Marvel Powers United VR's high production value can't keep secret the game's true identity: unabashed wave shooting mechanics, bland enemies, and arcade gameplay that's more about points than fun or skill. If you were hoping that Powers United would make you feel like your favorite superhero, you'll be disappointed that the game offers no story, character development/progression, or meaningful exploration of the rich Marvel universe, and instead hinges around collecting outfits, poses, and props.

The huge number of playable characters may suggest a big adventure is concealed in Marvel Powers United VR. Well, not really. But it's still worth your time, especially if you want to play with all your friends in VR.

In spite of a very classical structure and a certain underlying redundancy, in short, we perceive that Marvel Powers United VR has been realized with passion and maximum respect for the original works.

Marvel Powers United VR really is a mixed bag of goodies. One the one hand are its high production values, with gorgeous character models and scenery, easy control schemes and comfortable gameplay style. It’s the repetition that lets it down, dissolving the gameplay down to basic wave-based combat. With four friends you’ll get some life out of Marvel Powers United VR, just not the heroic gameplay most were looking for.

The experience of embodying superheroes is a lot of fun at times, but the lack of variety sets it way back.

Marvel: Powers United VR is a hard game to score, because its best characters make it feel like an 8/10 while the majority of cookie-cutter heroes bring it closer to 5/10. Ultimately it’s a little more of a muted take on the superhero VR genre than we were hoping. It’s carried by its best characters, heroes with truly unique abilities that evoke sheer blockbuster comic book joy you’ll keep coming back for. But much of its cast struggles to stand out from a set of templates that limit their capabilities and the repetitive mission structure and forgettable boss battles put a ceiling on the fun.

If you're looking for an epic sprawling all-star experience this isn't it, but I hope this fun brawl-focused base eventually leads to that and continues to improve over time with the promised upcoming support.

Picked it up last week and played most of the objectives. Like any Marvel release, this is a super polished game and it runs all nice and smooth on my machine. The amount of content and quality is amazing for this price. I mostly play as Crystal, DrStrange and Iceman.. but all characters have unique attacks and combos. Playing multiplayer and help grinding is the best.. Best game ever so far on Rift. 10/10 :D Full Review »

First of all, there are 18 heroes to choose from and instead of just getting their hands in VR you get their whole bodies. The first time I tried the Hulk I was shocked at my size compared to the other players in my group. I actually laughed out loud as I realized that he truly is a pretty big guy compared to the other characters. Second of all, although some of the heroes may play the same it does help with learning the game and keep in mind that many of them have similar powers. For example: Rocket and Star Lord both shoot guns and can hover, while Wolverine and Black Panther have claws and melee attacks. And yet, even if they may play the same there is something truly incredible about being able to become your favorite Marvel Super Hero. And finally, although people complain about the missions being repetitive, because you basically do the same things each time in different maps, I would like to point out that most multiplayer games do the same thing if you consider Death Match, Team death match, Capture the Flag, Battle Royale etc.....What makes MPU unique is that you get to work together with other players and it does a great job of making you feel like you are actually a team of Super Heroes trying to save the day! Even if you play the same map, with the same objectives, it can be a whole different experience depending on the people you play with! In conclusion, the game is extremely fun to play, the graphics are great, there is a ton of content to unlock, and I have heard that future DLC is going to be free. If you enjoy comics and have always dreamed of becoming your favorite superhero, I highly recommend you check this awesome game out! Full Review »

Pretty fun Arcade style game. 18 characters all with unique powers; and in VR it's a lot of fun. It's a Co-op Brawler. However, there's about 8 maps, but the objective is the same for each. Could have been a better launch by Sanzaru with more game modes and varying playstyle, but they've already stated and confirmed they're working on updates and free DLCs; so hopefully the repetitiveness will be addressed with a simple update.
