The game has a lot of replay value with the amount of content, and always having a fresh new experience is satisfying. As someone who grew up with classic games, I love the vintage pixel art style, and the chiptunes are amazing. Controls are simple and easy to learn, and the game is fairly challenging but still accessible to everyone. It’s definitely a game to have if you’re a roguelike RPG fan.

This isn’t a game inspired by old school RPG’sas a matter of fact this is an old school RPG, even if its release date says 2015. Pixel Heroes is engaging, unforgiven and most of all fun.

Tough yet satisfying is about right for Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic.

The game ends up being a roller coaster ride that starts fun, becomes frustrating, then gets enjoyable again until it cedes to tedium, taking one last-minute hairpin turn into frustration depending on your party build.

A sharp-edged retro RPG with a sense of humour and a lot of content.

You pick a team of three and off you go, in a linear march forward (reminiscent of the Oregon Trail). Like most Roguelikes, your success or failure depends largely on the party makeup and the items equipped..

At least in Soda Dungeon, you start over and keep your progress when the party is defeated. Here, it's permadeth. And one sour encounter throws away hours of work. Given the capricious nature of this game's difficulty, it's not worth risking investment.
