The ability to summon and command visionsthoughts and emotions made manifestwas indeed a palpable military threat to the other kingdoms.

Repeated brushes with cruel fate, however, quietly eat away at the bonds that keep the kingdom intact.

The twin princes of Leonis, Mont and Sterne, are certainly no exception.

Now, upon whom will the resplendent Crystals smile in this land of rivaling warlords?

In the latest work of the FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS series, experience a battle that has remained unknown in the world of FFBE...until now.

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is an excellent extension of the Final Fantasy Tactics series. The game features a charming cast of characters who embark on a memorable quest that I wasn’t expecting. Still, there are definitely some balancing issues found in the PVP offerings, which make matches much easier for those who pay. As a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics, I felt right at home in terms of the battle system and turn-based mechanics found in this adventure, which pave the way for a great mobile RPG experience.

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius has a two-sided soul: on the surface, it is a good take on the strategy side of the series; on a deeper level, its convoluted structure lead to a pay-to-win mess.

This review is based on about 9 months of gameplay. I have 15 max level characters with 4 of them being collaboration characters.

FFBE War of the Visions has a solid core gameplay that will surely please the fans of Final Fantasy Tactics games. There are tons of things to take into account that will surely entertain the most hardcore players but can in turn be a turn-off for slightly more casual players.

Continuing on with positives the audio-visual experience is a solid one. The artstyle is just gorgeous and beautiful music accompanies the player no matter where they are in the game. Collaboration events with other Final Fantasy titles bring over well adapted versions of characters, enemies and environments. Voice acting is good and brings the (very complex and all over the map) story to life.

Then to the negatives. The game is too meta-heavy. The character upgrade system is made so complex and convoluted that you will spend most of the time just watching menus. Maxing a character is a feat that takes months and and a lot of resource farming is needed.

Gachas divide people. If you detest gachas this game is not for you. The gacha system itself in this game is both fair and unfair. Fair in that there are many special banners with decent additional perks. Sometimes there are even Step-up banners that guarantee a featured character on Step 3 or 5. The unfairness comes from a massive pool of characters and as a result a poor rate for getting worthwhile characters. Depending on when you are playing there might even be 20+ banners to pull from. You need a ton of duplicates to make a character useable ( = maxed ) so unless you are ok with farming a couple of shards per day from hard quests you are going to have hard time making anything that is not featured viable to use. Unless you have a ton of gems (50k+) stored up or are willing to spend a fortune in real money the limited time collaboration characters are not going to be for you.

All of that being said the game is very enjoyable in it's core. If you can live with it's annoyances there is a lot to be enjoyed. Hopefully Square Enix can one day bring a game with this core and artstyle to somewhere like Switch as a premium game with no micro transactions.

It offers great visuals, sound and even voice overs but suffers from heavy grinding to succeed as free to play. Sure, if you invest a lot of time, you can get away without spending. Maybe it is just my opinion, but I dont want to grind an insane amount of hours on my mobile phone. Expand

Also the crafting system? YIKES. Expand

The game is designed to be intentionally, unbelievably tedious--so boring and grindy that you would have to play for hours each day just to make small progress....or you can pay literally hundreds of dollars to quicken the pace. And there is so much leveling up (and hundreds of different resources needed to level things up) that it is overwhelming. Level up characters, level up swords, level up abilities, level up esper spirits, level up limit breaks....the list goes on. But you can pay hundreds of dollars to speed it up! Of course, you need characters to level up, so go ahead an pay $40 for a small random chance to get a quality high-rarity character....but you'll probably end up with a mediocre one. Thanks for playing! Oh, and be sure to pay more for a chance at a limited time character....oh, you can't level those up unless you get the necessary ingredients....did we mention that those ingredients are limited time too, and you don't have enough time to grind them up before the event ends? No? Well, you can pay to get those! Only $79.99, and we'll be happy to provide them for you!

This game is absolute garbage. And the biggest shame is that the underlying engine, graphics, and concept is solid. But it gets ruined within the first few hours of playing, as it becomes obvious that this game is designed to take money from whales, obsessive collectors (i.e. mentally ill) and gaming addicts (i.e. mentally ill). Predatory gambling games like these are the reason that so many people call for laws to ban this evil stuff. This game is disturbing.

Expand
