Unlike the complicated still-lifes of hidden picture games or the sprawling environments of adventure games, the treasures of Vignettes lay concealed within the landscape of one typical household object. We must look around and into and over and through these ordinary, boring things to find something new. And that experience in itself is extraordinary.

Vignettes may appear simple on the surface, but the game is much deeper than that once you start, and it ends up being hard to stop. Plus, the interactions with some objects provide fun extras, such as rescuing cute cats, time travel, selfies on a mountain, and more. They’re not exactly obvious, but part of the fun is discovering all of these secrets for yourself.

At the risk of irrelevancy to most DDNet readers, I will add the quality family time Vignettes gave us is worth more than ten times its admission fee. Make no mistake about it, I warmly recommend you take up on the invitation, make a reservation, and roll up for the Vignettes magical mystery tour!

Vignettes is perhaps a little too mysterious, but that's a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things. It's an otherwise entertaining and stylish puzzle game that will definitely mess with your head in a lot of creative and mind-bending ways.

If you’re willing to step away from the idea of goal-oriented achievement, Vignettes achieves something almost transcendent. Like its name implies, it feels like a series of short stories about objects, meditations on the secret lives of stuff. What do you really know about a lamp, anyway? Have you ever really looked at it? Isn’t it weird, how pear-shaped they usually are? Hey, who first came up with the lamp shade?
