Thor: The Dark World is definitely a pretty game, and a fun one at that. Though the graphics never approach anything like Infinity Blade’s gorgeous visuals, it’s still a graphically-impressive title that stays true to the aesthetics of its source material and is a treat on Retina displays.

Thor: The Dark World is a very interesting MOBA style RTS, packed with lots of minions, allies, powers and missions to unlock. What a shame it also sports a very aggressive freemium approach.

Laden with clunky controls, messy visuals, and shallow combat, Thor: The Dark World is not the marvel we expected.

It’s got the looks to be the game that Thor deserves; it just still doesn’t nail the feel.

As lunk-headed and clumsy as a drunken Viking, Thor takes a hammer to the action-RPG genre with its clunky controls and cynical IAP system.

Thor: The Dark World epitomizes the problems with movie tie-ins, and freemium style to deliver a rudimentary experience that isn’t worth your time.

Good looks and a blockbuster movie tie-in don't save Thor: The Dark World from its sloppy battles and lame freemium model.

Visually noisy and mechanically unreliable, Thor: The Dark World is a confused free-to-play hack-'em-up which reduces its lead character to a club-footed spectator.

It's repetitive, it's missing its final world, and it's buggy.

Had Gameloft just charged a flat fee and offered a virtual joypad control set-up, Thor: The Dark World would've fared much better in the final analysis. Instead, it simply feels like a bit of a chore. Save your cash for the film.

I love this game, I love Thor, he's so cool, but the game is a little dark, which is to expect given the name. Game's pretty bad though.

Mindless hack-n'-slash that never evolves beyond simply mashing the attack button. It tries to add some by giving you the ability to summonMindless hack-n'-slash that never evolves beyond simply mashing the attack button. It tries to add some by giving you the ability to summon units in the middle of battle, but it just adds unnecessary clutter as two groups of AI clash. The only thing it has going for it are the graphics. They are very impressive for a mobile game.

As you might expect microtransactions can be found all throughout this game, but they aren't necessary for regular gameplay. By far the biggest disappointment though is that it doesn't really use any material from the movie. Locations and familiar faces from the universe make appearances, but it never really feels like Thor. It's just a boring game that isn't worth anyone's time.
