An actual upgrade compared to the original “Sonic Forces,” Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is more entertaining and visually appealing. However, this game, much like it’s inspiration, is repetitive and requires no skill whatsoever. What makes this much more appealing than Sonic Forces are the characters, and the fact that the game is not as repetitive, but still is.

The game is fun, and I really wish I could give it a higher rating than this. The problem is...it's multiplayer only and you have to be online. Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a solid mobile game. It’s a lane runner that has you go against different people online in a competition of speed. The chest system isn’t too annoying, and for every victory chest, which takes time to unlock, is a placement chest, that you can open instantly after finishing a race. The controls are simple, yet complex enough to keep you intrigued through the whole experience. I’d recommend this game to anyone because for mobile game standards, this is a home run. Expand

This is a good game for the most part. When you get to the higher tiers, it gets infuriating if you don't upgrade your characters quickly (but only upgrade the ones you're actually using, don't waste rings).

The camera is screwed up, Metal Sonic's steal item is a douche, literally every boost sucks unless it's wind boost or Big's boost, then suddenly they're op as all hell, also did I mention the fire boost that will ruin your life. It's all anxiety inducing fun that'll eventually probably give you a heart attack or stroke if you're like me and get frustrated pretty damn easily. Literally all trap items are the devil, and have I mentioned Metal Sonic's steal item being a douche?
Sonic is weak asf for being T H E M A I N E S T M A I N C H A R A C T E R, and please buff Rouge's lightning, or just replace her lightning completely. And, if you play as Sonic or Tails or as a low leveled special character, expect to die immediately if you aren't careful. But, even though I'm saying the damn thing's bad, the damn thing's pretty damn good imo. The trophy system though, that thing's pretty damn horrid to me. OH I ALMOST FORGOT-
Spring Cream is a demon disguise, HEDGE MAZE.
Another thing, Zazz's star trail can go die.

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a brilliant racing game for your phone. It enables you to put your skills of memorisation and quick reaction to the test against other Sonic fans across the whole world. Your performance in races are measured in the amount of trophies you collect. As you progress higher in tiers, you start to unlock more tracks, and gain more rewards from chests. However, you start to earn less trophies, meaning every race is more challenging to perform well in, but it gives more satisfaction when you do place 1st, and ultimately, a better feeling in yourself when you advance to the next tier. Currently, I sit at 1,341, with my highest counted being 1,383. At Tier 4 (Specialist), it is a tough challenge to progress forward, but that's the beauty in the game. The challenging feel makes you want to try harder, in order to advance faster.

Next are the characters. There are a total of 15 characters for you to choose from, split into 3 tiers of rarity - Common, Rare, and Super Rare. Personally, I love playing as Amy Rose. Her power-up's make her an ideal choice if used correctly, and I just love zapping people in 1st place. Really handy when you're in 2nd. You want to get in front? Zap! Off you go! 1st place awaits! It's quite fun. However, I've seen people complain about the use of some characters, involving their power-up's. These characters include, but are not limited to, Vector and Espio. Yes, their abilities can be easy to manipulate, but honestly, it provides opportunities for improvement. I'm really hoping the development team look into possible improvements for the characters who need it. Personally, I'd like to see a use of Espio's ability as a chameleon to turn invisible, or for one of his power-ups to represent his skills as a trained ninja (maybe his shuriken? That is how you spell it, right?)

The tracks are the next topic of discussion. I don't mean the tracks as in the music, by the way. I mean the tracks as in where you race. Overall there are 3 main locations where you race - Green Hill, Sunset Bridge, and Sky Sanctuary. Each scene has multiple tracks to race at, unlockable as you reach a new tier. While I am disappointed there are only 3 locations, I'm glad that there are multiple race tracks for you to memorise. If the development team were to ask for suggestions for a new location, I can tell you that, if timezones work well for me, I would be one of the first to suggest a new location. I have a few on my mind I would love to see.

Lastly, let's talk about the mode of the game itself. In the most recent patch at the time of this review, there is only the online multiplayer mode. Now, we've discussed this in the game's official Discord server (#NotSponsored) a few times, but we have some good ideas of game modes we'd like to see. The first could be a Last Man Standing mode. It could run like an endless battle where the players have 5 lives, and every collision with something would cost one life. And then there's the Rings mode, but I won't dwell into too much information unless I'm approached about it.
And finally, we could definitely benefit from a friends system. It would enable us to create a race that could be locked, only accessible via a code shared by the room host. Once the four players are in, the host selects a track, which takes into account the trophies that all players have. Honestly, if I see this as an actual in-game option, I will fall to my knees and scream "THANK YOU MOBILE GODS!"

In short, this is still an early time to say whether the game is good or bad, but it looks very promising. I'm looking forward to what future patches have in store for this game. And damnit I want Infinite in the game. If he gets added, the races will definitely dive into real business! Just watch it sky up, no doubt! #Infinite4SpeedBattle

    That's it?
It's like a temple run game + multiplayer racing + mario kart traps + sonics IP. I mean, it's good stuff all right, but only multiplayer and having NOTHING ELSE really puts this down.

Even if the gameplay is fun... it's just too little, too simple.

Great tracks, thought there could be more, good music, should be more, good graphics for a phone game, a huge character roster, loads of items and overall, just a really fun game to last time with. It is also updated regularly so there is no neglect to this game from it's creators.

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is a pretty surprising attempt at the endless run genre, since it's a multiplayer-based game where you have to beat three other players across a series of levels.

It can feel a little bit grindy, but Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is actually a very fun multiplayer game in short doses.
