I've been playing on and off for about 4 years, since 2016. This game started off pretty grindy. It seemed forever ago, but I'm trying to remember what it was like for a new person, and then comparing it to how it is now as a verteran.
It gives a "Beginners Fest" where you can earn a pretty good card that, despite being SR, is still usable even once you get UR/LR. (I'm not certain on the meanings, but it goes N Normal, R Rare, SR secret Rare, UR Ultra Rare and LR Legendary Rare). The story is essentially the Celestial Realm is in trouble, and Hades from the Demon Realm is attacking. Using Maidens (cards you get) you push her army back.
Characters:
While having a few characters, each have their personality traits while having multiple cards. Hades, for example, had an arrogant "Better than you" attitude in the story, but with each update for events, she's become more of a embarrassed type of personality, yet still arrogant girl. Fenrir is very defensive of Skoll. Oracle, the main character who talks most in the story, is very humble and speaks in an old time manner.
The gameplay is basic but fun. Select your cards, give them troops (HP) and attack your enemies. Each card has at least one skill. Depending on the rarity, the skill increases in power and how often it can be used. LRs can have 3 skills, two pre set and one "custom" skill you can give them.
Now I remember thinking "how the F*** do you get an LR?!" It's not difficult, but it's a bit grindy. As you play and do you can earn tickets to trade in (Maiden Ticket Exchange), as well as Rankings on events. Also, during events, you can trade items for LR tickets. There are also other activities that one can participate in to earn LR summon tickets. Note* When getting a LR summon ticket, it will NOT guarantee a LR.
Once you build an Alliance Hall, you may join an alliance. Not much is to it, save for "Goddess Worship (donate Friendship points, R or N cards for 3 different types of cards). The best aspect of joining an Alliance is being able to participate in Alliance Bingo Battles. During this event, 5 alliances will spend certain times during a day (in 1 hour intervals) fighting each other. You earn "rings" which can be traded for items or cards. Unfortunately, active alliances are hard to come by.
Of note, I've had 3 phones since I started. You can link accounts through twitter and Facebook, it ddn't work once. I contacted support and they got back to me within a day. Within a week (because they check who you are, what's your Kingdom Name, level, alliance etc so they know you're not scamming someone) they gave me my account back.
