine treat and I cannot recommend it enough. Whether you’re a fan of the Pokémon franchise in its usual form looking for something new, a fan of the almost life-simulation style of games, or just a creative looking for a sandbox to let you go absolutely crazy with, Pokopia has something for you. It’s great for all ages too so anybody can pick up and play it without any issues. With the last couple releases of the mainline Pokémon series being some stinkers, we’re reminded that Pokémon can be nothing short of fantastic with the right bells and whistles and the time it needs to cook. If you’re looking for something new to play as we enter this spring season, this might just be the perfect game to consider.
-
Apr 7, 2026It's addictive and has a calming effect. Do not play while operating heavy machinery! I couldn't praise this game as much as it deserves - may Arceus forgive me.
-
Mar 19, 2026Pokopia is a rare example of a game that takes inspiration from as many genre juggernauts as possible, yet ultimately exceeds them all. The building mechanics may not be quite as expansive as Minecraft, and not all of the 1000+ Pokémon creatures feature here (though weekly events are scheduled to add more). Yet, by combining the strongest core elements of city builders, social simulations, and creature-raising RPGs, Pokopia emerges from the rubble as a monumentally addictive achievement in game design that millions of players will enjoy for years to come.
-
Mar 15, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a smashing homerun. Whether you’re looking for a game with an emotional mystery story of what happened, a game to build your wildest creations, or even just a game to get to spend time with some of your favorite pocket monsters, there is a game here for everyone. The game just oozes sweetness, and I already know that this is one that I am going to drop over 100 hours into this year alone. Simply put, whether you’re already a fan of Pokémon, a newcomer to the series or just a fan of cozy games, Pokémon Pokopia is absolutely a worthwhile buy, and is everything that I wanted Animal Crossing New Horizons to be and more. It is an early game of the year contender for me and a reason to pick up a Nintendo Switch 2.
-
Mar 15, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a cozy Pokémon life simulation game that is full of adventure and creative opportunities. The game is very fun and relaxing, with great building and crafting systems that don't leave players feeling overwhelmed. It's a Switch 2 exclusive, but maybe some day our friends on the first Switch can join us.
-
Mar 11, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a truly special, once-in-a-lifetime game that changes the entire landscape of the genre. There may be nothing new or revolutionary here, but that's not the point. We were sold a cute, fun, and charming Pokémon spin-off that could hold our cozy gaming hearts over until something like Tomodachi Life or the next Animal Crossing releases. What we got was a game that questions whether or not we'd be willing to put Pokémon Pokopia down when those games come out.
-
Mar 10, 2026Pokémon Pokopia feels like a bit of a radical step for the franchise. By removing battles and focusing entirely on creativity, cooperation, and environmental restoration, it reimagines what a Pokémon game can be. What did we get? A game that feels comforting yet ambitious. How? Well, it may look simple on the surface, but it is surprisingly deep once you start experimenting with its systems. Cozy gamers will find a well-filled sandbox, full of charm, while Pokémon fans will discover a world that finally lets them live alongside their favourite creatures rather than command them. And perhaps most impressively, Pokopia stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the games that inspired it. It combines both the warmth of Animal Crossing and the creativity of Dragon Quest Builders, but it ultimately becomes something entirely on its own. Pokopia is one of the most refreshing Pokémon games in years. And if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to make some more houses for my Pokémon.
-
Mar 5, 2026Warning: Pokémon Pokopia is very addictive. Although it suffers from one-note dialogue and gates your progress in real-world hours, its clever systems and gameplay loop make it one of—if not the—best spinoffs in Nintendo’s arsenal. Even dozens of hours later, I’m still surprised that somewhere between tending gardens and chasing Pokémon traces, I found rebuilding the world to be just as satisfying as conquering the Pokémon League.
-
Mar 11, 2026Pokémon Pokopia prompts deep reflection on an age-old question: can Pokémon truly be happy in a world without trainers? The game suggests they're most at peace on their own — yet they still depend on a Ditto taking on a human role, which complicates that very notion. These thematic layers, however, only land because the game itself is genuinely fun. Deep systems, heartfelt bonds with adorable Pokémon, freeform base building, a relaxed pace, and thoughtful design that trims the tedium all come together to make for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokemon Pokopia delivers an adorably joyful experience that unfolds at your own pace and provides a canvas for unbridled creativity.
-
Mar 2, 2026In some areas, the progression system could benefit from a bit more transparency, allowing players to work towards specific goals more effectively. However, thanks to its charming atmosphere, numerous freedoms, a completely stress-free and accessible gameplay, and of course, the Pokémon themselves, Pokémon Pokopia has become a wonderful cozy game – perhaps even one of the best ever.
-
Apr 15, 2026A fantastic combination of Pokémon, a building sandbox, and a cozy life simulator that can absorb you for dozens of hours. It can feel slightly overwhelming at times, but ultimately stands as a dream come true for fans of Pokémon and Animal Crossing, and one of the best reasons to own a Nintendo Switch 2.
-
Apr 10, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a delight. If you're fond of Pokémon for anything besides combat, you'll almost certainly find something to like. It's freeform enough that anyone can pick up and play without feeling confined, but it's structured enough that even those who bounce off crafting games like Minecraft might find something to like. Even if you're a newcomer to the franchise, this may be one of the best ways to introduce yourself to Nintendo's collectible monster behemoth.
-
Apr 1, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a worthy spin-off that breathes new life into the series. With a refreshing narrative and an incredibly engaging world, the game flourishes with its bold direction and diligent execution. It’s hard to believe that this is the series’ first foray into life simulation games because of how snugly the game fits. Between making sure my Pokémon residents are as happy as they can be and stopping to smell the roses, I have been too busy living my best Poké life to miss Pokémon battles.
-
Mar 26, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is the best Pokémon game in years. It brilliantly combines addictive gameplay and interesting level design with the beloved franchise, creating a polished and fresh blend of several genres.
-
Mar 25, 2026Pokémon Pokopia takes a well known life sim formula and gives it a very striking Pokémon identity that helps with creating one of the most surprising and welcome Pokémon games of the decade. With a slow but very cozy and natural sense of progression and addictive gameplay mechanics, Pokopia features a world that's full of personality and very appealing experiences, and it's truly one of the most exquisite Switch 2 games of the moment.
-
Mar 24, 2026Pokémon Pokopia has shattered pretty much all the expectations I had of this game, and it deserves every praise it can get. This is precisely the type of game that, even if you boot it up for just a few short minutes, I guarantee you there will always be something that can be done, and before you notice, it's been half an hour, and you're still engrossed in it. Whether that time be spent looking for artifacts, decorating your islands, or even meeting new Pokémon, there's something for everyone to enjoy here.
-
Mar 23, 2026There are some games that make you think, “How come no one thought of this before?” Well, Pokémon Pokopia is one of those games. It’s a cozy game like Animal Crossing, with a touch of Minecraft—all mixed in with Pokémon. It’s cute, relaxing, and surprisingly deep. Pokémon Pokopia is a cozy game of rare quality. It almost evokes nostalgic feelings of a time when the world stood still and we all escaped en masse to a video game island for hundreds of hours.
-
Mar 20, 2026The cosiest, craziest Pokémon game with a concept so delightful you wonder why we haven't seen it sooner.
-
Mar 16, 2026Pokemon Pokopia is one if not THE best pokemon spin-off game ever made - with excellent story, tons of stuff to do, beautifully rendered and colored and an addicting gameplau loop to keep you coming for more.
-
Mar 16, 2026Pokemon Pokopia is a fantastic entry to the cosy and townbuilding genres, and easily one of the greatest Pokemon games I’ve played.
-
Mar 15, 2026Pokémon Pokopia soars and excels by utilising the series’ 30-year legacy as its strength, harmoniously fusing the adorable, warm world and character design of Pokémon with the likes of other beloved life-sim titles. There’s excitement waiting around every corner as you unearth a new Pokémon at a habitat, find a weird bit of lore in the zany backstory, or show off your creative flair with a robust crafting and building system. There is never a dull moment to be found here, always offering new sights and things to do that make you feel giddy and like a kid all over again. Pokémon has got the magic juice again, and all it took was creating the most sensical fusion of games in history. I doubt this’ll be the end of the Pokopia name. It’s amazing, and a continuation would just print money. If a single spin-off can deliver such heights, I can’t help but feel hopeful that the tides are changing again for the beloved creature collector series. There’s a pulse here yet.
-
Mar 15, 2026With fun multiplayer and an addicting story mode that is virtually impossible to put down once you get going, Pokopia has absolutely nailed the concept of combining the world of Pokemon with the life-sim genre. It's as good as the best life-sims, and a must-buy for Switch 2 owners. And if you don't have a Switch 2 yet, Pokopia is one of the best reasons to go out and buy the console ASAP.
-
Mar 13, 2026Pokopia is going to occupy you for so many dozens of hours. Even once you’ve completed the main story and collected all the Pokémon, there’s still the core sandbox to play around with. Where Animal Crossing does eventually become a series of routines that you get stuck into until eventually it becomes dull, Pokopia resists falling into the same box by simply giving you so many objectives for when you don’t feel like simply inhabiting the world. Which is just as well, because we’re all going to need a lot of this kind of calming escapism over the next few years.
-
Mar 13, 2026There are some games that are conceptually perfect, at which point, once they exist, the only thing standing in the way of them and impeccable perfection is their execution of their pitch. Pokopia is the rare game that has a perfect concept, and then nearly pitch-perfect execution and follow-through on that concept.
-
Mar 12, 2026The new Pokémon spin-off is one of the best things the company has made since Mystery Dungeon or Rangers. Its greatest strength lies in taking a simple genre framework and elevating it through the charm of its pocket creatures, delivering exactly what many fans have been asking for. The music, the atmosphere, the creative freedom, and the dialogue all work together to make the player feel constantly rewarded and eager to keep exploring without stopping.
-
Mar 12, 2026As a life simulation game brimming with content, possibilities, and Pokémon, Pokémon Pokopia has what it takes to win over anyone, regardless of whether they have ever been fans of the franchise. With some patience and creativity, the world can be transformed into a beautiful landscape with unlimited customization options. However, the content Pokopia hides rewards those who dive in, something that is naturally reinforced by its history, giving the series, currently celebrating its 30th birthday this year, another, almost essential dimension.
-
Mar 12, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a huge new direction for Pokémon, much bigger than might be expected for a spin-off. It retains the heart of Pokémon with literally hundreds of different monsters to chat with, and it's always a lot of fun to see who's showing up next. The different areas are nicely designed, frequently with interesting secret areas, although it can feel overwhelming arriving at a new island and seeing just how much there is to do to bring it back from the edge of ruin. There's a long way to go to discover how the world got broken and then fixing it, but as the days roll by and the islands come back to life, the hope that maybe a Ditto and its trainer might eventually be reunited grows with the health and comfort of the reappearing Pokémon.
-
Mar 12, 2026Pokémon Pokopia isn't just possibly the best spinoff this series has ever seen, it also captures the spirit and fulfillment of those classic early entries in the franchise better than anything that's come our way in some years. This game is mechanically sound, technically rock-solid, and has a pinch of genuine creative inspiration and joy that you don't always get from modern Pokémon titles. While the game may start a bit slow for some tastes, I think most folks who give Pokopia a chance will find they Kanto get enough.
-
Mar 11, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is the skeleton of Dragon Quest Builders fused with the heartbeat of Ash Ketchum—a cozy-inked heart where everything becomes a unique, timeless veneer for the saga that’s here to stay.
-
Mar 9, 2026Pokémon Pokopia could well be the Animal Crossing of Nintendo Switch 2. A familiar world that needs rejuvenation, brimming with potential and a cast of colourful favourites to join the ride. Pokopia has a surprising amount of depth, encouraging both exploration and more structured missions to keep the fun flowing. With almost boundless craft and customisation, the game highlights the strength of the hardware - a technical showcase of a world that rarely stutters, if at all. As a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, Pokémon Pokopia has the potential to become a system seller; a cosy essential with a sprinkling of Pokémon nostalgia.
-
Mar 5, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a beautiful game that perfectly embodies the Pokémon soul. Omega Force's Animal Crossing-Minecraft hybrid makes friendship its cornerstone, and between one construction and another, between one friend and another, the world torn apart by selfishness seems to be reborn in the blink of an eye. Pokémon Pokopia is a mature game, probably the most mature in the series. Let's hope Game Freak takes notes for the mainline too.
-
Mar 3, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is one of the year’s biggest wins, a game where the motivation isn’t about defeating some looming antagonist, but about the calm, deliberate restoration of order, reclaiming a space that was once beautiful, a process that feels within reach of our own hands. There’s no combat and no urgency, just a therapeutic hypnosis carried by the gentle brushstrokes of the adorable creatures that have captivated multiple generations. It’s probably the best Pokémon spin-off to date.
-
Mar 2, 2026If you're wondering whether Pokémon Pokopia is worth it, I'll give you the answer right away: yes, it's one of the games that has surprised me the most in recent months. But this is exactly the type of game I love; after all, I've already spent hundreds of hours on Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Dragon Quest Builders, and various other farming, building, management, and simulation games.
-
Mar 2, 2026Simply put, Pokémon Pokopia is one of Pokémon's best spin-offs yet. It effortlessly combines the charm of Animal Crossing and Minecraft while imbuing the end result with all the best elements of monster catching. Regardless of whether you're a fan of Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Dragon Quest Builders, or are just looking to jump into something new, Pokopia will hook you in and keep you coming back for weeks.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a very cozy game that lets players build a better world. The game isn’t literally endless, but sometimes it feels that way.
-
Mar 2, 2026The Pokémon Company may have arrived after the peak of popularity for life simulations like Animal Crossing and Minecraft-like games, but that doesn't stop them from delivering a near-flawless, cozy experience, driven by Omega Force's expertise. Ingenious, rich, touching, funny, addictive, and, above all, respectful of the saga, Pokopia is the Pokémon video game the Nintendo Switch 2 needed, and it couldn't have dreamed of a better production.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia seems to have received a lot of love during its development and therefore feels fully polished. This results in many different moments of pure gaming fun.
-
Mar 2, 2026Behind the surface of a game as cozy as Animal Crossing and as customizable as Minecraft lies a long Pokémon adventure full of surprises, with even a bittersweet aftertaste. It is an experience that is easy to pick up, yet hides multiple layers of interpretation and a fair amount of depth, featuring increasingly complex tasks to complete and an almost infinite endgame—thanks to the ability to build a cloud-based island with three friends. That is, of course, if you choose to do so rather than simply losing yourself in these worlds awaiting reconstruction, free from instructions or requests.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a bold experiment that successfully blends multiple genres, resulting in a title with a very strong identity. While the main series has always been fueled by collecting and battling, here collecting remains, but combat gives way to management and reconstruction. There’s no pressure. No performance anxiety. There’s a world to rebuild patiently, one micro-habitat at a time.
-
Mar 2, 2026For all its minor snags, though, I do think Game Freak and Koei Tecmo have created something special with Pokemon Pokopia. The game feels at once like a well-crafted and engaging cozy game and an impressive Pokemon spin-off. Even without familiar staples like battles or catching, it does very much feel rooted in the world of Pokemon. And it’s also just plain fun. Even if I sometimes felt overwhelmed at the amount of work it’ll take to turn the block-filled expanse into a cozy home, I kept wanting to come back for more.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokemon Pokopia is a combination of the design sensibilities of Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders, but by melding those two structures and fusing them with Pokemon, it compensates for each one's weaknesses. Animal Crossing is so focused on building community that there isn't much to do once you finish your daily chores, while Dragon Quest Builders relies heavily on story quests without much incentive to build up your community and socialize. Pokemon Pokopia gives you a massive amount to do and a story that propels you forward, while also letting you enjoy the simple pleasure of living among your Pokemon friends and building your perfect community. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface, and I can't wait to keep exploring. I'll get Squirtle back yet.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a delightful, cozy game with an intriguing world, enthralling gameplay, and endless playability. It takes the best bits from iconic games like Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders and makes them its own, resulting in an adorable adventure that you just can’t put down.
-
Mar 2, 2026I feel that Pokopia isn't for everyone. It's one of those titles that, if it clicks with you, you'll sink over a hundred hours into, as it's perfect for playing for a few minutes (which end up turning into hours) during those nights when you're just looking for a little peace in an increasingly chaotic world. However, it's also true that its slow pace and tone might not resonate with those who prefer games with more action or conflict. That said, if Pokopia sounds like your kind of game, you can be sure that it is.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a real treat: an enjoyable building and town simulator that capitalizes on the charming personalities of its monsters in a way that appeals to both the creative and collector alike. It's packed with fun things to do and worthy rewards for doing them, and strikes a healthy balance between freedom and suggestion in its building mechanics (despite a few precision nitpicks). All of this is housed in an adorable adventure through an interesting and surprisingly deep setting that presses all the nostalgia buttons for longtime fans. And it all shines especially bright in its lovable protagonist's blobby pink hands.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is one of the best-implemented ideas in recent times, combining monsters with a genre far removed from the RPG world. And when you think about it, it made perfect sense that life-simulation and building was the chosen format, so whoever proposed the project deserves a raise.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia somehow outdoes the franchise's trademark cuteness. The common gameplay loop of catching and collecting Pokémon is shifted to one of comforting them, emulating Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is almost exactly as cosy as we hoped. It's more active and goal-oriented than Animal Crossing, but there's still a laid-back, charming atmosphere to rebuilding the world and making it a new home for yourself and all the other Pokémon left behind.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a surprisingly thoughtful love letter to the Kanto region, and the Pokémon world as a whole, wrapped up in delightful, cosy sandbox gameplay. It gracefully walks the line between familiar and fresh at every point, taking few missteps along the way and delivering one of the best Pokémon spinoffs in decades.
-
Mar 2, 2026Despite my minor complaints, Pokopia sticks out as one of the best examples of a third-party developer using the Pokémon license to the fullest extent possible.
-
Mar 2, 2026I have had a very pleasant time in Pokopia, which never ceases to feed me with new things to do. Pokémon's living conditions must be improved, items must be built, and properties must be planned. We've probably all experienced the kind of game where you repeat the mantra "I'll just do this too" over and over again until you finally look up and realise that it's five in the morning and you haven't slept a wink. That's my experience of Pokopia in a nutshell, and I already feel the urge to dive back in.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokemon Pokopia is like a brilliantly bizarre blend of Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Dragon Quest Builders, and Viva Piñata, and despite its many influences, manages to be a unique spin-off for the Pokemon series that's also an accomplished life sim.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia has turned out to be an excellent game that, honestly, has given me a lot more enjoyment than Pokémon Legends Z-A and Animal Crossing. It’s one of the better cozy games, and you can easily sink dozens of hours into it. For me, the credits rolled after about thirty-five hours of play, but even after that I still have plenty to do to keep myself entertained.
-
Mar 2, 2026A wonderfully engrossing cosy game that combines the best of Minecraft and Fallout 4 to create a Pokémon spin-off that, for the first time in a long while, is constantly surprising you with its ambition and variety.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is the perfect game for any Pokémon fan who enjoys cozy games like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley, offering an adventure packed with content, hundreds of pieces of furniture to collect, a wide variety of gameplay mechanics, and tons of Pokémon you can befriend. A brand-new type of spin-off in the franchise that we predict is going to be a huge hit.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia delivers a charming, surprisingly vast life simulation and building adventure, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the franchise. It masterfully blends elements from Animal Crossing and Minecraft, forging a unique identity with deep mechanics and an expansive world. Though inventory management is cumbersome and Pokémon dialogue repetitive, its technical polish and robust multiplayer make it a standout.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia represents a sublime translation of Pokémon’s core themes into the settlement management genre. It features an overwhelming amount of content and countless customization possibilities—something essential for a game that aims to honor the extensive legacy of Game Freak. As a standalone spin-off, it succeeds in every sense, but as the possible beginning of a new saga, it demonstrates virtually infinite potential.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a wholesome management, building, and cooperative experience that blends ideas from Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and Dragon Quest Builders, yet maintains a distinct identity of its own. Although it can feel somewhat overwhelming at times, the gameplay remains highly engaging and ultimately delivers a message of hope: even in a desolate and harsh setting, dedication and collective support can rebuild anything.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a delightful surprise: a cozy spin-off that blends the best of Minecraft, Dragon Quest Builders, and Animal Crossing into something with a distinct identity within the series. If you’re willing to embrace its laid-back vibe, it could be one of the most addictive and comforting experiences in the Nintendo Switch 2 catalog.
-
Mar 2, 2026The vast array of possibilities it offers is a playground for those who enjoy world-building and management. It might not be the most original thing, but within the Pokémon world, it certainly is. Pokémon Pokopia does little harm and much good.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is the best pocket monster video game of the Switch era. If you enjoy gameplay that combines life simulation and construction, the definition could be expanded even further, making it one of the most interesting Pokémon titles ever. It's not a revolutionary game: it's simply a spin-off that confirms the untapped potential of a franchise that has so far been torn between highs and lows. The choice to rely on "bricks" makes the gameplay and technical structure more manageable, while the artistic direction may not be to everyone's taste. However, if you love Pokémon and want to immerse yourself in a simple and satisfying experience, you'll discover that Pokopia is much more than a hybrid between Animal Crossing and Minecraft.

Mar 2, 2026You spend a lot of time in Pokopia just messing around, but it adds up to something satisfying. Making habitats, befriending Pokémon, exploring, and cleaning up the environment all feel like little tasks at first. But they slowly turn into something more significant. It’s a smooth process that feels perfectly natural. It really sneaks up on you. I wish the map and the inventory were more robust, to be sure. And maybe I felt adrift once in a while. But that core loop was so delightful, I didn’t mind all that much. If you’re looking for a Pokémon experience that feels a little different than the usual fare, Pokémon Pokopia might be perfect for you.

May 13, 2026Pokémon may never have looked so good. The ability to talk to them or care for them is probably a fan's dream come true. The post-apocalyptic setting itself is a great excuse to give us a clear area to develop, as well as an interesting plot device. The downsides are the mediocre controls and the sheer number of resources, which can be easily lost when you have to keep them in separate chests.
-
Mar 12, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a great blend of concepts as disparate as Pokémon, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing, which surprisingly work. It is an entertaining spin-off full of activities, always maintaining its 'Pocket Monsters' essence. Although it starts slow, once past that barrier, we are looking at one of the best games in the franchise so far.
-
Mar 3, 2026If you're a fan of Animal Crossing or Pokémon with a Switch 2, then Pokémon Pokopia is a must buy. It's a cute cozy game that you can play at your own speed, while also being surprisingly hard to put down. The story conclusion is a little disappointing and the controls can be a little unruly, but the game is so much fun that these small issues are easy to ignore.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon: Pokopia revitalizes the franchise by combining the creativity of Minecraft with the charm of Animal Crossing in a deep narrative. Despite suffering from long loading times on the Switch 2 and a slow, real-time-based pace, the freedom to rebuild cities and manage habitats is extremely rewarding. It's an innovative and necessary addition that, even with technical flaws, delivers an exciting and authentic experience.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is an adventure that manages to surprise and leave its mark, bringing back that sense of wonder and discovery that has always made the series so special.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a great spin-off, full of content. It's a very interesting twist to the Pokémon formula, now in the 'Builders' side.
-
Mar 2, 2026A dream come true for Pokémon fans and creative builders who love getting lost in the little details.
-
Edge MagazineApr 16, 2026Indeed, perhaps Pokopia's finest accomplishment is that it caters equally to all kinds of player: those who love to build freely, and those who crave more direction. If you're the kind of Pokemon obsessive who plays every entry and spinoff, you'll find plenty here to delight. And if you're an older or lapsed fan, or Pokemon has passed you by completely? Well, ditto. [Issue#423, p.118]

Mar 26, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is the dream of every Pokémon fan who has ever wanted a cozy game of their own, but I found its progression so slow and lacking in engagement that I couldn’t enjoy the experience as much as I hoped. Fans of the genre will likely appreciate it, but if you’re not into cozy games, this title doesn’t really bring anything new to the genre that would draw you in.
-
Mar 25, 2026I’m absolutely enamored with Pokopia. Its issues aside, this is a giant step forward in the cozy game genre. In fact, even though it’s only March, I’m already predicting this to be a serious contender for Best Family Game at The Game Awards in December. With 30+ hours in-game already, Pokopia has its claws in so deep that I don’t see any reason why it can’t be my next game to hit several hundred hours. I’ve got 5 towns to build or rebuild. I’ve got more secrets to learn and Pokémon to find. Pokopia will be at the tippy top of my list for quite some time.
-
Mar 12, 2026The Switch 2 exclusive Pokémon Pokopia is a mix of Minecraft's building, Animal Crossing's decorating, and Viva Pinãta's species gathering. The relaxed pace combined with the series' collect-it-all mentality is really addictive, although the Nintendo-esque clumsiness of slow menus and game mechanics occasionally raises the annoyance curve.
-
Mar 9, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is an interesting spin-off that blends life simulation, building, and exploration into a relaxing experience. It may not reinvent the genre, but its charm and creative ideas make it a pleasant change of pace for Pokémon fans—especially those who enjoy slower, more creative gameplay.
-
Mar 5, 2026Pokopia turns out to be huge, and unexpectedly complex. As new zones opened up beyond that first wasteland, I realised that this game was probably going to occupy me for as long as I wanted. (With 300 Pokémon to catalogue, the conclusion of the story need not be the conclusion of the game.) This is not a child-friendly Poké-painted simplification of the life-simulation genre, but instead an accomplished celebration of it, borrowing the best of all its many influences.
-
Mar 2, 2026A relaxing time-sink and creative outlet with loads of stuff to do. This is what truly great sandbox gameplay looks like.
-
Mar 2, 2026All things considered, Pokopia is better than it has any right to be. And while I certainly won't be playing it non-stop like I have been for this review, I will certainly be dropping back in regularly for the foreseeable future.
-
Mar 2, 2026While it can get repetitive and grindy, and there are some technical faults and some quality of life shortcomings, the game manages to push through due to its charm, creativity, and freedom.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia has all the makings of one of the most successful spin-offs in the entire series. It doesn't attempt to reinvent or recycle the main series' competitive formula, but consciously chooses to create a relaxing yet profound game. It's the perfect blend of the creative freedom of a sandbox builder and the serenity of a life simulation: a perfect balance of construction, connection, and discovery. In other words, Pokopia has the flavor of Animal Crossing with a sprinkling of Dragon Quest Builders, but with a Pokémon twist. And this mix creates one of the most successful cozy games of recent years, capable of providing hours and hours of fun.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a cozy, creativity-encouraging sandbox filled with Nintendo's cutest mascot animals, offering endlessly fun ways to build and shape your surroundings.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokopia succeeds in capturing the spirit of Pokémon's past without sacrificing its uniqueness, as one of the best spin-offs the franchise has ever seen.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a charming and extensive sandbox experience with a lot of content, but some compromises in graphics and controls.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia offers a truly unique simulation game experience, with a huge amount of content that will keep you entertained for hours in both single-player and multiplayer modes. The diverse options will undoubtedly appeal to simulation game enthusiasts. Though the game can be a bit slow-paced for some, and the visual presentation is mediocre.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is the freshest Pokémon experience in a long time, bursting at the seams with charm and content that rewards both curiosity and creativity. It’s an easy game to get swallowed up in, even with a few gameplay and progression issues that need ironing out. But as a first go at something different for the franchise, it’s a big win. I don’t know how Pokémon has stayed away from this kind of structure for so long, and I’d easily take a dozen more.
-
Mar 2, 2026By taking the best ideas from Dragon Quest Builders and adapting them to Pokémon, Pokopia offers a proven formula that works well. With its extensive Pokédex and numerous secrets, Koei Tecmo's game delivers the essentials, but ultimately becomes tiresome. After an exciting initial discovery phase, the excitement eventually fizzles out, and what could have been a must-have for the Switch 2 ends up being just a decent experience for fans of pocket monsters.

Apr 6, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is a bold spin-off that flips the usual Pokémon formula on its head. No battles, no duels, just a world to rebuild, habitats to create, and Pokémon to hang out with. The game really shines in its creative freedom: you can terraform, build, decorate, and even use Pokémon abilities to shape the world however you like. It’s cozy, easy-going, and instantly fun, especially if you’re creative or younger, and the first few hours are a real blast. The downside? It gets repetitive pretty quickly. The same mechanics repeat from island to island, quests and habitats feel predictable, and there’s not much challenge to keep things exciting. On paper, it’s a refreshing change of pace, but the slow rhythm and repeated tasks can bore players who like a bit more action or progression. For us, the first 10-12 hours were fun, but after that, the next 15 hours started to feel a bit samey.

Mar 11, 2026I'm sure this will be something very special for those who already love Pokémon and games like Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders 2. But once the initial wow feeling is gone, there's little that makes me want to return to Pokopia.
-
Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia met our expectations, even if it's not perfect. It does have a repetitive aspect inherent to the genre, which won't appeal to everyone, and some technical issues that can become annoying over time. However, if you enjoy relaxing atmospheres and don't want to overthink things, there's a good chance this game will satisfy you if you're willing to pay the price, because in terms of playtime, you'll definitely get your money's worth.
-
Mar 2, 2026There is a fun time to be had here, but ultimately Pokemon Pokopia doesn't explore the Pokemon side of its world and offers building quests that are mostly rigid and repetitive. As ever with Pokemon, there is enough charm to see it through, and the mechanics aren't shallow, even if they're used in aid of the same few tasks over and over again.

Mar 2, 2026Pokémon Pokopia is what happens when you let other creatives breathe new life into an increasingly worn-out formula. It's fresh, innovative and addictive, yet without losing the essence of what has been drawing millions of fans for years — and along the way, it manages to pull in those of us who got left behind. Mar 2, 2026I had literally no expectations for Pokemon Pokopia, and now I'm absolutely in love with it.
-
Mar 12, 2026Pokopia does a great job of making even the minor characters in its world stand out by giving them memorable bits of dialogue and interactions for you to stumble upon, and making them involved in the day-to-day town management by helping build structures, break down resources, and just contribute to the city’s development with ideas and gifts.
-
Mar 2, 2026For a moment, I forgot that I was playing a very mechanical life sim where monsters can feel more like tools than animals. (In some ways, Pokopia just trades one kind of labor for another.) I felt like I had actually created a comforting home for some friendly Pokémon. Not a place built by humans who capture critters for sport, but a world shaped around them.

Mar 2, 2026Like most real-time games, Pokopia is a slow burn. The entire point is to meet new pokémon (instead of catching them) as you rebuild and beautify a ruined world. But as much emphasis as Pokopia puts on slowly cultivating friendships, the game gradually transforms into a sprawling adventure that you can customize however you want.
