Jan 28, 2011N.O.V.A. 2 is a great sequel to what was a great game last year; the inclusion of a career-based online multiplayer gives the game a life well beyond the single-player, but don't rush in to the online matches because the single-player is definitely worth finishing first.
-
Jan 28, 2011It's not leaps and bounds beyond what we've seen before, but as far as first-person shooters on the App Store go, N.O.V.A. 2 is the grandaddy of them all.
-
Jan 31, 2011Gameloft has boosted the FPS genre on mobile devices... again. N.o.v.a. 2 is not only the most important game in its Winter lineup, but it's also the best first person shooter on iPhone and iPod Touch, thanks to an impressive multiplayer mode and a single-player campaign that combines a great control scheme with an extremely rare graphics. Of course, the game lacks of originality, while the plot is not so catchy. But it's an insignificant flaw, mostly if compared to the overall quality of the title.
-
Feb 18, 2026It's easy to knock Gameloft for blatantly ripping off other games, but you have to be impressed with the level of quality in which they do it. And while N.O.V.A. borrows more than a few ideas from the Halo series, it also shows that iOS is more than capable of delivering a full console experience that can easily stand on its own.

Games Master UKFeb 18, 2026An impressive, fun single player and full online multiplayer make this unmissable. [Mar 2011, p.94]

Mar 20, 2011I love and hate N.O.V.A at the same time. To deny it's the definitive FPS and one of the best looking games on the App Store would be plain stupid, but at the same time it's also one of the most shameless clones I've ever played.
-
Jan 28, 2011N.O.V.A. 2 is a great shooter with a thrilling campaign and even better multiplayer that will have you hooked.
-
Jan 28, 2011Despite the critism, leveled mainly at my a high hopes for the game, it deserves the high rating for the multi-player alone, with the single campaign earning a 4/5 if I had to score it separately.
-
Jan 28, 2011Fans of first person shooters, and especially the original N.O.V.A., will definitely not be disappointed with this fantastic sequel. With its painstaking amount of action and detail, N.O.V.A. 2 really does feel almost console worthy.
-
Jan 28, 2011N.O.V.A. 2 is a stunning shooter that should not be missed, especially if you were a fan of the original. Everything has been improved, from the inclusion of the monster mechs to the 10-player online matches that work without hiccups.
-
Jul 5, 2011Great graphics, simple controls, exciting multiplayer, and a diverse list of weapons make this game really fun to play. N.O.V.A. 2: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance from Gameloft is on sale this 4th of July weekend for just 99 cents in the App Store.
-
Jan 28, 2011Even if the graphic engine has not been revamped, this second chapter of the famous iPhone FPS is still a very nice product. With a fabulous 10 player online mode and a lot of missions to attend, you'll have a lot of fun, even if it's a "more of the same". You should wait for a price cut only if you have the previouse game and you are not interested to multiplayer.
-
Feb 18, 2026But those controls are what I keep coming back to. Frankly, I really detest playing an iOS game that has virtual buttons. Gameloft has done what it can, but this is far from an ideal platform for first person shooters.
