One of the best gore fests for the N64.

The best Resident Evil in my opinion. Leon was a very cool character. Racoon City was very interesting to explore and the puzzles were well designed. The game wasn't too long but was very intense. The only bad point are the graphics, direct port from PS, an inferior hardware.

The best resident evil to date in my opinion. It had enormous merit that this game reached Nintendo 64. It is not perfect, that static camera was a problem especially for those of us who came from playing games where we could rotate it. Still, one of the best survival horror.

Faithful port of the Playstation classic. There were three games in the franchise as well as a multitude of copycats on Sony's system but on the N64 it's rather unique which makes it even more of an essential purchase for Nintendo owners.

Angel Studios did the impossible back in 1999 with this game. They ported a PlayStation game with fully animated cutscenes to the N64. It plays just like the PlayStation version but you have the option of changing the direction of the controls if you want which was different from the PS1 version. Plus, you can control the level of violence shown to a degree and change the color of the blood. Not to mention there were more files scattered throughout this version that filled in more of the story background. I played this game a couple of times years ago and completed it and could still fire it up today and enjoy it. PlayStation was, for the most part, considered the superior system but this game showed that if you had a developer with the savvy the N64 could be just as good. Expand

Still a fun game after all these years, and a surprisingly good port, considering the FMV limitations of the n64 cartridge format. They managed to cram the entire 2 disc game onto one giant cartridge, full motion video and all. The downside to the FMV is that it had to be compressed, resulting in tinnier sounding audio, and smaller, blurry video, but it's their in its entirety. Some of the static backgrounds in the game aren't quite as eye popping as their Playstation or Dreamcast counterparts also, but the polygonal characters look much sharper. The N64 version had the option to change the color of the blood to blue or green, and had a cool randomizer feature that placed objects in different spaces every time you played a new game. If you can deal with the dated mechanics of the old style Resident Evil games, and still have your N64, Resident Evil 2 is well worth picking up. Great old school, horror fun! Expand

This was the first Resident Evil Game I ever played. Yes i did play it on n64 first and i loved it. Even though the controls were bad and some of the models don't look that great the game was still in tact. The story was amazing the enemy design is still pretty good compared to todays standards, it looks really nice (HD remake please capcom), LOVE the weapons, and the dialouge sounds niceThis was the first Resident Evil Game I ever played. This was the first Resident Evil game I played way back in 1999 maybe it was 2000? I was five or six years old! Damn I was scared. Mostley wached as my older brother played it. It was the best looking most advanced and most storydriven game I had ever seen. Anyway I just finnished scenario A as Leon a few hours ago.
This is the best Resident evil game. Just awesome.

this is the first game in the series I ever played back in the day, and needless to say, I really liked it. by today's standards, the game might fall a bit short however - especially for anyone trying it out for the first time now. but for us who played it in the 90's, it's a classic that always will be remember as one of, if not the best in the series.

I feel really bad rating this game so low, because I know that most people love this game, but I didn't really enjoy it. The camera view made it very tough for me to control the character and took away from my experience. Also gave me too many enemies in the game which made it less scary and more frustrating. Haven't played any other games in the Resident Evil franchise, but I would definitely give them a try as well as give this game another chance. Expand

I had a good time playing it. Definitely a must have nintendo 64 title. Good atmosphere, fine gameplay and a good story. When I play this game I don't really feel it has aged much, maybe that is just me. To those people that say "Oooh. the graphics are bad, and also the gameplay is hard" How ignorant can you be? RE2 has improved all technical aspect of his predecessor, along with the development of the plot and the new story, which involves more character. The control has been slightly improved. As a kid I could not have both consoles, so I was super happy when it got released for the N64 while PS1 was getting all the cool games like MGS1, Silent Hill, Crash, etc. And having cool cutscenes, now back to RE2, this game back then scared me more that I could imagine, very creative jump scares and having fun playing with friends and laugh after we screamed our lungs after a jump scare.

  1. Those that have yet to experience RE2 are missing out. Especially those in love with Acclaim’s Shadowman should appreciate this game. It’s a mature game with visuals to rave about and game play not far behind.
  2. Resident Evil 2 is not just a great game, but also proof that the N64 can do the supposedly impossible when developers put their minds to it. An incredible achievement.

Resident Evil 2 for Nintendo 64 is, quite frankly, the best version of the game anybody living in the US is going to get. It boasts improved visuals thanks to the 4MB Expansion Pak, enhanced high-resolution mode and smoothened out pre-rendered backdrops with no jaggies.
