The developer, Nexters Global Ltd., pursues an aggressive online marketing campaign by producing a multitude of low-quality ads aimed at making the game seem diverse by presenting animations in the game's art style depicting its characters in situations akin to those from puzzle, social or strategy games.
Although these animations are made out to look like parts of the game, they don't appear anywhere in the published product and only resemble it with their art style.
Speaking of which, the game looks ridiculously cheap and ugly by following the typical mobile game trend of over-the-top chibi character design, but coupling it with more realistic and thus uncanny graphics from time to time. The fact that these characters, made out to look cute, are often depicted being violently murdered by drowning, electric shocks, saw blades or gas poisoning in the advertisements is just sickening. Taking into consideration the dull and repetitive "soundtrack", which will get on your nerves almost immediately, the presentation of Hero Wars is less than underwhelming.
The gameplay doesn't fare much better; while the publisher claims Hero Wars to be "one of the top Online-Action-MMORPG's", in reality, most of what the player does is merely watching the protagonist fight enemies with almost no control over what's happening on screen, which, taking into consideration the poor presentation described above, is not much more interesting than watching paint dry. In fact, the latter might be preferable, since Hero Wars becomes impossible to complete at some points due to hidden paywalls, which will slowly drain the player of his financial resources if he wants to progress.
If you can't pay, don't worry: You can get in-game rewards by leaving a 5-star-review for the game on the app stores it is available on. That's legitimately the sole reason behind this games' above-average review scores.
The only reason I can give this app even a single point is the fact that, in recent updates, a few puzzles akin to those shown in the advertisements since the game's launch have been added, finally making it an interactive experience and thus nominally a game.
My suggestion: Don't let yourself be fooled by the ads. What this "game" is doing is borderline illegal and the fact that Nexters is allowed to plaster its misleading ads everywhere on the internet should be a reason of concern.… Expand
