The premise was an engaging one, but unfortunately I found the execution lacking.

A strong sense of mystery, puzzles which are either inoffensively brief or intriguingly maddening, a considerate user interface, and a promise of future updates add up to a generally pleasing experience.

Though, credits should be given to the developers for making a game based on science, codebreaking and ciphers. Three points for that.

My first impression was very positive. But towards the end of chapter 2 my fascination gradually turned into frustration, and I realized again that making a GOOD puzzle game require far more skills and effort than simply making a DIFFICULT one.

If you enjoy spending a lot of time trying to figure out the answers when game developers basically ask «Try to guess what we’re thinking about now?», then fine. And if you like asking yourself over and over «WHAT the h%#@ am I supposed to do?» instead of «Now, HOW can I solve that?», then this game is for you.

I forced myself to finish chapter 2, and worked through the first half of chapter 3. By that time, I had reluctantly searched the web for a few solutions, only to confirm that I could easily have been fiddling around for hours and hours on some levels, and still managed to overlook the silly detail needed to solve the level. So, I decided to end my journey there, and uninstalled both the main game and its support app "The Compendium" with pleasure.

Even if I was pretty fed up, I still gave the first 15-20 levels of The Guides Axiom (the sequel to this game) a fair chance, since I had already downloaded it. It seems like The Axiom is just more of the same stuff, wrapped in a slightly different interface. But a new feature in the sequel is a suspicious pay-to-solve system...
