In my view, a good game entertains, while a great game creates a lasting impression of being entertained. This War of Mine goes beyond that by also impacting how I feel about certain decisions within the game and causing self-reflection. It goes without saying that such emotions would not be possible without the game actually being good to start with.

Intense, challenging and well designed. This War of Mine show us the raw and frustating side of the war from the point of view of the survivals; a real roller coaster of feelings, decisions and gameplay mechanics well chosen to create a great experience in a game of survival and resource management.

This War Of Mine plays well, is challenging, and is a very good game. It just also happens to be a very good piece of art.

This War of Mine isn’t exactly “fun,” but it’s definitely a game worth playing.

A harrowing and often tragic exploration of life in a war. This is a must buy.

This War of Mine represents the living proof that it is possible to make an intelligent depiction of war without necessarily compromising the entertainment value or the mechanics involved in a good game.

This War of Mine is probably not an incredibly remarkable game, but his existence is a witness of what this medium can do to deliver a strong, powerful message. Oh, and by the way, the tablet version is brilliant.

I just have one doubt regarding the iOS version of This War of Mine. Depressing struggle of civilians for survival is not a great fit for a mobile game that you’re gonna play in little chunks while commuting. [10/2015, p.75]

Disturbing game about civilians trapped in a war-torn city. As a survival game, it's the best of its kind.

You will struggle to stay alive. You'll struggle to survive without hurting others. Kill and rob and your people will become depressed and need to help each other cope with what they've done. Drink, and your people will become drunk and hungover the next day, performing worse but helping them cope with their situation. Make cages to catch rats for food, catch rain water and filter it, break into houses and raid their fridge, use alcohol to treat wounds, read books and smoke cigarettes to improve your mood, and overall, suffer.

It's a very bleak look at war from a civilian's perspective, and it does it beautifully in its own dark way. It's refreshing to see a game that does the opposite of glorifying war and combat.

... and most importantly, the game play is deep and very fun, but not easy in the slightest! If you can stomach the dark atmosphere and enjoy survival games, you have to check it out.

This War of Mine didn't quite tug the emotional strings as the game was intended to, at least for me anyway. The game has a beautiful art style and good sound design, but doesn't run particularly well on iOS. There is a delay in touch responses, and low framerates are sometimes quIte jarring. I think the game could be better if there was greater variation in scenarios, events, and dialogue between survivors as well.
