So yea, it's still not completely free to play friendly per say, but recently they have been giving Super rarity options some new tracks. And the silly gambling pipes are gone, now you can just buy want and leave it at that. Not liking the Mii meta though...

Mario Kart doesn't translate to mobile all too well. It's fine, but the experience is pretty soulless, and with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe right there, why would you play this?

Mario Kart Tour is - quite simply, Mario Kart dumbed down for a smartphone.

Despite the simplicity and pay-to-win nature of the ranked cup, however, the constant changing of tracks still makes for a fun experience. With the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, however, Tour is slowly becoming more and more irrelevant as time goes on, and the end draws near for it.

this game was a rushed, half finished, cash grab of a game. This game didn't even have real multiplayer, and with a subscription service of over 6 dollars a month, it simply isn't worth it.

No sane person would choose this over a legitimate console based Mario Kart game.

Fast forward to December 2022, and it has been improved massively. The lute pipes are gone (you can buy characters, karts and gliders from the shop with rubies, which are now easy to get, thankfully), the controls are better, there are tons of characters, tons of really great tracks and there's battle mode. There's also an online mode, but it sucks because it is laggy as hell and the rubber banding is ridiculous. Though why is it even legal for there to be a Mario game where your not even guaranteed to play as Mario himself from the start?!!!!! Nintendo have revived this game. It is good now and I recommend everyone tries it out.

Well, I'm looking at them based on their gameplay, graphics and fun. So, first of all, let me start by saying Mario Kart Tour's controls are awful. They never feel fluid and require you put your finger on the screen so you can barely see anything and the kart usually goes a bit to the left and a bit to the right. The game also feels slow but although the controls suck, the tracks in this one are the highlight. Of course, some tracks are unfortunately locked behind the idiotic Gold Pass, which is where most of the fun is locked, but the tracks you play are either faithful recreation of the most brilliant tracks from other games, or one of the games new tracks, which are pretty solid versions of real world locations, yet some of them feel either stereotyped, a bit rushed or most commonly, 400,000,000,000 versions of the same track. Now that those things are out of the way, let us talk about the dark, gritty bits. Microtransactions. Most of these aren't apparent as soon as you play the game but after a while, you'll get bored of the game telling you to buy the Gold Pass if you want to play over half of it's content. Also, although I don't have that much of an issue with the loot boxes, they should make these MUCH more specific. Overall, if you want a good Mario Kart portable game, play either Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart: Super Circuit or of course Mario Kart DS. Expand

This is a pretty good game. The tracks are pretty good, and they have improved over time, The only reason this is a eight is because of the microtransactions, plus the controls are weird. But it's a mobile game, so it's kind of forgivable. In conclusion, great game for mobile, would recommend.

The new courses vary from very bland and boring from beautiful and fun to explore racetracks, and the retro course selection is amazing (the biggest in any Mario Kart game), and some of them looks awesome (take the newly improved N64 Choco Mountain for example). The roster turns out to be filling, the remixes of races and music not impressive enough, a menu much too confusing (useless money, a gacha shop), and an EXORBITATING price; which makes the game frustrating and we feel a feeling of stagnation. However, in gameplay it remains fun and balanced, working on all phones without any issues. I advise you to test (since it is free) to give you your opinion.

You don't even control accelerating. you just sort of turn..... That's it. And wow did Nintendo take a page out of EA's book. Microtransactions..... The games main currency is rubies? Why rubies? What about oh idk maybe THE CURRENCY THAT HAS BEEN RELEVANT IN MARIO SINCE 1985! COINS! Either way you must use rubies to unlock characters ,karts etc. But you pretty much have to buy rubies to have the smallest chance to get the character you desire. This is downright greedy. I wasn’t really a Super Mario fan back in the old Gameboy days. Not because my family couldn’t afford to have one, but because I didn’t like the pixelated graphics of the game (I apparently have the same situation with Minecraft right now). Until I saw the Mario spin-off kart game around 2011 being played by my classmate on a DS. At first, I felt intrigued with the improvement of the animation with the characters being 3D compared to the first design of Mario game. It may seem like your typical car racing game, but the game is designed with colourful karts (as the name implies) and amusing defensive items that you get along the way aside from the speed boost.

Fast forward, Nintendo released Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for their newest platform design switch. It comes with characters from the classic Mario game, and with the amiibo characters that you could buy separately as action figures which you scan and put among your choice of characters. Modes of play varies from grand prix, time trials, vs race, battle, and even against online players. Nintendo did a great job with the tracks having different features, obstacles, and settings. You could join various contest as well and get new karts, wheel, and glider or parachute design. The game card could be a little bit pricy though, not to mention the game being exclusive to the switch console only. Overall, it’s a great game for young ones and adults as well. Controls on the switch is similar to driving as it comes with sensor, but with the absence of breaks. Graphics is great on the TV, but from 50 frames, it could reduce up to 30 as players increases.

On the other hand, it was not until 2019 that the Mario Kart version was released for android and iOS. The game is very similar to the one in switch, from the graphics, to the game play. Although it is free to play, you might need to spend some money to buy special characters and karts for extra points and good boost on the race. You could still buy them with coins and jewels earned from the race and completing quest. Controls could also be based on sensor, like driving or manual. What sets it a part from the one in Nintendo switch is that it usually features special events with characters on different costumes and new tracks based on season. When the new season comes, there are new quest and records to break. Every update comes with excitement. Kudos Nintendo for such wonderful gamevolution!!!

But when Nintendo began to released titles for smartphones, I was all on board! I played Mario Kart Tour when it released, and it solidified my belief that the Mario Kart series should never have adapted to fit the screens of iOS and Android devices. To start, it would have been exceptionally better had they formatted the game to be played from a horizontal perspective. Next off, the offered tracks are bland and don't express much vibrancy. But everything I have typed so far is nothing compared to my experience with this title's controls. The touch controls are terrible and your hands will cover up half the screen. Likewise, the motion controls are nothing short of a nightmare. Turning my device from side to side, even when the game required the slightest bit of movement, felt so unnatural and clunky. By now, I'm sure you've noticed that this game is an enormous downgrade from home and handheld console experiences. Mario Kart Tour's 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc are the slowest versions of Mario Kart I've ever played. To unlock 200cc, which I'm sure isn't that much of an upgrade, requires you to pay for the Gold Pass, an add-on subscription service that will cost you $5 per month for access to more useless in-game rewards. First-time users are allowed a two-week free trial for the service, but it's more or less pointless to continue paying afterward. The app is targeted toward younger users, but I can't even see children finding value in such a lackluster, hard-to-control experience. Nintendo also makes you think that you're playing against other real-life users most of the time, but they simply add in non-player characters to races, give them usernames, and trick you via this method. I think all these factors justify my score of zero. Expand

Mario Kart Tour is a money-grubbing, boring and uneventful game, translating the classic Mario Kart gameplay into a generic and painfully simple mobile racer, praying on the young kids playing it by trying to nickle and dime them at every step of the way. It's simply a mediocrity, but most of all - Mario Kart Tour is a disappointment

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a Nintendo game that got so popular that it appears in almost every console it is available past SNES, Mario Kart is a fun kart racer that everyone enjoys playing with iconic Mario characters and a few little guests in the process. It now finally revs up into the mobile gaming market (Android and iOS) with Mario Kart Tour. You race through tours within multiple cups, with each cup including three standard races and one challenge. Tours lasts for two weeks, and it rotates as the next tour is announced. I just started not long ago and it is not too bad of an attempt with this game. Controls are not perfect, even something as simple as doing a trick can cause accidental item usage. Of course you can change the control schemes in its settings to make it "easier" for gaming sessions. The game comes with Multiplayer (though at launch, not from the get go), and you unlock new drivers, karts, and gliders with rubies and coins.

Now the part that we are going to have to get use to is the fact that this game comes with microtransactions, so to get the most out of it, it involves cash. Yeah. It's bad but for a Free To Play game, that is pretty necessary so that businesses can get money out of it for future content releases. Of course you can give them feedback or requests for any changes, features and even bug fixes. Now for coins and rubies, you can get rubies and coins by either leveling up by racing for podium finishes, completing challenges to earn Grand Stars to advance... I'm not going to mention about it. To get the things you want, you need to grind or pay. Damn. You can spend rubies in Coin Rush mode to get coins as Gold Mario, or spend it on the Pipe Pulls for a chance to get new characters and that week's Spotlight. The chances of getting Spotlight of anything is very slim, and you can check it out in the Details. So that is how you get new stuff. You can spend coins at the Shop to buy the things you need. If you got tickets, you can level up your character, kart, or glider's base points which are the points you get at the start of the race. There is a limit on how much EXP you get daily, and if you check out the game each day, you can get some Daily Rewards.

To get Grand Stars, you need to race and do your typical Mario Kart manouvers to get points. You can get up to 5 on each race, and up to 3 on each challenges in the Tours. I heard about the bad rep that is happening with this game initally, but I think you should give it a go at least once to get the MKT Experience. You might run into a few bugs and that, but if you know what you are in for, I suggest give it a shot. To get the most out of it, the Gold Pass subscription (a monthly subscription) allows you to try 200cc Mode and get a bit more rewards. It's a bit cheaper than the other Paid Content, but if you need it, go for it. There is no mirror mode, the game is very much MK7 on a phone. But the bonus is that these tracks has Reverse and Trick Variants (R, T & R/T) which is awesome to think about it. Why didn't Mario Kart games of the console thought about it. Depending on what Tour it is, you'll be able to race on courses based on real-life cities such as Paris, New York, and even Vancouver.

If you want to have the Mario Kart experience with you everywhere you go on your phone, this game is exactly what I'm talking about. Good little tip, make sure you have an up-to-date phone and have good amount of battery life on it, because much like games that are this big, MKT is a power hungry beast! (There is an option to put it on battery saver mode in the Settings of the game) Thought I might warn you, controls are very much odd.

I like the concept of being able to play Mario Kart on the go, but the controls can be difficult to use due to their simplicity, as ironic as that may sound.
The courses are almost all retro tracks and most of the time they are just changed to be backwards or have added jump ramps. If you really want a mobile Mario Kart, then I would say that the game is worth it, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Game is horrible, it does not function correctly, when you are sometimes on old phones like Note 3 or iPhone 2, it keeps saying date is incorrect, even if it is.

Second, the character selection is trash, most characters cannot be bought and are limited, sometimes the tracks are awful because some of them are not well made or poor texture.

Adopting the mobile monetization model was obnoxious from day 1, but now ranked cups have courses requiring that you buy a specific item pack (separate from, and $40 on top of the gold subscription) to get the full point and item box advantage. The definition of pay to win.

Ok this is sad. With this game Nintendo shows how greedy can be. You need to pay for everything, literally. I know it is a free to start game, but this is ridiculous and unfair. We can't allow companies to normalize abusing gambling in videogames such as this game.

    1. Do you need another racer to your game? No prob, you only need to spend 5 red gems to unlock one racer RANDOMLY. And you can get a racer that you already have, meaning that even paying you could get ANYTHING NEW. Needless to say, 3 red gems cost 20 dollars. To make things worse, long known characters as Mario or Luigi are RARE, yes, Mario is a rare character in his own game. **** gambling.

    2. Nintendo spit on your face when you finish a race and they "give" you rewards... but only one out of three. The other two rewards you need to unlock them by ..... guess... PAYING a monthly subscription, of course racers, karts and wings are not included, this subscription is only for unlocking rewards.

    3. Of course you can unlock a specific character at the store, but for a 20 dollars charge. Mario Kart 8 deluxe is cheaper.

They fool us by making us believe that we are playing with other people, but not... this is not a multiplayer game for now, i assume multiplayer has additional cost. And the most insulting thing is that it is a pay to win game. If you pay, you could get better results each race by using the correct kart or character. Nintendo wants money, they don't care if this is a **** with horrible gameplay, grabbing money form people is what matters.

There are a variety of control options the player can utilize to make their gaming experience more enjoyable.
The graphics for this game aren't bad, especially when this is the first Mario Kart mobile game to be released.
50cc, 100cc, and 150cc serve as the game's "difficulty", which is a good indicator of the player's skill level.

Here's what this game struggles at:
Like many other games and apps, this game has a HUGE paywall. Pay more money, have better chances to get the characters you want, earn more points from races. Simply put.
The gold pass should be a one time purchase, not a monthly purchase. The cost simply outweighs the benefits- I wouldn't want to be paying 4.99 PER MONTH for just three features, with one of the features being a harder difficulty mode.
Half of the rewards earned for completing tours required a gold pass- another reason for why this game has a huge paywall.

As you can probably see, many of the negatives has to do with the game's ridiculous paywall, which is a big problem, especially with a Mario Kart game. Many of the game's characters are unlocked with the game's premium currency, which can mostly be "earned" with real money to get the characters you want (for a chance). So basically, you'll have a hard time progressing this game quickly if a. You don't have the gold pass or b. If you don't spend real money. since each cup requires a certain number of stars that you earn, which is earned from getting points from races, which in turn most of the biggest scores is earned from having the best racers, karts, and gliders... yeah, you get the drill.

CONCLUSION: This game has lots of potential that is drained down by a huge paywall.

This is shameful P2W and it's destroying the Mario Kart IP and Nintendo's image. Sad. Stay away from gacha.

I also find hilarious the amount of errors this game has related to connection. Its like they restrict IPs on peak hours. You can switch from data to WiFi to circumvent this. It only shows how cheap Nintendo has become. This is a company that charges for online on the Switch without putting dedicated servers.
