    STORYLINE

    The story is based on the Three Kingdoms era and begins where Guan Yu receives the news of Liu Bei. He leaves Cao Cao escorting the wives of Liu Bei. Cao Cao’s subordinates felt that Guan Yu behaved far too rudely and arrogantly by leaving without bidding farewell and wanted to pursue and bring him back. However, Cao Cao gives Guan Yu a clear passage to travel as he is well aware that none of his generals can defeat him.

    Guan Yu begins his journey to reunite with his sworn brother, Liu Bei. Along the 5 passes, he encounters 6 generals. The generals of Cao Cao refuse to clear the way for Guan Yu. Infuriated, Guan Yu kills all of them. However, he soon realizes that Liu Bei was no longer in Yuan’s territory and had left for Runan. Guan Yu and his party then make their long journey back and finally reunite with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei.

    A hack-and-slash button-masher with an excellent story, good controls, and striking visuals. I really liked it, but I do wish it had a touch more depth via customization so there was a reason to replay it beyond seeing if I could rack up 4,000 kills instead of just 3,500.

    A fun jaunt through a war-torn ancient China, and I'll be the first to say that mowing down lines of soldiers is rather thrilling. But without more depth or a decent storyline, Vanquish remains a simple hack-and-slash.

    A constant brutal ride that challenges players with its gameplay and art style, but might be too much for anyone that's not a hardcore fan of Action-RPGs.

    I can only recommend then that if you want style and substance, you should look to Gamevil's other stylish RPG - Hybrid - instead.

    The on-rails gameplay, lack of control variety, and bland graphics hurt Gamevil's horseback hack 'n slash.

    Vanquish: The Oath of Brothers is a hack-and-slash button-masher with an excellent story, good controls, and striking visuals. I really liked it, but I do wish it had a touch more depth via customization so there was a reason to replay it beyond seeing if I could rack up 4,000 kills instead of just 3,500.
