Apr 6, 2017I love the vintage aesthetic because it takes me back to my childhood, and the music is well done. The roguelike and randomly generated levels may not be for everyone, but I do like that it keeps things fresh and interesting every time you play. The touch screen controls do need a bit more work before they feel streamlined for a touch interface, though, so hopefully that is coming sooner rather than later. I do recommend Meganoid(2017) if you enjoy tough roguelike platformer games.

Apr 6, 2017I applaud Meganoid (2017) for its ambition. The roguelike platforming that Spelunky offers feels like a great fit for mobile. Unfortunately though, this game doesn't quite capture the magic of its source material, offering a decent, but sub-optimal, platforming for the kind of game it's trying to be.

Apr 6, 2017While it gets the core gist of the Spelunky formula right, and does some rather cool things, the game suffers from its short development time, leading to a lack of variation in level designs. Also, the game just doesn't have the tight platformer feel necessary for what the demanding difficulty requires to give the player a good shot at succeeding.

Apr 6, 2017For what it is, Meganoid 2017 is fine if you can get past the control irritations and weirdly spontaneous platforming rule changeups. There’s a fun game here, I can see it. But I so rarely get to experience it with everything being the way it is. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that an update takes care of the button issue if nothing else. But hey, if none of that is an issue for you, then more power to you. We hope you can find the fun that we keep coming so close to.

May 8, 2017Meganoid 2017 is an incredibly challenging game, but it is one that hangs on this challenge because of both intended design and poor controls. When you die from a laser that was off screen, it teaches you to tread more carefully and pay attention to your environment. When you slip off the edge of a platform into a spike trap due to the controls, it just leads just annoyance and frustration. I like certain elements about this game: parts of the presentation and level design, plus the large array of item, but I can’t see myself coming back to it anytime soon.
