At first I was sure I was playing a Beta version , not an app that's been around for more than 3 years.
It took me only a couple of days to notice the many basic faults that any game designer who respects himself and his costumers should have addressed long ago:
- The player should be able to move an rearrange all structures in the ranch
- If you won't let the player rearrange stables, the very least you can do is let the player move the horses between stables in an organized way. Moving them through the Market is just poor planning.
- The transition between countries is slow and not efficient. Let me move through countries quickly through a menu. Why do I have to return to the world map and confirm my choice each time?
- If my Storage is being upgraded I can't see what I have in it. If I want to see it I have to go to another ranch and look at the storage there. If I have only one ranch, or if all my ranches are being upgraded I have no way to know what crops I have.
Here's a common scenario I encounter -
I want to make a granola bar in France. I don't have enough wheat. I go to the US to plant and harvest wheat. When harvesting wheat I don't know how many units I harvested since there's no such option. I return France to make the granola bar. Still not enough Wheat. I'd check how much I have but my storage is being upgraded. Can I just plant some wheat here? Nope! So I have to return to the US ranch just to look at my storage. Truly bad game design. I'm starting to assume UX position is non existent.
- Same goes for the Market – If it's being upgraded. I have to go to another country to see what's for sale. If I don't have a second market I'm in trouble.
- Let the player move structures that are being upgraded.
- Let the player see what are the possible breeding results BEFORE the player pays for it!
- Make a screen where the player can see all their horses and their attributes
- When entering a race, let the player sort the horse list by energy, stamina, speed etc.
- When planting crops, put a name tag on them, we're not all native English speakers.
- Create a chat for the clubs. Make the gamers feel like they're a part of a community.
I can't believe all of those very basic option haven't been addressed in over 3 years.
In an era of micro transactions based game, Companies have to balance between an easy, enjoyable gaming experience and seeing the costumer as a human wallet.
I truly can't remember a game that made me feel like nothing but a wallet as 'Horse Haven World Adventures' does. For shame, Ubisoft, for shame.… Expand
