It's not groundbreaking, but I can think of worse ways to spend $0.99.

Paper Monsters is a beautiful, imaginative, and charming, and technically proficient platformers that's only let down by less than stellar gameplay.

The imaginative artdesign with its paperfolding antics feels fresh. Unfortunately you can't say the same for Paper Monsters' core mechanics with its simple jump-&-run gameplay that you've seen a million times.

While there's no denying that the core platforming is pleasant and the visuals are a cut above the majority of iOS games, Crescent Moon's charming little game lacks the creativity its presentation suggests is going to be bursting from every seam. Fun while it lasts, but a little too safe to be considered one of the genre's best on iOS.

All in all though, as good looking and charming as it is, it needs a little more imagination. And for a game who's main character is a cardboard box and lives in a land of paper, that's saying something.
